Chris Stuckmann reviews Spider-Man, starring Tobey Maguire, James Franco, Willem Dafoe, Kirsten Dunst, Rosemary Harris, Cliff Robertson, J.K. Simmons. Directed by Sam Raimi.
The first time my dad saw the trailer for this and saw the CGI Spider-Man swinging through the city, he got so emotional lol he still says that this is his favorite movie.
It's my favorite movie. as well.
That wasn’t cgi
SantaOMG some of it was
SantaOMG Hahah You wish
I like Spider-Man 2 More but this is still good
If it wasn't for Sam Raimi's Spider-Man trilogy, we wouldn't have all the elements that make the Marvel Cinematic Universe work as well as it does.
agree.
Exactly. Raimi's trilogy set the groundwork for all Marvel films that later came out.
(X-Men was good but the influence from Raimi's films is far greater. It was the biggest inspiration for Jon Favreau's Iron Man movies and set the tone for the MCU.)
Preach!
+Marc Indeed !!!!!
Don't forget singer, those guys revived the superhero genre in the movies
I also like the fact they filmed peter Parker’s life before he received his powers, when he was the underdog. So, by the time his got his his powers, you were rooting for him because of your emotional connection to the character.
I actually believe that the colors in the thanksgiving scene ARE significant and accentuate the movie's theme of conflict through contrasting, IMO:
Peter directly opposes the green goblin (so he wears his colors)
The green goblin directly opposes (so he wears his colors)
Harry is arguably conflicted about which side he is on so he wears both colors (and this character arch persists through the entire trilogy).
And MJ wears black, because Harry was like "why didn't you wear the black dress" earlier in the movie. She's still living for the men in her life rather than being herself
Great review Chris! Never noticed the choice of attire in that dinner scene before.
Hey, Suspect.
+The Unusual Suspect Hello Suspect. :) Quick question, will you do Star Wars Episode 2 anytime soon? Thanks, i love your reviews :)
yeah HEY! im one of ur subs ;)
+The Unusual Suspect Me neither. Ah, I love discovering new little bits of info in the entertainment I love. Also, looking forward to your TASM2 review, man!!!
I'm geeking out right now!!!! I love your videos!!!!!!
Harry Osborne, in his trilogy especially, is probably my favorite secondary character of all time. A beautifully tragic arc, with clear motivations of simply wanting the love/approval of his father. So well made, this movie.
This movie was my childhood! This movie is something that hits me on a very very emotional level... Thank you a lot for reviewing it. I LOVE THIS TRILOGY WITH MY HEART!!
+Kenshin Himura Boom! so true to me as well.
+Esteban Arias Even the 3rd one is fantastic if you cut out the stupid dance scenes lol
+Kenshin Himura I was also 9 when I watched this in cinema and is to this day one of my favourite movies. :')
everyone hates the 3rd one for stupid reasons.
+Patricio Sepúlveda I was born in the year 2000 too my friend, Its been 16 years and I truly believe we are old enough for this movie to be something nostalgic for us. (Por cierto tu nombre es mexicano de casualidad?)
Your argument for the organic web shooters has been mine for years! If he gets bit by a radioactive spider, why wouldn't he be able to shoot his own web? It makes total sense. If not, he only really has Spider Sense, increases strength, and the body change. It's not too Spidery, lol.
I agree how did he think that he has spider powers without webs? Without it he is more like bug guy
Haha your friendly neighborhood Bug-Man!
And the ability to climb wall's.
UnitasGaming I love the organic wrist webs. But holy crap I just died laughing picturing a Spider-Man that shoots webs from his butt. Oh my god.
But Peter Parker is supposed to be a genius and when he makes the web it shows that
This was pretty much my Star Wars
I get this. I love the Star Wars OT now but I hadn't experienced it as a kid. The amount of nostalgia people say they have towards Star Wars is how I view Spider-Man 1/2. These films defined my childhood, there's just so much nostalgia. Plus they're great films even now too.
EDIT: Actually, Spider-Man and Star Wars are pretty similar in reception. The first film in the trilogy was amazing, the second film is considered the best in the saga, and the third film was a good film but a little disappointing in a few areas. TASM/TASM2 is arguably Spider-Man's version of the prequels, and I'm guessing the next rendition is a Spider-Man fan's TFA?
+Infinitify ive seen these movies so many times since they came out that I dont even think of them like nostalgia anymore. There simply just great fucking movies that Ive loved all my life.
Same
+John Dudst. good on ya both ur comments above cause we share that nostalgia of good classic comic book movies of our day as well Chris for doing this vid.ah The Times where do they go?
Hell yeah. I still watch Spider-Man and Spider-Man 2 to this day and get feelings of nostalgia. They also introduced me to both directing films (which is a new thing, when your 4-5 years old) and the evil dead films, which are all great.
Green Goblin was such a great villain, 1 thing I love is how smart and clever he was, he was able to piece together that Peter was Spider-Man all by seeing the cut on Peter’s arm during the dinner scene that he got from his arm blade in the burning building scene, he put 2 and 2 together and thus figured out he needed to attack Aunt May to hurt Spider-Man, I really admire how smart he was in this movie
Spider-Man: I really love it! Gives me so much nostalgia every time I rewatch it!
Spider-Man 2: I F%cking adore Spider-Man 2! Almost Everything about this movie is fantastic!
Spider-Man 3: I actually like it! Yeah, I said it! I like Spider-Man 3! I guess it is a guilty pleasure of mine!
The Amazing Spider-Man: I think it's okay! Not amazing, not horrible either! For was it is, it is a decent film!
The "Amazing" Spider-Man 2: I'd rather watch Batman and Robin than this! Okay that may be a little over blowing it a bit but still, I hate this movie!
I agree.
Disagree
I don’t Iike Spider-Man 3
I only "like" The Amazing Spider-Man 2 because of the amazing web swinging scenes...
Yeah agreed
I just rewatched Spiderman 1 and 2 and this is still my favorite superhero franchise to date.
Skeleton Rider not Spider-man 3?
Spider-Man 3 is also the best
@@V_For_Vigilante I would say Spider man 3 is better than 1 and 2. THIS IS MY OPINION!!!!
Spider-man 3 was also good
@@V_For_Vigilante Didn’t you say that Spider Man 3 is one of your least favorite comic book movies? Like, in your top 10
Kirsten Dunst looked so awesome in SM1
Jo$h I agree

