For anyone still unsure about using a healer, I still think a full 12 levels in Life Cleric is an underrated build - for Honour mode it has been an absolutely brilliant class for me. You still benefit from the early game Cleric cheese of Spirit Guardians with all the Radiant gear, which will carry you through Act 2. Equip Lathander and all the Luminous/Radiant Orb stuff. In Act 3, transition towards being an absolute tank depending on the order you get gear, you can run the Adamantine Armour until you buy Armour of Persistence, you can equip the Amulet of Greater Health and then respec by taking out all your Constitution points and replacing them with Dexterity for greater Initiative. 18 Dex 20 Wisdom is a power combo, you'll have 135 Health, Viconia Shield etc for 23 AC, blind nearby enemies, and spam out 30-70 heals every turn. For damage, you still have great spells like Harm and Spirit Guardians, and you can sit on the frontline whilst your DPS focus priority targets. The idea is that if your healer is unkillable, your party is unkillable.

I just cleared act 2 with Minthara respecced into Light Cleric with all the luminous gear and Lathander. The extra movement from soul brand made her insane at crowd control. Between that and my Druid tav casting Long Strider, she’s been lighting up maps.

@@danielcockriel443 the mantle of the holy warrior and luminous armor are both good for this along with your spirit guardians spell. The mantle buffs the rest of the party to doing radiant and the spirit guardians hit anyone close and then benefit from the luminous armor.

i really respect how you frontload your videos. ultimately i dont need to watch the rest once i see the build youre suggesting, but i make sure to leave it playing in the background so you keep the well-earned view time :) i also really love that you acknowledge people have playstyles that dont adhere to the Absolute Best Top Tier choices and you leave room for rp choices. i dont care if i lose 100 honor modes, i'm always choosing the race that fits my rp!

This seems like a well rounded guide, I really liked this variation of the build. Will give this one a try next time I need a healer.
I myself went with 2 life cleric and 10 lore bard for extra magical secrets but still got the extra healing from life cleric and the channel divinity. To compensate for the low amount of channel divinities I stole the amulet that gives you an extra charge of it per long rest and it turned out amazing for honour mode

I always play healers if possible in any RPG, and really was getting disheartened at everyone else’s videos saying healing isn’t really a thing in BG3.
I was drastically regretting my first play though Druid build anyway (WoW player so expected more healing capability) and feeling gloomy, so making a new character now with all this info!

Im new to DnD but have been a long time RPGamer. You can Absolutely both heal and (to a lesser degree) tank in the game eventhough a ton of ppl speak against doing both. Seems like most just like big numbers and shorter battles, but anything can be viable. Halfway through my Cleric Paladin 1st playthrough and M going full heals and tanking and its amazing. Every heal buffs and bless and adds temp hp all from 1 heal and I can still hit like a truck and counter hard IF I ever get hit. Frees up my others to focus solel on their roles and is just fun for me personally. Find your lane and enjoy

In honor mode, I've noticed that having a support character is pretty handy, as some of the legendary powers enemies have, stop you from being able to just burn them down with damage. So with fights being extended, being able to aoe cast a heal that applies blade ward from the gloves you get form Zevlor, and the big heal from the cleric channel divinity charges, that keeps you out of kill range, is pretty nice.
I will say, if you really want to, you can still cheese the hell out of most of the fights, but if you want to take them head on and in a legit fashion, having a support character is a good option.

Using similar concepts with the healing yourself indirectly mechanic, and getting bless and blade ward indirectly through that; I made a Fighting Healer. 5 Levels Fighter Battle Master, 7 levels Life Cleric, using the Gauntlets of Hill Giant Strength, 18 Wisdom, and GWM. Gives you a strong Melee damage character with Spirit Guardians up, and then you can pump out healing word and mass healing word to heal others + yourself, and keeps up BPS resistance + the indirect bless. I also changed up the fighter part to be an Eldritch Knight with Warcaster instead of GWM for a while, which was able to tank even more fights due to shield, but obviously slightly less melee damage without GWM and Maneuvers. Additionally, I used a Gith for it, so that to have misty step available when required (nothing like misty stepping from one group of enemies to another with Spirit Guardians up!). This was a lot of fun.

I don't know of anyone else who feels the same way as me (though I'm sure some exist) but I actually am very much against the "kill things quicker" meta gaming for one simple reason: I like fights and I want them to be longer, more detailed, more epic. Having a strong healer/support character in the party lets me draw fights out more.

Past level 10, the best healer is any class with Devotee's Mace, all gear pieces that trigger on heal (Bless ring, Blade Ward bracers from act 1 changed to act 3 one ASAP, Wapira's Crown), then throw Transfuse Health illithid power on it. Wapira + Devotee's selfheals for a tonn each turn, and Transfuse Health is a gigantic burst heal. You can just reroll any number of characters to cleric then back, and Devotee's aura will be available 24/7. If you do it on your main character you can Transfuse Health as bonus action past the creche too. Not sure which gear piece gives an extra bonus action when below 50% health, but that synergizes with Transfuse Health very well too.
EDIT: Staff of ARcane Blessing wasn't working for me when I tried back in patch 1 or 2... has it been fixed since?

