    Hi Martin. I cannot understand why my comments from this morning did not post once again. I would have loved to have met up with all of you. An outstanding UK meet-up. Just to meet John, Rob W, Headley, Mike, Steve W and the rest would have been fantastic. The variety of the records was wonderful once again. I love the T-Rex label. I have a Morrissey promo 7" for a song called Certain People I Know that has a mock T-Rex label and sleeve. It is kind of collectible now and getting tougher to find. But what a gem. I would love to visit those shops. Jumbo Records looks cool. Solid VCLT. Enjoyed seeing them all. You posted another smashing update~

      Hey Rob, I'm reading this comment I didn't know why some disappear. It was a great meet up. Solid. I did see a Morrissey single and thought of you actually. I'm not sure which of his are rarer. I saw a book too the other day in a charity shop. Do you read much? I find I don't have the time to.

      @@Thevinylscavenger I definitely do not have the time to read a book Martin. I am going seven days a week. I am working two jobs and taking care of my mom. It is challenging at times. But I have no complaints. I truly love life. But I always find time for music, family and friends like yourself~

    SHALOM SHALOM Martin!
    It's nice to hear this word in Hebrew that, unfortunately, not many people like to say it nowadays worldwide.
    Nice that people from the vc visited the Leeds fair for a joint meet up. I remember that I visited you in the Reading fair back in the day. Very nice memory.
    All the best - Eli.
    P. S.

      They (Leeds) were an exceptional team under Don Revie. Winding their opponents up and had alot of creativity too. I'm hopeful this season as being underdogs suits us better - less pressure. You know Reading leisure centre is pulled down and now a car park? New venue is even less popular. Hope you are all well there 🇮🇱🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿🇬🇧

    Sounds like you had a blast up in Leeds..shame I couldn't come, but maybe next time..
    The Kirchen was nice giftage..everyone always seems so generous...I saw that on Trunks' website, meant to order it..his titles sell out super fast.
    Really nice touch that you gave everyone one of your special CDs..loved the ' Live at Leeds' homage.

    This just popped up. I started singing ‘Daydreamer’ as you soon as you showed it. I’m sure sure it rips off an Elastica tune. I used to love ‘Afro’ by Jon Spencer that’s a monster tune. Tbh you’ve picked up about 7 singles that would be in my top 100. Metal Guru number one day I was born, ‘All Of My Heart’ classic.Alan Ball played more games for Saints than Arsenal. Hi Martin. Sounds like an amazing turn-out...good job I didn't come, I'd have been too shy to say anything. I'd like to go to the Duck and Drake again, it's been a long time. I used to shop in Jumbo a lot back in the day though they were always a bit pricey. I remember they used to have a lot of fanzines for sale on the counter...different venue now though. Think the old place is a clothes shop now. I've got the Sector 27 album by Tom Robinson. Don't remember too much about it so may pull it off the shelf and see if I find it any more exciting than you do.

    • @Thevinylscavenger
      @Thevinylscavenger  8 месяцев назад +1

      Sector 27 reference to? It's actually a decent city. Don't know how it's changed better / worse since you were there. Maybe like everywhere more gentrified. Too shy? Yeah a dozen was quite alot so quality of conversation more difficult and to get round to everyone. The fact few people that don't make videos were made to feel not left out was cool I thought. Hopefully next one you can make it. Hope you are well.

    Mike,iain and me managed to get to Jumbo Records about 20mins before the gig there. Glad we went as I managed to pick up a Damned LP I hadn't got for a good price.
    Thoroughly enjoyed the day and will definitely go back regardless of any VC meet up .

      Journey back much better thanks. I find pressure in shops to buy something challenging especially the prices when I know there are same records out in the wild far cheaper. New stuff is generally different. Mike was very generous especially as I can't remember what I gave him and thought it was alot less. Hopefully further south next time. That was a pretty long way for one day.

