Oh you had me at Descent. I LOVED Descent and Descent 2!! No gravity, but instant directional change. And flying backwards?! Oh yes!! My GF at the time used to get motion sickness watching me play Descent. Super vertigo in the tunnels. I’m headed straight home to get this. Bugs and all! Thank you Splat!!
Definitely going to put this one on my watch list. Loads of potential that needs to be realized and polished. Absolutely love me some scifi, post-apoc, Mad Max crossover stuff.
Love your input about camera effects. They are very annoying when overused. Game looks amazing and the idea is solid I hope the devs watch this and take your advice.
Kif: "Sir, we found a parallel universe where psychic space parasites feed on our brainwaves." Zapp Brannigan: "Send human brains implanted in space fighter jets!"
There is a game called Nemire that has been released on steam today and it has no forum comments at all apart from someone mentioning the fact. It's a pixel art necromancy game and it looks pretty good. It just really strange that this game has had no exposure throughout it's development, gone unnoticed. I have never seen anything like this before.
Sooo, basically a horror space exploration game! Sounds cool. I've never read We Are Legion past the first few chapters but this concept reminded me of that book too.
that tutorial portion reminded me of the strogg from quake series and if you ever played quake 4 you'll know which conveyor belt cybernetic repurposing scene i'm talking about. its got the same vibe of unwilling conversions going on there to a cybernetic monstrosity of questionable self-control
Oh man... you don't know what you just did for me. I saw this and immediately was reminded of a game I played a lot in my childhood and have several times tried to find the name of to no avail. It was not Descent but that was the perfect reference point to find the game I was thinking of; Forsaken for the N64. Holy hell I played the multiplayer of that game a ton. I don't think I would have ever rediscovered it without learning about Descent from this video. Game also looks pretty sick (but now I just want to go get a Forsaken ROM, ngl).
I love that the AI immediately decides to help you when it realizes that you're innocent. A very nice twist on the classic "ultra rational AI murders all humans" trope - an electronic mind possessing perfect logic would definitely have a self-defined moral code.
See, I went a different route. I'm asking myself why convicts are willing to do ANYTHING for a government that mind-r@ped them out of their body into a derelict fighter jet. Then, I was thinking about the demonstrated capacity of your "friendly" AI to talk with said government, AND read your mind. Imo, it's a "good cop" situation, where he's going to tell you to do things to get to your goal, while in reality it advances the government agenda
The ship design is a bit weird. Why does a ship controlled by a brain need such a wide open cockpit with a window on it and informational screens and stuff? Why not encase the brain in the very center with armor around it, give the ship reinforced camera hardpoints, and have a HUD built into the optics? I guess they just wanted a first person cockpit view, like other space sims.
4:50 he actually called it an aileron roll not a barrel role.... So many don't get them right. Know what... i give the vid an thumbs-up just for that^^
Descent (1) is the, or one of the first games i ever played... just your mentioning of it brought back some memories ^_^ Boy, oh boy. It has been a loooong time 🙂
A game like this has been on my wishlist for ages, but it is called "Haunted Space". Made by the same company, looks exactly the same, wonder what's going on there.
The only game that should be mentioned in the same sentence as Freelancer is UNDERSPACE. Everything else doesn't even come close as being a successor...besides being in space
Looks fun, cant wait to try. Were controls all keyboard? As someone that mostly games on laptop its hard to find games like this where you dont need to plug in a mouse or controller.
@amergingiles Extremely doubtful. E.Y.E. is already an old game and not actively developed, unlike the other two which were recent at the time of his videos (that and he also loves 40k). No reason to think he'll ever cover that unless he changes his format in some significant way.
Good world building, if it had multiplayer so i could play with a friend I'd be more interested. Other than that it's pretty bog standard arcade space shooter.
Who else notices that for splat.. You can guess how good a game is based on his like count?... If it's less than 3k.. Its usually mehhh.. But you see above 3k... Ohhhhhhh wehhhhhh.. Lol that's the good stuff right there
looks interesting... like the "hellish" graphics. Seems to be a little like everspace however.. I'm afraid they might just run short on maps real quick.
Doesn't really look like Avorion at all. Different genres, different mechanics. Far more like Chorus. I definitely know what Avorion is, one of my absolute favourite games.
I'm definitely interested, but this game needs a tractor beam, like Freelancer has. Having to constantly fly through items to pick them up will get old real fast.
I really love how monotone the woman AI is. i am bit sad that your companion AI don't have the filter on, maybe because he supposed to be more of a character
I knew that there was a catch to necron health insurance...
Every other space-fighter game: Booster is on the SHIFT key.