'Is this the best movie ever?' - cinemasins -
Exactly.
She looks awesome in everything she's in.
Just rewatched the movie. This is a top superhero movie that doesn't get the credit it deserves. Action, fun, emotion & Spiderman! Spiderman is my favorite hero and this is one of my favorite movies now. 9/10
Hell yea Jordan!
I like your name btw- like MJ!

That would be awesome their is not really any good rewievs on those movies on youtube
Hoodo! Holy shit i can't believe i found you here im a big fan! :)
+HoodoHoodlumsRevenge He announced that he is going to do that..
This movie still has so much on Spider-Man homecoming. The music is great. The cast is perfect. And it almost feels like it’s right out of the comic book.
Just rewatched it last night and that’s exactly the thing I thought. Like even with the story, however it’s shot just makes it seem like you’re watching a comic book just play out on screen
its good but i got a lot of issues with it
green goblins suit sucks
fights suck
cgi sucks even for its time
pete and mjs relationship is horrible
like mj herself is a horrible character
tobey was a pretty bad actor in the first film
except all this, its a good film
@@anirudhgupta2570 yeah nah dude
Just saw Civil War...and Tobey is still my favorite spider-man FTW!!!!!!
Civil war is trash
Fearless loner
Civil War is not trash you douche!
@@mmafyasco Don't go to Sarajevo.
@@V_For_Vigilante your opinion is your opinion but Civil War aint trash bruh
Tobey will always be my fave Spider Man- but Spidey's Civil War entrance was AWESOME! It went downhill after that probly due to super hype and pressure
Willem Dafoe's mirror scene is so underrated.
Dude any movie is automatically improved if Willem Defoe can chew some damn scenery.
@@thedeepfriar745 yeah i swear i don't know how,but him and Scorsese actually made a movie about Christ interesting.
And now he had a masterful performance in No Way Home
@@SoccerVJ2011 it was awesome.
Well he appeared in the no way home
This movie is my childhood.
Just rewatched it and it still holds up. Great characters and direction.
Maguire > Holland.
I'm gonna watch 2 again tomorrow.
@Melon Sauce Tobey is better at both
I'm so glad you mentioned the final fight scene and how raw it is, it always seems to go unmentioned
WhoDidYouSay I find it more violent and scary then the Andrew Garfield fighting scenes in The Amazing Spider-Man 1 and 2 so people need to get a grip Sam Raimi films felt scary
I have never seen Marvel replicate this level of violence in the MCU. This felt real like u can feel Tobey's life is on danger.
The Sam Raimi Spiderman films are like old wine.......it gets better and better with each time viewing and it stands out to the test of time unlike Marc Webb's god awful version.
Sam Raimi >>>>>>>>>>> Marc Webb
Hell,
1:29 - 1:44 >>>>>>>>>>> Marc Webb
+Capt. Steve Rogers™ Personally, I like the Marc Webb movies
Ben Nixon and i totally respect your opinion......it's all subjective
Lol nice 👍🏻
definitely does not get better with each viewing the first raimi film as aged absolutely horrendously. it was a great movie for its time but by todays marvel movie standards its like thor. its just okay. it was really quite amazing how they made spider man work on film back then but now especially with tom hollands perfect performance of spider man and perfect comic to film adaptation, maguiers spidey cant even kiss hollands ass. its too perfect and maguire mite taint it. plus sony just didnt quite get it right. now that spider man is home it makes it so much sweeter and makes the old sony films feel just not right. like a mother sold her kid to a stranger because she needed money and the stranger raised it and that was the Sony spider man movies while now with spider man at home if Spider-Man Homecoming is half as good as tom hollands Spider-Man portrayal than spider man homecoming will absolutely blow any spider man film into oblivion. anyone who doesnt like hollands spidey clearly doesnt like the real spider man considering hes the absolute perfect representation of classic spider man. besides some mior suit tweaks that are a much much MUCH needed addition to the suit no one else could possibly ever try to adapt spider man more perfectly and that in itself really pulls down all 3 raimi films alot. good that you like the original spider man trilogy but i definitely think its nostalgia and not that they still hold up today because they aged absolutely horrendously
