I have had a Taurus 856 for many years, I got it to carry as a BUG when I was a police officer, and it was a reliable pocket pistol. I put checkered boot grips on it when my rubber grips wore down from constant carry. It is a good gun, and I like the fact that it holds 6 instead of 5. I may get me one of the newer 856 revolvers just to have as a spare. I hope you still like yours.
Would you consider it to be as good as the small lightweight S&W snub noses?
@@Christian_News_Junkie_Dot_Com The quality of manufacture of the few Smiths that I have had is better than these. That being said, as a police officer, my equipment was rode hard and put away wet. I found the Taurus to be perfectly serviceable for my use, and having the extra round was great for my paranoia. The Smiths were way more expensive and could be damaged too, but they were fixed faster than the Taurus. The main benefit of the Taurus was the lower initial cost meant that you weren’t upset when in the course of duty use it got banged up and scratched. Ruger revolvers were also good, but they weighed a ton.
@@Christian_News_Junkie_Dot_Com Taurus took over the Beretta plant. A lot of the people who use to build Berettas stuck around for to build Taurus so there knowledge got passed down to younger individuals. If you buy a Taurus, your buying a Beretta.

@@mikeh3084 I bought a Ruger SP101 3". The cylinder is binding. I am planning on sending it back to the factory. I like the way it looks but I am not shooting very good with it. I have a few Glock 43x and a Glock 48...I can do much better with those. I had a Taurus 605SS2 once and it wasn't bad. I think I'd buy another Taurus given what you said, if I was in the market for another revolver.
Why don’t you like the UL?
My senior mother got one for home-defense and carry. It is a great little revolver that shoots very well for it's size. The recoil is surprisingly light for such a compact revolver. Almost even with my full 4 inch barrel Ruger .357 when shooting .38 special. Taurus did a good job on the 856.
I think they're great guns.
A lot of people talk about Taurus quality getting better these days. I’ve owned a bunch of model 85’s over the years and haven’t had a bad one yet. I’ve recently added two 856’s, a blued one and a stainless. Again, great little guns. I do wish they would add an option of the high gloss polish they used to have. Great vid sir.
Thank you sir I havent had a problem out of any of my Taurus' either. A polished one would be sweet for sure.😎
I'm making a switch from semi autos to revolvers. I already bought a Heritage Rough Rider with a 4.75" barrel to replace my S&W .22lr compact and now I am looking at a Taurus 856 stainless to replace my Ruger lc9s. I just like revolvers better because they are simple. I also have a lot of arthritis trouble in my hands and it's becoming a problem loading magazines. The revolvers are much easier for me to load.
There's definitely something to be said about a good revolver.😎👍
@@ToolsandTargets Well, I traded my Ruger LC9s for a Taurue 856 brushed stainless just like yours amd I love it. It is a good looker, I like the weight and the feel of it. It shoots great, but I need to be a better shot.
I have four homemade swinging steel targets about a 4: square at, 7, 10,15,and 20 yds. I can hit the first three just about every time, but that fourth one, at 20 yds, I miss more than I hit. I need to set up a larger target there to see where my shot is going so I can correct then problem. (me) Thanks again for your videos, I really do enjoy watching them.
My senior mother bought one and she can shoot the 856 very well. It is a great little revolver.
Nice looking Taurus Revolver we bought our Daughter in law the Black one She Really likes it Great video Tools Stay Safe Stay 2A Strong 🇺🇸
Thank you sir. This is a great little revolver so far!😎
@@ToolsandTargets I like the way the grips feel they are good shooters
Y'all won the in-laws of the year award right there!
I bought my dad that same gun for Father's Day last year he loves the hell out of it the only difference is is the trigger and Hammer are gold. Another great video Tools..🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
Nice. That sounds fancy!👍
I literally just bought mine a few days ago. I felt like it'd be a good starter gun. I cleaned mine before I even used it. So far I like the way it feels and shoots.
Nice. I think it's a great revolver. I've put a tritium front sight blade and some fancy grips on mine.
I've had mine for almost a year now. Love it. Once the trigger gets broken in, it is smooooth!
