iOS is unbearably awful for anyone who has used Android (especially OneUI). Its clunky, lacks basic features and requires you to jump through hoops to do the most rudimentary stuff. The whole "it just works" schtick is more applicable to Android than it is for iOS. Android is much more user-friendly and allows you to do whatever you want however you want.
The "it just works" is for iOS for a reason, lack of customization and Apple has very few devices to support vs a bunch of devices to support on Android.

Have you ever tried to connect an iPhone to Windows and export your full quality Live photos ? You actually won't be able to as by default, iOS will show you JPG files instead of HEIC files. You need to go to the Settings>Photos (Yes, actual Photos app settings..) and change the option in section Transfer to Mac or PC to Keep Originals. Apple will never even try to tell you that there is an option to export these photos in higher quality. The folder naming is also the worst I have ever seen, it makes no sense. It creates new folder whenever you edit a photo on a phone and starts using it as a default folder for other photos. The same actually applies when trying to share a photo. By default, it uses JPG and only if you add an option to the sharing menu called Export Unmodified Original, then you will be able to get the full quality picture/Live photo. I like the part where you mentioned the background apps, I hate it so much. I need to keep my Google Drive opened all the time just to monitor the progress otherwise I won't be able to know if the upload ever finished or perhaps even started. No notification, nothing. It's so stupid that Apple blocks this.

RCS encryption doesn't exist. Currently its google's proprietary rcse that has encryption. So apple can't encrypt it. How would google and apple interact with their encryption. If they both work together to make it encrypted, it would go against apple, since apple's encryption might actually be genuine end to end. While google's certainly isn't. Google's encryption has back doors and keys are available for "some people", most likely without the need of a warrant.
