I have the 856 Executive model. Stainless steel. hand tuned and finished, with a 3" barrel. Wood grips. Overall it looks like a real work of art!

Taurus makes some nice looking guns, and a lot of folks love them, especially for the price point. I've never had good luck with Taurus, but as they say, your mileage may vary.

Man, I know this review 5 months old, but I really appreciate that you talked about how any 2" barrel firearm's effective use is closer range, citing 21 feet. I would say that, in reality, it's closer to under 15 feet in a personal defense scenario. I wish more reviewers would be honest about this, instead of testing 2" barrel guns at 10 yards or something like that.

I am a revolver type of guy. S&W M28 was my #1 sidearm in police work for ages. And now long retired, I still prefer revolvers. Don't care for plastic wonder 9mm contraptions.
Now two years ago I had cataract surgery in both eyes, leaving me with exceptional distance vision. However, up close everything is a blur. So much so that the front sight on a 2" revolver is invisible. I shot poorly with a S&W 642. A year ago I was visiting my local buddies at their shop, and spotted a Taurus 856UL Defender 3" in black. When it was handed to me the first thing I noticed was the front sight. Meaning, I NOTICED IT! That's a game changer right there. And the balance was great. I traded the 642, and never looked back. That 1" additional barrel length, an additional round, a
better grip and balance, and a sight I could see? Yeah, for me, it was a step up. I've since added slightly larger engraved rosewood grips to complete the weapon. Done! I stopped looking for a concealed carry revolver.
To date, 1,800 rounds fired. Action smoothed out well. Timing and cylinder lock-up is perfect. A neighbor wanted to buy it from me for his wife. I smiled and directed him to my favorite shop to buy his own. Mine is not for sale. 😏

New CCW folk here. I bought this same revolver (in black) and went with it bc I needed to discipline myself on carrying, so needed to start with a revolver. This one was very light, affordable, and had 6 shots. It does have a kick, but more you train with it more it goes away. It's comfortable inside the waist carry and I don't have to worry about treating it like it's gold. It gets the job down. Carry it with gym shirts, jeans, heck even carried it with swim trunks on. Lol. Highly recommend this to a new CCW person. I even got it's lil brother, the 942 22lr 8shot in stainless steel. Now that lil jank is awesome, but lil heavier bc it's not an UL. Go Taurus!!🤘🐂

I have had an early all stainless 856 for 15-20 years, I guess. It has been carried a lot and shot for BUG qualification and has always worked. I love the 6 shot capacity. Many of my colleagues carried Taurus revolvers as back up guns, and they swore by them. I did replace the rubber grips with a laminated boot grip, and love it. I am tempted to buy another one just to have a spare.

I still think that for the money, the best carry revolver in the market for ME, is the LCR 3". Good adjustable sights, ligh, do not corrode and a pleasure to shoot. Only mode be the snubby gribs for concealment and fiber optic front sights. I do not pocket carry and that's why it works for me.

Been on the fence about one of these. Local FFL has them for around $300. I think I’ll go check one out today and get my first revolver!

I just recently purchased a new Taurus 942 Ultra Lite Revolver in 22LR. It was defective out of the box, would not ignite any primers. Sent it back to Taurus, after waiting 3 weeks for an update they finally answered their customer service line. They said the frame was so defective they would need to destroy the firearm and issue me a new one, replacing the serial number. Wait 8 weeks for delivery and I have to do an FFL transfer AND pay for it. Just a heads up. Still waiting 7 weeks later.

I have owned j frames for over 20 years some of my smiths are older i have 2 newer ones like within the last 7 years the newer ones i have have qc issues my very expensive 360 has barrel cant and the hammer rubs the inside of the frame that being said it shoots just fine so i never sent it in ,i recently picked up an 856 ul i wanted a 6 shot and only weighs an oz heavier ,no qc issues whatsoever with the taurus shoots just fine and reliable ,carries in a sticky holster at 1 oclock just like a j frame ,the extra oz helps with the hotter loads from underwood.

I have one of these, the all-gray version. It does not have a pinned front sight, and the barrel does not come off the frame at exactly a 90-degree angle; it leans about half a degree to the left. That won't make any difference accuracy-wise at short range, but I expected better quality.

    I bought a brand new Taurus 605.
Never been shot and the cylinder screw just fell out.
On the inside of the gun the extractor was all chewed up.
And some gouge marks on the tips of the extractor star.
Nicks all over the black matte finish.
Called Taurus and said I wanted a refund this is unacceptable.
They told me they could not do that just repair it.
That will be a 4 week turn around.
    What a disappointment.
Right out of the box never shot or even played with.
These people don't really care apparently.
I will never buy another one again.
I remember back in the 90's a friend of mine had a Taurus and it kept acting up on him.
    At least they are consistent
    Up your Taurus.

Whenever I see Taurus hater in Facebook group, its always some chubby old fella lol. Taurus makes great revolvers. I have Taurus 692 7 shot 357 with 9mm spare cylinder. Its better revolver than my Ruger gp100 that is only 6 shot. I dont even consider SW or Colt. Mediocre revolvers, for that money you better get sig p226 or p229 and have a better firearm with more rounds.

Not so much anymore and now that Ruger has moved upmarket, Taurus is filling the void of the "working man's gun"

    • @kyrozudesoya1829
      @kyrozudesoya1829 8 месяцев назад

@@weirdshibainuRuger hasn't moved upmarket, inflation and not drilling for oil causes everything to go up in price. They have to up their costs due to this. Nevermind that They've got plenty of good budget friendly guns to compete with Taurus but actually have good customer service to back it up with, something Taurus still struggles with.

    • @weirdshibainu

@@kyrozudesoya1829 Yes they did. Inflation is just a part of it. The move to upmarket was started by the promotion of the current CEO Killoy who was the V.P. of sales and marketing for Smith and Wesson.

Years ago, when S&W started producing a .357 Mag J-frame, they realized it really didn't make sense for them to have two different J-frame versions, one with a "stretched out" window to accommodate the .357 cartridge length, and one with a shorter window for everything else. So they decided that they were going to use the .357-sized frame for everything using the same sized cylinder. They likely saw the numbers and realized that the extra expense of more material in the cylinder was outweighed by a simpler and less complex manufacturing process. The .38 Special versions are technically long enough to hold a .357 cartridge, but they put in a constriction to prevent that from happening because the metal in the cylinder is not rated for it
