I love seeing these specialty builds that focus on a certain damage damage type. I've done a mega smite palabard for radiant, a necrotic spore druid monk, a force damage banishing smite bard, and a psychic assassin.
I made something simular for Shdowheart except it was a Shadow Monk and Trickery. It was a Dark Justicar build with 6/6 and in hindsight War might have been a bit better but I prioritized thematic stuff. This build is really cool as well! Spirit Guardians with Monk movement and Cleric Wisdom Stunning Strike is a great combo
Doesn’t the war bonus action attack kind of conflict with monk’s bonus action attack? I guess unless your weapon does more cool stuff. I like knowledge domain for Shadowheart a LOT, it’s still thematic to Shar and the spell list is heavily underrated
@@after_alec thats a good point actually. I love Mirror Image on Monk with Spirit Guardians, which is why I went with trickery (plus thematic reasons ofc)
Very nice multiclass 👍🏾 I'm totally doing this with Shadowheart. Shout out to Blood of Lethander mace as it auto provides illumination & gives you a radient attacks spell.
Please god use the build with boots of stormy clamour to stack tons of reverberation to multiple targets, I’ve been using it for a week now and it is by far the most fun I’ve had in bg3!
I found the Gloves of Belligerent Skies to be really fun, as it stacks off any damage you inflict, as long as it's radiant/thunder and....necrotic I think? So whether it's fisty puncy radiant, or clericy radiant, it's stacking those Reverberation stacks.
Fantastic video!! I have been quite a fan of your work and your videos are consistently informative and entertaining. This is a very timely, as I am in the process of a radiant monk (light cleric/open hand monk) as well. I have been agonizing on the proper level split due to the fact that level 6 or 7 in either class has some phenomenal offerings. However, I have settled on storm sorcerer 1/light cleric 5/open hand monk 6. I am relying heavily on spirit guardians and, being a mele build, the opportunity to loose concentration is quite abundant. I believe augmenting one's spell concentration is imperative, and since the build is feat starved, quite reliant on ability scores, and armor is not a possibility (at least stylistically), the sorcerer (or fighter) constitution proficiency is essential. I chose sorcerer because fighter doesn't seen to offer much other than constitution proficiency (no appropriate fighting style and the armor and weapon proficiencies are extraneous) and the sorcerer adds utility spells and disengage/fly ability that can be situationally adventitious. I quite agree with your item choices. However, as an honorable mention, might I suggest the items that provide arcane charge (either boots or robe). Arcane charge adds proficiency bonus as damage to spell damage and weapon/unarmed damage as long as one is threatened. Since this is a mele build, the threatened condition is a given. This will add 3 to 4 damage all attacks and to all instances of spell damage, ie spirit guardians. Of the 2, I am partial to the robe since it only requires taking mele damage (which is exceeding likely for a mele monk in tactician) to prompt the arcane charge. I apologize for the verbose post, but I am obsessed with this concept and appreciate your erudite commentary. Continue the excellent efforts. Cheers
watching you recreate the Sun Soul Monk (which was/is Lathander's old monk Subclass in 3e). Only change I'd do is use this on Shadowheart. And instead of my initial attack being unarmed, I'd let her use her spear. Also, while they aren't Radiant Damage, those Soul Catching legendary gloves for monk are *fans self* really nice.
I Love Monk builds and my favorite is what I am playing now, start 1 level for Fighter (heavy armor and defensive fighting style) then 5 Monk levels (Open Hand and Tavern Brawler), 3 Rogue (Thief and extra Reaction), and then 2more in Fighter (Battle Master). Heavy Armor, sword, and board and the front line tank specializing in knocking prone, tripping, and surprise attacking every turn while pumping out the attacks, reaction sprinting around. I forgot who, but they made a video on, the Shilean Knight.
