Paul I gotta tell you, you are the Bob Ross of guitars man. You have such a calming voice
Ha Ha. Well said 👏
I want him to record bedtime stories on audio books
Here's a happy little arpeggio....
Paul is the Bob Ross of Cool Hand Luke.
You’re only saying that because he has a sexy accent.
He's the AthleanX of guitar. Any Jeff's fans here? Just learn playing guitar with both your hands to avoid any imbalances.
@@kpcrisp3789 Filming the video prolly..
Do your face pulls to avoid Hetfield style slouching...
Yes! Jeff's a beast!
That's why I taught left and right handed students.
I would NOT wanna get jeff started on how many muscular imbalances can occur from not playing ambidextrously
This is actually the most valuable lesson ever, not for chords, but also for melody lines that follow the chord. a warm welcome to the world of inversions, simplified.
CAGED sets you free - if that's not irony, then what is?
...sets you free to sit in your room and practice practice practice, the irony runs deep
@@joebryant8500 who are we?
@Vladimir Demirev Maybe not free. But surely you agree CAGED is a great progression from open chords, particularly for beginner/intermediate players. Nothing sets you free, you'll either be master and slave to your self, or, just a slave to other masters
Oxymoron
Learn triads instead
CAGED is one of those systems that seems fairly complicated at first, but like with all ideas on guitar, it's way more beneficial than harm in my honest opinion. Always was a fan of the system since the day I found out about it! Cheers!
Yeah,its a good trick
Triads changed my life
The guitar is a complex instrument, but its' complexity doesn't need to be that complicated. If you don't know what a mode is you didn't do your basic scale theory. So it's complicated. As will be things like the circle of 4ths and 5ths, Knowing your intervals, building chords and scales. Learning your way round your fret board.
If you skip the first chapters of a book then the plot won't make so much sense. If you read the chapters in the right order more will make sense.
@@ianrichardson3968 Ahh that is very and brilliantly well put my friend. True indeed
@@wesleyalan9179 Ahhh indeed my man
I'm feeling guilty for watching this video for free
Jedidiah Daniel BEST COMMENT
Hahaha
your parents are guilty of not teaching you " nothing is free' deal
DUDE! I've seen CAGED mention since the 2000s and I've never seen it explained in such an intuitive way. amazing video!
Any beginner could agree that Justin and Paul are THE BEST teachers you could find for free and theyre superb at it. Couldnt thank them both enough
I've been teaching this for decades and just felt the need to tell you that your video explanation was perfect. I will tell my students to watch it. I have no need to do the video myself since you have done it exquisitely! Namaste
I saw your previous video on the CAGED system and it helped my riff writing abilities very much! Thank you for sharing your knowledge with us, we love you Paul❤🎸
Until watching this video, I had never heard of this or even thought of it outside of traditional bar chords. This is an absolute game changer!
Caged is the holy grail of guitar playing. It literally is what FINALLY unlocked the guitar for me. Caged can be applied to EVERYTHING on the guitar. It covers all the modes, it bridges over to Melodic minor etc, it helps understand the intervals, it helps with chord inversions; just all around great road map for understanding the guitar. Mastering the caged system will definitely help lay the foundation for much more advanced music theory concepts, because it allows you to understand where the notes are at any given time while playing.
CAGED is THE guitar neck visualization system,
it's organic, it serves any melodic or harmonic purpose
accepts a lot of tweaks, it's easily understandable
it's perfect, it's the natural way of the instrument.
I still don't get it. What's the value in calling an A Major barred chord and E? Makes no sense to me, just unnecessarily complicates things.
@@zootsoot2006 youre playing an A Major chord barred, using the E major shape. The E major shape comes from the E major open chord that beginners learn. the reason why we say is a A major chord with the E shape is because you simply move that open chord up the fret, but barred instead. i hope this helps. if not, look up barre chords and how they work (assuming you already know youre open chords)
A friend of mine introduced me caged almost an year ago when I started studying solo guitar (was a vocalist and rythm guitar player) nowadays I can solo and improvise over everything (sounds corny sometimed lol), thats how powerful it is, and theres much more to learn because as you said, apllying scales to it and bringing everything together really takes time but its rewarding. Amazing content :) very smooth to hear/learn music theory from you.
pentatonic guy at level 5?
I see what you did there Paul....
Pentatonic is the easiest to play as a beginner but the hardest to master so it sounds good.
@@HigherPlanes How so? With only five notes in the scale, chances are any one of your given note options won't clash with any underlying chords.
@@KentQuickstad I'm saying it takes some skill so it sounds good, otherwise it sounds like every other pentatonic scale. Like employing slides, bends, vibrato, etc helps, and some knowledge about music theory is helpful in note selection, also having a good ear, stuff like that you know.
@@HigherPlanes Fair enough. I guess if you define sounding "good" as sounding different. I see what you're saying though.
@@KentQuickstad Yeah man.
Helped me so much in soloing over chord changes. Knowing the scales that lie over eachother helps so much
I love your camera work and the cutting! And you make me feel like I can't play the guitar at all....and I do since 1983 and played 30 year's live in bands
The editing and quality on this video is phenomenal Paul. Great work (and great lesson)
Beautiful lesson delivered clearly and constructively. A door opener. Thank you sir.
His editing skills are as good as his guitar playing. Love this guy. 👍🏻
Great lesson! The first one to finally fully explain the caged system! Bravo!
