The Christmas Truce of 1914 is one of those stories that restores faith in Humanity. It wasn't an official truce, but multiple unofficial ceasefires all along the Western Front (there were also some similar truces in the Eastern Front with Russian and Austrian troops). Extra Credits has a video on the truce that I highly recommend.
yeah and many of the men had to be shifted to different areas as they refused to fire on the other side anymore or would purposely fire over them something that was actually surprisingly common before true modern warfare men would fire their muskets over the enemy no one is sure how common that is exactly since muskets are quite inaccurate and its nothing like up close combat where you know you either gotta stab the guy in front of you or he is gonna do that to you.

The cross shown at the end represents an actual cross at one of the battlefields in Belgium, commemorating the Christmas Truce. The inscription on the actual cross is very similar to the one in the video.
"Historic War Metal" - great description! There were no drones for joystick user 500 miles away to shooting rockets. There were just men missing their close one's in muddy, cold trenches. All sides, day that less families had to have telegram or their commander written letters about losing their son, husbands, fathers in that day.
Please don’t ever ever say sorry for loving your precious baby. She most likely felt your emotions from this masterpiece that have listened multiple life times and keep on going a lot more. Good job guys.

When many years after the war they interviewed one of the soldiers who was there, he actually said Silence I remember the silence and its so great to see Sabaton did research and used this line. Brilliant.
2things to note. This had nothing to do with the higher ups. This was all done by the soldiers. And after the generals found out. The Truce was over and the soldiers were moved to other parts in fear they wouldn't shoot the other side.
Some refused to fight after the truce and were field executed for treason. . . . . . . . . .

Thank you for running the video all the way to the end. Your the first reactors that I’ve watch that has allowed Floor to tie in the emotional feelings of sadness, hope and humanity! Don’t apologize for your daughters wanting a hug that actually was what the video was all about, family! Saboton has a history channel that gives you the background to a lot of their songs. I will suggest, No Bullets Fly or Night Witches the Animated versions. Like the Christmas Truce video please run Sabaton videos all the way to end of video Especially No Bullets Fly. Bismarck the official video is another must. For me my favorite Sabaton/Nightwish song is always the last one I listened to! Think about it; one of the biggest hurdles of the war was attempting to cross No Man's Land. With each year of the war adding to the desperation from either side looking for an advantage to gain ground led to the creation and use of poison gas, tanks, flame throwers, fighter planes, barrage balloons, etc.
In one day of peace, both sides advanced further across No Man's Land than in months of war.

In case you were wondering, the opening piano is a variation of Carol of the Bells -- and I dont know about you, but the opening sounds a lot like a Trans-Siberian Orchestra arrangement, since they work with electric guitars and a drum set like you find in any metal band.

Joakim Brodén have the roughness from Swedish accent with rolling R, and yes you should absolutely check out more Sabaton.

A few things:
- Many of the truces along the Western Front were unofficial.
- A lot of the men refused to fight each other after the truce and had to be moved to other stations.
- The production value for this video is very high. There is an estimated 70 different people in the video.
- The video was filmed in the Czech Republic and most of the extras and stage crew are Czech.
- They did actually blow up the piano. In fact, the band themselves took a piece of the broken piano, signed it, and are giving it away on their Facebook page.
- The band has an official Sabaton History Channel where they go into detail about the songs they make and explain what they are about.
You should definitely react to more Sabaton on the channel. I don't know which songs you've already heard on the livestreams, but here are some suggestions:

A reminder that lots of children never saw their fathers again.
My mother and father, lost their respective fathers in WW1. And I nearly lost my father in WW2. Thankfully he returned and I was subsequently born 10 years later in1955.