I just ordered a night front sight blade for mine and a fancy set of grips. Sweet little revolver.😎
I really like the brushed look. I've heard all types opinions on em, personally never had any trouble with Taurus
I’ve got a 856 UL and I love it. I mostly practice with standard pressure hand loads. But I do occasionally shoot good full power 38 special +p out of it and find recoil very tolerable and easy to hit with even when shooting quickly.
Nice. This one has been great!
Went back and forth in my mind between the Taurus 856 and the Armscor M206. Finally pulled the trigger (pun intended) on the Taurus. Shipped and transferred it was about $75 more than the Armscor. Went with the Taurus mainly because of better parts finishing (not as rough) and the fact it was available in stainless, which I got. Carrying it everyday the stainless steel is very appealing. A lot less maintenance.
I like em both but I would have to give the edge to the Taurus also.👍
I love my m206 it’s really about the most gun I’ve ever gotten for my money. It’s a rock solid gun, that said the Taurus is still an upgrade. Great buy 👍
I think they're both great little revolvers.😎
@@ToolsandTargetsI totally agree love both
Nice. I'm eyeballing a 3" stainless 856 with night sights for a great price right now.... I don't need it at all but the price is great for the features. Great short and to the point review!
Yes! The 3" is a very capable weapon. So much better than the very expensive name brands.
Haven’t had any complaints about Taurus revolvers, and this one looks to be a great heir to the Detective Special.
I really like my Taurus revolvers. I'm actually about to go pick up a 605.👍
Great looking little 38. Taurus has always made a pretty decent revolver.
So far I'm definitely happy with it.👍
They're fine as long as you don't shoot them. 😄
@@seanmathews1826Geez I hope not.
I noticed where the deflected shells lands thanks to your dry conditions at the range. That was very informative to my limited knowledge (increasing though!). I love my 856 and have had (and loved) the RI 206 (stupidly sold it on a whim) and your mention makes me want to go get another one. Thank you for posting your videos!
Personally I feel the rock island version is much heavier. Originally when I was purchasing my revolver I wanted that rock island snub, but after holding them both and testing the release pin, and the cylinder I much preferred the Taurus. I’m very happy with my decision thus far 😀 your video helped me!
Taurus definitely has a better fit and finish.👍
This is really good to hear. I’m between the Taurus 856 and the RIA m206 and the choice is difficult lol
@@WhiskyWoof if you have the extra cash, definitely go with the Taurus. I will say, I got the ultra light titanium Taurus and somewhat wish I had gotten the regular 856, love the weight of the ultra light when carrying, but boy does it kick! 😎
@@WhiskyWoofI find both about the same
Great Vid. I love that gun! I also have the 3” version the 856 Defender. Both are great shooters! Thanks for confirming. Nice work! Keep em coming!
Thank you sir! I think Taurus makes some great revolvers.😎
I've always had good fortune with taurus even back in the 90's .
Enjoyed your review. I'm carrying my Taurus 856. Have had it since it first hit the market.
Thank you sir. I've fancied mine up with some G10 grips and a tritium front sight blade since this. I think it's a great revolver.😎
In expensive no longer means lesser quality. It’s fun watching gun companies compete. I’d carry a 686 in a heartbeat. Good video T.
Thank you sir. Agreed. There are tons of super nice inexpensive guns out here now.😎
True, I've shot decent $200 rifles.
I have it in all black. All I can say is wow. It’s amazing little gun especially at the price. Definitely highly recommend for a carry purchase
Agreed. It's an excellent revolver.👍
@Some Guy 99 Yessir.👍
I've been looking at that exact model, thanks for sharing Tools.
It's a great revolver so far. Thanks for checking out the vid.😎
Fun review. My 856 38 snubs tended to sandpaper my hand. So, I just bought two more with the walnut longer grips. I can't wait to shoot those. Keep Attacking, T&T!!! Good job.
I love that you call the locks hanging targets that’s actually a really good idea lol
That's about all they're good for.😂
Been watching ya for years now tools, just got my 856 today and I had to loop back and rewatch this one ❤
Nice! Shot it yet?
Wonderful video. Your videos are always so much fun to watch. Keep up the good work!
Tools that’s a nice revolver now. I have 3 Taurus semi-autos two 9mm’s and a 380. I finally found the load my 9’s liked 124gr bullets loaded hot. This is the first time I’ve seen your videos