I’m loving my current 2 spore druid/6 monk right now. At level 8 sitting at 23ac (yuan ti scale mail and adamantine shield) and putting on Resistance before every fight for the extra D4 psychic damage while concentrating. Using blood of lathander. Thinking of going 4 druid 8 monk by the end so I can max out my wisdom and have some level 2 spells like moonbeam or improve ability
Maybe it's just me, but if you are running around in heavy armor wielding a sword and board then you're just a fighter. Sure the abilities are different but thematically that just isn't a monk to me :)
in Baldur's Gate Enhanced Edition they added Rasaad the sun soul monk as a companion. He was part of a whole monastic order that followed Selune. This is technically a really good set up for Shadowheart if you go good route with her. With Shadowmonk/trickster cleric as a good bad route for her
I once built lae'zel as a radiating orb monk. Used the radiant wave armour + radiating orb and dmg rings and radiant retaliation on miss helmet. I was 8 open hands monk and 4 thief. I just jumped on the middle of the fray and hit things, spreading 8+ stacks of radiant orb per turn to everyone close to lae'zel. The weak point was ranged enemies, since i had no unarmored bonuses from the monk, but i mitigated with haste and athletic feats. She just couldnt be hit while in melee and dealt huge amounts of damage with str and tavern brawler combo
Well into Act 3 with this one as my main character and it is definitely one of my favorite ever builds! Pretty unstoppable, but bosses with radiant rebuke still keep this build challenging (and what's nice is that the radiant abilities can all be toggled off.) Spoiler warning below - though probably not really at this point. Because I've never had another build that crushed Cazador so easily as this one, and it is still dex-based, I think this would be a wonderful build for Astarion. Like he became obsessed with controlling sunlight after getting tadpoled and being able to go out in the day for the first time in 200 years. It would especially be interesting for an Ascended Astarion run. There is something compelling and scary about evil characters using radiant damage - especially a vampire.
In my second playthrough my Shadowheart spent Acts 1/2 as a Shadow Monk, mostly because I wanted to take advantage of the cool Monk gear sprinkled throughout the game. That one's a fun subclass, but after her big turning point (even on replays I just can't make her do the evil thing, lol) she kinda fell off. I wasn't sure what to do with her class flavor, compared to my first playthrough where I reclassed her to Light Cleric at that same point in the story. This build looks awesome. It's exactly what I needed, I'm so excited to use it for the rest of Act 3. Found this video because I heard about the Sun Soul Monk subclass, and I wanted to see if anyone has recreated that flavor in bg3. Thank you for making this!
I'm surprised you didn't try The Gloves of Belligerent Skies for this build. To quote the item: Effect: Affected entity has a -1 penalty to Strength, Dexterity, and CON Saves per turn remaining. When the entity has 4+ turns of Reverberation, it takes 1-4 Thunder damage and possibly falls prone. The condition is removed afterward. Creatures Immune to Thunder damage can't receive Reverberation." So if you are tossing around a lot of AOE radiant damage, like with your Light domain spells, AND also every time you are punching someone with radiant fists, you can end up knocking a LOT of enemies down onto the ground. It's great for crowd control. And you can get the gloves fairly early if you go dip over into the githyanki creche.
I think he wanted to lean into the radiating damage/sun monk thing. If you min max every build for damage alot of builds can start looking the same. Just my opinion, and could be he just over looked it
Definitely gonna try this build come endgame on my next durge run. I plan to play as a death hand monk (spore druid / open hand monk) for most of the game then pivot to this as sort of a redemption character change. Kudos for the build. I ran your spore druid / open hand monk for Jaheira and loved it a lot that i wanted to see how it would fare for a full run with it
Using Moonmote from Selûne's Spear of Night can actually add more radiant dmg to your unarmed strikes!! and in my option fulfills the Sun Monk aesthetic for this build
I just love how you made him look like Superman and called him Kaeld (Maybe it's a stretch, but alongside the costume and the name similar to Kal-El it's fun to point out)
Thank you very much for this. I'm not that creative and have been struggling with what to do with my monk run. This at least gives me an idea of other possibilities.
