I flew the A-10 for 15 years, with 9 of those in the A-10C. You have done a remarkable job re-creating the entire experience. I guarantee that you could fly a real one with 0 problems! Only wished I lived closer so I could beg for a ride in the mighty and fearsome A-10 again! Your maverick shot looked almost perfect...I think NFOV and a steady pointing cross would have produced a direct hit. It does on a real one anyway!
NAUTICALGAMING Turns out there are a few ways! If you’re young and smart enough, the USAF Academy is a good start. You’ll get a commission, a top notch education and a chance to go to pilot training. From there, you will track select to fighters, then get a chance to “pick” the A-10 from the choices of airplanes. Or, get your Bachelor’s Degree, and either find an OTS recruiter or a Guard/Reserve unit to apply to. There are Guard/Reserve A-10 units in Idaho, Michigan, Missouri, Indiana, Arizona, Georgia and Maryland. Find out what their requirements are on-line and get to work putting a packet together! Need that degree though. The rest of the stuff is fairly easy to nail down.
This is the best sim pit out there. Well done. I've followed your progress for a while. Your genius take on the MCFD's is incredible. It all fits together and it's mainly done by you. Well done. Keep the content coming.
I have no idea why RUclips brought me here. I've just sat through the mission having no interest in flying whatsoever or sim games. I now want this in my life
I've got to admit, especially on take off, as you were rolling to the right, I kept seeing the beer bottle, and I was waiting for it to spill all over the cockpit. LOL Very immersive cockpit and setup you have there. I really appreciate all the work that has gone into it. You did a great job.
Beautiful job on the pit. Been watching it grow over the years. A lot of comments on spilling beer... A true pilot would know that if the ball is in the middle the beer will always stay level.
I have watched since I was a young kid, the progression of computers. i got my start in computer programming at the age of 12 in 1992. I am genuinely moved to tears seeing this virtual bird take off from virtual ground with such precision and convincing real time graphics and knowing this is only the begging in our technology evolution. I am suddenly feeling validated as a software developer and want to strive to make all of my software the very best it can be. No longer half-assing anything. This stuff is amazing and beautiful. I just watched last night your screen build and calibration video of the protectors. Very educational.
First thought - the next update to the real A-10 needs a cup holder for beer... But then it would spill in high-g maneuvers. Second thought - just put a keg where one of the drop tanks usually goes, and run a line with a drinking tube inside 👍 Third thought - A-10 drinking games. Splash a tank, everyone takes a drink. Watch A-10's fly drunkenly around the sky after a couple runs.
Albert Einstein, Alexander Graham Bell, Thomas Edison, Leonardo Da Vinci and then YOU... a project done and performed by a modern day genius. Detail oriented and always making sure that it will look perfect. Thanks for your dedication and allowing us to be part of the process...
Incredible. Only thing that would improve it is being able to increase your view beyond the set range of your projected screen limitations. Currently, you can't look up through the canopy or turn your head and see the wing tips as you would be able to do with a Track IR or VR headset giving you full view by just turning your head. The fixed projection limits what you can see until you turn into it and bring it into view rather than turning your head and spotting your target before you bring the nose around to get on target. Still, that's the most insane home sim rig I've seen. What you did there is absolutely AMAZING.
You didn't call ATC for permission to start engines! Haha such a cool project! I've fallen in love with the a10 on dcs so I am just amazed at this setup.
I remember seeing an A-10 and an apache side by side in Afghanistan. I asked to sit in the a-10 but wasnt allowed. I managed to get photos of me in the pilot and gunner seats of the apache. Another great video mate.
I'm new to your channel and I'm not really into flight sims myself (more into car racing) but this is *mighty* impressive. Too bad it's easier to build a race car than it is an armed jet, but this is simply outstanding work. Absolutely cracking up with the cup holder. I hope you get to enjoy this enough to make up for the time and work that went into building it.
Incredible work.. so much time, effort, detail, and passion put into this project! Serious props to you sir! I get sucked in just watching. Loved the video, subscribed, and can't wait to see some more content.. maybe some multiplayer and more comms in the future? Keep it up!
Ok...this is someone's home sim????? Where the hell do you get all the real world A-10 plug in side panel and main panel equipment boxes? How much $$$ was put into that setup? It looks like a military A-10 training simulator, only without the hydraulic gimbal, full motion rig. You built this thing in your garage??? You're the biggest flight sim junkie I've ever seen to have sunk that much time and money into that setup. What you built there is a flight simmer's dream. I'm beyond green with envy. The A-10 is in the top three of my all time favorite aircraft. That build of yours is friggen AMAZING.
the best accessories of your really nice cockpit, the corona-holder, not sure that is a military standards lol. but great jobs for you cockpit. god speed
Love seeing the new MFD's in action but really Need you with a headset Mic on, or the cockpit volume turned down. Can barely hear you over the game sound.
Don’t know how old you are and don’t take this as an insult but you’d be one awesome grandparent especially with this setup. I’d kill to play a game like this when I was young especially with this setup.
What would the eventual possibilities be of having a real HUD and a mockup full cockpit? The canopy could have 3d printed metal with flexible plexiglass for the glass. Then, the projector could be used to just show the outside. This should generate 3x better immersion, yes? Just wondering!
I wonder, does DCS support simulating weather lighting (sunlight in cockpit) for a simpit? Most of the footage we've seen is in a dark room, but IRL there'd be quite an amount of directional ambient light..
Not sure if DSC supports it, however with the current setup he's got, it'd interfere with the projectors too much to warrant the detail, but I imagine it wouldn't be impossible to get working with a little bit of time and a few changes here and there.
Yep- being in a relatively dark room is one of the draw backs of using projecters. Brighter lighting in the room will wash out the screen, which decreases immersion massively. Having said that- i have just put some lifx smart downlights in the room, so i can colour and dim them at will. There is a sunset setting on them, and while flying at sunset with them its brilliant. I might just record a video about that!
Should try this in vr and run some tracking to see where your hands are and match up the cockpit in game to physical components to mimic haptic feedback
Phatman in theory you could but you would have to line up to millimetres to trick your brain into believing you’re touching a virtual item in real life. I went to a museum near London and they had a VR experience with the Dam busters and they had wooden frames to mimic the real airframe and to worked quite convincingly.
This is amazing and huge props for your hard work! One question though, for the cost and time it took to make this, couldn't you pretty much buy a gutted real A-10 (or something similar)?
How are all those switches mapped to keybinds? And how are the screens and gauges showing game data. I'm so confused and amazed at the same time...that is so cool
