My great grandfather lived long enough to tell us about his time in WW1. He was a major in the German army. He told us "I gave orders to never fire on Christmas day. It was the only orders I never regretted". Everytime I hear this song. I can't help think of him. He gave up everything to get him and his family out of Germany in 1932. He seen what was coming. I could never thank him enough.
remember this, and never let it be forgotten! Its precious! and tell your friends! Cause all around the word the fascists are gaining more and more influence! esp. in the US! Remember what your grandpa fought for in WWII!

Dude, seriously😂😭 I started tearing up when the bodies were flashing during the solo before the “we walk among our friends, we don’t think about tomorrow the battle will commence” Floor’s contribution is the chef’s kiss to put this all together.
Floor's husband is Hannes Von Dahl, the blond haired soldier that first walked up the ladder and onto the battlefield with his hands raised high above his head - Hannes is Sabaton's drummer
Yeah, naughty Floor was 32 when she swept him off his feet. Since Hannes and Floor are 9 years a part that make Floor a bit of a cougar. As far as I know neither has ever had any regrets in spite of the age difference. It must be meant to be.
That cross (now in stone) is still to be found in the village of Ploegsteert near Ieper (Ypres) in Belgium, amidst all the enormous cemeteries of WW1...
Hi Guys FYI The guy with the regular guitar is an Amazing singer. Tommy has his own RUclips Channel. He only plays the guitar with the band. Loved Floor's Outro
Tommy does backing vocals in Sabaton as well, just as all the other guys, even Hannes sometimes. Tommy also has his own band Majestica. He's just an all-in-one amazing musician. 😊
Yep a TRUE STORY in ww1 where opposing side's in a war came together exchanged gifts and PLAYED FOOTBALL & then went back to there trenches and the war commenced. My FATHER always told us this when we were kids he said people have very short memories NEVER FORGET. THIS IS INCREDIBLE BY SABATON. THANK YOU.
sabaton mostly sing about historical events, and they tell great stories with their music. they have a way to make you patriot for countries that may not even exist anymore, they really bring feelings out
Another tidbit: That is Floor Jansen singing in the background during the ending credits. She is married to Hannes - the soldier who first stepped out of the trench - Sabaton drummer.
Sabaton has another song about enemies coming together that is even more improbable, "The Last Battle ". The story behind this song is totally amazing. It's about American troops and members of the German Wehrmacht fighting TOGETHER at the end of WW2... (To get the full experience of this song, you really should watch the Sabaton history video first though.) And by the way, their song 40:1 live from Woodstock is amazing too (as you are Polish, I'm sure you have heard the story that that song is about ...).
Interesting that you mention World of Tanks. Sabaton actually partnered with World of Tanks. They even have their own tank in the game I believe. The company that made the game (Wargaming) actually helped produce some of their music videos. For example: Primo Victoria (not a very good music video though) and Bismarck (amazing music video lol) and Steel commanders (pretty alright music video)
For a little context, the lyric video for Primo Victoria is fine. The CGI/Live footage of Primo Victoria that World of Tanks did with Sabaton is good visually, but the sound feels a bit off. They mixed in explosions and tank sounds with the music, and since it was the first such video they did, it was not the best mix. As Neox says, the sound mixing on the later World of Tanks/Warships collaboration on Bismarck and Steel Commanders are much better.
This was my intro to Sabaton. I'd been meaning to listen to them for some time, it came up in my recommendations last Christmas and I was in the mood. Instant fan. Per carving 2021 hit hard because I'd recently learned that my country's soldiers were involved in war every year for 100 years after the end of WWI (and I'd guess that continues).
The first lines of the lyrics were written in 1914 by a young british trooper. Since you are polish, you should check "winged hussards", a very epic song.