I would've figured you'd go 6 into monk, as that is when it comes into it's own. Anything more is "nice to have" but the extra damage and everything counting as magic is SUPER nice for your unarmed attacks.
I'm thinking of making a drow mc with this build. It looks so fun! at first, i thought it wouldnt fit thematically since drows are associated with darkness rather than light, not to mention that most of them look very goth. but in the end, i think it makes sense for a seldarine drow that worships Eilistraee, the moon goddess of the drow pantheon...
I am going to try this/respec my L12 Open Hand Monk as this build. Another set of gloves you didn't mention, but need to try that go with this build is Gloves of Belligerent Skies. 2 turns of reverberation on foes damaged by radiant/thunder/lightning.
Great content bro! Before your monk videos I probably never would’ve even considered the class. Good luck with those allergies and look forward to maybe some Darktide content in the future?
Going 6/6 or 7/5 poses some really tough choices, especially if you're playing this through a campaign and not respeccing once lv12. It boils down to these "KI" choices (see what I did there): Spirit Guardians vs Radiance on Monk attacks When will feats be most powerful? Improved Warding Flare vs Evasion + Stillness of Mind Tough choices to make and something I'm still debating.
Yo I feel like I thought of the craziest build but idk if it would work but could you use monk jump and that warhammar from the inn that does damage when you jump to just go theif and cunning dash use a ki for dash and free jumps then dash as ur main action and use haste and you can jump an insane amount of times
Neat build in the rp sense kind of concept but it doesn't really feel like there's much coherency or synergy between the classes. Could go full into either cleric or monk to 12th and realistically get the same damage output since the equipment shown just looks like standard monk gear, or standard radiant orb gear.
My first solo play through was a monk such a cool class so much damage potential (my very first was a wizard but I did co op the whole time but monk is way more fun)
Not to necropost too much, but staver of skulls will apply radiant damage and can be purchased at the Grymforge. I think 2 in monk then 5 cleric is better progression. Spirit Guardians is more impactful that the bonus strikes. Then again, a Gith or Shield Dwarf wearing the luminous armor can do much of this as a pure monk.
respec when you get the Gloves of dexeterity and grab tabern brawler, max strenght dump dex, and high wis, that would be awesome, will try it, sadly the campain im on right now im level 6, will wait a bit
I think I'm going to try a 9 Monk/3 Cleric setup for this, so I can do the lvl 9 open hand aoe blast attack and hit everyone with radiant damage that way.
Made this an insane tank aoe just by changing this gear. holy lance helm(misses add orb) , thunderskin cloak (dazed with reverb), luminous armour {radiant shockwave), luminous gloves (orb), boots of stormy clamour (condition causes reverb), spineshudder amulet(range spell reverb). You will be throwing radiant dmg like crazy with all the unarmed atks, which in turn triggers all the stacks of radiant orb AND Reverberation. throw the shield of faith or spirit guardians and watch enemies just go crazy with reverb and orbs. they go dazed and prone. haha.
This set up has been fun so far! Im still leveling up the monk part (got to level 4) For rp purposes, i went with Bahamut since im playing as a gold dragonborn
Great concept! Love it! But I'm really sad that the Luminous Armour is medium :) But to push the concept further, there is also the Mantle of the Holy Warrior I used to play Githyanki as a monk but now, from a minimum roleplay perspective, it’s quite difficult to explain how a Gith can worship either Lathander or Heaum
How? the githyanki creche is a Lathander monastery in BG3, your character could feel the light of Lathander, but could not feel the connection to Vlaakith no matter how much you prayed, you learned from prophetic dreams that Orpheus, Prince of the Comet was alive and well, and that there were other secrets to the sun, and as you began studying the sun you had to leave to discover where orpheus is, hell you can figure it out from just the discs littered around the monastery so how is that lower difficult?