Thank you brother. I haven't had problems with any of my Taurus'. i think they're great guns.😎
Great video. I just picked up the same stainless steel 2 inch yesterday and the 3 inch Tungsten Grey version with the wood handle.
Nice! It's a great gun so far. Appreciate you checkin out the vid.😎
I’ve got the Ultralight. It shoots well! It’s very light, one I carry in the summer. Not snappy at all with regular ammo! +P stuff you feel a tad but Taurus does a pretty nice job with their grips!
Yessir. These grips are pretty good on the .38. I've got a .44 Mag tracker and the checkering on the backstrap dug into my hand pretty bad with the recoil but they work on this little guy.😎
+p shouldn’t be ran through the ultra light
@@wicked_eight8015 Not true
@@wicked_eight8015 Incorrect.
I have to disagree about the factory grips on the 856. I didn't like them at all. The main problem is that they completely fill the area behind the trigger guard forcing a lower hand position. I replaced them with the Pachmayr wood grips. Amazing improvement!
Nice. Like the fact it has the removable blade front sight. Lots of nice 85 grip options out there too.
Yeah, I thought that was pretty cool too. There are probably some nice fiber options you can replace it with. I'm definitely gonna check out some grips. These aren't bad but I can't leave well enough alone!😆
@@ToolsandTargets done a few stone and spring jobs on these. Can get a real slick action with a little tlc.
@@Dan-or7fb Oooh I bet it's super nice after that!😲
Taurus has really improved its products over the years. The only complaint I have with any Taurus I’ve bought is with the trigger on a little bobbed hammer .38 I got for my wife. I got the bobbed hammer so it wouldn’t catch on anything in her purse. It only runs in double action, so it seems like you’re squeezing that trigger for about two days before you get a shot off.
Yeah sometimes them double action only's seem like you need to catch a taxi to get to the trigger break.😆
Great video! I picked up one today. 856 stainless. Like yours it’s smooth, crisp, locks up tight and shoots pretty much right on minute of Vienna sausage can at ten to twelve yards. Very limited range test so far but it’s gonna be a good one!
"Minute of Vienna Sausage can." 😂😂😂 Love it!
Another great video Tools. I'd like one of those 856's but I blew the budget on the GX4 at the beginning of the month and an old Model '94 last week. I already have two snubbies I rotate anyway, an LCR and an old H&R in .32 mag. Thanks for a thorough review!
Thank you sir! How ya liking that GX4? I carry the p365 but I'll probably grab a GX4 once my RK gets it in stock just to compare.😎
@@ToolsandTargets I do like it but I want to shoot it more and once I make a holster for it I'll carry it awhile and see how it goes.
Another quality review bro. I was in the market for a little pocket revolver that doesn't break the bank and works well. It's even small enough for my 13 yr old could handle very well. I saw one recently at my LGS the UL model for a great price I had to snatch it up. Looks like something I could conceal very well or just have in my glove compartment. Now if only the 38 special ammo could come back things would be perfect.
Thank you sir. I've been pretty lucky to find the ammo at RK at good prices but I've seen some ridiculous prices on it at other places.😣
No 3" six shot can be carried in a pocket, at least not reasonably. And hey, any gun in your pocket is quickly accessible if you are seated. Defense weapons belong on your belt; so says anyone who might need a gun "right now.)
Oops. I meant "quickly accessible."
Rats. I meant NOT quickly..
Had an 85 UL a few years ago…loved it. Was a lil too bulky for carry, so traded her for a Ruger LC9S Pro. After seeing your vid, makes me want to save my pennies for an 856. The stainless would be a nice companion for my stainless GP100. Love the vids Tools!
Thank you sir. I love these little Taurus revolvers.
Great feeling/looking pistol! Been wanting another one and I'm glad I went with this one!
I really like em. Actually have a black one still brand new in the box that I bought just to have it.😆
Nice review on the 856. I used to have a 642 J frame and was looking at something to refit that role. Nice shooting btw.
Thank you sir. It's a great little revolver.👍
Awesome nice piece Taurus doing well with their guns lately
Thank you sir and yeah, they're turnin up the heat for sure.😎
It really is a nice looking gun. The grip looks solid.
I thought so too. Grips actually feel pretty nice too. Appreciate you checkin it out.😎
Hey ! Santee!!
@@randyadams03 Hey Randy!

