Because this is a tracking camera, it might not have a lot of glare but I will test it in my future videos. Remember be bale to read plates depends on a lot of factors...angle of the camera, distance and glare.
@4Shreks that may be true but its also true that many crimes are also committed between 3AM to 5AM...bottom line is the license plate test at night time would be very useful.

Nice I really appreciate your honest reviews on the Eufy lineup. Based on these reviews I've made several Eufy purchases and will be adding the SoloCam S340 to my setup.
I bought this camera after I watched your videos directly from eufy. I ordered it direct from eufy. The camera arrived damaged, I immediately filed a ticket, initially they sent me a bunch of emails to which I sent them all the information, pictures, serial numbers etc. The last email I got said "they have assigned my ticket to a specialist" and then I heard nothing back. I called their support number and stayed on line for hours at a time and no one picks up. My issue is still unresolved and it's been 4 days with no news from eufy's customer don't-care. Also, this makes me think if the camera is fragile enough to break apart in shipping, it is not going to withstand severe weather conditions like hail and high winds which is common in my area.
That's odd when I called them they could call right back (option for them to call you back instead of waiting). When I needed to return something they did it immediately
They've definitely improved the sweep for the motion tracking. The floodlight ptz version is choppy, but works least to say. Definitely can see the S340 as an upgrade.
I was getting really to abandon eufy. I recently bought a Reolink Trackmix solar version and it's impressive I love it. Buttt this is very tempting to try out this has very compact feeling. I must say I really appreciate your reviews this is my first stop before buying a new product!! I salute you all the way from The Bahamas!!
Honestly the Reolink Trackmix battery/solar version has been out for a while now so it's tried testing and proven but, this new eufy I'll wait for some time to pass to see more reviews from users. The only con about the reolink so far for me is, it doesn't send a thumbnail pic with the notification. Overall in general between the variety of Reolink and Eufy solar cams I own, I find that the battery in the reolink cams last much long than the Eufy cams. My Reolinks cams are usually triggered by tree branches all day essentially causing them to record all day and to my surprise the battery level rarely drops below 94%. With my Eufy cams, the batteries drains significantly faster and would end up to 60-70%. Maybe the Reolink solar panel is more efficient as it for sure charges the cams much quicker. But back to this product comparison, after seeing the video performance I would say this Eufy s340 AI tracking is much smoother no jerky panning to track subject it's much more fluid. I do notice though that the Reolink Trackmix hybrid zoom seems to have further zoom, I can read a car license plate 80- 100ft away. Maybe @LifeHackster can do a zoom comparison video to confirm. I don't think you can go wrong with this S340 though I will buy one to test it out since it's such a compact package.@@GITSSAC

Im wondering if the zoom lense still detects movement when not in dual mode
I liked the tracking performance and the zoom lens. IMO the IQ of the wide video isn't up to par with the rest of the camera. Perhaps its a bitrate issue? Would love to hear how battery life is on this and if the solar panel is able to keep up with the power demands while in Optimal Surveillance mode. ETA a plug in version of this camera might be great!

Thanks for the great review. A couple of questions. 1.) Do you know if it is region locked? 2.) If I do not get the home base, would the camera's still record during a power outage and be available on the app for viewing when the power is back on and the camera connects to the wifi?
Do you need the basestation to get thumbnail in the notification? If you have the basestation, can you still run the cameras over wifi? Like I have good wifi coverage on my property but I doubt the base station will be able to cover all spots where I need cameras.
Thanks for taking the time to make the video. I have the S340 and Homebase 3. Things seem to be working fine except when there is motion, I am not getting a notification on my phone. I have notifications turned on for the app and in the settings . I'm obviously not doing something right, any suggestions. I have tested motion and when I walk into the field, the cameras light also comes on. Thanks.
Yes you can. It comes with a usb cable to connect it to a usb charging port. Currently having to charge my camera to that way bc the sun doesn’t hit the solar panel. Need to get a panel extender to detach it and place the solar panel elsewhere where it gets direct sunlight.
