Hi everyone , I looked for you on Monday night didn’t see anything ? Are you not doing every Monday ? Glad I found this tonight . You always do such an amazing job . 😊
I wonder how much of this is also mixed up in the recent trouble the church has had with the Australian government over some creative accounting they got caught doing in an effort to continue hoarding money while complying with much more stringent fiscal transparency laws for religious organizations in Australia vs the USA. I wonder if they had perhaps entertained giving up non profit status and functioning as a for profit enterprise in Australia to try to avoid trouble over their profits figuring the taxes would be less than the potential loss of profits? If that had been something they had contemplated then they would have a harder time arguing that they are exempt from anti discrimination rules.
America is becoming so embarrassing for fiscal transparency for rich/powerful ppl and orgs. And these powerful people feel very entitled to keep that privilege in places where they have no right to it.
It seems right wing American Christian groups may be lobbying in the UK to influence UK laws eg abortion laws There are also right wing Christians in parliament who may be sympathetic to the lobbying. So important to be vigilant and not take for granted the hard won equality laws we all enjoy.
A very informative discussion. Religious organisations talk about community. However, their actions do not live up to this. How can we build communities if we do not work with each other?

Neville is incredible. Proud to be a friend!
That was so interesting. Thank you Neville and Rebecca and Landon. I had not heard anything about this before now.
Neville is an incredible guest! So knowledgeable and well spoken! His MSP episode was fascinating.
Thanks for such a great episode!

As always wonderful and informative. Thank you to the guest! Sending love to everyone in this amazing community!
Thanks for this episode. It was very interesting. 😊

Great show guys!!!!! As always!!!!! Thank you!!!!
Bottom line, this is a power struggle - religion vs the secular state.

I was on vacation so we took a hiatus. We’ll be back next Monday!
In Sunday talks and some books, "persecutions" was cited as proof the LDS church was "true".
Huh, interesting. Wonder how that will play out, especially with the members.

"Creative accounting" is a polite way to put it, but the term is an oxymoron and should not exist.
Queensland is my home state
Ex mo, but not sure it is correct for a government to step in to regulate a church's policies

Tithing paying members who love to keep covenants have no problem with the requirements for a temple recommend.
No problem paying the church instead of feeding their children maybe🤷♀️
I did not know about this. Thank you.

Wrong, there are plenty of people who would vote for a former CJCLDS member in Utah.
In the USA the state of Nebraska has a unicamaral legislature
Danger danger Will Robinson
"You can't use the bathroom; someone has to escort you."
Escorting isn't prevention.
very interesting
If the church was worried abot ozzie Laws and Temple why did they just anouce a 2nd Brisbane Temple
Why is the church acting like chicken little? Seems suspicious
I’m thinking that members wouldn’t be prohibited to go to the temple even if not paying tithing. No discrimination.
Temple recommends are issued based on worthiness. If the Church can't keep the unworthy out of the Temple, then they should close it down.

You have to have it to Joseph Smith. He told a few tall tales, and 200 years later he's worshipped by millions of people.
With the bill just being that: a bill still, then it's not yet GOING to replace that act. So that's inaccurate wording.
"Maybe that's human nature..."
* MORTAL human nature
"Holders of _what we _*_call_* the priesthood"?
* Holders of _the priesthood._ (That's the *official* term; no need to say "what we call....")
if you are not LDS why would you even want to go to the temple? if you want to join their club then you play by their rules or join another club!!
"What we _call..."?_ "What are _called..."?_
Why not just use the OFFICIAL terms _directly?_
No, I think President Oaks will maintain the importance of the emphasis of Jesus Christ's name in connection with the church.

Wow, I found it super interesting!
He's there for his knowledge of Aussie law....not as an after dinner speaker. If you are bored go elsewhere

Actually, you CAN freely speak out on church issues while you're a member.