@@SanteeTV Did you get baby brother some MREs?
I had this and I had to locktite the screws. I got the .357 version for $50 more later and gave this to my mom. The .357 screws have not come loose. It is only a 5 shot so it's nice knowing one round could end a self defense situation more than likely with a .357, I can handle the recoil so it not so bad.
Seems to me that the 4" would have expanded more, Back in the early 80s when I was a Deputy Sheriff, I carried a 357 Magnum with Remington 125gr SJHP at 1,450 fps from a 4" S&W Model 19-1, and for back-up a Beretta 950-B w/tip up barrel in 25ACP, the main problem with the magnum was muzzle flash, It was like popping a flash bulb in your face at night or low light, It was white and as big as a basket ball, So I got some Federal rounds and it was more like an orange ball of light the size of a softball, you we not joking about price, It's been awhile since I priced any and damn they are way up there. Thanks for the test. 👍🇺🇸
😎👍
I own the 856 Ultralite she’s been good to me, no complaints at all 👌
This one has been perfect. I put some new grips just for the looks and a tritium front sight blade on it since this.😎
I have this exact same model, and I am very impressed with it.
It's a great revolver. I upgraded mine since this with a tritium front sight blade and a fancy set of VZ grips.😎
It's hard to improve on the original 85, but adding a shot did its magic. Great review.
Great review, keep up the good work, definitely picking up one this week.
Was a good video really liked it I bought the 856 about 2 months ago so far so good. Ty again
Thank you sir. I think it's a great little revolver.😎
Thank you very much for taking time and making this video. I like your review it is informative and entertaining. I am subscribing to your channel.
Appreciate that!😎👊
Bought the 605 and had to send it back after 11 rounds, it was shaving lead because they forgot to throat the barrel. Don't get me wrong I love Taurus firearms, I own several.
Ahh, that's a shame. I've been pretty lucky and haven't had any issues with any of them so far.
I have the same exact gun, looks good, shoots good and priced good. It don't get much gooder than that.
The most goodest!😎
Im glad you’ve never got a lemon, i got a couple of them over the years, one the barrel was full of rust
That's just character!😜
Got the same one last weekend. I actually preferred the pinned sight being black instead of the all stainless sight on the other one .
Nice. It's pretty cool that they made it removeable so you could change it out for something else if you wanted.😎
I bought one myself. I carry it for personal defense every day!!
I think it's a great revolver.👍
I really like the fact that we don't have to watch you load each cartridge and you pack a lot in a short time
Love my old 85 snubby with original wood grips and stainless steel
Awesome I was just checking to see if you put out a video. Have a great day man.
Thank you sir. This is the only one they've let out of RUclips jail so far. I literally have 6 more uploaded just waiting. Appreciate all the support brother!😎
What I’ll say about Taurus wheelguns: there are some problem guns, but in my experience if something’s wrong you can generally catch it with the naked eye by inspecting it at the store. If the sights are cut straight, the action cycles normally etc., you are probably good to go and they can turn out to be nice trustworthy tools.
Double action triggers will smooth out with use for sure, and the nice single action pull you encountered out of the box is typical.
Six rounds instead of five is a nice improvement.
All of mine have been great, but I always look over everything and make sure it's all tight and right before I take it out for the first time.
Just bought one of these, love it.
I think it's a great revolver.👍
🇦🇺😎👍Nice…. I missed his video… I like those little revolvers….I wonder why the trigger pull varies so much🤔💭…we missed you on Friday ( our Friday)….that is a nice little shooter🏁…great video mate