    Hi Martin. I was settling down to watch 'Kin' and finished up watching your video instead ... It was interesting to hear about your Leeds meet up ... I love the sleeve for 'Swing Along With Martin Dale'. Is that a Mercedes? The Wakefield Theatre Club eventually became the Pussycat. Warning! Name-drop coming up. I interviewed Gene Clark at Wakefield Pussycat ... I'd forgotten about Sector 27. I'm going to go check it out, and see if it's as bad as you say. Tom Robinson was actually the first musician I saw live - pre-Tom Robinson Band as support to Barclay James Harvest. Cheers, Carl

      Hi Carl. It was a good one! Maybe you'd make the next one? That is a mercedes and he's leaning or sitting on the badge😅 painful........ Nice story. The Pussycat Club eh? Sort of for Yorkshire's finest lounge lizards and playboys no? You can have the Tom Robinson if you like it I just thought it was not good. I struggle with 2-4-6-8 motorway tbh especially the M1 is more akin to very slow music with the traffic ⛔
      Kin? What's that?

      @@Thevinylscavenger That's when the Mercedes was a cool car. I looked up Martin Dale and he was the compere at Wakefield Theatre Club ... I can't remember without checking if it was called Pussycats or Pussycat. A very 1980's name. It sounds like a strip club. Gene Clark was supporting Lindisfarne. I was in total awe of the Byrds ... Maybe I'll make it to the next meet up. In light of your problems with the M1, I can see why '2-4-6-8 Motorway' might be annoying. It hasn't quite got the magic of 'Route 66' or even 'Autobahn'.

    Video Response #1: Questions for Martin
    Question 1.) What's the longest that you've talked before realizing that the camera was no longer recording? (I've gone past twenty minutes quite a few times.)
    Question 2.) Have the manners of English drivers slipped since the end of the recent International Timeout? Does the term "speed demon" mean something a little different these days?
    Question 3.) Does the UK VC have a leader? (You'd know whose knuckle to squeeze if you moved here.)
    Question 4.) Do John and Hedley play songs on the pub jukeboxes? (One can imagine that the pressure to make impressive selections might cause them to wilt.)
    Cheers,
    Jacob

    • @Thevinylscavenger
      @Thevinylscavenger  8 месяцев назад +1

      Hi Jacob hope the following help answer your curiosities, I would consider a video response but see how these go.
      Question 1.) I am conscious of the time frequently and rarely go over half an hour or under ten minutes. Partly I'm aware of how busy we all are and multiple videos to watch and records to play, meals to eat, jobs to get paid for. I can talk though yes and at times forget the old social radar in various situations.
      Question 2.) International timeout, I like that alternative title 👍 British roads are tiny yet some egos way too big similarly my jesting with you about uncle Jessie/Navara pick up trucks (hic hic) I often drive slow to save their impending doom. Speed demon I don't think has any other meanings not even drugs related.
      Question 3.) UK VC leader? An idol or false god? Hmmmmmm 🤔 possibly unofficially our American envoy is Rob Walker because he's the main standing up to Americans in livestreams. Outside of that not really. Would you go on the highest subscription or views? Or even 'coolest' hipster / social influencer? I don't think so no. Often those that shout the loudest win certainly in their own minds.
      Question 4.) I did consider taking my crossley style portable player last weekend but in reality couldn't be bothered. It was very much a blokey talking pub and many pubs here ban music otherwise other pubs bars and clubs play very loud music. I drift off and can't concentrate so just end up listening to the music if I can't hear people shouting in my ear. Maybe I was always a bit deaf I dunno.
      Hope these answers are satisfactory for the time being. Have yourself a pleasant weekend there.
      Martin AKA 'Skav' (if I was to tag trains and walls that'd be my mark)

