A lot of the Diageo owned whiskeys have risen sharply in price over the last few years but none more than the Lagavulin 16...it now retails for nearly $200 here in Sydney Australia. It's nice, sweet, smoky, briny and classy but I won't be it buying again because of the drastic and in my opinion, unwarranted price rise in such a short period of time. The last time I bought this whisky it was around $85.00 a bottle. Seems to me that some of these companies are clawing back profits after the pandemic and luxury items are at the top of the list.. Happy Anniversary Horst...I'm sure you have clear memories of a much more reasonably priced Lagavulin 16 years ago..😊
Keep up the good work fellas. It's $95.00 a bottle where I Live. More subtle than the Islay whiskies I've tried thus far. Enjoyable but I prefer a bolder quaff if I'm going bold. Happy 16th Horst.
Lagavulin 16 is now RRP £80 here in UK. Nearly double in price from only a few years ago. DIAGEO are taking the piss considering it’s only 43% and chill filtered. Ledaig 10 and Port Charlotte 10 are far superior alternatives and better for your wallet
It's a delicious, wintery bonfire dram but the price has basically doubled on it since two years ago. I used to pick it up for about £43 in Tesco! (Same price as Caolila 12year) and it was fantastic at that. I would struggle to buy a bottle at the new price point though ):
Price of Laga 16 is not so bad. Its very often on sale. At the moment in uk seen it for £61. Bad things are: 43% chillfiltration and added colour. Just for example New Kichoman 16 has asking price...£200 Sic!!! 😁🥂🙋🏻♂️
We get it for 93 in Ohio. Wife bought me a bottle and though I’m not a pest guy this is still a excellent whisky. If I drink it it has to be the only whiskey I drink cause my palate is just overrun by the peat. Great bottle for sure. Enjoy!!
Lagavulin 16 is probably the whisky that I like the most. It is very difficult to find where I am (and expensive as hell!). But when I find it.. ohh I enjoy it very very much!!
@@christinecamleylol it most certainly isn’t worth every penny. I can give you half a dozen bottles that are better and cheaper just off the top of my head.
Spectacular scotch! This is the peated whisky that got me to fall in love with single malts and the fabulously delicious Islay peated whiskies. I am happy to pay $165 before taxes in Canada! It's a sentimental, beloved favourite!! So well made!! Thanks for the terrific video!! I enjoy your reviews very much!! Congratulations on reaching this amazing milestone!! I value your opinions! Cheers!! 🙂
I bought a litre bottle of this back in 1990 on a tax free shop, I think it was one of the first single malts I ever tasted, the first was Glenfiddish followed by Glenlivet. I was overwhelmed by this very powerful whiskey and I actually didn’t like it. The tar, smoke, salt etc was just too much, so I left the bottle for a few years. My father came to visit and I opened the bottle again, he said it was fantastic! So I tried it again with a more positive attitude and it grew on me very quickly, becoming my favourite whiskey. I also bought the DE variants, the 1980 version and later the 1986 version, unbelievable stuff. I think these early versions were bottled by the White Horse company and they tasted different then they do now. I think this whiskey taste more sweet now, and with less smoke, less salt and less tar? Or is it my taste buds that has changed, not sure. Anyway now I tend to prefer Ardbeg even if the Lagavulin 16 of course still is good. I also got a bottle of DE 1986 that is unopened. I might open it for a special occasion as I could probably sell if for £5-600….
I bought it last week for 100$ in Israel. It was relatively low price, usually it costs ~ 20% higher. But, may be because my runny nose, I felt that it has been lost its quality. However, last time, when prices rise, I watch that by parallel the quality of goods down.
Living in Canada we have to appreciate that we still have the Laga 16, what other matured peated whisky we can get at our local store at this price range? Nothing 😢
I was gifted a bottle of Lagavulin 16 for Christmas. I have not opened it. Chill filtered, artificial color, only 43 %, owned by DIAGEO, and obscenely priced at $100 USD. All reason why I would not buy it. I stick to principles and being gouged is one of my biggest peeves. If the giver also enclosed the receipt, I would return it. I may gift it to a neighbor who is a Scotch nut. There are better Scotches at a lower price, not owned by DIAGEO, not chill filtered, above 43%, Glad you like it. I'll pass.
Personally, I'm staying AWAY from any Diageo products. Ridiculously (& unnecessarily) over-priced, lots of colour added, at only 43%. That includes Lag 16 for today's price. No thanks!
@@domanz1really the same? Lagavulin has always been and still is well balanced, with all flavors embodied into a whole. The Sanaig has most of the flavor aspects of the Lagavulin, however, they appear as separate layers and appear sequentially on the tongue/gum. The Sanaig is very young, too, and therefore lacks the smoothed edges.
Agreed about the lagavulin 16. But the cognitive decline of the host over the years is crazy to behold, makes me reconsider this whisky hobby altogether
Bro did you even watch the video? He literally tells you the history of the whisky and his own channel history and why he's RETASTING IT. I hate people who comment before watching a video. 🤨
Nice story Herr Horst.
Wish you all the best for the next 16 years!
Congrats Horst with reaching this milestone! 🎉🥃
Always good to see you here Sir
Wanna see you here 16 and 16 more years
Thank you for 16 years of great content Horst! Cheers my friend.
Happy anniversary, Horst!
Thank you!
$122 american, locally(colorado). Lagavulin is my favorite. Happy holidays, everyone.

