  • What starts out as a relatively cordial conversation turns extremely uncomfortable as Lt. Kaffee (Tom Cruise) and Lt. Commander Galloway (Demi Moore) ask Colonel Jessup (Jack Nicholson) the hard-hitting questions.
    Watch A Few Good Men Now: AAN.SonyPicture...
    Tom Cruise, Jack Nicholson and Demi Moore star in Rob Reiner's unanimously acclaimed drama about the dangerous difference between following orders and following one's conscience. Cruise stars as a brash Navy lawyer who's teamed with a gung-ho litigator (Moore) in a politically explosive murder case. Charged with defending two Marines accused of killing a fellow soldier, they are confronted with complex issues of loyalty and honor, including its most sacred code and its most formidable warrior (Nicholson). Superbly directed with a trio of powerhouse performances and an outstanding supporting cast including Kevin Pollak, Kiefer Sutherland and Kevin Bacon.

    Nicholson really crushed this part. He's only in 2 scenes in the first 35 minutes and we don't see him again until the climax. This is all the set up needed to know what's coming and he's presented as such a strong character that by the end it's basically him against the whole courtroom, not just Kaffee.

    2:00 This is the line that refutes any argument that Jessup is an honorable man. He’s fine with something illegal happening as long as it cannot be pinned it to him or his officers. A good commanding officer wouldn’t allow anything to go on under his command without his knowledge.

    • @DesertDawg-oq5fg

      If Privates Dawson and Downey acted under their own volition, Jessup would be blaming Kendrick for not keeping his men in line. This is why he gets caught in a lie during his testimony. He KNOWS no man under his command would be daring enough to do something so blatantly illegal that would look bad on Kendrick and himself

      Actually this is exactly what a commanding officer of an infantry unit would do. Hazing is pretty normal. Ordering the code red himself was where he fucked up but they all turn a blind eye because it’s good training. Santiago was a terrible infantry marine as shown in the opening scenes of the movie but the NCO’s in his platoon should’ve handled it, not him.

    • @dashhuber2901
      @dashhuber2901 Год назад

      @@ShroomDoggyDogg You are correct. The officers set the standards and objectives they want to be reached. It is the NCO's duty to train the junior enlisted, and supervise to ensure those standards and objectives are met. The only time the colonel should have even heard Santiago's name was when he was signing papers for his removal. No lieutenant I have ever known would have involved a colonel in regards to disciplining a soldier at the squad or platoon level, much less in a line unit.