THE BEST THING RECOMMENDED TO ME. I’m a more damage damage damage type of support. I do that in OW as well and decided to try a more “defensive” approach to BG3. Only played honor mode once and barely got far into act 1 because I died to the owlbear. Been more interested in life domain and everytime I try to find advice on reddit all I see is “why are you doing heals, you can just use potions” “light or tempest is better” blah blah blah. I want to try something new, something exciting. I always do the same thing by respec Shart to temp/sorc or light/sorc. After multiple times it gets dull. Really great video and thanks for looking out for people trying new things in the cleric subclasses

I feel like BG3 is a lot like Gloomhaven. A skilled party will make sure to handle enemies by Killing, CrowdControlling or Outranging them. The option to tank and heal is possible but strictly worse than a party focusing on the above three. That being said the value of having some healing is very high, but you get deminishing returns as you keep investing in healing+tanking instead of handling the enemies.
Really cool if Larion has made it possible to play BG3 like it was a World of Warcraft group in dungeons! :D

  • @bobnewkirk7003
    @bobnewkirk7003 8 месяцев назад +1

When I built my healer out I did pretty much the same theme, however I didn't see much value in going Cleric to 6 other than the Short Rest on the Divinity charges. I ended up going 2 life + 10 Lore Bard to pick up the full suite of magical secrets and could then lean harder into CHA. The build does skew towards CC over raw healing, but learning how to prevent damage will become the best form of healing by midgame.
With a little bit of cheese, going Life 1 + Wizard 1 gets you full access to the cleric (and other) spell lists through scroll eating and doesn't prevent the level 6 spell slot like a lot of other multi-classing would. with the gear selection in BG3 you can more than make up for not having several stats directly on your build especially if your other party members don't need them.

If you want to maintain the "healer roleplay", always keep the luminous armor on. The debuff is basically an Armor class buffs to all your allies, paired with spirit guardians, then you throw in heals etc.
You can still maintain the roleplay aspect of it and actually do great debuffing enemies. Not to mention the possibility of using the reverberation sets with the radiant orb (but thats more agressive)

Now sure for mid maxing I wouldnt be surprised if damage is better overall. But as you say healing for most players will be very beneficial because it allows you to go into encounterns un-prepared and make it out alive while if you are all about offense then you need to know what will happend.

What are the thoughts on going 10 or so life cleric for that divine intervention on honour mode? Say you are about to get team wiped on honour mode because of a new mechanic you did not see coming or are having especially bad luck for an encounter - that divine intervention could literally make or break a run by giving you a second chance on an otherwise potentially doomed run which you have sunk hours upon hours into. So I'm torn between going 6/6 bard / cleric like this vid or full cleric for that safety clutch

    • @InvaderTroy
      @InvaderTroy 8 месяцев назад

I never felt the need for a dedicated healer on my honor mode run. if an encounter is going so badly that you desperately need a healer, you should probably reevaluate your approach. I had a Paladin/Fighter and a Bard/Rogue as Tank and CC respectively that were able to heal, but that wasn’t their main job. It’s kind of a waste of a party slot to have a dedicated healer on Honor Mode because you should be setting up fights to win overwhelmingly. It doesn’t matter how long your healer can sustain the rest of the party for if they can’t do enough damage or are completely outnumbered. With the availability of healing potions and the fact that martials rarely use their bonus actions it’s not really that much of a problem IMO. I’d rather have a Monk with Alert feat and Stunning Strike than a dedicated cleric tbh
that said, a 1 level dip for Sanctuary can be absolutely clutch for survival so that is something to consider.

Damn dude I want to be a bard and explore as many levels as possible into bard, but at the same time I want to have mass cure wounds on my bard. Is 3 bard 9 cleric viable at all?

Uhm, choosing dex skills at lvl up when dex is 10, why? Heavy armor and stealth, why?
Why is a support/healer doing damage so much? (Is there a need for so many damaging spells?)
If you don't need heals, make another dps; if you need a healer focus on that (so they can hide in sanctuary without risk of losing concentration).
You seem unfocused on the goal of winning fights because the "creation" is a hybrid and not a perfected/polished healer (with ritual spells & buffs not dependent on stats, heals dependent on one stat and further buffed by class skills and gear)
Note: 40:38 warden of vitality demonstrated well btw. 42:18 mass healing word... correct use (every 2 turns to restore buffs on all party members utilizing the "on heal" gear)
If you intend to respec, waiting half way through the video, I am hoping for this to sync up with the title of video.
28:54 - 37:54 great gear (except as stated above, sanctuary removes the "need" to stress out about concentration)
    1) have "on heal" gear (4-5) -> get benefits
    2) give bardic inspiration gear (4) -> get benefits
    3) raise ac to 20+ to further reduce risk, + passive heal gear (helm and regen ring -> not discussed)
Most players don't think healers are flashy/fun, but saving the party in a pinch and having people relying on you to pull "their bacon out of the fire" (being competent enough to accomplish that in a timely/consistent way is beautiful thing.) In honor mode, it is required. (No room for mistakes)
Each role: tank, melee dps, ranged/magical dps, support/healer all have a niche in combat of rpgs. None should be scoffed at or looked as being less important. They work together and have synergy. (Are they supposed to be carbon-copies of each other?) No! Delagate, execute, gather accolades/rewards at the end. A winning formula that shouldn't be abandoned so quickly. Skill/expertise are not a possession of babies, but a party that is resilient/adaptable will weather the storm.

I have been watching for a bit and started playing yesterday on Consol. So not pertaining to this video specifically. But do we not get Feats on Consol? I haven't seen Feats at Character creation at all.

or u could just use 4 hierlings / companions in camp with 3 cleric 5 abjuration wizzard and cast blade ward on u're whole party and replace the healer with a dps since u'll have 50% dmg reduction permanent. also u didnt mention PERIAPT OF WOUND CLOSURE amulet which makes every heal u cast a max roll (10-52 becomes 52 all the time)

Short rests and death saves nerfed healing injto the ground. You want to make healing better revert those two rules to 3rd edition rules.

I absolutely getting sick of you dudes telling medium and light Armor classes to wear heavy Armor Like the Splintmail 33:42 those stupid range classes are stealing early Game armors for group tanks because of your freaking advice.
This Shit Ruins whole group combs in the early Game.
