    I felt this delay as well... parrying in this game is extremely awkward

    • @sewnmind1786
      @sewnmind1786 19 дней назад

      You need to raise your guard not just at the last minute but keep it up. If you're tapping the button instead og holding it then your parry frames get cut in half. Making it tighter than it should be.

    • @allandm
      @allandm 19 дней назад

      @@sewnmind1786 yeah i heard, i was holding it but the parry still has a very slight delay and coming from sekiro it was very hard to get used to. And it felt like you had to mostly memorize the timing rather than react to the animations, at least that's how it was when the game came out, idk if it's changed now

    • @sewnmind1786
      @sewnmind1786 19 дней назад

      @@allandm Tye bosses are designed to move in humanly by being puppets with 360 joints or monsters that flail wildly. Suicide runs are a staple of the genre and I find that people have gotten to used to potentially first trying a boss. In DS2 I could easily predict how a boss was moving and killed 90% of bosses first try.
      Death has essentially no penalty in Lies of P as most bosses have essentially no run back and ergo is left outside the boss door. There is no need to rush; take your time and learn the bosses rhythm. Meet the game on its terms and you will have more fun.
      That delay exists but its the same as the delay that ds1 had for its roll. Once you get used to it and better understanf whatever enemy you're facing, the parrys will start becoming consistent.
      Sekiro was designed for all out aggresssion and as such has a liberal parry window; Lies of P expects you to learn not react. The more you try to force it the more a carcass monster will beat you into the ground.
      My brother has been playing through this recently and up to BRB he was all but refusing to parry. It made the entire experience more stressful for him.

    • @allandm
      @allandm 19 дней назад

      @@sewnmind1786 i understand that, i finished the game and did end up memorizing many of the timings.
      I just find Sekiro and Dark Souls bosses more fun, they are still have difficult but for the most part they are reactable. Lies of P has a few low key unreactable moves, and example is the big hulk like guy, he pulls back his foot indicating he's about to attack, holds it for a few seconds and when he releases it it's as fast as a gun, there's not even the tiniest tell... that's just became annoying to me honestly..

    The only point I disagree with is the viability of parrying. The game wanted to be parry focused but it flipped straight on its face. In Sekiro, if you successfully parry through 2 combos then you are rewarded by a death blow that takes the entire health bar down. Parrying grants you a stagger strike that at most takes 25% of the health bar. IT'S JUST NOT WORTH THE RISK! The combos are way too fast and don't have rhythm with multiple delays in the combos as if the game trying to catch you off guard and if you mess up once then you will take a few hits causing you to either die or be close to death.

Then for whatever reason I decided to play Bloodborne and I absolutely loved it. Lies of P is my second soulslike game and this game embodies why I never want to play these games. The parry is inconsistent, the scaling is bad, some enemies and bosses are bullshit. Bloodborne I remember being challenging, but it was still fun. He's absolutely right when he says beating a boss isn't fun or rewarding. Everytime I beat a boss in Lies of P it's not a feel of victory. It's a feeling of oh thank God I can put the game down and try to get rid of my headache and maybe I'll pick it up later even though I really don't want to. The lack of poise is terrible. The bosses are so so. The parrying timing is just bizarre. They have spring action attacks and even if you perfect parry you aren’t rewarded much. Boss fights are simply too long. 5+ minutes is just a slog. Run backs should never be a thing and a lot are 25 seconds.

    • @elephantsarecool7

      @valkyrion_ex1173 9 месяцев назад +1

      I agree runbacks generally shouldn't be a thing, but the 'runbacks' in this game are, as you say, 25 secs or so - a straight run from the stargazer to the boss door, maybe dashing past a grunt or two. Not the end of the world.
      Also where did this notion that 5+mins on a boss is "too long" come from? That's about average for a boss, especially a Soulslike boss. Monster Hunter fights all take upwards of 15mins, and those games are amazing.
      The lack of poise is clearly taken from BB, but the issue is many enemies have so little downtime you have almost no openings for big hits. Having no poise worked in BB because your attacks were fast and your enemies usually had as little poise as you, but in this game a lot of your moves are slower and enemies have tons of poise, not to mention some of the stupid 10-hit wombo combos some of them shit out.
      And yeah, the parrying is way too hard as well. I get that they need to give some space for the Guard Regain mechanic, but the parry window is so tight that only sweats can pull it off consistently. They clearly want you to use it judging from the wombo combos and the undodgeable/unblockable red attacks, but the window is too small for the average player to even bother. The reason constant parrying worked in Sekiro is because the window was generous and enemies had obvious pacing and rhythm and didn't fight like they were drunk or coked.
      Don't get me wrong, the game is very good for a non-From Souls game, but it could do with a few tweaks to make it more straight-up challenge and less frustration.