I agree. I think it's great. Just ordered some fancy VZ grips and a tritium front sight blade for mine. 😎
It use only 38 cal ?
Love my 856 tools... use to have a 3 inch ultra light 85 nice blued finish... idk why Taurus doesnt do that anymore.. fit n finish was up there real nice
Probably costed em more than the flat finish they use now.😣
I have this revolver with the factory G10 grips. It’s a great little shooter👍

I've had mine over a year and I love this 856 38 a great shooter
Nice. I just ordered a fancy set of VZ grips and a tritium front sight blade for this one.😎
The weight and the brushed stainless sold me yesterday, bought the same one...9 more days till range day !!!
good review. i have arthritic hand problems. i prefer 22's. but the 856 was on sale, and i wanted something with a little more punch, so i bought one. haven't practiced yet, breaking in a iwb leather holster. when all the holiday crap is over i plan on going to the range and see how it handles. your video looked good with little recoil and accuracy. thanks.
Nice! I think you'll really like it. It's a great shooter and not too bad at all with the recoil. I've actually upgraded mine a little since this with a Tritium front sight blade and a fancy set of VZ grips.😎
A 3" 8 round 22WMR is on my list!
Taurus has a tritium front sight for that. Also they have wooden grips and a variety of holsters in their store.
Nice. I might have to take a look at some goodies for it.😎
Ive looked at those a few times I've had the 5 shot version never had any problems out of it
It's a sweet little revolver so far.👍

I'm a brand new gun owner, and still learning and want to learn how to safely use the gun properly. I bought a Taurus G2C last summer. My wife is also interested in purchasing a hand gun.
We wanted to do this for target practice and for protection. I absolutely pray we never have to use a gun for the latter.
@@bobstewart8032 Amen! Definitely good to be prepared for whatever could happen.👍
Been wanting to pick up one of these as a less expensive though still reliable carry especially when you might have to lock it up in the car at times vs. leaving the S&W or Colt DS behind. However with 6 rounds this might become a favorite as well. Looks like it shoots fine and accurately....yeah it is hard not to want to shoot just one more cylinder with those snubbies. Thanks, sir!
Yessir. You just wanna keep fillin it up. Appreciate you checking out the vid.😎
I had a 85 that broke with magtech 38s, sent it back and it still would jump time. Gonna get 1 of these sat and try it, looks built a lot better

I just pick up one of these for a boot gun. I really like her so far no complaints.
Nice. I think it's a great revolver.
My recommendation for making a Taurus 856 more user friendly is replacing the hammer and Trigger springs with Galloway Springs on my ultra light it brought the double action pull to 6.2 pounds and the hammer fall to 3 pounds much better for an old man.
Awesome lil’ revolver surprisingly accurate for a snub nose !!!
That taurus revolver looks like a nice little pistol I also like the rock island pistol too thanks for the video I love your videos

Been wanting to add a revolver to my edc rotation, been looking at one of these
I really like this one.👍
Just got the 3" Version in ss. Its a keeper.
Nice. I think they're great revolvers.
Nice work there Tools. As a revolver shooter I'd like to offer up a suggestion...choke up on the gun a little. I shouldn't see any of the gun between the top of your hand and the knuckle of the frame. It gives you more control of the gun and lightens the trigger pull (changes the angle of the leverage, from the angle of your trigger finger). You can see what I'm describing in my last couple revolver videos.
I know what ya mean for sure. The problem I have with these little .38's is I have very big hands/long fingers and I have to try to tuck my thumb out of the way so it doesn't get smacked by the back of the cylinder. That causes my grip to get a little wonky for sure. I don't have that problem too much with larger framed ones like my .44 mag. The Rock Island is even worse because it has that skinny little wood grip that I'm too stubborn to change because I like the looks.😂 Appreciate the advice brother!
@@ToolsandTargets Big hands, little grips do create their own set of issues that's for sure. Choking up will still likely help I think.
My missus carries an older model 856 that is not +p rated...she is just fine with it...simple and reliable is a good combination...
Absolutely. This one has been great so far.😎
The taurus 856 executive grade really nice 3" barrel very good trigger

just my experience - i have about 75 rounds through my 856 and the cylinder just free spins and won't lock up. Taurus says through email they will send me a new plunger and spring (5 months ago and have not received it). I would not trust it as a carry and never will.

Nice buy for you Tools! May pick one up soon. On the M206 may want to put a pachmayr grip adapter for a better purchase and helps with accuracy. I've put them on a Taurus Model 82 with slim wood grips and on a S&W Victory revolver pre Model 10. Keep the original look, but make it classy. 🎩☯️♠️🏁
