THE TIPS ARE AWESOME!!!
Sweet man I do have 2 of them and did not know that. thanks brother.
Just watch the heat on the handle with hooking a grill to it, I have melted a couple in my time. Best to make a heat shield out of tin foil then there are no worries...Nice tips for the un-knowing.

When I was driving truck I would keep a Mr. Buddy with me on the truck just in case I broke down and it was cold outside. and I would keep a case of Sterno fuel and some fire bricks as well. My biggest backup plan was a Tent, Fishing pole and axe and Knife. Just in case I slid off the road and had to abandon my truck All these things came in handy. Only had to use it once for those scenarios, but once, made it worth it. That sterno fuel, You can dip a stick into the gel and use that as a fire starter make it last longer for you.
Great tip!
Does the sterno fuel have a strong smell ??

This is why I enjoy RUclips. People like you, who enjoy helping others out. Thankyou and peace.
I did not know there was such a thing as a shoulder bag for those. Great companion to have for greater portability. And won’t give away the rest of the stuff I did not know about these heaters. You did a great job putting this video together as I never realised how much creative communication goes into the final release of a video.
The transfer of knowledge on RUclips never ceases to amaze me. I bought the small mr buddy heater for my ice fishing shanty. It is amazing! Recently, I have been using it in my garage so the wife and I can comfortably hang out with our half grown chickens. Thank you for these tips, that heat powered fan will definitely be on my to buy list.
We have had this heater for years. Had NO idea it could be used that way! Great tips!! Thank you.
You're welcome!
Me too.
I especially like the paint tray & the fan & or heating for the water for cooking but it also puts a bit of moisture into the room as opposed to just the heater dying the air too much
Thanks for sharing these great tips, and for all you do for the prepping community. My wife and I love your channel, keep bringing the videos.
You're welcome! Thank you, appreciate that!
Thanks so much for your video. Aside from purchasing a kerosene space heater, I have no other "heating" preps. So I just purchased the Mr. Buddy, the fan, the painter's tray and the carrying bag! This gives me a little more peace of mind.
Heres a tip for you get a silicone pot holder cut a couple of little squares out of it and put that between the handle and the cooking tray to keep your handle protected from melting.
I bought 2 of them for $87 a piece last year. Yesterday I saw at Walmart they were $74 .not a bad price.
I bought one at Walmart too
$59 Costco!
I have 3of these fans on my wood stove …the latest one even oscillates about 45 degrees
@@RiversideHomesteadLife excellent price.
I had to pay £150 for mine as I stay in Scotland 🏴
As an ice fisherman in the midwest, I've been using Mr. buddy heater systems for close to 20 years. Thought I knew everything that could be done with them. Done the cooking rack, the 20lb tank, used the top of my shack to hang wet gear above the heater to dry. But there are really cold days that make me bring out the big buddy with the built-in fan. Knew of the existence of heat generated fans for wood burners but never put 2 and 2 together. Also, I didn't know you could get them so cheap. So thank you for showing me something new, sir.
For the fan, I did the hack where you take a Dremmel and just cut slot in the vertical part of the fan, just above the base, and you can slide it right into the built-in grill (I show it toward the end of my cargo trailer tour video). And, you're right, it moves some serious air, even in our 6x10 trailer.
Great video and really good ideas. Only comment is that paint tray is stainless steel coated in zinc. Heating zinc can create zinc oxide and cause flu like symptoms (or worse in large amounts). I’m going to do this but us a camping grill (all stainless) instead. Thanks for taking the time to post. Just subscribed.
welcome!
Haha zinc hotdogs. This guy is trying to get someone hospitalized.
turn the heater on high outdoors for a few hours the coating will burn off. IMO
I have had one for 4-5 years. It has helped out on many occasions. I usually only use it for emergency situations but thanks for the extra hints.
you bet!
Knew about these heaters for the blind or ice shanty, but had no idea they could be used this way. I like your delivery. Thinking about a Big Buddy for when working in the garage. You’ve earned a new sub!
Picked up a few of these a few months back - so glad I did because my apt did not have heat on XMAS eve for most of the day, AND it was the coldest day of the year where I live. Excite to have these tips to use just in case!
What the world needs is more video's like this! Thanks for sharing these great ideas, they'll be useful! Enjoyed watching. Stay safe, stay prepared!
People need to read all the comments and he should have updated these tips since he wrote this article a month ago..
That paint tray he recommends is made of stainless steel coated with zinc which is toxic as is Galvanized Steel..
They recommend getting a camping Grill which is made of stainless steel only and safe..
If you use the tray wrap the handle of the heater with tin foil cuz it will melt..
Use fire resistant stove gloves because the grill and fan get very hot.
And people always have two windows cracked one to two inches open because you need fresh air no matter what kind of heat you're using
Genius! My Ming is blown. Have had a little buddy for years used for camping and never thought about using it for cooking. The fan is also incredibly cool as well.
Awesome. Saw the buddy heater on your video. I got one for my parents and one for our house. Now I will get the fans & grates for each of us. Awesome tip thanks.
Omg! I just bought a Mr. Buddy heater! This is so great! I’m going to get the paint attachment tomorrow for sure👍. I’m never disappointed taking time to watch your channel!