yeah great whatever....TOBEY MGUIRE IS STILL THE BEST
When people say Tobey Maguire is the best Peter Parker, while Andrew Garfield is the best Spiderman. I completely disagree Tobey Maguire is the best at both
it takes more than a few quips to be spider-Man.
Tobey's version was the best written and really fleshed out the character's most important fundamentals
Better than Amazing spider-man 2.
@@danielwood6833 You get it. A lot of today's Spider-Man fans have this idea that for Spider-Man movies to be considered good, they have to subvert every aspect of the character and his world, but this totally ignores the fact that most Spider-Man media in every form has kept the fundamentals relevant for decades, and still manage to be interesting and successful.
Andrew Garfield is dreadful at both
Tobey Maguire will always be Spider-Man in my mind
+610cheryl He IS Spider-Man.
Defenately!
Right with you dude!
+610cheryl I don't care what the naysayers say, but I will defend Tobey Maguire until I pass on to the other side!

(ITS A REFERENCE!!!!!)
Damn I thought that it was indeed not a reference. You almost fooled me
Spider-Man 2 is one of my favorite superhero movies. I think it hits all beats that a superhero movies should hit.
It's my favorite. It's a near perfect film.
+Stolen. Spiderman 2 Is easily the best superhero film ever made. (In my opinion)
Spider-Man 2 and The Avengers are the definition of fun superhero films.
+Stolen. Spider Man 2 wasn't as great as the original Spiderman movie
Why do you think so?
I can remember not being allowed to watch this movie. I was like 7 and the age rating here in the UK was 12. I was so pissed they wouldn't let me in, even with an adult present. Managed to watch it the week later as my dad got his hands on a pirated copy LOL.
I think film ratings should be more guidelines than rules. I've seen some 10 year olds and such with maturity and a film like this isn't too bad. Maybe 18 should have rules but just because some of the content is far, but even when I was 12 and stuff I would be able to understand. It should be up to the parents in my opinion.
When the first "Deadpool" movie premiered in Mexico, they had to change the rating from R to Pg - 13 because people complain they couldn't see the movie.
That sucks I got to see this movie in theaters when I was 3
there was a lot of controversy around that. luckily, i M few years older and got to see it, my brother did too, despite not being old enough, seeing as this film is what caused 12 to turn to 12a
Same bro i was 10 and i was so excited and got turned away
I was crying i think 😂

Ooooohhhhhhhh
Norman's suit: it may look like a power ranger, however the mix of sinister given from Willem Defoe makes the suit scarier than it really should be which is impressive from both Raimi and Defoe.
Willem pulled it off easily. The mouth on the suit ain't exactly as friendly as a power ranger nor are those eyes those horrible yellow eyes. The suit doesn't come across as silly by an means.
In my opinion.
Totally agree with you, Jack.
The look as well as hos vpice was so.menacing!
Toby was always my childhood hero. That dvd was literally ¼ of my life from the age of 3 to 8

I’m a Spider-Man fan and well I don’t think these movies are all that great. Mainly because to me peter is a bit too much of a geeky dorky for me. I wish they downplayed that a little hence why I personally prefer Garfield or Holland’s portrayals. Although Spider-Man 2 is the second best Spider-Man film to me. I just don’t feel this film holds up as much as when I was a kid.