Yes, it is based on a true event. The one day unofficial cease fire on the western front , December 1914. Dominika is correct, that was Floor's husband, drummer Hannes Van Dahl. Afterward , a lot of troops involved were moved to other areas because they didn't want to fight their new friends. And the Generals and other officers did everything they could to make sure anything like this never happened again. You're right, they never learn. All you have to do is look to Ukraine today. This was filmed in the Czech republic by people who usually make movies. No movies being made when the world shut down, so they had time for this.
The length of the cease fire actually varied, due to the spontaneous and unofficial nature of it. Some of them were only hours long, others lasted all day, a few places it even lasted *several* days. Some were just meant to bury the dead and there wasn't much socializing, others were like their own strange little Christmas parties with soldiers exchanging food, gifts (buttons from their uniforms were a pretty common one), a few places had the barbers from one side or the other cutting everyone's hair (including the enemy's), there were the famous soccer/football matches, etc. But unfortunately, in the end they still went back to the killing and dying no matter how long the truce lasted.
The cross shown in the video is a reproduction of the cross erected in Dixmuide in 1999 to commemorate the event. There is also a sculpture in Liverpool, displaying a british soldier and a german shaking hand above a football.
Would love to see your reaction to another emotional song by Sabaton En livstid i krig(Eng: A Life Time at War, Live in Gothenburg with English subtitles on) Being the individual perspective of a Swedish soldier during the 30 years war.
Great reaction. Yes, obviously some people never learn from wars. Basically all Sabaton songs are about real historical events and some of their albums are themed, like they now have two about WWI.
Guys, this video always makes my eyes tear up… thanks for your reaction. Europe had so many wars throughout history… I just hope the relatively long time of peace doesn’t end too soon! Sabaton makes history audible and visible, awesome! Greetings from Germany 👍🤘
The football match is legendary, there were so many along the front. In 2014, a Bronce Statue was presented in Liverpool, showing a british and german soldier shaking hands, with a football
better would be the music video first, then the live version maybe. the woodstock version is only good for the crowd reaction, you can barely hear the song.
To answer the question about Sabaton’s songs being all historical, yes they all are except for their old songs before Attero Dominatus. Also I recommend watching or reacting to Sabaton History about the song you react to.
One of my favorite works of art. Sabaton perfectly captures the brotherhood of arms that all of us who have served share. Every aspect of this is so beautiful. Floor's soaring vocals at the end is the cherry on top to make this song even more emotional.
What happened to these people afterwards? Some were executed for insubordination, many were moved to regiments that were to perform attackwaves (cannon food). For most it did not end well.
Yes this is a true story, there is a cross monument in Belgium for this event. It only happened the once I think, as the high command heard of it and forbid it from ever reoccurring. And yes thats Floor singing during the credits. They have a RUclips history Channel, Sabaton History. All there music is of historical true events.
Since Dominica has roots from Poland - it think it could be very interesting that Poland is where Sabaton has most fans overall! .....Even more than in Sweden (Sabatons home country). Please check out Sabatons legendary liveshow from Priestany Woodstock from 2012...with almost 600 000 in the crowd on the last day of the festival. It is just amazing!!! My favourite songs from that concert is "Ghost Division" and "40 to 1" ....The whole concert concertday ...from when the band is leaving from their homebase in the city of "Falun" in Sweden....to after the concert is actually to find on YT!...Like kind of a documentary
We have the "rolling" R in Swedish but Joakim deliberately exaggerates it when he sings in English. It has become his "style" or whatever. He doesn't sound like that when he just speaks in English. Joakim's mother is Czech and the video was filmed in the Czech Republic. As some people probably have mentioned earlier Sabaton have a history channel which explains the story for each song in more detail. For this song: ruclips.net/video/LJq64dF5ZfQ/видео.html

@@jolandavanlankvelt2674 ...and also in german....listens to Till Lindemann🤣... it is based on the "artist's German" from the theater stages of the 1920s.
