It's so sad and fkd up out here, that most police officers have opted to just "pull out". Their "force" is understaffed AND underpaid.
Driving a beat is something that seems out-of-this-world.
Expecting an able-minded & able-bodied human to just grab their ankles while being Forced to confront people that could
'potentially' kill them...is 'something' (most likely) that is a foreign concept (as an unarmed civilian).
In crime-riddled areas, the police force is Wildly outnumbered...and, Actually Cannot do much to diescelate a situation (as it's unfolding).
So, they usually show up 2-4 hours After the initial call...to take statements. (Heroes?? 🤔)
The MAIN problem is the fact that the means of communication between the caller, dispatcher, and responder(s) are Very Rarely able to be 'on the same page', prior to the caller receiving Any aid.
Responders are tired.
Dispatchers are often frustrated, condescending, and lacking empathy.
And, callers are panicking (as they're the only one Experiencing/observing the matter at hand, while trying to give adequate information.)* keep in mind that Having to call 911 should NOT be part of our adult thoughts.
(We aren't 5, calling 911, just to 'see what happens')
911 operators these days seem to be miffed that they had to set down their lunch to -- perhaps -- save a life.
And, basically, no one that has devoted the funnest years of their adult life to sitting in a miserable cubicle has the mental capacity to understand that when someone has called 911...it is, quite possibly the most terrifying moment of their life.
But, if your shift is almost over and you're craving Wendy's...then, you're good. Go for it.