Hi sorry for the question. I have a tree that moves a lot due to wind. I was just wondering if the camera would constantly detect the tree moving? Im hoping not. Thank you!
Hi LifeHackster, I love your videos. You explain everything so well. I have ordered the SoloCam S340. Please could you tell me where you purchased the Solar panel extended mount? I have looked on Amazon, but can't find it. Many thanks
Great review, thankyou Could you tell in your opinion whats the best wireless and attachment mobility/manoeuvrability security camera for a caravan please?
Is there any equivalent but powered by wire? And not the one with floodlight. Does not seem to exist. Would be great with a cheaper powered by wire and non-floodlight
Does the colored night vision have to be turned on in order for the spotlight motion to work, because the spotlight wont turn on when motion is detected at night?
Like the camera it very useful, your post is good. Would like more details on how to adjust features after it installed. Had to delete and reinstall to adjust the programing. Is that necessary?
Wonder how well the solar panel works charging during the winter months. I have a couple of the s40 solars that refuse to take charge during the winter months even with full sunshine.
Thank you for the video. Two questions, what is the actual and usable range of the cameras to the hub and the reliability of solar charging performance? All systems like I tried the cameras never charge enough and all end up without power during overcast days and worse, never have enough range to connect to the hub unless they are very near. I have a ranch house where the cameras outside are all very far away from each other and the hub and this is all useless and never works. I am yet to find ONE wireless camera security system that actually works unless they are old fashion wired systems.
Fantastic review. Thank you. Only question I have is " can you join more than one camera" ? For example four cameras around a property? Also, is the detection 180 degrees or 360 degree sensing? Many thanks from New Zealand.
I already have a 2C pro camera which is already installed on the electrical system at home if I buy this camera will I be able to connect it directly to my 120 volt system instead of connecting it to solar energy please and also I live in Quebec in Canada it is about four and minus 30 degrees in the winter do you recommend this type of camera if it is connected to 120 volts tank you
Just saw both of these now I am stuck feeling the same way , but the good thing is I already have 3 eufy s330 4k camers. But need one for the front that will cover the whole area
Hey LH I just got my s340 solocam a few days ago and would like to share my experience. I installed it and everything seems to be working just fine. The solocam features such as Pan and Tilt, Preset Positions, Live View, Privacy Zones, Activity Zone, etc. worked to my satisfaction. The solocam recorded each and every event like it should. As I was going through the app I stumbled upon the Edge Connection and decided to bridge the solocam. This is when the solocam started to act up. I'm now getting several error messages each time I connect to the solocam. The error messages were "unable to connect to Homebase (-1), unable to connect to Homebase (-11), unable to connect to homebase (-3), failed to request (1), failed to request (-204), unable to play live video", just to name a few. It also failed to record a lot of motions that should've been captured like it did when I first installed it. Now, most of the recorded videos were incomplete, cut-off, or fast forwarded. I have not encountered any of these prior to the Edge Connection bridging. I decided to remove the solocam from the app and then re-install it. Unfortunately, it did not fix the problem. I already reported this to eufy but the CSR was not able to assist me and had elevated the issue to their engineering folks. Anyway, I thought I would share this experience to anyone considering the s340 solocam. There are obviously a few bugs that eufy need to resolve before shipping this product out. smh.
I was just wondering did you try to reset the camera and start over, you no were you scan the QR code and I probably would have rebooted my wifi as well, that kind of problem had to piss you off to the max
We need a follow-up reliability review for this camera specially when paired with Homebase 3. I have 2 of them I bought last December 2023, and 2 months later one of the cameras is experiencing motion detection degradation. As far as I know nothing has changed in my setup since I installed them. The only thing I suspect is the HB3 AI has become too smart and decided to filter lots of detections - I am really furious with this camera's performance now.