This game: F is for "Faster!!"
I think Everspace also has a separate jump drive on the F key.
I'm not sure if it's a boost, or if it's meant to be a subwarp drive like in freelancer and x4
Check out Desecrators instead, it's way more like Descent.
Have you tried Overload? same creators as Descent
@@Time4CakeAndSodomy I’ll have to look that up. Thank you for the heads up. 🙂👍🏼
Keep waiting for the "tenno"
Everspace 2 has that too. Even boosting into every direction
"System Shock but you are the system that is in shock." Seems legit?
That early AI sounds like Terry Brosius..... so yeah?
That's a perfect description
Damn, that's not a rocket launcher, it's chonket launcher.
They launch so much chonk at you that you feel the need to go exercise
More space-game devs should remember that things don’t need to be aerodynamic in space.
@@HumanPerson_final Being missile shaped can act as sloped armor though, so anything firing at it has a chance of not getting a solid hit however.
This game has so much style. With this kind of story and lore combined with Freelancer gameplay, this one has a lot of potential.
You have not played Chorus as i realise.
Holy shit the game has a unique atmosphere, really interesting
Kinda reminds me of the doctor who episode with a the biological ship and clockwork animatronics
Agreed, it looks amazing.
Kif: "Sir, we found a parallel universe where psychic space parasites feed on our brainwaves."
Zapp Brannigan: "Send human brains implanted in space fighter jets!"
Dam now that you said it, it does seems pretty stupid. But hey they are death roll inmates, DISPOSABLE brains in fighter jets, thats the key word
Lol
*Exasperated Kif noises*
2:22 Robo-doc just punched me so hard I flew into a Pale Valley Beef Sticks commercial. LOL. Perfect timing on that ad break.
4:33 "no, start getting the hand of moving in your new bodhi..."

Interesting, I would also like if it was covered, or more information on it
I can think of two other pixel art necromancy games so not that unique.
I wasn't expecting something called "HELL galaxy" to be so colourful. But then again... The doom guy isn't all grey and gloomy.
Sooo, basically a horror space exploration game! Sounds cool. I've never read We Are Legion past the first few chapters but this concept reminded me of that book too.

This looks neat, but this is "we have everspace 2 at home".
Wow, aesthetics is SO ON POINT here
This is so much like some real late 70s Heavy Metal mag stuff, I kind of love it.
Oh man... you don't know what you just did for me. I saw this and immediately was reminded of a game I played a lot in my childhood and have several times tried to find the name of to no avail. sort of an everspace and choir game with more customisation of ships, sounds good. Will add to watch list.
You had me at the word janky
The ship design is a bit weird. Why does a ship controlled by a brain need such a wide open cockpit with a window on it and informational screens and stuff? Really liking the worldbuilding of this game, it's like a dark Everspace but you're a mind upload (sorta) instead of a clone.
4:50 he actually called it an aileron roll not a barrel role....
So many don't get them right.
Know what... i give the vid an thumbs-up just for that^^
Saw the trailer for this yesterday, glad to see some gameplay of it now, sticking it on my wishlist.
Descent (1) is the, or one of the first games i ever played... just your mentioning of it brought back some memories ^_^
Boy, oh boy. It has been a loooong time 🙂
It's insane that a Freelancer-like game can able to have a highly customization for Spaceship instead of buying, I like the mechanic similar to SPAZ 2
Looks really nice and with it's own style. Hope it does well, congrats to the devs
Loved the Paul Verhoven Robocop's inspired intro.
I've got Borg vibes from Star Trek: Voyager. Now all we need is the Borg Queen and we're set on extra creepy. Definitely feel Descent as well.
This game looks BEAST
That fighter buddy of yours reminds me of the Starfuries from Babylon5.
Starfury, is that you?
Intentional or not I saw a few art style similarities to the those produced by Foundation Imaging.
I'm not typically interested in these kinds of games but this one looks rad and it's going on the Wishlist!
Bro get out of my head, i thought the same things right before you friggin said them Splat! I say, why don't we hang out more often?
The whole feel of it is excellent so hopefully it gets the polish it deserves.
I love this game's art direction.
Adeptus Mechanicus:" Why didn't we think of that?"
This game has Darkstar One vibes for me.
Pretty cool. Very well done.
Hey a game where you can actually see the game and it looks good. That's a nice change of pace. Looks cool.
A game like this has been on my wishlist for ages, but it is called "Haunted Space". Made by the same company, looks exactly the same, wonder what's going on there.
This Is Haunted space. It's rebranded.
Looks pretty similar to Chorus, and I'm perfectly okay with that!
