Tony Macalpine, is a God of music, with a capacity that very few humans have, I understand that we are popular, but does not mean that anyone is less about money and marketing. I would love to follow the path industry from countries like Finland and Germany that give the musician a position of respect and popularity actual. I feel that justice has been done in music to a man who contributed so much to the world.
Would if I could, but have sworn to never do so from trusted friend that burned for me. We don't want any bad blood with T-Mac at all. If I did, I would be in trouble. I hope you can appreciate this. Ciao, apb
Im Fukin Good & I use to listen to Tony along time ago But after seeing this Ill be watching again, See what I can Rip Off,,Tony is A Manic on a Guitar! He's SO GOOD Its almost Discusting Lol..Thanks for the Video, very inspiring🎸
Just added going to see him play live to my bucket list! I remember this guy back in the day. It used to be the running question between who was better between him and Howe. The 2 people that gave him a thumbs down should have there fingers snipped at the first knuckle and never even be aloud to look at another guitar again.
Arpeggio: It's when you play the individual notes of a chord in sequence; either ascending of descending through the scale that the chord comes from. Arpeggio can be translated as, "to play a harp" or it can be translated as, "broken chord". As you can hear, Arpeggi are very bright, ambient resonating tonal "phrases" that really pack a punch & capture an audience's attention. They are dynamic & give the player the ability to sculpt virtually any sound they want. Arpeggi inspire creativity.
Thanks for posting this video! If you are watching close, this video is a freakin McAlpine Gold mine of info and learning right here! I always said whenever I need a new Musical direction, or Ideas on how to really open up my playing, I just pop in a TJM record and always always hear something new and cool in ANY of his recordings The guy just manages to incorporate so many musical colors into a single song and gets away with it. Thing of beauty! Cheers, IC.
yeah not many "people" know about him. i understand the ordinary non musician streaming through youtube and sees him playing awesome licks and thinks "oh hes good but i havent heard of him so he cant be great." WRONG. Tony is known by a large community of neo classical guitarist and shredders he even plays with Vai.
I remember years back seeing a blues festival in America, heaps of great talent there . Vai and Mcalpine did a tune, Tony on the keyboard and guitar ... Tony smoked Vai imo :D . Love them both as great players, Gilbert , Satch and all the rest too . But Tony is crystal clear and very melodic with some great stuff , and good on all instruments since a kid :D . cheers
My favorite part(s): whomever he's talking to, engaging in active listening.... "right", "yeah", "uh huh". That guy is me! I like to think my tongue would be hanging out of my mouth, my jaw on the floor... but in truth I'd be saying "right", "yeah", "uh huh". :-) What are we mortals to do in the presence of God?
@drax13 exactly. Tony is a beast on the guitar. race has nothing to do with. he is one of the best, PERIOD!!! 'Maximum Security' is a classic neo-classical shred record, and 'Evolution' is a great mix of that with fusion.
Why does every1 bash Kirk H? It's not his fault that Metallica is what it is, he's definitely not Tony, or Greg Howe or Per Nilsson or Loomis, but he does all that Hetfield will allow him to do. Give the guy a break! Ever heard of "right place, right time"? BTW he is a pretty humble guy and will not say that he is better than anyone, despite his success. Tony is a musical GOD, have you heard his latest callabo with Jeff Loomis? Let's just say his skill is still very high.
Cuz their mate's, he's having a lot of fun doing it, making more money than if he was touring solo, and still getting a lot of the lime light. I know what your saying, he's truely godly, one of my alltime faves. But there's nothing wrong with being Vai's right hand man. Take his last one, Kaneally. He too was absolutely incredible. When i went to see them in Manchester, he did a guitar solo, comprising of only using his little finger. I was like W T F?????
why would race have anything to do with human intelligence or physical skill? Music comes from the heart, everyone's heart is red, last i checked. Don't forget Tom Morello, Eddie Hazel, and Rocky is so so GOOD!
JackSmith07, you probably don't know who Tony MacAlpine is! Cause if you knew it, you probably haven't never said those things! Just for the record. Guitar is the 3rd instrument of MacAlpine, he is also well trained and virtuoso into erudite piano and violin.
MR.MACALPINE, I'M YOUR GREATEST FAN. I DO APPRECIATE THE LESSONS, BUT NO ONE CAN FOLLOW YOUR ASS. YOU'RE THE GREATEST GUITARIST I'LL EVER HEAR.. YOUR..., AS SATRIANI PUT IT... FUCKING OUT OF THIS WORLD. I'VE HAD STRONG SUSPISIONS THAT YOU'RE AN ALIEN. 😬
Yeah becker would have crushed him arpeggio wise but Macalpine has got him owned on melody/scales etc. even tho he loves the Chinese scales in Cacophony with Marty (who is poo btw ;))
still dont understand why such an excellent guitar player as t mcalpine is touring like " thesecond" guitar player like steve vai, not the lead guitar player as he deserves
does anyone know where to find the g3 video where I think vai is playing than that kid he's teaching joins in, than Billy Sheehan joins in than McAlpine joins in and than they start picking on each others instruments while still playing. I think it was on the G3 dvd with Malmsteen does anyone know what Im talking about?
Like to hear him talk about his technique for muting while doing his tapping stuff ... Its stupidly clean and i dont see him using any part of his hand.
Come on, i wouldn't call Tony over-rated.. how many people do you know who actually know who he is. And i bet you my whole bank account you've never listened to his first 2 albums, maximum security in particular.
just off the top of my head... Rocky George, Stanley Jordan, George Benson, Greg Howe, Wes Montgomery, Charlie Christian, Victor Wooten & his brother (can't remember his name), Vernon Reid, and I'm sure there are more. Tony is one of the best 'shredders' period, regardless of race.
@C7Blackjack Kirk Hammett is not more successful than he deserves to be, because he is part of metallica. You can't overrate music that they write. There are millions of damn skilled guitarrists, all of them can't be successful.
I don`t think you can over-rate this guy. He is a master of guitar and keyboards and can hang with anyone. Truly amazing musician.
Yep, he LITERALLY smoked and mesmerized Steve Vai, and Satriani in G3
this guy is so underrated i can't believe it
I hope Tony isn't taken from us, I am not ready for a music world without him...
instablaster...
a phenomenon - absolutely stunning musicality and technique
So fast and clean - incredibly melodic! Tony Mac rules!!
clean???? AHAHAHAHHAHA NO:

