    Two items you can get super early in the Emerald Grove are 'The Whispering Promise' (ring) and 'Hellrider's Pride' (gloves). With both these items, any time you heal an ally they receive Bless and Blade Ward for two turns. These scale amazingly into the late game, as a level 10 cleric you can use your single use of Divine Intervention to get a pretty sweet mace that has a healing aura.
    I don't like to pigeon hole myself with items, but these two are so accessible so early that they're both worth picking up.

    • @Cephalopocalypse

      Very good suggestions! I likewise usually try to keep these builds as item-agnostic as possible, but those two are available so early and add so many new dimensions to your play that I really should have called them out. Especially powerful with Mass Healing Words since that lets you cast several turns' worth of buffs with a single bonus action

      There is also necklace called "Amulet of Restoration" which you can buy from a seller in the Underdark Act 1 which gives you "Healing Word" & "Mass Healing Word" skills so you can use other spells as well.

    Nice build. My only real critique is downplaying how good Aid is. You can cast it outside of combat, it's not concentration, and it lasts until a long rest. It's basically a permanent buff to max HP for your entire party, starting at 5 for level 2 spells and all the way up to 25 for a level 6 spell. And you can stack temp HP on top of this, too. Aid is one of the best support spells in the game, IMO

    Upcasting Aid is probably the most significant overall damage mitigation you can apply. Not counting some cheese methods.
    No concentration, 20-25 extra HP to all allies, including all summons, is crazy good.
    And it's not just a temp HP shield. It changes your max hp so on short rests your increased HP comes back. Assuming you'll have a Deva and an Elemental Summon in your party that's like 150hp buff overall.

      That's true! I usually in my own play end up not really using summons even though I recommend them in this build, but I am very lazy. Great point that aid works with them, and of course is higher value the lower the unit's base hit points are. If you're throwing Boo in that's a lot of extra Boo!

    In a ideal world you don't need healing but in a "realistic" world, unless you're playing on easy/normal diffciulties, you certainly need some/lot of healing to survive, esp on low level and underlevel.
    How to make the healing worth your action tho, is the main concern. That's when you want your cleric life domain. At lv2 you get a group heal Perserve Life, and the only group heal b4 lv5 mass healing. At the very early game in Druid Gove, you can get a gloves off Zavlor (either by kil/steal him or do the quest) that grant the target you healed Bladeward. Also you can get a ring off Volo (steal or trade, don't kill him ... ) grant your healed target Bless for 2 turns. In addition for that, you can get a ammy on Kagha (kill or steal, or quests?), it gives your weapon 1d6 poison damage.

    • @Cephalopocalypse
      @Cephalopocalypse  9 месяцев назад +3

      Spending turns in combat healing is something of a vicious cycle - the more time you spend healing, the more incoming damage you'll receive since you aren't removing enemies from the fight, so the more healing you'll need. It's usually better to prevent that damage in the first place. The blade ward and bless on heal items *are* excellent though, since they add a huge amount of action economy to healing spells. In particular they're great with Mass Healing Word, so you can apply several actions' worth of buffs with a single bonus action.

    • @Cephalopocalypse
      @Cephalopocalypse  9 месяцев назад +2

      @@lmjuniper Sure! So the way attributes work is somewhat confusing - the actual number isn't used for (almost) anything.
      Instead, even numbers contribute to your bonus. The baseline is 10, so at 10 in a stat you have a +0 modifier to any rolls you make using that stat - at 12, it becomes +1, at 14 +2, and so on. Any time you roll a d20 (almost every check in the game), you add the *bonus* for the stat that roll cares about, so only even numbers actually change what you add to your dice.
      Basically, a character with 15 wisdom is exactly as wise as a character with 14 - only by going up to 16 do they actually improve. Hope that helps!

    I like making what I call the Sponge. I go life cleric 4 with heavy armor master and warding bond on everyone, then I go the rest of the levels in spore druid and pick up all the armor pieces that add temporary hit points or reduce damage.
    With the vital conduit boots, you can cast any concentration spell including cantrips to recharge your spore shield and if you are in melee you can get another 7 hp from the cloak if you cast a spell

    • @common_undead
      @common_undead 9 месяцев назад

      I'm pretty sure that you can't recharge your temp hit points in any way. I tried building around that with armor of agathys with fiend warlock and abjuration wizard, with the idea being that arcane ward + armor of agathys prevents me from taking damage, while enemies dying fills up any lost hit points on my armor of agathys due to dark one's blessing. Didn't work that way.

    • @keithbos4506
      @keithbos4506 9 месяцев назад

      @@common_undead It only works with spore druid temporary hit points, not with armor of agathys.
      But you need to have a large enough spore shield for it to be reliable, if the spore shield loses all its hit points, it doesnt matter if you proc the temporary from items, the shield is gone.
      If you can get around 20 hp on the spore shield (level 5 druid), that's typically enough to make it stick through a round of damage and let you recharge. If combat ends and you get into dialogue, using guidance will recharge it outside of combat too.

    • @Cephalopocalypse
      @Cephalopocalypse  9 месяцев назад +2

      That is a very cool build if spore shield works that way - I didn't know it would let you recharge temp hit points! Will have to try that out. Normally you can only have temp hit points from one source so whatever the highest number is will overwrite all other sources

    • @keithbos4506
      @keithbos4506 9 месяцев назад +1

      @@Cephalopocalypse I use it right now, spore shield is the only source of temporary hit points that can be recharged. It may be a bug, but that's how it works in the current version and all previous versions.
      The great thing about the sponge is that it doesn't really require life cleric, you can do it with any of the heavy armor cleric subclasses.

      Ok, sorry for what is likely an off-topic and stupid question, but... I just started my first playthrough, and Blade Ward seems a no-brainer for a tanky companion. My problem, though, is getting my tank to do her job- is there a way to draw aggro in BG3?

    • @Cephalopocalypse
      @Cephalopocalypse  9 месяцев назад

      @@sjbell4653 Hey not a stupid question at all! The short answer is that in D&D there aren't really mechanics to draw aggro like in other games, so you have to plan for your back line characters to have good defenses as well - wizards have the Shield spell, for example, which can prevent them from taking hits, and everyone should have good HP (you'll notice almost all of my builds have 16 CON)!
      You can do a few things to help though! The best is choke points - if your tank is in a doorway, they won't be able to get to you through them. Also make sure your melee characters have good damage - enemies won't be able to run from them without taking an attack of opportunity, so you can just drop them with that and save your allies.
      There's a ton of extra nuance to positioning in this game, but you'll pick it up quickly as you play. Good luck!