Tobey > Garfield
Tobey is an excellent Peter Parker, but Andrew Garfield took the cake for Spider-Man in my opinion.

The best thing about Sam Raimi's spider-man is the he absolutely nailed the tone of the films. They are light hearted without being too goofy and over all really fun to watch. One of my main problem with most of the modern marvel films is that the jokes feel misplaced to me.
you refer to the hulk dick jokes? yeah I agree I hate most live action comedies that marvel does. I do really enjoy the winter solder though easily the best mcu movie
Yea i'm ok with physical comedy, it can be done really well but sometimes it just feels like cheap laughs. I don't hate the marvel movies I enjoy them but for sure winter soldier and guardians of the galaxy are the best. Both do a good job of finding a tone that works and sticking with it

Conner Tobey It's my opinion
I like this version of Spiderman, because it follows the comics; he’s not selfish, he’s just a guy that’s trying to do the right thing and just has bad luck that in essence is what Spiderman is
Sure if you never read tge comics but peter in the comics WAS selfish ,immature ,edgy and just wasnt the perfect person that tobey was and he just isn't the perfect peter that people said he is
The final fight in this movie is really underated
*R I F T IS G A Y* n. Yes it's fucking awesome and it was supposed to be even more brutal, but the CGI artists had to color most of the blood into spit to avoid getting an R rating. That's why from one shot to another the blood in Peter's face disappears and appears again.
''He wanted to be the Green Goblin.''
And that turned out so well that Kevin Feige considered him too good to be recast. That's just the highest praise you can get in the comic book world.

I’ve never gotten why people were so pissed about Spider-Man having organic webs, in the comics he’s had organic webs and web shooters so it really doesn’t matter
Which comic did he have organic webs
Elisha Wilson
Spectacular Spider-Man #15-16, he also had it whenever he wore the symbiote
@@benm5970 most comics he has web shooters though they're part of his character and show his intellect when he creates them but I get it though with the organic webs
I've read at one stage James Cameron was involved with this project and he was the one who suggested the organic web for this movie.
I think a nice middle ground solution would be to give him a web modifier. It would essentially be a justification for the more intricate spray patterns we see, such as the traditional spider web trap that Peter tries to use against Green Goblin in their final fight.
Spiderman (2002): A
Spiderman 2 (2004): A+
Spiderman 3 (2007): D
The Amazing Spiderman (2012): C+

+Syed Hoque Psh, as if. I go to high school right now, and trust me, nerds with the glasses and the awkwardness of tobey do exist.
That's what people think but real nerds are still awkward and shy. You can still have an Awkward character that doesn't fit in.
spiderman was my childhood
The actors born for their roles were: Dafoe as Goblin and JK Simons as J Jamesson.
RIP Cliff Robertson (Uncle Ben)
My God Stukmann, I have been watching your reviews recently because I have started producing my own comedy skits for the platform and I love comedy and comics and movies. You and Bree and Josh have really helped me realize how things for this platform should be do ne. THANK YOU. I look forward to joining you in this world.
I apologize for the misspelling STUCKMANN.
William and James were really good examples of casting people that could actually look like father and son.
A-? Come on, it should be A+
+mounir maged no! Spiderman 3 is the weakest film in the trilogy.
+mounir maged no
I'd give it an A. Not perfect. Pretty Damn Close.
Watched all three movies when they came out in theaters. The rest I watched on DVD. I saw Far Away From Home in a theater because my son wanted to see it. None of the not-Sam Raimi movies gave me the feels I got from watching his movies. I did see Into the Spider-Verse and it was good seeing a Spidey that was reminiscent of Tobey's and would love to see another Spider-Verse movie with him again.
Yes true ,the old movies have a great atmosphere