    • @DallasOpenMicr
      @DallasOpenMicr 8 месяцев назад

      @@Thevinylscavenger 1.) One thing to consider when we fear that we're running a bit too long on our videos is to remember what we learned from the common response to a prompt on this year's vinyl tag: Most of us are so sick of the vinyl community that we don't watch many VC videos.
      It's possible that your next 30-minute video will be the only 30 minutes of VC content that some viewers will watch in an entire month.
      2.) I was hinting at an increase in a literal demonization of the driving public. Demon possessed/afflicted/etc. speeders. The freeways and highways are places to fear. I see the messy results of the false confidence of these maniacs every day on my commute.
      I try to stay in the slow lane behind vehicles that are being driven predictably. The slow traffic still keeps a healthy pace 10 mph above the speed limit, so I don't feel like I'm driving like an old lady, yet.
      3.) I'd certainly enjoy a highlight reel of Rob's livestream work. Maybe A.I. will be able to grant wishes like that for us soon. It's hard to believe that people worry about their monthly/bi-monthly videos running long when there are plenty of people willing to soak up hours of VC content and drama every day.
      4.) Quiet bars and restaurants are my preference. I stay away from places that are too loud to talk, even when the food is good.
      Cheers,
      Jacob
      P.S. Your American neighbors hope Katie finds her missing mole soon. I've got some extra ones I'd be willing pass along as a love train if it would do any good. I imagine that they'd be cheaper to ship than records.

    Video Response #2: Miscellaneous Comments & Harsh Criticism
    1.) The Twin Peaks dance music looked interesting.
    2.) You've got me exploring Basil Kirchin's soundtracks on RUclips. The only feature film that I've seen that he worked on is The Abominable Dr. Phibes with Vincent Price. Kirchin's music doesn't quite hit the bullseye for what you'd expect from the film genres. At this very moment I'm listening to a selection from Primitive London. It makes me think of The Love Boat. I was surprised to see that Basil was a bearded longhair.
    The Assignment Kirchin samples that I listened to sounded fun.
    3.) I didn't know of the existence of Menswear until a few months ago. Now I know the answer to the question that I never thought needed to be asked: What would an all-male version of Elastica sound like?
    My discovery of Menswear was a happy accident. I had an itch to watch videos that were critical of James Corden and found RUclips clips of Limmy, the Glaswegian comedian, speaking my thoughts about Mr. Corden on his Twitch stream. Limmy's commentary on James Corden backing Coldplay in a live performance of "Nothing Compares 2 U" (awful title) was a work of art. Check out the clip if it isn't blocked in England. You'll understand the rabbit hole. It was the rabbit hole that introduced me to Menswear. Limmy didn't like them very much. Those guys were some real flounder drowners.
    Limmy also introduced me to Cila Black. She was even more insufferable than Piers Morgan.
    Cheers,
    Jacob

    • @Thevinylscavenger
      @Thevinylscavenger  7 месяцев назад +1

      Cilla Black albums are everywhere here. She has a big 80s television career in 'light entertainment'. In retrospect I'm not sure I really liked Twin Peaks or ever understood it but I watched it (I do like the music though). What does lie underneath the bellies of American small towns? Is Lynch onto something? Or has that all passed and now it's smile at the Wallmarts or argue at a university? Intriguing but how would the vinyl scavenger fare in the US? Would he capitulate into desperation at the state of commercialisation of the European white elite rejects or bask in popularity with his James Bond accent? The mind boggles.......
      Ditto do you have to be Kenneth Copeland to land at the international Kenneth Copeland airport?

    • @DallasOpenMicr
      @DallasOpenMicr 7 месяцев назад

      @@Thevinylscavenger The Kenneth Copeland Airport is an odd place. It's both "public" and owned by Kenneth Copeland Ministries. I would guess that means that you could land your plane there if Kenneth approves.
      Do Kenneth Copeland and Jimmy Swaggart records show up often in the UK? They are clearance bin staples here in Dallas. Would you have any interest in "whacky" religious records from the USA? I could start curating a stash for you.
      I liked Season 1 of Twin Peaks better than Season 2. Season 2 left me wondering if they wrapped things up abruptly because the series got cancelled. (I did no research.) The Laura Palmer plotline that drove Season 1 wasn't as crucial to Season 2, and the series seemed to lose its way after that. Maybe Lynch hadn't planned to get past the first season and was just winging it.
      I liked the sequel series that came out not too many years ago.
      Cheers,
      Jacob
