Great tip. Shot a lot of wheel gun ammo. Never had that happen. Thank the lord. I was a police officer for 32 years. We went to pistols later so we could keep up with the bad guys. Keep up the good work my friend.
Thank you so much for this video. I am retired police and now pastor a church. We do monthly shooting fellowships. For many of our guys they have had very little experience with revolvers but are getting into it. This is priceless training for those under 50.
My cousin was a tank commander back in the late 70s and 80s. He was in Germany and was part of one of the first crews to get the M1A1 Abrams main battle tank. He was accustomed to being near tanks when they fired and at a tank demonstration after his discharge from active duty in 1990, he went to a tank demonstration in the UK. He knew many of the guys that did the restoration because they sometimes consulted him on questions. His wife was videotaping the demonstration of a newly restored Panzer IV with a muzzle brake on its 88 gun. He was standing a little bit forward of the turret on the right side of the tank about maybe 90 to 100 feet away and it just didn’t enter his mind that he might want to back up some. When the gun was fired, he got a blast of small rocks, hot air with maybe some still unburned powder, and a nice concussion. His wife asked if he was OK and he just walked back to her somewhat cussing with a pocked cheek, a ringing in his ear, a coating of dust, and his recently grown hair blown to the right side of his head. 😂 EDIT: Actually, maybe it wasn’t the 88 on that tank. I think maybe only the Tigers mounted an 88 except for tanks modified to become tank killers. I think the JagdPanther may have mounted an 88.

I volunteered for that demonstration 40 years ago. I'm currently looking at and admiring the scar on my thumb. Emergency room removed most of the exploding round. Small parts of the brass would emerge over the years.
My Granduncle made that mistake once, he was shooting his revolver and he just let his hand slip a little too far forward when bringing his left hand up to the gun. The thing blew a gash through the side of his thumb and my dad had to drive him 60 miles hollering, cursing, and bleeding to the nearest hospital so they could sew the damn thing back together.
Been there, and done that (45 years ago.). The wounds healed decades ago but the memory still makes me wince. I had been shooting auto-loading pistols exclusively for a couple of years when I decided to bring my Ruger Speed Six .357, which had been my main carry gun, on a camping trip and neglected to alter my grip. After that, I adopted a grip that was suitable for revolvers and auto-loaders. There are certain mistakes that anyone might make once but only a fool would do more than once.
I wrapped my finger around a 22 revolver. I was shooting the semi-auto all day, then we loaded my buddies revolver and I wrapped my fingers around and shot. It hurt and I had fragments buried in my fingers. I thought it was just burnt tissue until it didn't go away and I had to take a needle to dig out the shards. Glad it was just a .22, but I Wish I would have watched this first!
With practice you could probably do it. I'm a woman and I am comfortable with 44 mags(not short light ones). I'll admit that I won't shoot one for hours at a time as I do with 22LR or 38 special. When alone in bear and mountain lion country I am happy to have a 44 mag with me.
i've always liked revolvers and my first duty weapon was a revolver with two speed loaders. I shot it for years and never had any problems. It was always considered one of the best guns for battle because a person couldn't screw things up by being nervous. You can press the revolver into someone and it will still shoot unlike semi autos that fail to cycle. Many of us used them as back up guns. Interesting video. Thanks
I'm not what I'd call knowledgeable on firearms other than having hunted moose and caribou with a bolt-action 30-06 or an 8mm Lebel around Lake Susitna, Alaska many decades ago. I was aware that revolvers could spit some quantity of stuff sideways, and to keep your body parts out of the way. But now that I've given away my hunting gear to younger folk, and my gun ownership is down to just a little 5-shot .38 Special revolver for personal protection, I very much appreciate this dramatic demonstration! Thank you, Sir! Oh, and to the guy who said, "I doubt ur 75 and on RUclips," I also am 75 and here I am, and I'm even able and willing to spell words out even at the grueling effort of making a few extra keystrokes , , ,
I think most of the damage was actually caused by the muzzle, I think he should have done a demonstration with the paper behind the muzzle. Also funny how the algorithme is suggesting this now, to all of us.
he seems like such a nice guy , would love to have him as my firearms teacher. I always wanted a gun to protect myself or just for the sport but I live in Belgium and we have one of the most strict gun laws here so sadly I will never be able to own one :(
I opened a Roanoke Virginia phone book to the middle, and laid it over the top of my S&W .460 revolver like the roof on a barn. Pulled the trigger, and covered the front porch, yard, car, deck, myself, and my dog, in cheap confetti on the first round. the only thing that remained of the phone book was the 2" wide spine that was a ragged inch or so deep. The dog hated me, my girlfriend hated me, I spent two hours raking the yard and sweeping the deck, and I was glad to be wearing my safety glasses. Don't try this at home, and listen to Hickock45: The cylinder gap of ANY revolver is not a good place to have your soft parts when shooting.
I remember shooting my revolver as a young cop and just absolutely being AMAZED at the flames, sparks, chunks of burning powder and debris that would leap out of the front and rear of the cylinder (particularly during night time fire, but you could still see it during the day). I also remember wiping visible powder residue off of my hands even though I kept them well positioned on the grip behind the hammer.. .you still got splattered.
Wow. I've carried and shot revolvers for years. I just like them more than semis. I always knew you could burn yourself with the gasses coming out in front of the cyinder but never knew it had that much force. Great demonstration. Thnx.
I was trained on the M14 in the Navy and the 357 revolver when a correction officer and it was never mentioned about the danger u just demonstrated. Excellent video and instructions, TYVM.