@@jolandavanlankvelt2674 Is it sparsely used or only used in some specific dialects? I've never heard it in a Dutch conversation. I'd personally classify the Dutch "R" more as guttural (throaty) than rolling (tip of the tongue) and thus a little more similar to Danish than Swedish, Norwegian or Icelandic which have retained the old Norse pronunciation. Polish absolutely has a rolling R solely based on every time I've heard the word "kurwa" and so does for an example Italian but Dutch?
Little side note. After that day the soldiers morale was fucked, it was very difficult for them to fire upon the germans and vice versa. They'd gotten to know them, they suddenly had names and personalities and faces. They also probably realised they had way more in common with the germans than they originally realised.

All Sabatons songs are true historical facts, they are masters in storytelling. I guess most of swedes have that accent and use rolling RRRRs when speaking english.
The subtitles are translating Swedish. Thus the slight difference in wording. It is a true story. Correct Dominika. That is Floor's husband Hannes. The next day they went back to fighting. However, both armies replaced their soldiers. They thought it would be very difficult for these men to fight to the death against each other after this event. Real human stories of tragedy and hope! Even in the worst situations our humanity can reach out through all of the madness. Yes, almost all of Sabaton's songs are about famous military events. Did you recognize the familiar vocalizations over the ending credits? That's right! The queen herself.
The song is based on the truce in the first battle of Ypres (Ieper in Flemish) in Belgium (1914). The monument is still there (although renewed in 1999)🤓
Almost all of Sabaton's songs are about military history, yes. There are a very few which aren't but the vast majority are. Also, nothing to do with Sabaton but there was also a movie made about this very event about 17 years ago called Joueux Noel. It's a great movie and well worth watching.
As you already know, all Sabaton Songs are based on real events or persons. This really happend on 24th of December in 1914. The cross they showed in the video is real, its still on a field in Flandres
This actually happened on Christmas 1914 all over the front(but not everywhere of course), less so the following years because the generals forbade it. They also tried to keep it quiet and was not made public until after the war. They played football, sang and played instruments and shared food and drink
Great reaction as always. My ex wife who is a high school history teacher shows her students Sabaton videos sometimes. This one makes me emotional as well.

This is a well known point in history. There was a mutual cease fire on the battlefield for Christmas. The allies and Germans played soccer. Shared a day together. They are all humans. Then the killing resumed. It had to be that way and I'm sure everyone there knew it.
ALL their stories are real. You really should look at The Sabaton History Channel. There is an episode for most of the individual songs where the background is explained by a historian and a band member talks about the band's composition
You guys should watch Joyeux Noel, it's a French movie about the Christmas Truce. Very emotional movie Sainsbury did their 2014 Christmas commercial on this too with the British Legion. They made a special chocolate bar that season and dedicated all the sales to the British Legion
If you want to have a really good cry, you should check out Sabaton's song "The Ballad of Bull". It sounds nothing like the rest of their songs and I cry every time.
It don't always has to end with a tear because they can be such fun at stage so If you want to smile please react to their Red Baron live in Berlin (Great tour) Love your reaction, keep up the good work 👍
As a curious fact, both sides refused to fight against each other. After the high command found out about this event, they were replaced by other fighters.
As one of the comment points out, this was film in Czechia and Joakim (lead singer) has origins in Czech, so when you have been wondering about his accent and the pronounce "R" is from Czech language.
Well, actually Joakim (and the whole band) is from Sweden and they all talk Swedish. We have these R:s in Swedish, and he has a typical Swedish accent when he sings.
@@loevet2 Thanks for input, i know that Germanic based languages have this R think, but one, fact i have right is Joakim origin, his mother is from Czechoslovakia and he has Czech passport and even can speak bit of Czech, but Thanks for the language part.
This is a masterpiece. I hope you do Inmate 4859 too. Not the same category as Christmas Truce, but still a strong story needs to be told. And yeah, The Final Solution.
