May send it in for that, or just get a taller front sight. But my Taurus 856? Flawless.

Brian Moore Revolvers are simple. No hassles of racking a slide, out of battery, jams, mags, manual safeties, or round in the chamber. They force the shooter to be a better marksman with limited capacity and in real world shooting cases only two to three rounds are needed anyway. If six shots won't take care of multiple threats a speed strip can reload quickly. But we are responsible for every round that leaves our gun because a lawyer is attached to every bullet. Capacity won't do anyone any good with poor marksmanship. The shooter needs to practice and train no matter what pistol be it an autoloader or revolver. Let's make 2023 the year of the revolver.

I just bought one, the stainless steel version, after admiring these for several years. My barrel actually measures 2.108” with my caliper I use for reloading. It turns in an average of 1090 FPS with Underwood 125 +P JHP ammo. Mine has a very nice trigger in both DA and SA modes. I do not have a trigger pull weight scale but I can say I believe mine is in the nine pound range DA and probably no more than three pounds SA. It carries well. Shoots great. The one I have seems to be every bit as good as my Rugers, S&Ws, and my long favorite Charter Bulldog from the Bridgeport era. Great video!

I love this pocket cannon too…got it during the shortages in 2020, got my hands on the last box of .38 in town, next day found a cheap pocket holster in my driveway.
Being the last and cheapest one available online it was the blue on black kind, which matches my motorcycle and my new car eerily well…(all happenstance)
But it was not cheap. Cost me nearly $500 and I was not walking my essential worker ass around unprotected.
I’m writing all this to tell you this is not a low quality or boring weapon (I’m sure you agree). I had the target as far back as the range would go and I dumped the reload into the target…it was magnificent. Glorious even. ✌🏻
I know they say don’t use +p FMJ balls but I say don’t try to hide behind stuff and kill me atst. Which is what they’re gonna do because I’ve always been un-robbable by nature.

My dad used to always carry a 38spl and when he passed I got his guns one of which was a Taurus 85UL. It only holds 5 rounds of 38spl but it is nice to shoot and I am slowly understanding why he liked them so much. After carrying it for a couple weeks I put it away because I didnt want to lose it if I were ever in a self defense situation. Sometimes the police take your firearm and sometimes they dont. Same goes with getting them back. You may or may not depending on the situation. Even then you may not see it for months. I had a buddy selling a Taurus 605 which is almost identical with the exception that its a 357mag 5 shot. So I picked that up and carry it from time to time. Took it to the range and its a snappy little spitfire. I admit I need more practice with it as I am used to 9mm and 45acp but for the money and quality you get with a Taurus its not bad. Thanks, Buffalo.
Light revolvers are great. They need to get more coverage, I'm glad you did this video. One of my three "most used" EDC guns is a S&W 642.
I prefer a DAO "hammerless" or a concealed hammer like a S&W 38/638/438. I also have a Colt Detective Special with an added hammer shroud. I prefer stainless/aluminum construction for concealed carry in the hot/humid climate where I live. I'm always sweating on the gun and wipe it off with a cloth every day when I take it off for the night. The Stainless hasn't rusted, but sweat can attack the anodized finish on the aluminum frame.
Taurus should consider adding a concealed hammer model and a stainless/aluminum model.
FYI, both the Colt and the S&W fit in the same DeSantis Mini-Scabbard holster with just an adjustment of the tension screw. I imagine this revolver would fit the same holsters.
As for the rubber grips...they are fine at the range. Especially when shooting +P ammo. I've had trouble with them for concealed carry. They are a bit "sticky" in texture and can cling to your shirt and leave you gun exposed when getting out of a vehicle or reaching for stuff on the top shelf in the grocery store. For CC I prefer small wood grips and add a "Tyler T-grip" adapter. Old school. But...I'm old.

I like the lack of a Hillary Hole. Looks and functions like a S&W. i have used many Rossi's and Taurus's built to the S&W pattern and have really liked them all. The quality of the two revolvers is about the same as the new S&W's...The quality of the Brazilian revolvers has risen considerably while the Smiths have declined considerably. The little Charter Arms J frame sizes are on par as well. Now the OLDER S&W's are a completely different matter; they are absolutely superb!...By the way, 40 yards Double Action hits with a stiff trigger, 2 inch snubby is very good shooting. Outstanding.

About 25 years ago I bought the first 5 shot ultra lite I could get my hands on. Model 85. Everyone that has shot it comments favorably. I used to have an 18" gong on my property at 100 yards and when I was feeling my oats I could ring it 5 out of 5 times with my handloads. Sure a nice little gun. Would be nice if it was a 6 shooter but it is what it is.

Taurus had an Ultra Lite model called the 450 that was in 45 colt but the pandemic screwed up their titanium supply so they dropped it. It must have been a pretty good gun because I've been looking for one two years now and they almost never show up.
    I'll get one someday...lol

Definitely a solid looking alternative to a J frame. The grips look like they'll do pretty good to make the shooting experience better. Been eyeballing a lot of revolvers as of late...recently picked up a 629. Wife has a 638 J frame, but she's never fired it since it was a limited run with some collectability. Need a better trigger pull gauge that registers higher than my wheeler. Will be on the lookout for your review of the one you used.
    Anyways, thanks for the review!

I saw that Taurus makes a 856 TORO, which is an optics ready version of this revolver. It seems like people are putting optics on just about everything nowadays. That scale looks great, it's nice to be able to measure heavier pull weights.

    • @buffalosoutdoors
      @buffalosoutdoors  Год назад +2

Yes, optics on defensive revolvers seems to be in vogue these days. I have micro dots on a couple of hunting/competition style revolvers but I don't have one on a carry gun yet. I might give it a try though....

I don't have any optics/dots on revolvers but I have a couple of autoloaders I like them on. I've started getting "old eyes" and the dots really help a lot. You are still spot on, we can see it in your videos, you're still an excellent shot. I can't have a cup of coffee and then be accurate past 25/30 yard or so with iron sights on a pistol. Getting older sucks but it beats the alternative, lol. Best wishes Buffalo.

I have the 856 Defender +P three inch matte black stainless steel. I think they use cerakote over the stainless steel. It came with a tritium day/night front sight with a spare dot front sight. It also came with Hogue rubber grips and with the smaller Taurus rubber grips. Price was around $379.99 but after taxes and NICS over $400. I like it a lot. I just need to get it to the gun range and get some rounds through it. Got an Andicen IWB/OWB leather thumb break/snap holster for both inside and outside the pants. Thanks for the wheel love.

I have a strong preference for the Taurus 856 and intend to purchase it in the near future. On the positive side, it offers several advantages over the previous model 605, such as an increased round capacity of 6 instead of 5. However, on the negative side, I would have preferred a blued finish rather than the current ceracoted black finish.