31:20 The damage applied by the Callous Glow Ring *is* radiant damage, even if that isn’t specified in the item description. See e.g. bg3.wiki/wiki/Callous_Glow_Ring
I think I'm going to do this, but only 2 levels of the light cleric to take more advantage of the Monk. So I can still use the Radiance of the Dawn for easy AOE radiant, but I won't have spirit guardians in favor for some of the other Monk abilities and passives. Little more focused on punching.
Ooooo i like the idea of a cleric/monk. I love monk in general, i dont like being dependent on the strength potions though.. Some of these monk builds confuse me sometimes and i have a question, going dexterity works the same as strength? (Without Tavern Brawler obviously)
How funny, I randomly reached Cleric Monk hybrid thinking in my play with a Wood Elf. I didn’t see how effective it be against Myrkel so moved away from it but I was a knowledge cleric and like 7 in monk. Was like 7/3 split. It gave me nice boost to AC and with the radiance fisting just absolutely clattered undead. I did Jaehira into a monk hybrid and it boosted her AC from 13 up to 18 but I made her now armour proficiency instead due hero feast. I was thinking a Monk Druid would be a really good mix especially if you combine a monk weapon benefits with the Druid club. Obviously the best aspect of a Druid is wild shape that makes it less needed some other class to up combat when you get fierce feat of tavern brawler. I do wonder if I give her the gear that puts your wisdom modifier into unarmed attacks will carry into her wild shape like tavern brawler.
I'm very confused. I was really excited to try this build, even picked a wood elf myself. I took my first 2 levels in Cleric, just like your video, and just got to level 1 Monk, but the speed increase for level 2 monk only increases my movement speed by 3, not by 10. And I even double checked to make sure I wasn't wearing any actual armor. I even went so far as to remove everything equipped and it's still saying only increases movement speed by 3m. I don't understand what I'm doing wrong. Please help
@@andybodle7560 thank you. I was using the default settings, so I think that's why I was using metric. That makes so much more sense. Thank you so much.
I ended up stumbling upon a similar idea as this using the war domain instead. Will see how that changes things. Also I remade the character using these stats since it was better than what I came up with.
For a demonstration of the fighting that is a automatic sub for me. I was planning a build like this with heavy armored strength war cleric/monk but, I'm still trying to figure out how I'm going to work it because the bonus action for priest is used already and the monk bonus action is used to. That plus 2 ac spell though feels worth it
Just don't do War Cleric. Medium Armour is also fine since Clerics get Shields + Med Armour by default. There are some very good shields in Act 2. Could do Monk 6, Thief Rogue 3, Spore Druid 3 or Rogue 4 Druid 2 (for the feat on Rogue), or Cleric 2/3, Rogue 4, Monk 6. You should be able to get 18 Dex (+1 from Ethel), 18 Wis (from an ASI), 21/23/27 Str (from Elixirs or Gauntlets), and 18 Con (+1 from Tavern Brawler). Then you just auto-win every fight in the game because you have like +20 damage to every attack using Tavern Brawler + Wisdom mod boots.
more radiant orbs: more ennemy attack miss: proc your armor chest effect. So Luminous gloves are BIS 100% stacking reverb on top of that is not bad idea
Hah! I little slip outs you as a somebody who plays a lot of halfling and dwarf characters, as I do (and as you recommended), because when you came to Wood Elf, you said you get "10 more movement speed." You do, but only if you are used to the little guys. The actual Wood Elf bonus is 5 ft. As a side note, I enjoy your presentation style a lot.