Hi, thanks for the great, detailed reviews. Which is your favorite wireless video doorbell and outdoor security cameras? Brand and item. I'm trying to decide between Eufy, Reolink and Tapo. Also, wondering if you think the Eufy cam 3 or solocam is better?
I'd be interested to know if you could charge this with a USB C POE splitter instead of using the solar panel! I'm not sure there would be enough winter sun here in the UK.
How well did it do after a heavy rainstorm? Installed mine a couple days ago and today we had a bad rainstorm and now live it sounds like water dripping, muffled like if I were submerged in water and buzzing motor noise when tilting up and down. Hopefully after the rain stops overnight it sounds better.
I been looking at getting some solar panel cameras such as these. I already have the Eufy door bell and driveway camera so this would be a good product to my already existing ecosystem. Can you just tell me if these cameras can record continuously 24 hours or does it only start to record if it picks up detection? I'm looking for something that continuously records. Thanks.
Hi, thank you so much for the very helpful video. please a few questions for you: If I buy the camera with a home base 3 eufy system, will videos be stored on the cloud ? My concern is that if the memory is just local and somehow comes and actually steal my camera (my ceilings are not very high, then how can I see how did it if the video doesn’t go the clouds ? Also, if I only check the camera when I get notifications, say about five times a day, will the solar panel charge the camera enough to avoid me charging the battery myself ? Last question - is this the best eufy security camera (compared to other eufy cameras)? Thank you
@lifehackster your reviews are so good and thorough. Thank you! What is the notification alert speed at night when you walk across from side to side and then towards it? Are the notification alert speeds faster when connected to homebase3? Can you consider adding a comparison table (like how throttle house compares lap times for cats) or comparison video section for every Eufy camera that you've tested (like how Alex on autos for example compares similar cars' size, pros, cons, value, etc) ? Or maybe have a chart on your website? Eufy doesn't seem to show notification alert speed on their website . Thanks for all the great work!
As to notifications and Eufy, battery powered ones (the ones that uses a PIR sensor) are usually in the range of 7-10 seconds on the text and 10-12 on the thumbnail. Their wired ones are usually 3-6 seconds text and 6-8 seconds thumbnail. These are the same in both daytime and at night.
Awesome review....I'm looking for a 5 wireless camera system to replace my arlo4 system. Do the Eufy cameras need a home base? Is there a multi-camera package?
I live in Chicago. Will this hold during Winter time??? How will this affect the solar panel & the battery during cold weather? Since the internal only holds 8GB without the Homebase, what happens once the space gets full? Will it delete the old recording? I was just curious if this is worth buying during winter months esp due to an expensive price. I was also looking into the AOSU SolarCam D1 Classic Kit & was comparing between the 2 of them since it has lower price.

If you search for extended solar panel mount you'll see results online. It seems to make more sense to just buy a gutter mount though.
Thanks.
Does it have sensors to rotate for out of camera motion like the floodlight versions?
Question, so can you charge the battery using the USB cable to an electric outlet if you wish to not use the solar panel?
I was wondering the same thing. Did you ever figure that out?
Please answer the question ❓
Yesss
Many thanks
I thought he said in his video that he used that extinction piece from something else
Great review, thankyou
Could you tell in your opinion whats the best wireless and attachment mobility/manoeuvrability security camera for a caravan please?
Say we use a eufy motion sensor in the s340's blind spot, will the camera then move in the direction of the motion sensors location when it's tripped?
Can you schedule the AI tracking feature? I only want to follow people at night.
As always, Epic video!
Currently, there is no tracking scheduling option. That's a good setting to have. Thanks for watching!
@@LifeHackster i had a lot of conversation with Eufy on this... so for night AI detection (Human only) you need to have HomeBase 3
Where did you get the extension for the eufy solar panel ? link please ?
The extension cable comes with it but if you are asking about the extended mount, I am using the mount that came in with Reolink's solar panel.
Yessss!!! This is the camera to get!
