- Next video is make a shooting board & test cut
Steel : 3/16 (T) 1018 steel
The blade is skewed at 20 degrees to the sole.
Frog angle : 45 degrees
This Plane 15" long x 3 3/4 wide x 2 1/2(shoulder), It weighs about nine pounds.
Driving a flat head screw without even slipping once is a craft in and of itself.
It's good to see the master back in the shop. Though, I enjoyed the remodeling projects very much. Thanks for sharing your talents.
Your craftsmanship is pure joy to watch. I wish I had 1/10 the patients to do the things you do. Keep up the wonderful projects.
As a welder, just got mind blown by the way you work metal...
Hahaha, this is the old school way !! Still works as good as it did way back when!
As a lefty I appreciate this, holding tools etc, you always have to be mindful most tools, even a tape measure is really not designed for a left handed approach.. tilting table saws, routers, files..I get it but a left handed person has to worry about safety. Your push is my pull..it can affect my center of gravity and the tools.
This is the Ferrari of planner, beautifully crafted. A well deserved sub.
A joy to watch as always. An inspiration to us all.
I wanted to see some shavings :)
I've seen a lot of tools but never a better shooting plane. Thank you.
This plane looks like some kind of modern art :D
Another work of art. Look forward to seeing this used in the future 😊
Thanks for showing how and sharing that, well done!
I can't believe that there are 77 people who disliked this... great work sir
That is an enormous amount of highly skilled work - the results are simply fabulous. Great video - many thanks for sharing.
A lot of patience and a whole hell of a lot of talent
gorgeous. It would be great if the handle could swap orientation
I just found you and your work. Wonderful to see a fellow left-hander. After a lifetime of using right-handed tools and teaching public high school shop in a right-handed world I am making left-handed tools now for me to use. Your site and work gives me inspiration.
That thing has so much heft that you won't have to push it. You could just slide it and the weight alone would carry it through to make the cut. Nice work. And a nice work out!
As with all of your planes, truly exquisite. It took until now to realize you were left handed...
Ditto!
Me too, I guess that accounts for the artistic bent. Great build. I want to make one of the for me , Right handed though. :)
Metal dovetails! I'm impressed.
You really do some awesome work!
Very good, 👍
good, my brother💎💎💎👌👌🇮🇳🇮🇳
Beautiful piece of work many thanks Richard
Nice work! It never occurred to me that a shooting plane could be left-handed.
Beautiful work and a very useful plane. Thanks!
Seriously fantastic work!
Incredible. I've never seen hand-cut dovetails into sheet steel before. I was wondering how he was going to weld it without warping out of 90°. And then he starts peening the tails and my mind was blown
You should definitely binge watch his plane making vids.
Stavros Gakos makes some great planes as well. Here's a link to one of his beauties.

I just noticed you are left handed. Beautiful job
Beautiful!
At first i was along the lines of "why the flat blade screws" then i was " oh...genius". :D
Did they become rivets?
Finally another masterpiece. Beautiful & Fascinating !!!
You are still amazing Young Je! Excellent work my friend.
Thanks for sharing.
Fantastic build
it was cool to see your kitchen renovation, but I was really excited to see a new plane build. Excellent work as always. Owning a Young Je handplane is on my bucket list. Maybe I can trade you some CNC machining services for a hand plane one day.
I have never seen mortise and tenon done to join metal. He cuts metal like it's wood. Can you imagine his children who will inherit it and pass it down to generations to come.
Its actually a dovetail join but I get what you are trying to say. Its the sort of thing that happens when a woodworker teaches himself metal working and you get some interesting output!
@@stormkhan4250 Thank you for catching that!
The children will sell it on the estate sale for pennies
That was a well made tool, great to see you at it again.
You always do such beautiful work
excellent craftsman, beautiful work!
Superb!
Well shoot, another great hand plane video from you. Very nice indeed!
Wooooo.
