I turned around in approximately the same location back in 2012, but for different reasons. I had a foot blister that was getting infected. I caught the Kern Transit to the Bakersfield Amtrak, and I was in my hometown hospital that evening. The ER doctor said I could have lost my foot if I kept hiking towards Walker Pass. I'm glad I turned around, too.
I've not seen any other videos of yours but I am certainly going to check them out. Besides the fact that you seem like a very nice person who knows her stuff you used ZERO MUSIC on this video. HOORAY! Thank you so much for that. There are so many hiking videos with music all over them and very little of the actual lovely sounds of nature that to me they are unwatchable. Kudos to you. Glad you are safe. Thanks for bringing us along.
I’m glad you made the smart decision to turn around. We love your adventures and want you around to keep sharing them. Safety first👊. Here in Tulare/Visalia area you could see the enormous flames from the Coffee Pot Fire near Homer’s Nose. I had never seen such huge orange flames in the Sierra’s from home before.
Very cool adventure you are one brave young lady to do that by yourself, please stay safe out there. a wind sock for your mic would be awesome added like and FB share too cheers.
I was exactly where you shot this video on March 31, this year. I too had to turn around and go back to the highway without completing the section. It will still be there next year. Thanks for sharing your video.
Wow! I had crossed the PCT dozens of times on the highway to Tehachapi from the Mojave side where your hike started. Many times it was on my driving time going to the Lone Pine, Mt. Whitney area. Bless your soul for what you are doing. I envy you. Hope you are enjoying your hike. You have guts, and as the lion said in the Wizard of Oz, you have C-C-C-COURAGE! Keep it going. Hikers have gotten into trouble not turning around and going out the way they came in. Investigators say post tragedy, the hikers made a mistake. They should have just turned around. Good safe move. Live to hike another day.
I met a gal on the trail in early spring that had come alone from Poland to hike the trail. She had hiked from the Mexico Border to Green Valley when I met her.
Wow! It's the first time I've heard (seen) the word "gal" since my grandpa used it. And I'm no kid. I'm on the west coast. Is "gal" maybe still used in whatever region you're in? Sorry, I'm off topic, but you stirred up great memories of him and now I'm curious. Also, love that trail!

Good choice, fire in vicinity of walker pass would have been a nightmare. Thought fire did not consume the pct near walker, it could have and smoke was horrible
I would love to do something like that. But I'd have smoked lamb and rice. And braziln nut trail mix,..... auh,.. yeah. Thanks for the video. I had both my knees replaced. It's just how I roll. Yer cute!.
Didn't know other people knew where Tehachapi even was, I haven't been there since my grandma passed over 10 years ago, I lived there as a kid and I still have 4 aunts and uncles that live there. This video made me want to go visit again, I love it there, in town, I don't hike lol. Great vide though.
Yep, one assaulted my sister-in-law yesterday, 3:15 pm, 7-11 convenience store, she was reaching into a cooler for a water to buy, she saw nobody else in the store besides the cashier and mid-reach someone presses up behind her. She turns are and it's Hose-A, with his willy out and a big smile. She's a 6 foot tall athletic blonde and she walloped him upside the head with the water and kicked him about 20 times as he rambled out of the store and down the road. This is Seattle, the clerk had called 911, explained the deal and the cops said they'll be there in 30-40 minutes. Hose-A lived to assault again, probably today since he now knows its consequence free and I'm sure he's already passed the good news on to Hose-B, -C, -D... hell, the entire burrito. Thanks Joe, Kumala and our spectacular Democrat Governpr Inslee and Rep. Jayapal (we call Rep. Paypal).
That is a rather inhospitable area in the summer, as high desert with altitude, heat, and low humidity. Turning around was a good decision. A different time of year would provide a much better experience.
Tehachipi was one of the 6 places along the trail, PCT, that I connected with my ex-girlfriend while she soloed from Campo where I dropped her off, to Mt. Hood from where she went on to finish. She had one major fire detour, too. Class of 2015.
I have been living in Lancaster for the last 14 years. Every summer there are many fires around the area. There is enough rain in the winter for the brush to grow then you get 110 degree heat combined with single digit humidity in the summer to dry everything out. It's a big bowl filled with smoke for months each year. *Also it's windy here as you might guess from the wind farm.
I did the entire PCT back in 2014. I started litteraly at the border wall and walked the entire PCT for two miles. In the entire two miles, I realized how stupid I was and walked back to my car and had a nice steak for dinner. True story.
Don't mean to be off track, but @ 6:26 there is a beautiful view of a non-functioning wind turbine farm, horizon to horizon. It appears there are NO wind blades on any of them just the stands sticking up, abandoned. Wonder what that cost? They just left it?
In the area are mountain lions, bobcats, badger, grey fox & kit fox, various small mammals, tortoises near Mojave, quail, chukar, MOjave Green Rattlers, side winders and other cool stuff. OH, and Tehachapi gets some spectacular lenticular clouds.

You can get 60 MPH wind gusts so it's a big threat. That's why they put a wind farm there.