That is awesome! Thank you kindly Karen, I appreciate that!
I made amazing meals for my boyfriend and I when we lived in a tent in the woods for two years. Mr. Buddy saved our lives.
Sweet - thank you!
I knew of the first couple of cooking/boiling options but so loved the fan option. I just ordered 2. One for my buddy heater, and one for my back-up barrel stove for my workshop.

We purchased three of the big buddy Mr Heaters that have the built in fan. They have came in handy more than once during the cold season. I truly recommend this heater. Money well spent.
Hello. How many cylinders did you use and how long can you store them. I need one for emergencies only.
Oh yeah, I have one in my 8x16 tiny house and this winter is good. I don't have to spend extra to stay warm. Mr Buddy is a very good product. Thanks so much for sharing.
I own a Mr heater and they are one of the best small heater , I have ever seen or owned. Thanks for the tips about heating water and cooking methods . That is really smart !!
🙌🏽
One of the commenters said that that paint tray is made of stainless steel coated with sink and that it is toxic and so is Galvanized Steel...
They said to use a camping Grill because it's made out of stainless steel only and safe
I didn't know any of these tricks. Thank you for showing us this. I love the fan idea. I didn't know that even existed. I am learning so much from you. You were the first one that I ever herd about the JASE medical kit as well. Thank you for all you do. I am soaking up all the information you provide like a sponge.
Great!
I live in Montana in a fifth wheel, my furnace stopped working as soon as it got cold lol I have 3 of these heaters, only needed 1 to keep a 34 foot 5th wheel hot! Now I know I can use them for more! Awesome video
Glad to help!
That's very useful stuff! I've had that heater for a couple of years and never thought to do anything like that. The fan thing is probably the most useful in ordinary situations.
Of course another important thing is to get the hose, regulator and possibly filter for the 15 pound grill tanks. On the mid or high settings especially, this heater will tear through the one pound cylinders in no time.
You are quickly becoming my favorite channel! I love that you do totally different stuff!
Thank you! I appreciate that
Omg…..this is awesome!! I’d never of figured this out. I love the fan! Must have fan here in Michigan to spread the heat!! Thank you!!♥️♥️♥️