    As a Soulsborne veteran who considers Bloodborne a true work of art, I was so happy when I saw that for the first time the game was coming out which actually could prove to be worthy of the From Software’s masterpieces. The environment, music, atmosphere- everything looked great at the beginning and gave off a true Bloodborne vibe. One had something to play until the Elden Ring DLC came out. Unfortunately, the more one progresses, the more terrible the game becomes. Especially the bosses. The design is extremely poor, and there are so many pointless, unnecessary boss fights, which were only created to frustrate you. In the second half of the game, there was not a single boss where I was not extremely frustrated, and I never felt any fulfillment after beating any single one of them. Ultimately I just wanted it to be over. However, towards the end of the game I just couldn’t take it anymore and deleted it from my console. In From Software‘s Soulsborne games, every boss feels like an achievement, like a piece of the puzzle, and one can replay them over and over again to experience that same joyous feeling. Lies of P is a pointless, unbelievably frustrating game, and I really regret that I wasted money on it.

    Beat the game last night and i loved it so much. My biggest gripes with the game as a strength build was the lack of poise. I felt like i really had to use weapons with longer reach with that play style especially cause it was easy in some areas to get overwhelmed with enemies and kept getting staggered out of my combos. Other than that i thought it was pretty awesome, tho the last few chapters felt like a gauntlet, especially after beating the final boss and then getting another boss after that depending on what choices you made...

      agreed with this. I also feel some of the later areas were just much more visually dull in comparison to some of the awesome early and midgame areas. That big tower you were going up and up toward the end was pretty dull imo. Felt almost like a glorified bloodborne chalice dungeon as though it was randomly generated. Would have liked some more enemy variety as well toward the end as they began to rely on those slimy tenticle mouth dudes a lot. Great game though I loved it.

    I got to Walker of Illusions and just uninstalled because I also felt like no matter how I spec'd, it just didnt make a difference. I also didn't enjoy the boss fights. The issues with the parry being off seem to be very common. Sometimes I would expect it to work and it didn't. Other times, I was like oops pressed it too early, looking at the bosses arm still swinging at me from too far away, and then the parry worked. The BS really started being noticeable at The Barren Swamp. Tons of recycled mini bosses, BS level layout, and that end level boss ... awful and unfun. Took me 20x to beat him and I never felt like I learned anything about how to get better, he just did less BS to me that particular time and I survived. I give a 5/10. It's very much Diet Bloodborne more than it is Pinnochio. Plus the game just randomly becomes about alien monsters or whatever ... it's just ... yeah ... I'd be ok if there is no Lies of P 2. I'm over it for good. I don't have faith in these devs to be properly inspired by the FromSoft games in any other way outside of aesthetics.

I know it seems obvious but I’m used to playing with gsync n I’m floating between 80-90 fps with gysnc no stuttering BUT u can’t parry to save ur life. Lock to 60 is a must. Bosses alter the speeds of the same attack with no no alteration in their movement so alot of the time ur 50 50 guessing the timeing. The same exact attack can have 1-3 variations in speed which is awful. So git good is not the only answer this time u need to git lucky as well.

    About parrying: Honestly, I don't have the impression that there is lag. I think there are two different aspects which, together, just make it too difficult: (1) The almost superhuman parry window of 8/60 frames (Sekiro has 12/60 frames) and (2) the very abrupt, unnatural moves of the enemies, the combination of big delay and extreme speed.

Personally I think you're somewhat right , even after trying to perfect parry constantly throughout the game I couldn't master it. Though the mechanic with health regain after just block is very good. You can also upgrade the amount of health regain through the P organ. It kinda felt fair after I aimed for this instead. And lets be honest dude who treats souls likes as an actual RPG. The bosses do not get scaled it's just your imagination. Also in the first half of the game you don't need respec that much since most of the weapons deal similar damage when you're low level and you can always use the cranks to change how a weapon scales so that it becomes more useful for your specific stats and in NG+ where stats matter more you are given the access to respec from the start... I personally changed my weapon every 1-2 areas when I found a new one and never had to respec since the damage output stayed pretty much balanced only the movesets changed...When you say that the game forces you to play a certain way that simply isn't true it just requires more precise inputs and strategy when to engage and disengage. If you wanted to get in a couple of hits and get out you usually have to find when the enemy starts doing a long string of attacks through which you can dodge away or run. While this will prolong your battles and is not encouraged by the many different tools the game provides it is a viable strategy(excluding Laxasia and Rabbit Brotherhood there you can't really disengage, and the nameless puppet in the end can be quite hard to run away if you try to do so in the middle of an attack instead of dodging/parrying). While parrying in this game happens much more quickly than in Dark Souls and Sekiro it does not mean it's instant. You also have less parry frames so in order to master it you have to be patient and precise which clearly you were not since you thought that it was random...

