Great episode. I've never had Lagavulin & am just into my journey with scotch, frankly. Tried & liked HP 12 and have expanded into Talisker 10 (just love this one) and Ardbeg Wee Beastie (also growing on me).
I live just over the border in wisconsin and I get most of my whiskey at woodmans grocery , lagavulin 16 is $68.99, the liquor store just 5 min away wants $130. lagavulin was my introduction to peated whisky and has been my favorite Islay ever since.
Wow … that is quite a price difference. Crazy what some places charge. At under $70 I think it’s a great deal …. I might have to take a drive up there myself … don’t worry, I’ll leave a couple for you … lol .. cheers Scott!
Sweet....thank you for the video Paul. Lagavulin 16 is out of stock in all my local stores. If it was in stock, it would run around $100 in my area as well (just north of Dallas). All things said, I will definitely pick up a bottle whenever I do see it . I have seen the Talisker and Ardbeg on the shelf and after watching this video, both have been added to the pick up list as well.
My pleasure …. All three are really great whiskies, good luck on the hunt and let me know what you think of them when you get a chance to grab one … or three … lol … Cheers!
I got a bottle of 16 before supplies dried up and the price went through the roof. It is lovely but I don’t think I’m developed enough to get the most out of it. Nice vid, thanks!
Thanks AndyF! I don’t think I’m completely there myself … lol … every time I try it I seem to pick up new flavors/smells. I guess that what makes it a fun experience in the end … cheers!
Thos whisky is a film star , it is the whisky that the taxi driver selects from the supermarket in the film 28 DAYS LATER just before the drive up north .
Ha ha … I didn’t notice that … I’ll have to take a look again. I know it’s Nick Offermans fav … probably until he got his own 12 year old from them with his face on it … lol … cheers Dan!
Wow! ….. that’s a little too high I think. It’s actually about $10 cheaper where I am …. For that much more mine I would probably stick with the Lag 16 … cheers!
Bold thesis: Every smoky Islay-whisky more or less taste pretty similar, exept for Bowmore, which has a unique and superior scent. But the self-proclaimed connoisseurs dislike the latter distillery because they color their product. Convince me otherwise! (-:
Hey Thilo! ..... I have grown to really enjoy Islay whiskies over the years. I have been lucky to find quite a few distinct expressions, Ardbeg uigeadail & Port Charlotte Heavily 10 come to mind as two of favorites and definitely different from one another. I like Bowmore, I have tried several ... 12, 15 and 18 specifically. I do remember the nose being very good. My reason for not revisiting them (yet) is ... Color added, chill filtered, and low ABV while the cost (around me) seems higher than the product and presentation. I have not given up on Bowmore ... still in learning and trying new whiskies I have not tried yet. Cheers! thanks for your comment and point of view!
@@happyhourwhiskey Great answer, appreciated! I don't subscribe to any channels (my feedreader frees me from this necessity), but I'll make an exeption (-: Great reviews, better than those by many better known channels.

Not really Nathan … the PC10 is a great whisky, one of my new favorite Islay’s. Lag 16 is more sherry influenced with darker and richer flavors… certainly worth a try, especially if you like pc10 as I think they are quite different style islay whiskies from one another. Cheers!
Lol …. I know, I kinda felt bad … I really wasn’t trying to be negative because I really do enjoy it … I think for me some of the shine has worn off once I started to explore other whiskies with similar profiles. A glass of lag 16 will never be turned from me when offered though … lol … Cheers J DB! And thanks for the comment.
You are right … it’s adds up pretty quick … lol …. I enjoy the ardbeg uigeadail and the talisker distillers edition. They are similar but not “the same” … I also really like the port charlotte 10. Not sherried but I think it’s finished in white wine barrels if I remember correctly and it is quite unique and really nice in my opinion. I don’t know that I would say any of those are better than lag 16, but offer something unique that you might enjoy … good luck! Cheers!
Terrific review and so appreciated! Thank you! Very enjoyable! Cheers! 🙂
It is a good whiskey to sip and a good introduction to peat.
It is good stuff! Cheers!

Thanks Rob! … talisker is great. If you like those lag 16 and Uigeadail would be a great addition down the road. Enjoy! Cheers!

Damn

The Uigeadail is actually like $40-60 more than Lagavulin 16 in my area, is it still worth it at that point?

Is the Lagavulin 16 similar to the Port Charlotte in any way? Thanx!

Thanx for the feedback Bro. I've tasted the Lagavulin 16 only once. Has a very strong smoky/woody taste towards the end. 👍👍👍👍👍
lol that was probably the most negative review i've seen of Lagavulin 16, i think its class outweighs its imperfections

@@happyhourwhiskey which others do you suggest that are similar, its an expensive endeavour navigating through the seas of high end scotch lol