Muchas gracias maestro Saludos 👍👋🇲🇽
What a beautiful beast! 😍❤️
A work of art
Tahts the best selfmade plane ever 👍👍👍👍
Really fantastic work, man... Beautiful! 😃
Hi, beautiful work. When you are embedding the screws in the plate you don’t countersink. Wouldn’t that give better holding than a thin rim of expanded screw neck? Great to see another southpaw “coming out” on you-tube. For years I couldn’t work out why using scissors gave me blisters on my hand until I realised that they were right handed and I was using them in my natural left. Well done.
That is Awesome👍 Beautifully Done Sir!
Wow!!!! Love it!!!
I love it! One problem, its backwards!! Haha. Great job.
Although it is a carpentary/joinery tool, it is also (in my eyes) a piece of art, I'd be happy just to jeep it in a lit glass cabinet, amazing,
He is holds a very unique place in craftsmanship.
Want a tool build a tool. (I very much respect that.)
Meine Herren... einfach nur WOOOOW !!!
I'm lost for words. Fantastic video sir je. I'd love to be able to purchase some of the tools you make but in the little rabbit hutch workshop I've got, I'd run out of space 😁
Great looking tool and great job building but I still have no idea what it's for
Enjoyed your video and gave it a Thumbs Up
'Shooting' is a way to fine tune the end of a board to get perfect miters or just very precisely trimming the end to length. It requires the use of a 'shooting board's which is a shop made jig. Tons of videos on yt on shooting if you want to get a better idea since words dont rly get the idea across.
wow - sehr aufwendige arbeit die du hier leistest - grüße vom federl. 👏🤘😎👍💚🍺🖖
🔥
Wow!
That’s an awesome plane, but I think it’s time for new gloves ;D
Very nice work 😊
Awesome!
That thing is a monster. How wide is the iron?
joli travail ça donne envie de faire de même
Have you ever thought about getting like a Patreon or something? I see a lot of things on your channel I never imagined, and I think it's worth money. I know I can't be the only one who feels that way because it's clear you're a master of masters.
Great master
Fantastico. Parabéns
Beautiful
You really need a mild steel hammer for hitting your tools...hitting hardened tools with a hardened hammer is not good and leads to your tools mushrooming like that which can in turn lead to you getting hurt from those tools....if you would like me to send you a soft mild steel hammer for hitting your hardened tool steel tools then please let me know and I will send you one soonest before you get hurt. Thanks for making another awesome video.
Beautiful as always! Honest question..doesn’t there need to be a chip breaker when the bevel is down?
What a cool design. Excellent video as usual! What type of steel did you use? Thank you!
See description above for steel type.
I think that you'll find that he's mixamatosis ! lol
👏👏
Pekny ! 👍👍👍
Amazing as usual. How did you pick the bed angle? Why not low angle?
In the same field, Looking forward to channel linking with your channel.
Instablaster
That’s really cool but why did you make it so damn big? That thing gonna wear you out using it.
Do you think a bevel down blade at 45 is optimal for endgrain shooting?
That is a beast. How thick a board will it plane?
looks amazing but how does it work?
Excelente video cuando lo ensayas ?
Best man
Ok we get it. You are showing of your grinder in a traditional way.
Fantastique. What kind of iron do you use for your deferent planes ? And thinkness ? Thanks
Thank you for sharig!
You are MASTER 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 the toll was beautiful. what steel do you use?
1018 steel, 3/16 thick. It's in the description.
Do you not weld the dovetails? You just hammer them?
Did not weld
@@YoungJe thanks for replying, your work is extraordinary.
Where do you get the hardware for this? Are you making everything?
Can i ask you mr je what metal you are using a blade
Love you work Young.
What grade of steel do you use for the planes?
Which steel are you using to make the blade?
On saura pas si ça fonctionne....
8:40 ... I'm shocked I tell ya... I never would have expected that ding on the drill table centre hole... 😂😂😂
Maybe its true... you aren't perfect ! 🙄
The house reno must be nearly complete to be back at plane-making... lovin the work , as always .. 🤗
😎👍☘🍺