If you are interested in the history of their songs you can check out their channel called "Sabaton History" and they actually discuss the history behind all their songs. It is wonderful to gain context and understanding of what they are singing about.
and again a great reaction! This song is, in my opinion, one of the best of Sabaton! BISMARCK should also be at the top of your list ;-) I hope that you will also react to my other suggestions, even if they may not be suggested by many. Nevertheless, they are great songs that you should not have missed ;-) Kobra and the Lotus - Light me up/ Amaranthe - Burn with me/ Bad Wolves - Zombie (Cranberries Homage)/ Falling in Reverse - I'm not a vampire revamped/ Thank you very much and have a nice weekend to you! Greetings from Germany
I would say 95% of Sabaton songs are about specific events or historical figures , a few are more about a general theme like a few of my personal favorits, Swedish Pagans and Steel Commanders
i recommend you to try long live the king or some of the songs from carolus rex album, long live the king it s a very emotional song even if it s mainly form swedish history and so on
This song (and event) really shows that the people fighting are just humans just like you. The enemy is told the same as you: "The enemy is evil", the moment this believe is broken, most people don't want to fight anymore. After the Christmas Truce both sides moved a lot of forces around because the soldiers refused to fight. Some soldiers got punished for refusing to fight. Propaganda is important in every war, to make people want to fight. Whether it was 200 years ago or 50 years from now, every war depends on propaganda on both sides.
The people who produced this video normally work with Hollywood movies and are from Serbia. If I remember correctly, the singer Joakim's mother is from Serbia, he must have told that to a RUclipsr who he was interviewed by. If you want to learn more about Joakim and the rest of Sbaton, you can listen to this interview ruclips.net/video/zmMhdtUH5hw/видео.html
A reaction channel that actually watched to the end credits? What is this? (For context, most reaction channels cut their reaction at the bit with the cross and miss out floors vocal track at the end)
Thank you for a great reaction. I don't think you have reacted to Epica. They have many songs with serious messages. Their lead singer Simone has a gorgeous voice and she and Floor are friends.
Floor zong laste part of the song 🙏😉👍
Guys.. Ask them both to react to "En Livstid i Krig - LIVE - The Great Tour - Gothenburg" with English subtitles turn-on..
Probably one of the sadest their songs is "Price of a mile". Only reading lirics could make cry...
I love to watch ur Sabaton reactions since you seem to feel and understand the songs beyond the great metal music.
Floor Jansen is married to Hannes Van Dahl, the drummer of Sabaton! They have a daughter together, Freja Van Dahl!
My Grandfather was in the 1st World War and my father, my uncle Bill & my uncle Norman were in the 2nd World War, so Sabaton songs always hit me hard.
The melody is from The Carols of the Bells
Same notes but different order actually, except for the last two times in the song. 😊
Iam a new Sabaton Listener somtimes i Thing your Music with the sorrys are stuff for History Studens or High scool i like your ?Mussic and Story my Personal Favorit song is livetime of War . The swedish Version . See you 🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘
@@christophschmedes5975 I'm not the singer of Sabaton, I just happen to have the same first name. You don't want to hear me sing! 😆
@@jregns i am a new Sabaton Fan . I like your Music and Story s Somtime i Thing this is stuff for the History Student s ore High scool . My Favorit Sabaton Song is Livetime of War The Swedish Version . I hope you find more Storys . For your Musik . Best regards From North Germany 🤘 🤘 🤘 🤘
🤣🤣🤣
This is a well known point in history. There was a mutual cease fire on the battlefield for Christmas. The allies and Germans played soccer. Shared a day together. They are all humans. Then the killing resumed. It had to be that way and I'm sure everyone there knew it.
ALL their stories are real. You really should look at The Sabaton History Channel. There is an episode for most of the individual songs where the background is explained by a historian and a band member talks about the band's composition
its very emotional video..... next emotional video Sabaton En livstid i krig with english subtitles..... sniff saludos from Chile!