+Artist of Procedure he did'nt piss on it he just gave it a rating theres a difference
I LOVE GREEN GOBLIN'S SUIT, ITS LOOKS FREAKING AWESOME
finally... some agrees with me that Spiderman was awesome
This is my favorite movie ever. When it came out I was 10. Holy moly was in awe. I related to the characters and loved the adventure. Even so much I was able to get a piece of the Spider-Man suit from Spider-Man 2. Still one of my prized possessions lol.
That's awesome Olivia.
What part of the suit did u get?
Leonardo Braynen it was the top right shoulder piece!
@@livy_yikes thats soooo cool!
I bet its gonna worth alot someday.
There was actual clapping at the end of this movie in my theatre and not just by me.
Tobey = best Spider-Man and best Peter Parker
Andrew = stupid Spider-Man and bad Peter Parker
Tom same thing as Tobey
Joshua Rodriguez Andrew was also a douche as spiderman
Ayush Shah: spiderman was originally a douche before the death of his uncle in the comics, but that still doesn't justify making him unlikeable.
Daniel Sanchez yes he was a douche in the comics before Bens death, but Andrew was a douche after the death
what do you mean??Andrew was great,Tobey was great,Tom was great too,I like all spider man movies,I don't even want to compare them
Sylvia _life in your opinion
This was my Mom's second favorite superhero movie. Her first was SUPERMAN: THE MOVIE.
10/11/1964 - 06/30/2020
I’m sorry man.
AHHH imagine Spider-Man making a gay joke in 2017.
I’d laugh
Ban Spider-Man!! He must be stopped!!
@@seakermac it's funny cause its true
It would be hilarious seeing the snowflakes go nuts
JJJ : I TOLD YOU HE WAS A MENACE !
PARKER! YOU'RE FIRED!
2020! I still love these films because the character writing is so personal and so real!
I always forget about the skeleton thing! That’s really weird, maybe showing people dying in a fire high above the city thanks to a flying criminal wasn’t that great after 2001.
I remember when I first heard this was coming out, I was probably the most excited kid in my neighborhood. I went around the block and told my neighbors about it so excitedly, got a bunch of posters and put them up at my house, bought the soundtrack, and when I realized I couldn't see it opening day because of how crowded it was at the theater my heart broke and I cried my heart out!! I swear, this is when superhero movies were still few and far between each other and seeing them on the big screen was grand and epic. Not saying superhero films aren't still grand and epic but you don't get that experience of seeing your favorite superhero on the big screen like you do for the very first time, the 2002 Spider-Man may have its cheesy moments, but it will forever have a place in my heart. :')
I agree best casting for a movie easily.
I've got exams tommorow, I'm way behind on my work, I should be doing my work, fuck it, what's 14 minutes going to do...
EDIT: WORTH IT
Same story bro
Same here
+RandomGingerKing haha yeah mine start Monday
+RandomGingerKing they're mocks mate, you do shit, you learn what to do in future :)
Good luck.
Spiderman: 4/4
Spiderman 2: 4/4
Spiderman 3: 2.5/4
Amazing Spiderman: 2/4
Amazing Spiderman 2: 0/4
Spiderman 3 gets too much hate while amazing Spiderman 2 doesn't get enough
+jabba820 Agree with everything except for Amazing Spider-man 3/4
+jabba820 why out of 4?
+Flame of Udun its how the paper does it
don't make me laugh lol, amazing spiderman was better than spider man 3
I like the little one liners you do before the jump cuts, like “yeah better than that” ahhaha
The first Marvel movie to showcase the flipping pages Marvel logo.
Tobey Maguire said he had never read a Spider-Man comic book but took the role because he liked the script.
at around 22 mins) The scene in which Peter Parker catches Mary Jane's lunch on the tray involved no CGI. With the help of a sticky substance to keep the tray planted on his hand, eventually, after 156 takes, he performed the stunt exactly as seen.
Best Origin Story. I still prefer this over Spider-Man 2. Don't get me wrong, both are super fun. You feel the passion of Remi behind the scenes and the ideas.
Spider Man 1, where Peter Parker struggles with his powers, breaks ups with Mary Jane and battles a villain who kills himself. And Spider Man 2, where Peter Parker struggles with his powers, breaks up with Mary Jane and battles a villain who kills himself. And Spider Man 3, where Peter Parker struggles with his powers, breaks ups with Mary Jane and battles a super-villian who kills himself...WAIT....THEY MADE THE SAME MOVIE THREE TIMES IN A ROW?...
Sir Iron Duke someone saw Honest Trailers
Except in 2002, Peter was bitten by a GENETICALLY MODIFIED spider, not a radioactive one