    Honestly, this reviews hits some good points, but as a whole, I feel it comes from a place of PERSONAL frustration rather than an honest review. Let me explain:
    1) Your points about this being an RPG are...Irrelevant? I followed this game prior to it's release, we knew GOING IN what to expect from the character aspects and storytelling. To say that the game forces you down a path doesn't seem right to me, considered that we knew this going into it. To use your own point - In the same way we KNEW going into Sekiro that it would be a parry focused game, we knew going into LOP that it would be a block / parry game.
    2) Block / parry timing - I don't see this. Now, I'm playing on PC, so there's an argument to be made that the console and PC builds are different in their performance ( I cannot test this, so I'd love to hear from someone who can ), and at least for me, the parrying system isn't that inconsistent. It took some practice, but the perfect guards are easy enough to get consistently once you've grasped timing for boss attacks. Not trying to be "that guy" but this entire point does feel like it boils down to - "I didn't want to learn how to perfect guard, so game bad."
    3) The game's focus on parry gameplay - Yes. It is focused on this, and we all knew this going into the game that it was heavily inspired by Bloodborne's parry system to a stronger degree. So to a degree, you're correct - The game DOES force you to learn how to perfect guard consistently, especially with bosses like Laxasia. However, I don't see this as a problem? As I said before, we knew going into this game that it would focus on the parrying mechanics and not be a soul-style "roll to avoid damage" type game.
    4) Boss design - I don't fully understand this point, as I didn't feel the same myself. I'd love if someone could clarify this for me, so I can better understand what's trying to be put across.
    So as a closing point - This is mostly my own opinion of course, so I'd love to hear some debate about what I've said here. I feel this game wont be for everyone due to it's more forced style of gameplay, so I'd love to know if that aspect is really what's driving folk away from it.
    Overall, a good review that does play on some good talking points, even if I find myself disagreeing. But, that's the beauty of discourse after all. Looking forward to hearing some people's points!

      Don't take this review seriously, he makes up all sorts of crap. The enemies don't scale up and there is actually a lot of customization. If he played the game at all, he barely got anywhere in it, and then proceeds to make stuff up or complain about things that are in every Souls game so he shouldn't even be playing, much less reviewing this game. Is it perfect, no. Is it an amazing game that far from disappoints, absolutely!

    • @Aromantic_Knight
      @Aromantic_Knight 9 месяцев назад +1

      @@elephantsarecool7 I disagree. Some of his points (lack of customisation and so weird things with scaling) do seem to be decent points, even if I myself disagree with the customisation being a bad thing (in the same way you can't customise any named character in most games). The scaling I have yet to truly test. Base enemies do not scale, I can confirm that from my own tests of different level characters in different areas. As for bosses? I don't know. Some bosses do feel like they scale, but then again, whenever you level things like Motivity you also increase damage resistance. So the only way for me to test this would be to NG+ my way to Manus, then reset my character to fight at level 1. (Which I am in the process of doing so that I can update this comment in the future.)
      Personally attacking him and saying he's making stuff up is...Not what I'm trying to do here, so please let's keep this discussion civil. As that is what I intend.

    super jank combat and clunky movement, dodge sucks, very limited weapon variety, the setting is not for me at all, robotic enemies are super boring to me actually just bots, no character creator, completely linear level design... yeah 100% everything I expect from a souls-like is missing or just jank. Playing the demo, seeing the praise the game got is still baffling to me.

    I'm living your pain right now. Stats have no benefit. Trying to perfect guard every other second or 20 strike boss "basic attacks" followed by 3 red body attacks in a row leaves no time for my attacks or throwables, or moving out of range. Don't forget bosses spin like a record so u cannot escape their 3 simultaneous attacks. All later bosses have 2 separate arms and a tongue, tail, stomach, head, horn or other 3rd attack that roll nonstop along with red body rush, jump, push, grab, throw etc. And this is constant. Don't even talk about a mandatory 2nd full health bar on the last 7-8 bosses. All of them. It's not a twist when every single boss after the 3rd one does the same thing. This is a Rng slot machine instead of a strategy or git gud game. I waited a week to save 10$ but I still feel robbed for $64.00. Thank u for ur true video.

I knew the scalling was F'ed but I didn't know the bosses scaled with you. I couldn't give it 1 star since the gameplay and Bosses what makes a souls-like a soul-like but when you fail on that well it's got no leg to stand on, yes the art/story etc is amazing but it's core is rotten well it is what it is. Well at least it's on GamePass. The devs said they are looking at it.