You guys should watch Joyeux Noel, it's a French movie about the Christmas Truce. Very emotional movie
Sainsbury did their 2014 Christmas commercial on this too with the British Legion. They made a special chocolate bar that season and dedicated all the sales to the British Legion
I love your personalities. Such a beautiful couple. ♥️ From 🇸🇪
If you want to have a really good cry, you should check out Sabaton's song "The Ballad of Bull". It sounds nothing like the rest of their songs and I cry every time.
It don't always has to end with a tear because they can be such fun at stage so If you want to smile please react to their Red Baron live in Berlin (Great tour) Love your reaction, keep up the good work 👍
I just found your channel a couple days ago. I really like your reactions. much love to you both!
They were elected ”Educators of the year” 2022, in Sweden.
Notice the piano intro and outro by Joachim is close to the "Carol of the Bells". Great reaction to a great historic video.
FYI - Sabaton just dropped a new animated story video for "THE RED BARON"
you are one of the few who saw Floor in credits
Another good story is the "En livstid i krig" live in gothenburg. Remember to put on subtitles for that video, you will have a suprise. 😊
If you are interested in the history of their songs you can check out their channel called "Sabaton History" and they actually discuss the history behind all their songs. It is wonderful to gain context and understanding of what they are singing about.
Floor is the wife of Hannes, the drummer of sabaton.
There is a photo of the football game.
Floors outro vocals are amazing and really cap off this masterpiece 🤘
I think i read somewhere that they hade to move the soldiers to other outposts/bunkers after that bc they did not want to shoot at eachother
They have a song about Polands famous Wingged Hussars and the seige of Viena.
and again a great reaction! This song is, in my opinion, one of the best of Sabaton! BISMARCK should also be at the top of your list ;-) I hope that you will also react to my other suggestions, even if they may not be suggested by many. Nevertheless, they are great songs that you should not have missed ;-)
Kobra and the Lotus - Light me up/ Amaranthe - Burn with me/ Bad Wolves - Zombie (Cranberries Homage)/
Falling in Reverse - I'm not a vampire revamped/
Thank you very much and have a nice weekend to you! Greetings from Germany
You all should give Sabaton's "soldier of Heaven" it is also another WWl battle against the Italians and austro-hungary in the Alps. Mount Marmolada
Oh my god. You know what is is about. Historylessons, As Sabaton says. : So this shit never happen again. I love it.
I would say 95% of Sabaton songs are about specific events or historical figures , a few are more about a general theme like a few of my personal favorits, Swedish Pagans and Steel Commanders
The Generals went uber nuts !!!1 Mankinds highest acheivment followed by its lowest !
i recommend you to try long live the king or some of the songs from carolus rex album, long live the king it s a very emotional song even if it s mainly form swedish history and so on
I think that cross is still there in a field in Ypres
If i may recommend an older song, "Fields of Verdun" would be a decent one in this theme and time period
Sabaton's singer Joakim (not me!) is half Czech, half Swedish. 😊
@@jregns So be it, you shouldn't comment early in the morning, the brain is half asleep then
@@ingvartorma9789 😆
You can check out the animated story video about this song and find out more🤘👍 alsow check out 40:1 live in Woodstock alsow about polish history.
Both sides thought the war was going be over by Christmas. I don't know if I could celebrate a holiday with someone who was trying to kill me earlier.
"World of Tanks" you said...?! *hehe* :D
Sabaton mostly writes about war and acts of heroism in war.
Please. They would make me very happy if they react to ‘’Muse - New Born [Live From Wembley Stadium]’’. I love your reactions. Thanks.
Here is the relevant Sabaton History video. True story: ruclips.net/video/LJq64dF5ZfQ/видео.html
One of my favourites is "Chasing the Dragon" live at Retrospect. They will also become one of your favourites. ruclips.net/video/Dx-FsHAQHp8/видео.html
Thank you!