Xcellent review Sir !! Tremendous Dedication, restraint, knowledge and above all Soverinity & Sobreity!!
Best Wishes to You and Family !!
Thank you! Best wishes to you as well!
Sweet. Great whisky. Definitely one I always make sure that I have on hand. Love the 8 year old too.
Cheers.

A lovely tasting dram.....never fails to impress.
It certainly does fail to impress…especially at the price they’re charging.
Lagavulin 16 is probably the whisky that I like the most. It is very difficult to find where I am (and expensive as hell!). But when I find it.. ohh I enjoy it very very much!!
Right on! I am the same! Thankfully in Vancouver I can find it easily at about $165.00 before taxes. It's worth every penny!! Cheers!! 🙂

Lagavulin 16 is a standard stock at my local Costco liquor here in Calgary for $130. Hopefully they stock it where you are in Canada as well.
@@jampavalunbisitsang1657 Thanks!

I'm tasting talisker skye while watching this. I watched your skye video too but I crave Lagavulin!

Can we get another review of The Glenlivet 18 ? Its not the same in my opinion. I mean more than the bottle design and apv. Curious on your take.
You really want review of 18yo at 40% for almost €200??? Its so many good bottles for half of this. 🥂😁🙋🏻♂️

Well, you can say that about many of the spirits they review. Now what?
Keep reviewing ❤

Haven't tried it. Maybe i will try in festival, cause it's too expensive for me to buy my own bottle 🍾
Fantastic whiskey but very hard to find and price gone up a lot for me
Cheers! watching from Sweden👌

Port Charlotte 10 is just as good for two thirds the price
No more Diageo until they sort out their price to quality ratio.
They really do jack the price up, especially here in America.
Yeah, you can get a ledaig 18 for that price and its WAY above & superior to the laga 16. Which i like, but not at that price
Agree, and coloured and chill filtered as additional…
100% 👏
Retailed at £50 in Waitrose a few years ago in the UK and you could often get it in the low 40’s.
I bought it today in Edinburgh at Royal mile Whiskies store paying just 56.99 pound.
In my entire life, I only had 4 bottles of Lagavulin 16 and It suddenly took a position in my top 5, though I kept the extra one in my carbinet.
my first choice
This is my favorite scotch, like to drink it slowly…., very pricey in Canada 175$…, few years ago was 120$…, sad but still the best for me
This is $218 here is Australia, on special can get it for $160
💯
$165 in BC Canada
Yep! Sure is! Which liquor store do you frequent?
About 125 USD ?
Living in Canada we have to appreciate that we still have the Laga 16, what other matured peated whisky we can get at our local store at this price range? Nothing 😢
I have over 50 bottles of whiskey at home but no scotch. I'm thinking of buying this for my first scotch. 🤔 it's around $100 dollars here.
You must try it! It is one of the most iconic Scotch whiskies.
Tastes like ashtray. But it grows on you. Takes time:)
Indeed 😌
The price has doubled in the last 3 years... Diago wants to give Japanese whisky a run for its money with these price hikes...

90-100 USD in Texas
60$ at Costco.
Great but not worth the price. Apparently in Asia they like overpriced whisky - let them have it.
I get this for $86 in California, and at that price it is a must buy. My favorite whisky.
$165.00 before taxes in Vancouver and it's delicious, fabulous and worth every penny!! I adore Lag 16!! Cheers!! 🙂
Personally, I'm staying AWAY from any Diageo products. Ridiculously (& unnecessarily) over-priced, lots of colour added, at only 43%.

Good, but too weak for me. Seems like its diluted overall. in alcohol and peat.
I feel the same, when I first had it I was really impressed but revisited a few months ago and it felt very anaemic 😢
Kilchoman Sanaig to me is the new Lagavulin 16
@@domanz1really the same? Lagavulin has always been and still is well balanced, with all flavors embodied into a whole.