Thank You!! Lived in an old farm house with pellet stove as only source of heat, ran electric fan for this purpose, wish I would have known about these then!! Getting one now to use for emergencies and camping!! Blessings!
Being that I'm in Nevada, this video was both alarming and so helpful. I need to get two of these. One for me and my 76 year old friend. Thank you for this valuable knowledge. ❤️
You're welcome! Glad it was helpful! Thank you!
Thanks from all of us
In the Winter with power down, I use my "WOODSTOVE" to heat and cook. Firewood is much cheaper than propane and I stock enough in the Spring to season and last ALL WINTER. The Mr. Heater "Buddy" warms the front room till I get the woodstove going. I also have the dual fan set-up.
It is good that you are letting others know these tricks. Good video . . .
👍
I started prepping earlier this year and have been slowly trying to add what I can to my stockpile of supplies. I saw this heater come in at a second hand store and just had to pick it up. This video you've made is so cool! I feel even more prepared with the knowledge you've just given me.
awesome
Buddy series heaters are time tested by outdoorsman/ survivalists, and safe for indoor use.
Internal operating temps are over 500 degrees,so keep on floor away from combustible objects, like bedding/ furniture/ drapes/ etc.
Never bring a White #20 outdoor grill propane tank, inside any dwelling.
Run a 10 foot Buddy hose from that tank, indoors through a cracked open window or door. That allows additional oxygen intake for heater while running.Or,use indoors with 1 or 2 green 1# camping propane tanks. The small green tanks can be refilled from a white 20# grill tanks,RUclips is full of how to videos. All you need is a $10 refill valve, from Walmart or Amazon. Also,a digital postal type scale,to prevent over filling.
These heaters have been used for millions of hours, for years, inside RVs / ice fishing shanty's/ homes/ apartments/ travel trailers/ etc etc.
Always good to use Carbon Monoxide detectors+ smoke detectors, when running any portable heaters.
@@bcole3442 Thanks for adding to this great info! Do you also have safety tips for using these heaters when tent camping?
@Repent and believe in Jesus Christ Jesus Christ isn't real

You are so Right I just bought one in December and the fan. Great Tip👍🏽
Thank you. I didn't know this info and now thanks to you I do. I use my Mr. Buddy alot in the winter in my shop.
That’s just awesome! We just bought two Mr. Buddy Heaters. We are going shopping tomorrow for the accessories that you suggested. So awesome
You're welcome!
I got one of these heaters and got an adapter and regulator that lets me use a grill-size propane tank with it. Works great!
The Mr Heater has a regulator built into it.. go read their website..
With the Mr Heater you do need to get a fuel filter otherwise it will clog at all up because regular propane is dirty .. the green bottles are pure so you don't really need it with them but it's way too expensive to use them they only last 5 hours if you're lucky ..and you have to get Mr heater hoses only because they don't have the oil in them that will clog it up..
That paint tray he recommends is stainless steel coated with zinc which is toxic as is Galvanized Steel..
The commenters recommend using a camping Grill which is made of stainless steel unsafe..
Always have two windows cracked open one to two inches with any heat that you have..
You need fresh air no matter what anybody says how safe it is..
And use fire resistant stove gloves because that tray and fan get really hot..
If you use the tray, wrap that handle on the heater with tin foil because the handle will melt
This is awesome! Bought one last year and it's pretty magical. These tips take it over the top! Gonna link for the fan. Thanks!

These are great tips. We've been using the Big Buddy for years , but didn't know about these great tips. Thanks. We just ordered two of the fans and already had new paint screens for some painting we hadn't started yet. Now, we'll use them for this instead. Thanks. This is fantastic info!!!

AWSOME
I've been heating my rv's that I live in for years with Buddy heaters. Never heard about any of your tips before. Thanks for the information. I'm getting one of those fans asap!
Glad to help! Thanks Jerry!
You gave the best heater flow with the painters rack for more stability excellent job, thanks for the demo.
I bought a Big Buddy heater about 10 years ago as a back-up heat source when we have Ice Storms in Oklahoma which can leave us without power for as long as 2 weeks. Have found it to be the best bad winter prep tool only second to a 15 Kilowatt duel fuel generator. In fact, the Big Buddy frees-up power from the genny. EXCELLENT purchase and I have recommended it to EVERYONE !
I've been watching a lot of your content. I purchased a Big Buddy 3 weeks ago. Have 8 1lb tanks. Bought a 12" hose with regulator that I'm picking up in the morning along with a 20lb. propane tank. I'll be prepared for the Blizzard here in Northwest Indiana. Thank you for the education you share!!!
Glad to hear! Thank you K S for your comments, very encouraging!
One thing I learned is to use only the Mr buddy hose or it will gunk up the inside and clog up the intake. There is some oily substance in hoses , but lacking in their r specific hoses.