I love that you compared this to Decent, I had the same vibes
Damn this wrong placement of engines disturbs me so much 😂😂😂😂
Splatty bringing the Funny to today's vid, you love to see it!
I really dig the cinematic intro sequence, but I would much prefer to have open space available instead of these grid pockets.
This looks pretty great😊
4:30 We took your brain out then decided to give it eyes and put it in a cockpit?!
So basically a universe where someone ripped a hole into the warp of 40K and hell leaked into reality.
i wish we had 40k spaceship games
I love the aesthetic holy cow.
its like all my favorite space sims got smashed into 1 game...i will keep my eye on this.
This game reminded me Vangers in it's presentation somewhat.
2:25 Danger Snow? But, there's no "NOOO!!"
Go getter is now go gone! Made me laugh.
Interesting concept of a game. Going to wait for full release on this one though.
Feels like this is in the same universe as the game Hellpoint. Same vibes and atmosphere.
The only game that should be mentioned in the same sentence as Freelancer is UNDERSPACE. Everything else doesn't even come close as being a successor...besides being in space
Thanks for showcasing. ^^
That early AI sounds like Terry Brosius.
Game defos has potential, looking forward to see how it develops 👍
Added to wishlist, thank you!
Those Borg are weird :D
Doom in space, neat, you play as the borg, but that cage makes the game looks less free, feels like an arcade
The starships are giving me Babylon 5 Starfury/X-Wing vibes...
It give me Quake 4 vibes for the "human transformation"
Looks like a great alternative to EVERSPACE 2! Excited to see where this goes.
Looks fun, cant wait to try. Were controls all keyboard? As someone that mostly games on laptop its hard to find games like this where you dont need to plug in a mouse or controller.
If you want cool keyboard controlled space fighter/sandbox sim, look up an old game called Hardwar from Gremlin interactive.
Feels a little lke Miner Wards (Pre-Space Engineers game XD) but ill keep my eyes on this
So, if you’re a ship … How do you have sexy fun time?
I wish you had been doing this back when E.Y.E. Divine Cybermancy was released. I'd really like to see your first look for that game.
@amergingiles He seems to like the techno-eerie world settings, and that game was the king of that.
@amergingiles Extremely doubtful. E.Y.E. is already an old game and not actively developed, unlike the other two which were recent at the time of his videos (that and he also loves 40k). No reason to think he'll ever cover that unless he changes his format in some significant way.
Shodan is back.
Ooh. "Full controller support."
Good world building, if it had multiplayer so i could play with a friend I'd be more interested. Other than that it's pretty bog standard arcade space shooter.
love ur content
Did they seriously put the "loot container" and "activate super space afterburner and crash into container" on the same key?
Who else notices that for splat.. You can guess how good a game is based on his like count?... If it's less than 3k.. Its usually mehhh.. But you see above 3k... Ohhhhhhh wehhhhhh.. Lol that's the good stuff right there
This is more like Chorus than Everspace 2, at least in tone.
I see them Lexx vibes. Bravo.
looks interesting... like the "hellish" graphics. Seems to be a little like everspace however.. I'm afraid they might just run short on maps real quick.
Whoa this looks so cool
♫ Do A Barrel Roll! ♫
It’s like a high fedelity Avorion, though I’m not sure if anyone but me even knows what that game is, regardless very cool game splat.
Do you remember BANG! Gunship elite? Most people don't know that one
Doesn't really look like Avorion at all. Different genres, different mechanics. Far more like Chorus. I definitely know what Avorion is, one of my absolute favourite games.
I see Freelancer, I click.
Morning ❤coffee and Spalt.. perfecto
If "you are the ship", having a cockpit with a windshield is little bit off / pointless.
Kind of a Grimdark 40k vibe there at the start.
"Where'd you learn to fly?"
I'm definitely interested, but this game needs a tractor beam, like Freelancer has. Having to constantly fly through items to pick them up will get old real fast.
This game looks good
ThankYou SirSpla77
ngl the camera shake fits
It feels a bit redundant with Everspace ; but it also feels even more indie, weirder ; so thanks for the discovery. I'll keep an eye on it
The AI almost sounds like Alexander Sidig (Dr. Bashir from DS9.)
Cool looking game, but yeah that blur killed my head. No way I could play this one without being able to disable the blur and shake.
Pirate galaxy but from a different view … man I miss Pirate Galaxy…
Hell yea! Love it!
I really love how monotone the woman AI is. i am bit sad that your companion AI don't have the filter on, maybe because he supposed to be more of a character
Everspace crossed with System Shock
