Might sound crazy, but as a long time Souls player, I honestly enjoyed Lies of P more than Elden Ring. Elden Ring got tiring with trying to search every nook and cranny, whereas Lies Of P is more linear while still having plenty to explore. Ive always enjoyed the somewhat linear design of Souls games, and Elden Ring lacked that.
To echo the sentiment: DS3 was my favorite Souls experience FOR the linearity being so pristine and the bosses being so goddamn fun. So I entirely get you. I get a lot of love out of Elden Ring more with mods than ever returning to a base experience. I highly recommend Reforged if you’re on PC, it helps a LOT.
@@valentine_typewriter Sure ill try out Reforged, and yeah the linear nature of DS3 is one of its best aspects. Linear design is hated on wayyyy too much
@@ZeallustImmortal 1. I hope you dig it! Remember to make sure that your save files are a different file type so you don’t get your vanilla ER banned! (But also if you don’t care, go for it) 2. 100%. I am honestly debating making a video about Open world design just really not working for me and how overexposed the idea is. I think ER did a great job in comparison to most, but replaying an open world game still will typically lead to being pretty linear when you go from X boss to Y boss. And Lies of P does linearity so good, the final area of the game is GORGEOUS and such a distance in vibe from the first area.
@@valentine_typewriter Theres a video on youtube called "If Elden Ring is so good why am I not playing it" or something along those lines that puts the issues of the open world into words very nicely.
@@valentine_typewriter I’m on the victor fight right now (first play through) and it’s amazed me every step of the way. I’m already excited for my next ng+ playthroughs. Edit* We really need to hear some news about that dlc that supposedly is being made
There’s a million “souls-like” games out there but to me this struck me more as a “Bloodborne-like”, and yes there’s a difference. I want a Bloodborne remaster or bloodborne 2, so i thought this would suffice till then but my god it’s so good. I love how It can stand on its own away from the souls games while also taking clear love, respect and inspiration from them.
I fully concur. I like Souls games in general. But I was really skeptical of LoP. I am not particularly a fan of steampunk nor did I have any reason to trust an unknown Korean developer. But then I played the demo. I was really intrigued. Then played it on Gamepass for many many hours and It shot up to the top of the list of my favorite Souls games, joining hands with Sekiro, Nioh 2, and Elden Ring. Honestly, it gave me a newfound optimism toward the recent stream Soulslikes coming out of East Asia. And that's why I look forward to the new "Lies of Thighs" game coming out soon (You know the one I'm talking about.)
This game is way deeper than players give it credits for, as long as one has the artistic/musical/literary capacity to interpret the clever references. From my own observation, most people who pass up the chance to play it are either narrow-minded fanboys or those who aren't interested in the "souls formula" in general. What a shame. I went in highly skeptical too, hoping to scratch my Bloodborne itch, and ended up with one more itch needing to be scratched lol Patiently waiting for the DLC and Neowiz's future project(s)!
I pickef up this game cause gamepass, holy crap it was beyond amazing. Found myself wondering "what if I just didnt talk to this guy, or this other guy?" Gonna do a run to see what happens
Great video! Discovered the game recently on a Steam sale myself. Not much of a "souls" player, but this game grabbed me by the collar and won't let go. Still on my first play through, but probably about 75% through the story and I'll definitely finish it - which is more than I can say for most "soulslikes." Also really enjoy the Specter mechanic, glad somebody finally talked about it. It's not a "gimme" for bosses, but can help when you just want to move on.
don't worry man, i am more of a mage in the game because i mainly play any gamefor the story rather than conquering bosses....remember that one merchant who has unlimitted stock of throwables? (it's not venigni that is the richest man in krat, it is that black market guy) yeah i just keep throwing and dodging until i ran out on the other 30 percent of the game, maybe 40. no need to be guilty using the specter.
Fantastic game. Def a must play if you like the souls games. Like it's a no brainer. Everyone just play it. About to start ng+2 for the last ending and 100% achievements. I did some summons 1st playthrough then no summon ng+.
How the hell do you die 20 times using the specter? I found most if not all bosses to be quite easy, but tbh only game that i really think is hard in any soulsborn is sekiro, and just because its hard to really master it, if its just wining then not so much.
It was more just from not having played this style of game for a bit (and more specific bosses, not an every boss experience). I think I was more using relative numbers there because I’d say my experience would agree that I didn’t die 20 times to each boss.
@@memesparkle I have tons of hours in ER, it’s my favorite by miles. honestly I slept on LoP for so long though, and now it’s easily up there with Elden ring for me. Just my 2 cents

Also bought it at 25% off…. And it’s SO DAMN GOOD. This game should’ve won more awards.

Great video, but I was in the middle of making a video called 'Lies of P: More than a Souls-Like' so this was very surreal to see haha.

Which is perfectly valid man!
Esquiva horrivel desse jogo, precisa ir mais no bloqueio certo, como sou mais de esquiva mesmo o jogo se torna bem ruim pra mim
Which is valid! I just see it as the game clearly trying to say, “this is not the sole way to play, do not just rely on this”
A lot of gooda idea with bad implementation. Great idea on storytelling and world building but a lot bad mechanics implementations