Love my Mr.Buddy Heater and Love the Video didn't even think about the upgraded stability of a paint roller tray.... Genius
🙌🏽
Bought a big buddy heater a few years ago for sitting in the shed in winter time to have nice toasty spot to smoke cigars. Our furnace/ac caught fire in June this year. Insurance didn’t want to cover it because it was to old. So we don’t have ac/heat. I’m so glad I gave my big buddy heater. It’s helped heat our house. Currently it’s -17F outside and still nice and toasty thanks to big buddy.
Thank you for sharing these tips and such. Also, I'm now a subscriber because you share HOW to do things and share what you know with others, instead of keeping it to yourself. Over 2 years ago, I bought 2 Mr. Buddy heaters. I didn't think I would have to use them so quickly! In that emergency, I was thankful I had an alternative heat source. I admit that I didn't learn HOW to use them UNTIL I needed them! So, I was stressed when I tried to use them in that moment!
I used these heaters last winter when unexpectantly, my oil tank failed. Thank God I also prepped propane canisters too, because it took over 2 weeks to have a new oil tank installed and oil delivered! These two heaters helped to supplement heat in my home, along with other electric heaters. My electric bill was much higher too during that month.
The Mr. Buddy heaters HELP, but don't expect them to heat a HOUSE! And from my experience, when I had to use them, the propane cylinders only lasted at a max of 4 hours. So, if you're expecting someone to be home when the cylinder runs out, then okay, as long as you have enough propane cylinders to replace and continue giving heat. Also, the Mr. Buddy heaters are not meant to be substitute for a furnace or some thing. Only for a short time! That's my experience.
I did NOT know how easily one could pop off the grill cover or attach simply a paint tray and potentially use it for cooking too! Maybe some others knew this but thank YOU for sharing this!
I have some propane canisters still in my preps, but now, I'll add more, while the prices are still affordable for me, and the propane is available.
Some people keep their knowledge of some things to themselves, for selfish reasons. Those that do, may find themselves without help when THEY NEED something, as no one person knows everything!
Check the videos on how to refill your canisters, and you'll save even more.
Use a 20 lb propane tank at least and you'll save a whole lot of money those little canisters are kind of worthless and too expensive..
Make sure you get a fuel filter when you use that bigger tank..
Some of the commenters are saying that that paint tray is made of stainless steel coated with zinc and that it's toxic.. as is galvanized steel
. They say to get a camping grill which is made only of stainless steel and safe.. and always have a window or two cracked a couple of inches when you're using any kind of stove
And use fire resistant stove gloves because that fan and Grill get very hot..
And to cover the handle of the stove with tin foil because that Grill is going to get really hot and it can melt the handle

Just bought the bigger Mr. Heater after owning the little buddy heater for emergencies. I love both of them because they work well for my purposes. The costco deal was amazing on these! $60 for the heater with a bonus hose to use on a big tank ( $22 just for the hose at walmart) and a fuel filter. I was there Monday and it looked like the price went back up to $75ish. But it was originally $90 ( most places charge $90 without the add ons)
I got my hose for connecting to a 20 lb tank from Tractor Supply, and they were actually the cheapest I'd seen anywhere. I paid like $16 for it

Just got the big buddy heater and glad to see these tips will definitely use them thanks
We have used the Buddy heater for years. We dry camp in the mountains for six weeks a year during bow season. My comment is if you get a fan, make sure its a big one like you show or bigger because we bought a few much smaller ones advertising how well they worked and they were worthless, even in the RV. We got smart and got the bigger one like yours and it works just fine. Running the Buddy inside the RV has never been a problem. Thanks for the tips. On my way to Lowes to get the stronger grill!
Doesn't the paint tray heat up and melt the Big Buddy handle? Anyone? What size grid, for 1 gallon paint bucket or 5 gallon paint bucket?
@@judithmiller7308 It definitely would over time . The plastic they used is total garbage and the double burner one are terrible. Their customer service is also absolutely atrocious .