Your Videos are always created in a way so that a part of the energy you put into every video seem to spark over to myself! This is one of many great things of your personality, that keeps me practicing every day since I started your course a couple months ago. No open spot in my practicing calendar so far ;) Thank you Paul for all you do!
I love how many subscribers you have by now. You deserve each one of them man! Thanks!
Well explained, thanks for the run through, if only I'd had resources like this back in the 80s, took me years to link up what the major scale was for.
The access to knowledge that you and your RUclips friends share has to be the single biggest game changer in making it possible for more people to get better access to quality musical knowledge,
Thank you! You Inspire exponentially.
your the king man, i appreciate your explanations. Your videos really helped my learning curve out.
Keep up the great work !!
Great tut. I wish more were like this. No time wasted going over obvious things, makes you think, gives you the basis to teach yourself instead of just copying and memorising. Awesome, very helpful, thanks.
Paul, fantastic videos! Very inspiring throughout the last two years for me! I'll go ahead and become a patreon today :)
This man is by far the most knowledgeable/hip/engaging guitar guru on RUclips. Straight facts, lads
Paul- Brilliant video! All guitar players should watch this- Beginners and advanced players can all get something from it and that’s an incredible thing to do in a short video!
CAGED started with Nashville session guys for a good reason, it’s great way to map out the neck, keep up to speed and not get lost in any situation! Keep up the great work.
My guitar teacher started teaching me this 2 weeks ago. I wish people talked about this more frequently
Thank you Paul you are a great theacher . Easly to understand . Greatings from Switzerland 👌
Thank you for this information! It’s fantastic, and you make it so easy to understand 🤗
Dude this is by far the best vid on caged that I've found. Thank you!!!!
Man, you're such a great player and your energy always motivates me to be a better musician and to be happier
Kudos Paul. This is the most comprehensive 10 minute guitar lesson I've ever seen.
Wow sir you here!
Paul i really like the style of this one! super concise and you explain it so simply!
Good video Paul. One of your best !
You've gotten way more serious about your editing over summer. I like! :D
Well done on the filmmaking side of things Paul! Not really much of a guitar nerd myself (more keys, voice and violin), but the sharp editing makes it really engaging to watch, even if I don't get the concepts at first. Well done indeed!
Love youre humor, and youre teachingskills. Keep up the good work, man.
Very cool, Paul. Thanks for sharing.
That was the most inspiring guitar tone I've heard IN A WHILE!
You sir, have a new subscriber! This has to be one of the best instructional vids I’ve seen on RUclips
This video was truly inspiring and extremely entertaining.
After many years of taking lessons by trained scale shredders and memorizing all that stuff it wasn't until my last teacher (simple blues guy) brought up the CAGED system that I truly understood the connection of everything on the neck. This concept is pure gold and should be teached right away.
Hey hi thanks Paul this is gold you just put all the things I'm working on in one video.
Thank you Paul for all of your hard work.
A great simple to the point explanation.
You are a very good teacher. Great video. And a guitar to covet. Thanks very much for sharing.
Your production keeps getting better and better 👌 really adds to the experience.
Great sense of humour and great knowledge sharing! Big thanks!
Wow over 1M. Congrats man that is huge. You deserve it and hope it keeps growing.
Amazing lesson, very good examples and crystal clear explanation.
Bonus: congratulations on improving editing skills over the last 2 years, the quality increased tremendously. Also, the small jokes and easter-eggs add personality to the video! keep up the good work!
Wow this video has been edited and produced with a lot of effort! Keep it up, i appreciate and I eases to focus :) Thank you!
Paul Davids is a very nice man. Thank you for what you do.
I like everything about this video. Well done!
Your videos are always amazing
Clear and interesting
Brilliant as always
Really beautiful way of explaining, thank you
I learned this and the seven modes and how the major scale and the chords line up. It's really incredible how it opens up the instrument and how it works. That being said now I know how much more I don't know. Learn it.
Love your channel. I've learned so much in a short time with lots of fun. One suggestion? Maybe add the guitar chord tab under your chord names? It would be helpful to see a visual of the fret board as you teach. Thanks, Paul!
Holy shit I feel like you upped your production level by a ton! Lightning looks great and the edits are siiick!
Thanks 🙌🏼 I try my best
Great work!!
Things just made sense
Thank you so much
Great vid... leaves me wanting one of 10m straight shredding on that beautiful thinline!!
Thanx ! That revealed a whole new realm for me. I appreciate it.
Ye gods my man, I feel educated and entertained at the the time. It's like you love what you're doing...
Paul David's I love you. When I'm not growing my painting business I'm learning on my tele from each video you post. Yr the best, handsome!
This is what I’ve been looking for lately. Yearning for the nirvana. It’s easier on piano to achieve, but this is gonna change everything on my favorite instrument now.
Even not playing songs, just teaching, this tone is always amazing!
Truly, finding CAGED system (actually by myself accidentally) completely changed the way I play and I advanced so far since then. Everything started to make sense. It made eg. transposition so incredibly easy, I don't have to think about it now. I just play the song in barré style and then I just transpose wherever I want. Just beautiful.
amazing videos really helps me understand everything
So impressive with your delivery when explaining everything.
You're a legend brother 💪
Awesome as always!
Love your content + editing skills of videos❤️