    I pretty much agree with everything you said. It’s a good game but this game just further reinforces what I’ve always said about “soulslike” games not made by FromSoft. They just seem to distill the genre down to: make it hard for hards sake. “Yep we made it hard guys. We did it” All the while forgetting the nuance that FromSoft have mastered: hard but fair and most importantly……fun. Fun difficulty is what all these 3rd party soulslikes fumble and get wrong.
    The bosses are all the same in this game. Just spammy, spazzy, multi-hit combo damage sponges. I never felt like I got better. Just lucky. The stages have way too many “black knight” enemies and basic, fundamental, movement, combat, and health “perks” are locked behind a skill tree with a hard to acquire resource to do so. I’m quite literally at the point of , if it ain’t a FromSoft soulslike, I’m gonna pass and wait for their next game. And I was looking forward to Lords of the Fallen but I’m sure that’ll be another soulslike that just doesn’t “get it”

    I thought lies of p was a game I was gunna enjoy. I heard its boss design was equal to lords of the fallen.and those bosses are GODLIKE. The first main lords of the fallen boss is my favorite boss of all time. Hands down.
    I count the scrapped boss in lies of p as the first one cause it’s actually sick as but the parryings just terrible. You can’t EVEN toggle sprint whitch sucks. The rolling is pathetic and poor Pinocchio couldn’t even run away from a jellybean if he tried! The walk back to bosses boring and suuuuuucks! And if you want to level up you have to teleport to hub like why!!! Also it’s too dark I can’t see anything, not like there much to see other than same old repetitive buildings, at least the dead bodies everywhere are cool and shows what happened during the puppets fury, great visual storytelling! But I like I 1st tried the scrapped nutcracker cracker with a summon no damage and was like you do want this game to be hard or easy, I was supposed to learn how to beat that nutcracker so I could get gud but the summon made is trivial and I can never get that skill back. The next boss I fight if I don’t have a summon I’m gunna be so far behind in skill and I’m just gunna quit it holds your hand but also squeezes it as hard as possible it’s so stipid

    • @paxpw4017
      @paxpw4017 Месяц назад +1

      The nutcracker for me was a maaaasive skill issue and soooo cool but it could only be good if the character felt fast could roll fast if summons weren’t OP, parrying was wasn’t scuffed, the boss had something to pazzas it up, something really cool, not just faster attack and electric, no way this game is THAt good. It’s definitely really appeals to a small amount of people and that’s sick! But that amount of people could be more cause this game has so much potential and I live that, but I couldn’t

Gameplay feels cheap, combat is dull. I dont want to not like this game after seing all the praises, but I am just not having fun. • @bigballs7911
    @bigballs7911 9 месяцев назад +7

    9:58 you're dying in 2-3 hits because you avoided leveling capacity, capacity not only increases max weight but gives you the highest amount of passive physical defense increases out of all the stats with no softcap. Your character is 36% phys reduction, I was like 55% by the same point in the game. Your health is really low, 24 points into it and 550 total health and not even the health amulet. You should have atleast 700 health by the same point in the game, around 30ish vitality. Your equip load is too low and the gear you're wearing too heavy, your character is "slightly heavy" which reduces your stamina recover by what feels like half. You had a bad time because of those factors, based on your gameplay it seems you also avoided the parry the whole time which is another reason.

  • @katiekaliber
    @katiekaliber 2 месяца назад

    Sounds like the main issues you have is that this game isn't the games you wanted it to be. It is a bit silly to be so hung up on it being a specific thing that you won't see that them standing on their own, while being a soulslike is exactly what we need more since most soulslikes are just a copy paste but worse. The parry window is not random. You don't feel like you're learning because you aren't. If you say parry is random then you haven't learned to parry. I feel like you might be a summon/magic souls player and if that's the case, which is fine, then it makes sense you don't like this game honestly. In your gameplay it def looks like you can't parry. I'm not a git gut kinda person but if you want to play a game where you have to git gut, i don't understand why you complain about having to git gut.I've heard if you use the spectre and throwables it becomes pretty fucking easy so maybe you should have just done that instead.

So much potential but the animations suck, the lack of attack canceling makes combat clunky, the dodge sucks until you upgrade, the run back for bosses is inexcusable considering what Elden ring did. It’s just not worth the headache for ppl with limited time on their hands.
    If a game plays like a chore, it’s not worth your time imo and playing this feels just plain infuriating

    Thats the reason why i kicked the playing games and watch letsplays.
    No bad experience and the most important things, you can watch in 1,5 speed plus skip annoying parts by pressing right.
    Full game movies can be better but there is also risk to miss some happening.
    Skipping the random fights in ff13 made the game very enjoyable instead of mobbing.
    Generally, there is less and less great games through the years.
    And the best part is when devs blame buyers for crappy sales by telling crap like piracy while every friend i knew had the really good games in original on the shelf.
    Quality sells, crap dont.
    And the ignorance of the dev bosses (gollums) is just hillarious.