@@judithmiller7308 one of the commenters said to wrap the handle in tin foil because it can melt..
Always keep a window or two open when using any kind of heat..
That painting tray he recommends is made of stainless steel which is coated with zinc which is toxic.. so is Galvanized toxic..
They suggested to buy a camping Grill which is made only of stainless steel which is safe..
Also use fire resistant stove gloves because that Grill and fan get really hot
Just got a fan for my Little Buddy that actually is made for it. It clips on the top-front grill. At Amazon for $25. Works like a charm. My only heat source for my cabin.

The commenters recommend a camping Grill which is made only of stainless steel and safe..
And to wrap the handle with tin foil if you use a tray because it will melt..
And to use fire resistant gloves because that tray and fan get very hot..
And people always crack two windows open one to two inches for fresh air with whatever heat you use no matter what anyone says
Thanks for all the links, very helpful.
Wow! Cool information I have 2 Mr. Heater did’t know about this! Thanks
Great!
We got Mr. Buddy heater for our son for his bday, and then got one last week for us. Stocked up on cannisters too. Many thanks for helping us get prepared. We live in hurricane prone section of the east coast.
Which buddy did you buy and where did you get it?
@@carolynfrench-witham769 I got mine on line at walmart and they delivered right to the house. It's cheaper now, 74 dollars I think. When I got my son's it was 85.
You're welcome! Thank you for sharing Pam!
you can get an adaptor and refill your small tanks from a larger tank
@@nancywolf3786 you don't need to refill small tanks with that adapter. The adaptor is so you can hook up a larger propane tank.
Thank you for the info! 👍 Just placed my order for those 2 lovely additions.
Thanks for this post. That is so cool, I didn't know you could do that. I have a Mr.Buddy heater, too.
Thank you for the tips!! These are such good ideas! I have two buddies. We use all the time in the winter! My brother has put new igniter in one and is going to do the other one too. They were worn out!
I have one in storage because of an igniter issue. As soon as I can I'm going to replace it. Before I bought its replacement I lit it with a miniature torch lighter.
Great tips. I bought the hot air fan. I’m going to try the hot water kettle idea. I already have the camping pot.
I am not one to leave messages but your video compelled me to leave a comment. I have to say this is a great video and each of the recommendations are excellent. It is short and informative with the links to follow-up which many prepping videos are not these days.
My wife are partners and is not one to support my prepping efforts. She is not going to watch a 30 + minute video. Given the short duration and practical information provided many of the items you showed are ordered for us. I have to say my priorities are water (catchment, storage, treatment & filtration), food, power (solar) and I would love to have this kind of video to support these priorities as convincing and sound as you have provided in this video. I unfortunately am handicapped so I really need to clearly have simple, available and practical solutions. Thanks again!
I'm sold! Thank you so much. Awesome! Life saver. I'll be warm, eating can soup drinking and drinking hot chocolate!
We have that fan for our wood stove. I’ll have to remember to use it on our Buddy Heater. I bought my son a My Buddy heater and a few canisters of propane last year for Christmas
👍
I am so happy I have subscribed to your channel , always awsome information , thank you and God Bless .
You're welcome! Thank you Holly!
I have a couple of these for emergency heat and I appreciate the great tips! I love being able to boil water when I’m already running the unit for heat. I’ll definitely pick up the paint tray and blower you recommend. Very handy!! Thank you!
Read the comment above about the paint tray giving off fumes from the zinc coating.