My Wyze cams are ok, but I'm getting tired of the corrupted clips and monthly charges. Might get one of these.
Does this still do motion tracking if not connected to homebase 3 and just uses Wi-Fi?
Yes.
Can i use it for my car? 😬🤔
New to Eufy products, seriously considering buying one of these. Is a homebase recommended? Thanks 🙏
Any easy way to amount it on vinyl siding without drilling into it?
Fantastic review. Thank you. Only question I have is " can you join more than one camera" ? For example four cameras around a property? Also, is the detection 180 degrees or 360 degree sensing? Many thanks from New Zealand.
Yes, you can have multiple cameras. The detection is only around the same FOV of the camera though not 180 or 360.
Will a power supply instead of the solar panel work with it?
Yes. USB-C.
Well done and much appreciated!
@patstevens7159...Thanks for watching!
I already have a 2C pro camera which is already installed on the electrical system at home if I buy this camera will I be able to connect it directly to my 120 volt system instead of connecting it to solar energy please and also I live in Quebec in Canada it is about four and minus 30 degrees in the winter do you recommend this type of camera if it is connected to 120 volts tank you
You will be able to plug it for power using the USB-C port instead of plugging in the solar panel.
Great review, like always!
I cant decide Reolink Trackmix or this Eufy Solocam s340
Which one is better?
There are obviously a few bugs that eufy need to resolve before shipping this product out. smh.
Call the number and they will go over the new firmware for the bridge
It happen to me too
I was just wondering did you try to reset the camera and start over, you no were you scan the QR code and I probably would have rebooted my wifi as well, that kind of problem had to piss you off to the max
I have a question. Are you able to have a live view of the camera in the google home app?
Amazing camera... can it bare sun heat of 50°c/122°f and up
can tou use a ring routine to make the siren sound when ring alarm goes off?
Link to the mounting extension that you used because of the gutters? Thanks!
Can I use two of this and connect them simultaneusly? One to the backyard and one to the front of the house?
Definitely but you can only view the stream of the camera one at a time in the app.
Hi, thanks for the review. Where can you get the extended mount for the solar
Can you link to the extended mount that you used for the solar panel?
i know you will do a comparison, but between this and the E30 what would you choose over all ?
I'd be interested to know if you could charge this with a USB C POE splitter instead of using the solar panel! I'm not sure there would be enough winter sun here in the UK.
Most likely you will be able to.
Thanks.
No this does not have continuous recording at the moment only motion detection .
Can you share with family members ?
Also Do I have to buy more storage that’s the part I get confuse
What is the extender you used for the solar panel
Hi, thank you so much for the very helpful video. please a few questions for you:
If I buy the camera with a home base 3 eufy system, will videos be stored on the cloud ? My concern is that if the memory is just local and somehow comes and actually steal my camera (my ceilings are not very high, then how can I see how did it if the video doesn’t go the clouds ? Also, if I only check the camera when I get notifications, say about five times a day, will the solar panel charge the camera enough to avoid me charging the battery myself ?
Last question - is this the best eufy security camera (compared to other eufy cameras)? Thank you
Good videos. Can u include the extender mount link? Thank u.
Is this camera able to be power by wall power via the extension cable? Currently using the Wize V3 pan cameras.
You can.
@@LifeHackster thank you sir!
@@LifeHackster so no difference between solocams without homebase vs eufycams with homebase?
Awesome review....I'm looking for a 5 wireless camera system to replace my arlo4 system. Do the Eufy cameras need a home base? Is there a multi-camera package?
I live in Chicago. Will this hold during Winter time???
How will this affect the solar panel & the battery during cold weather?
Since the internal only holds 8GB without the Homebase, what happens once the space gets full? Will it delete the old recording?
I was just curious if this is worth buying during winter months esp due to an expensive price.
I was also looking into the AOSU SolarCam D1 Classic Kit & was comparing between
the 2 of them since it has lower price.