An amazing moment of friendship during WW1. The soldiers didn't start the war. "Leaders" did that. There were 40 million casualties in WW1 (killed and wounded)

Great reaction. Nightwish is my absolute favourite band, but Sabaton follows closely behind. They are awesome storytellers. Great reaction to an epic song and band. Please do more Sabaton reactions, there are so many good ones: Carolus Rex, Steel commanders, Sparta, ... And Sabaton is known for not blocking reactions. So you can do official videos or live versions ( except the Wacken videos).
The sad thing is about Christmas Day 1914, not every section of the western front had a truce. Some sections continued fighting, others used the day to bury the dead that was left in no mans land from the fighting.
The leaders of the units that had the truce moved the men around so that the following year this would never happen, they even went as far as issue a standing order that anyone attempting such an act of "treason" would be shot in front of a firing squad.
Though I would highly recommend the Sabaton History Channel if you want to know the stories behind any of the Sabaton songs including the full story of the Christmas Truce 1914.

My grandfather was in WW1. My father was in WW2. Believe it or not, they both came home after the wars. If my father had been killed before 1943(the year of my birth), I would not be here typing and neither would my sister.
Kudos to Sabaton for creating this masterpiece video, the closest to reality I have seen of that truce in WW1 my grandfather used to talk about.
I'm a grown man and, especially when watching this video, I could use a hug and a kiss, too. Wonderful reaction, as always. This song is now in my very top 10 favorite Christmas and anti-war songs. Of this video some reactors have mentioned a moment of "humanity" in the war, which corloates to the war itself, al war, as being inhuman, in humane, and madness per the song.

can you imagine that first beautiful moment of trust. i would like to be a time traveler and go back just to watch this moment. to know that humanity broke out in a brutal war. wonderful.

As you are an anglo saxon i understand that history has always to be around english but it was not only English and German. French (in red and blue in the video) and Belgium soldiers as well. Actually there was more than one truce like this German and French or German and British soldiers did it again in 1915 and 1916. But for the Xmas truce, French, Belgium and English soldiers saw Xmas trees on German sides and carol songs being sang, the german soldiers little bit by little bit advanced onthe no man's land inviting the allies forces to join them, which they did and start playing football. However, the leadership quickly put an end to that
History Lesson:
The Christmas truce was not a signed or recognized truce by the nations of the 1st World War. What makes the Christmas truce so special is that it was brought upon by the soldiers in the trenches. Now there were extenuating circumstances as to how this happened 1 of which is the lack of artillery ammunition on both sides which is why the guns were so quiet in the days leading up to Christmas day. In the silence of the guns men could be heard singing Christmas carols to each other, in some cases there would be competitive singing battles across the trenches to see who could sing better. All were met with applause from the other side. As for the Noble Ideas of the “Rules of War” or the gentleman’s way to fight a war, no such thing truly exists or has ever existed. The 1st World War was one of poison gas, flamethrowers, and brutal hand-to-hand fighting. The Geneva Convention or the now agreed upon rules of war by signatory nations only came about after the 1st World War. Minor truces have always been a thing between warring parties as there is general respect among people to bury the dead, but the idea that medics and aid parties should not be shot at only came about after the 1st World War in actual written conduct. Same with the treatment of prisoners of war.

Awesome reaction guys. x-mas truce were common in ww2 also. i know several happenings due to first hand witness before he died or secondary witness through books that even in the 24 december 1944 between two "hated" enemies Germany and Sovjetunion they held a truce the one im most sure about are in Livonia with Swedish waffen SS volunteers fighting against Sovjets. One soldier had an encounter of merciless storming of their positions just hours before by bolsjevik sapper units when suddenly it was an "official truce" 24 december 1944. The old man i talked to exchanged russian tobacco with german Glüwhein.

The law of war, also known as the Law of Armed Conflict (LOAC), still exists and is taught in basic training on up. For example, there are lawful and unlawful targets. In other words, just because you're a soldier in your country's military doesn't mean you get to just shoot whoever you want. A LOAC violation would be considered a war crime, punishable under both US and international law. There are also lawful combatants and what we call "unprivileged belligerents."
