Atmospheric / Linear PERSPECTIVE - Three dimensional DEPTH in your PAINTING with colour/tonal value!

- Today I will be giving a demonstration on how to achieving distance and depth in a painting, with the use of aerial (atmospheric) and linear perspective. This will be done by manipulating the colours and tonal values, to achieve a three dimensional illusion of distance and space on a two dimensional surface!
I will be using oil paint, palette knifes and working on a clear primed - stretched Belgian linen. Recently I've been working on white primed canvas and it is a sheer joy to go back to the raw colour of Belgian linen.
My reference for this demonstration comes from the opal mining town of Coober Pedy in outback South Australia, which is the largest supplier of opals in the world today. I'm working in the Breakaway Country (Kanku to the traditional custodians), which is a beautiful and richly coloured landscape with arid flat topped mountains and vast distances, making it the perfect subject for this tutorial.

Brilliant, my favourite painting to date, thank pete
Not only a lovely painting, but a great lesson on distance and perspective.
You're amazing, sir! I mean, fantastic artist! I love your work. You could be the university professor. Brilliant painting! Greetings from the EU!
Really love your work Richard and your palet knife technique is super good, lots of years of experience, I'll bet. Your painting are always so fresh and bright, due to colour and technique. Keep up the great work, really superbas are your outback videos. I too use palet knives on top of a light brush technique and feel you are so brave to have the monster size barby knife, you have, love it.
Love this one Richard, one of my favourites . Thanks for sharing your wonderful gift.
Richard jest super mistrz! 👍🤗💞🥰🤩
Magnificent! And a brilliant lesson in how to achieve atmospheric perspective. Thank you very much, Richard.
Love your work but the clips of the land that inspires you is amazing. God is the Master Artist. Love it!

Richard, the amazing divine atmosphere! The music is filled with angel sounds!.. 🎶 😇 🥰
What a beautiful subject! It looked great whilst you were busy but once you zoomed in it was incredible! The colours, the slightly geometric marks - it’s fabulous. Thank you Richard for giving us so much pleasure 😊 Jill, UK
You do it again! Beautiful colors, the way you see live around you it’s simply... amazing!! Thanks for all the explanations not only when mixing the oil but why you do it. It’s so worth it. Muchas gracias, me encantan tus cuadros. Ya estoy deseando ver más!
What a joy to learn from you!

Belgian linen in your hands comes out wonderfully. Just a good color.
Can only agree with all of the comments written before I watched you produce such a wonderful work. A privilege to watch and learn from you. Again.
As an abstract artist this is one of my favorites 😄 but I always love watching you paint, and your adventures in the bush
Absolutely beautiful 🌷
Absolutely stunning. I too love the big vista. This is so well done Richard and you went to great depths to explain your methodology as you went along. Invaluable resource. Thank you again.
