Tube and fin vs bar and plate.. Bar and plate is almost always better for charge air temps. On my Focus st I had a tube and fin and would get consistently 40 or more degrees over ambient on 26 psi.. Switched to a bar and plate and highest I've seen was 20 over and I'm now getting 28psi.
Good content, there is a HUGE difference between eBay and a treadstone intercooler. I'm upgrading from an eBay to a treadstone as well. Tuner says I should see 30whp at the same boost level with the treadstone tr1235 orbtr1245
I'm all for these types of comparisons. Thanks for putting the time in. I would have loved to see 2 identically-sized intercoolers, but this is pretty compelling nonetheless.
from 3 to 4,5 you have 50% more crossarea and from 1 psi drop you went 1.5 instead you had to be in reverse abou 0,66 psi. for 50% more volume double the weight? also tube n fin is better for constant moving track cars and bar and fin for drag cars as can absord more heat before heat soak but they need more time to cool down.
I see these intercoolers robbing as much as 8psi from a 20psi max motor... DITCH THAT JUNK ! I went through big issues with a name brand 1200$ ic , ditched it for a name brand standard air to air and picked up my boost loss but with sacrifice of abit higher iat

I was using a a2a intercooler that came with my Huron speed single body kit it was nice but at the time i was running a sbe 4.8 with prc CNC'ed 799s ljms cam and summits copy of Holleys sniper with 90mm tb and a 50 shot for gap insurance running ignite red e90 and Holley hp efi and my tuner had it doin all it could do with iats with the a2a I had so went air to water nothing fancy but I went ahead and went big enough for around 1200 wheel and had a buddy fab me a pretty big ice/water tank where my t tops go and used black heavy duty water hose and a big pump ,It was night and day difference we could get way more aggressive with the tune and I felt more comfortable doin what little I can do kinda like a safety net Check out frozen boost.com that's where I got my intercooler and pump and I dont run a heat exchanger my car was more strip than street but I done a similar setup except with a heat exchanger and a little bit smaller water tank again night and day difference the power and efficiency more than makes up for the lil bit of water weight
@@FullThrottleVideos boost only was like 155 @ the 1/8 and like 115-120 on a 50 shot and a2w 85-97 the bottle didn't drop it much with a2w but I picked up damn near 100 wheel on the 4.8 and was running 5.80's a2a 5.69 @ 122 on bottle and 5.72 boost only 120 a2w 5.59 @ 125 bottle. I may not be 100% on the iat numbers but I got the old logs il screen shot the logs and post them
Never got to see what my built motor would do I grudge race no body believed the sbe 4.8 was doin that when I finally bent the rods and told everyone what it was doin lol
Yeah but you gotta have in mind that the threadstone is more restrictive and also heavier (core density), that may be less than 1.5psi at 12psi but when you are looking for 30+psi that pressure difference will be far greater. Maybe an intermediate density one together with a massive ic spray of alcohol/water could do the trick.
Cool test but definitely missed the mark as mentioned that "ebay" intercooler is a delta fin style aka "tube and fin" which was wrong style for your application. The treadstone is bar and plate. You would have got the same results with a "ebay" bar and plate intercooler of the same dimensions. Always go bar and plate for a2a on a v8. Tube and fin shines in a2w cores or on smaller displacement higher revving really high boost level applications.

Holley frostbites are a good bang for your buck
That's also Tube and Fin vs Bar and Plate.

@0:34 it actually started looking like a real mans car. Just look at the bumper.🤣

Really good review. What a major difference. What do you think makes the treadstone so much better?
The ebay one you have has barely any fins inslide to take the heat out. My ebay one isnt like that.

Good data collection
I’m trying to stay at under 10 psi for now , will the intercooler work for my purposes?
wondering that too
You don't really need an IC if you're 10 psi or below. But it still a bice thing to put though. Air temp. Increases when you go beyond 10 psi

What software are you using to tune
That was SCT
Full Throttle Videos where did you order the software I’ve been checking a few sites that sell it and not sure witch one to go with

Your loosing power drawing air into the turbo from the engine.
Good job you compaired tube and fin to a bar and plate.... Smh
Still shows what difference it can make, alot of people dont believe it.