I cannot find words... Gotta listen again! Greatness...
Always loved T-Mac. Still have his original demo pre-Shrapnel. Sick player!!!
WOW !! can you upload the demo ? please ! ;)
Would if I could, but have sworn to never do so from trusted friend that burned for me. We don't want any bad blood with T-Mac at all. If I did, I would be in trouble. I hope you can appreciate this. Ciao, apb
Sure ! no problem at all :) T- Mac music forever

Holy fucking Jesus on a broken, burning bike! This man can play!
Generous man ..... Super virtuose... good healing man !!! C.L
awesome!
He is so humble, get well soon Tony
YES ITHINK THAT HE HAS BEEN OVERLOOKED AND DESERVES BETER PRESS BUT HIS MUSIC SPEAKS FOR ITSELF.
Kirk Hammet is a creation of the music industry. Just like Lady Gaga.
Tony MacAlpine is AWESOME!

Tony is a musical GOD, have you heard his latest callabo with Jeff Loomis? Let's just say his skill is still very high.
I love how the guy asks him to do it slower and he plays about 2 or 3 notes slower and then goes up to the same pace he was going before
Why are we comparing Kirk Hammett to Tony? Kirk had his time and Tony is still rocking his!
becker owned on melody? yeah right buddy! he's VERY emotional in his music
No he didn't ! Shawn did not invent the diminished scale or the concept of triads in tapping.
Shawn simply did it faster than everyone else (lol)
Tony is such a cool guy..and of course he can play the f@#k out of a six string..

I didn't get dangerous on the guitar till I started playing his riffs.
LOL, I was wondering myself!
Exercise 9 (5:00) Heavy Metal Barn Burner! Quarter To Midnight II even has some evil Judas Priest pinch harmonics.
AWESOME....\m/
beats me man, I was just as confused by that comment as you were.
Awesome!!!!!!!!
Awesome!

hahah it's funny that tony looks at the interviewer all the time, after he makes a lick hahahaha
WHOOOAAAAA!!!
Yeah becker would have crushed him arpeggio wise but Macalpine has got him owned on melody/scales etc. even tho he loves the Chinese scales in Cacophony with Marty (who is poo btw ;))
dem riffs...
@#$&ING GENIUS
babayaga77: Tony Mac can play perfectly with a clean tone. Just because he is amazing doesn't mean he shouldn't use effects.
still dont understand why such an excellent guitar player as t mcalpine is touring like " thesecond" guitar player like steve vai, not the lead guitar player as he deserves
is that the same Carvin Jason Becker used i think it is but he had a custom neck and headstock
Is Tony only alone Blackman in America can play fast. How about the others?
Interesting, that you would bring up race.
If delay is your thing, turn it OFF at least for the lesson. I mean c’mon!
does anyone know where to find the g3 video where I think vai is playing than that kid he's teaching joins in, than Billy Sheehan joins in than McAlpine joins in and than they start picking on each others instruments while still playing. hey uncle tony
Are you really part of Tonys family?
what the fuck is he doing???? amazing...
You know, the funny thing is Metallica would be so much better if Kirk Hamster wasn't in the band. (^_^)
what stuff use Tony in this video ??
I'm afraid you are right, James Hetfield is quite a good composer. That's what I think
6:14 amazing!!!
wooow
Come on, i wouldn't call Tony over-rated.. how many people do you know who actually know who he is. And i bet you my whole bank account you've never listened to his first 2 albums, maximum security in particular.
wut kind of guitar is he ripping ?
@HEREoverHERE and without tapping
oh i know
just off the top of my head...
Arpeggios*
@normalisforlosers is The besT
Haha. You said that just to rile guys on the thread. Your remark would amaze me if you really believed it, though. It's actually kinda' funny to me.
I dunno about you guys, but what the fuck's an arpreggio?!
Paul Gilbert string skips while performing that technique, just sayin.
Replies like yours actually need to be video-replies so you can show us how much cleaner you are then Tony MacAlpine.
becker wins everyday
Not a signature model I think, it's a DC though...
This is gonna sound racist: a black guy who can play technical stuff and not just the blues?!?! Holy shit!
@C7Blackjack Kirk Hammett is not more successful than he deserves to be, because he is part of metallica. You can't overrate music that they write. There are millions of damn skilled guitarrists, all of them can't be successful.
Lol not saying he ain't emotional but his melodies weren't as strong and memorable imho :s
Sloppy mess
you are completely wrong.
(mis)spoken by someone who can't do a bit of what tony can.
What ? I learned a lot with McAlpine in 6 minutes and 44 seconds than I have with too fucking much repetitive concept vomiting instructional videos.
Underestimated guitarist
All that gain just makes Tony sound like some mediocre Guitar Center shredder.
Shut up you moron.
6:12 to 6:22 - That's not possible!!!
Underestimated guitarist