Did you test that half orc savage attacks did not work with unarmed strikes. In dnd unarmed attacks are melee weapon attacks, and i think that carried iver into the game. Just want to know if you tested or just read the description
You should really equip some weapons as a stat stick, you don't need to hit with those weapons. Knife of undermountain king or Bloodthirst for extra crit chance or rhapsody for extra damage. Even a shield could improve your survivability by a lot (special mention to Swires' Sledboard , force conduit is just busted specially if you stack with other damage mitigations). You could also use Handmaiden's Mace or Club of Hill Giant Strength to set strength to 18 and go for tavern brawler feat. This makes your unarmed attacks do so much more dmg. Oh almost forgot, Deva Mace does 4d8 radiant damage. I am not gonna mention where to get those items, but if you don't care for spoilers just search the wiki for those
Even Corellon's Grace from Act 1 would make a difference. I honestly don't know why he's physically unarmed since almost everything that isn't two-handed counts as a Monk weapon if you're proficient.
cool build and maybe I missed it in the video, but how this build is supposed to handle Radiant Retort which are more prevalent in Tactician? Just switch to a different manifestation for the fights?
You say that there is an ability that lets you add your wisdom modifier to you AC bonus, Does this bypass the Dex limitations of medium and heavy armour?
I never dipped into any Spells, but I think a straight Monk of the Open Hand with the ability to wear armor was extremely effective (honestly Overpowered). I had to roll Dwarf/Githyanki for this, but with all the 'If Radiant' or the 'Luminous' or 'Reverberation' item sets (specifically the Gloves of Belligerent Skies) you can practically -8 everyone in an Area-of-Effect and knock them Prone all the same in a single turn. FYI -- Tavern Brawler (STR Monk) is definitively superior so that's one thing to consider is the Feats when Multiclassing. And if you want ultimate cheese, drop Strength to '8' and just stack Elixir's of Giant Strength and you'll be god and can probably solo the game with this build.
If I did contemplate a Spellcasting dip with all this in mind, lowkey probably would go with Sorcerer to Twin/Quicken Guiding Bolts with those gloves using Wholeness of Body just to be absurd (unfortunately there is no Divine Sorcerer in BG3 yet).
Baldur's Gate takes place in Faerun, so Lathander is, indeed, the sun deity of choice for the region.

When will feats be most powerful?
Improved Warding Flare vs Evasion + Stillness of Mind
Tough choices to make and something I'm still debating.
Congrats for reaching level 12 haha! I've loved all the videos so far so thanks for your work.
Yo I feel like I thought of the craziest build but idk if it would work but could you use monk jump and that warhammar from the inn that does damage when you jump to just go theif and cunning dash use a ki for dash and free jumps then dash as ur main action and use haste and you can jump an insane amount of times
interesting build... I have like 15+ hill giant potions at the end of act 1 almost level 7... why not get benefiets of tavern brawler and use potions?
Neat build in the rp sense kind of concept but it doesn't really feel like there's much coherency or synergy between the classes. Could go full into either cleric or monk to 12th and realistically get the same damage output since the equipment shown just looks like standard monk gear, or standard radiant orb gear.
My first solo play through was a monk such a cool class so much damage potential (my very first was a wizard but I did co op the whole time but monk is way more fun)
They're SO fun in this game and you can do so many things with them!
You will be throwing radiant dmg like crazy with all the unarmed atks, which in turn triggers all the stacks of radiant orb AND Reverberation. throw the shield of faith or spirit guardians and watch enemies just go crazy with reverb and orbs. they go dazed and prone. haha.
You are good at making these
Callous Glow ring is nice for the theme, but the caustic ring doesnt require any effect to work. Ya get the 2 points dmg but its not radiant
This set up has been fun so far! Im still leveling up the monk part (got to level 4) For rp purposes, i went with Bahamut since im playing as a gold dragonborn
I'm just starting this build and I'd like to know how well it fits the dark urge redemption style?😊
Great concept! Love it! But I'm really sad that the Luminous Armour is medium :)
But to push the concept further, there is also the Mantle of the Holy Warrior
I used to play Githyanki as a monk but now, from a minimum roleplay perspective, it’s quite difficult to explain how a Gith can worship either Lathander or Heaum
How? the githyanki creche is a Lathander monastery in BG3, your character could feel the light of Lathander, but could not feel the connection to Vlaakith no matter how much you prayed, you learned from prophetic dreams that Orpheus, Prince of the Comet was alive and well, and that there were other secrets to the sun, and as you began studying the sun you had to leave to discover where orpheus is, hell you can figure it out from just the discs littered around the monastery so how is that lower difficult?