Thanks for this video. I've been trying different handguns prior to purchase and I had no idea about this. The guys at one of the ranges I go to don't give much warning before renting out a gun, even when I tell them I'm new and don't know much about handguns (so far I only have a 12 gauge and 2 rifles). This potentially has saved my hand. Thanks again.

Before long you will have paid more for the ammo you have fired than you will have paid for the handgun. You might as well shoot that expensive ammo out of a better revolver. Whatever you get, good luck to you and enjoy your revolver. Stay safe.🙂

Its not a reason not to buy a .38. You almost have to intentionally do it to place your hand there. Its a very unnatural hand position..people have been using revolvers for years and you dont hear about man fingers blown off from cylinder leak do you? Just dont cover the cylinder with your hand and youll be fine.

EDIT: Actually, maybe it wasn’t the 88 on that tank. I think maybe only the Tigers mounted an 88 except for tanks modified to become tank killers. I think the JagdPanther may have mounted an 88.
Yeah the IV has a nice 75mm. If it was a long-barrel, it was very high velocity, especially compared to other 75's of the time. Good story man!

That's why the 357 magnum exists. Far more manageable and less likely to overpenetrate.
With practice you could probably do it. I'm a woman and I am comfortable with 44 mags(not short light ones). I'll admit that I won't shoot one for hours at a time as I do with 22LR or 38 special. When alone in bear and mountain lion country I am happy to have a 44 mag with me.

*The gun that shoots in all directions*
i've always liked revolvers and my first duty weapon was a revolver with two speed loaders. I shot it for years and never had any problems. It was always considered one of the best guns for battle because a person couldn't screw things up by being nervous. You can press the revolver into someone and it will still shoot unlike semi autos that fail to cycle. Many of us used them as back up guns. Interesting video. Thanks

Edit: HOLY CRAP
I'm not what I'd call knowledgeable on firearms other than having hunted moose and caribou with a bolt-action 30-06 or an 8mm Lebel around Lake Susitna, Alaska many decades ago. I was aware that revolvers could spit some quantity of stuff sideways, and to keep your body parts out of the way. But now that I've given away my hunting gear to younger folk, and my gun ownership is down to just a little 5-shot .38 Special revolver for personal protection, I very much appreciate this dramatic demonstration! Thank you, Sir!