I'm originally from Canada currently living in California ☀️☀️and you where are you from if i may ask?💭
Bought mine over a year ago. Finally using it tonight in my 1 bedroom apt. It's -38 c outside and the power has been off for 2 or 3 hours. I'm still sitting in my shorts. I have the Little Buddy set on Low. Amazing.
Love the heat fan idea. Will order one tonight for next opportunity.
Great video👍👍
Thanks Zeke!
Hello. How many cylinders did you use and how long can you store them. I need one for emergencies only.
I really didn't know about that one. I really like the heat fan. Thank you so much.
You're welcome!
Excellent. Didn't even know there was such a thing as a heat-powered fan.
🙌🏽👍
I bought my Mr Buddy heater as a backup in case of power outage. It is still in the box as I have not needed it. But I do continue to buy the propane I need. Thank you for this video. I have put the fan in my cart on Amazon so now I am really ready.
Give it a quick test make sure it’s good to go 👍
Ty so much for this! I just got a buddy that I'll be using in my van! I also had just got a mini camp stove but I love this 2 birds one stone method much better!
Heating the water uses the heat twice because the water/steam helps heat the room as well. Appreciate the tips.
Good point
The paint tray he recommends is stainless steel coated with zinc which is toxic as is Galvanized Steel..
It's recommended to get a camping Grill which is made only a stainless steel and safe..
You need a fuel filter if you're using anything other than the 1 lb green bottles cuz otherwise it's dirty fuel and will gum up the heater..
If you use the tray, wrap the handle in tin foil otherwise it can melt
If you use the tray use fire resistance stove gloves because the tray and fan will get very hot
Always crack 2 of your windows one to two inches open no matter what kind of heat you use you need fresh air
We use these heaters a lot and it is possible to connect a 5 gallon tank with a hose adapter and filter from many hardware stores. The filter is very important as it keeps the pilot light from clogging up so the heater will last many years. I like the paint tray and fan idea.
Is there a filter on these that needs to be changed or cleaned periodically?
@@sparkyplug788 You have to buy the filter separately. They're mostly recommended for the larger grill cylinders.
Yeah I just heard of this filter been using 20 and 45 lb tanks with my 2 buddies heating a whole house....never had an issue. Christ when I started using these ten years ago they said don't use it indoors 🙄
Great tips..Thank you! I never knew that about the Mr Buddy heater..
Wow! This is AWESOME thanks so much - I was always wanting the heat to go somewhere other than up!!
Thanks so much! Short and to the point.
You bet!
Thanks so much for sharing these tips. I’ve been a Subscriber for over a year and your tips have been great in helping me prep. Discovered the Mr. Buddy heater this past summer. All electric house. Got caught in the 2021 Texas freeze with no power for 4 days; brutal. Haven’t tried the heater yet, but going to order the fan and pick up the paint tray tomorrow. I really appreciate all that you do. God bless you!❤
You're welcome!
What!!!!! I have one of those. I was given it when we had the icepocolyse here in Texas. Love the bag and fact you can cook on it. Love the tips. Thanks!
Great information and really useful thank you for posting. Even though I live in Florida now, I can still use one of those heating units it does get chilly here some days.
You're welcome!
I've had a Mr. Heater Big Buddy for about five months now and very happy with it. It gets the job done and is very easy to use. I also invested in four of the Flame King DOT certified 1lb refillable propane cylinders and gotta tell you that's the way to go if you use your heater more than a few times a season. These heaters do use lots of propane.
Thanks!
You can buy a hose and use the 20 pound tank off your grill ..!
@@Hammertime530 I actually like the tank and hose option best. The small 1lb are more portable for some applications say ice fishing, but they are messy to fill because the bleed screw releases propane during the fill so there's the smell always present. Another reason I prefer the tank and hose.
Thanks for your response as it is appreciated. Happy holidays to you.