Love this build! ❤ Finally a DEX-based and wise monk and not a tavern brawler rampage... 😅
exactly what i was looking for thanks!
31:20 The damage applied by the Callous Glow Ring *is* radiant damage, even if that isn’t specified in the item description. See e.g. bg3.wiki/wiki/Callous_Glow_Ring
Cant wait to try this but maybe 1 more in cleric rather than monk for a 2nd radiance of the dawn even if it's a little less optimal
I'm going to start a monk and multiclass into a druid. I'm super excited
Please help
You are using metric measurements. He is using feet.
@@andybodle7560 thank you. I was using the default settings, so I think that's why I was using metric. That makes so much more sense. Thank you so much.
Congrats on Level 12! That’s worth a ‘Subscribe’!
now "... i know kung fu..." ;) seems pretty fun combination, thanks for all the tips!
I ended up stumbling upon a similar idea as this using the war domain instead. Will see how that changes things. Also I remade the character using these stats since it was better than what I came up with.
I’m planning to do this with a slight deviation, 6 in Light Cleric, 6 in Monk
I built this before seeing this. But I used the war God cleric devotion. It definitely was the most fun I have had in this game...
Could you not do a build with monk around gloves of dex and respec into full strength and wisdom with tavern brawler as a feat? Or is it not viable?
Ah the solaire build. I'm here for it!
@@Yabbamann Ahhhhh shit!!! I forgot about shields let me load my game up I have been holding myself back
Seems solid and fun. and now I can MC this and make Shadowheart Mortyismal Gaming's Tempest of Tiamat Build.
Love this, so much fun!
Random question but what would be a good party comp to compliment this build which is awesome btw and so wanna use it +1 sub :)
more radiant orbs: more ennemy attack miss: proc your armor chest effect. So Luminous gloves are BIS 100% stacking reverb on top of that is not bad idea
Not necessarily radiant, but 3 into thief to get the extra bonus action to do double flurry of blows seems like that'd be disgustingly good.
Guess I should've finished the vid before I commented. Lol
I wonder how good this build would be in the new 5e with warrior of elements to pull enemies into spirit guardians…
Did you test that half orc savage attacks did not work with unarmed strikes. In dnd unarmed attacks are melee weapon attacks, and i think that carried iver into the game. Just want to know if you tested or just read the description
How does this compare to the tavern brawler monk build? The one focused on Strength and the Tavern Brawler feat?
Clerics are very good in the tabletop version too.
Why not tavern brawler ?
Bruh, is that MHENLO in the thumbnail?? Liked purely for that
I just realized my orc barbarian won’t get any use out of savage attacks since he’s a tavern brawler
Hello, I would like to use this build using thief rogue’s extra bonus action. Should I use 6 monk 3 cleric and 3 rogue?
No shields for Monks. Screws their unarmoured AC bonus.
@@sokar_rostau My guess would be to maximise radiance.
Is there a way to have a build be this effective but with the tempest cleric ?
Callous glow ring DOES do radiant damage it's just not in the item description. ALSO, you neglected shields and bows
cool build and maybe I missed it in the video, but how this build is supposed to handle Radiant Retort which are more prevalent in Tactician? Just switch to a different manifestation for the fights?
You say that there is an ability that lets you add your wisdom modifier to you AC bonus, Does this bypass the Dex limitations of medium and heavy armour?
You should try to make the College of Spirits Bard into BG3, would love to see it!!
There's one that allows you to cast crusaders mantel . Great for the build with radiant damage
