- French girl through-and-through, Jeanne Damas has just opened her own boutique and restaurant in Paris, realising a childhood dream. Vogue Paris took a guided tour of Rouje and Chez Jeanne to take a closer look at the lipsticks and dresses, taste the menu and get a few of the model's beauty secrets.

This store's-restaurant concept is great. I love this woman and her aesthetic and share her style of trends too.
In the comments some people says she's a cliché but actually I disagree. There are different french women and just like there are different british women. I personally relate to her aesthic and would definitely drop by to buy cloth and enjoy the food after a long walk.

I didn't know the shop only just opened back then. I visited around the 1st of November of that year. I remember it being very crowded that day. lovely boutique and restaurant!

I presume the main clientele that buys into the whole 'effortlessly cool Parisian' style, are foreigners who mythify French women. Those French Instagram designers are merely bringing those stereotypes and clichés to life in order to generate capital gains.
Reminds me a bit of the early establishment of Chinatown in San Francisco, where Chinese immigrants had to appropriate their own “culture” by generalizing and misrepresenting Chinese traditions and culture, as a means to survive. Put differently, Chinese immigrants had to recreate false conceptions of the East, interpreted by Westerners, hence the archaic architectures and settings, such as pagoda and dragon gates, which Chinese from Asia were not even too familiar with.
It's kind of a stretched out comparison, but I find it really interesting that humans are willing to make themselves more exotic than they really are.
Spot on I live in Paris and most women on the metro, hustling about and living their daily lives dress pretty crap lol and nothing like this facade. Most Parisian women earn crap salary's so can't even afford to stay on trend much less survive...
I think it depends who you hang out with, sorry I'm pisces, I tend to to see things in a grey area. please hang on til the end.
In every country there's different style, she might be representing a fake image for you but I can tell you that this is style isn't, maybe seen as "niche" but for example, I'm a french citizen, I'm from Nantes (close to britanny). People wear the mariniere (stripes jumper, tee) especially in summer. Some people might think the marinière is a stereotype but again it depends where you hang out, and with whom.

100%. I think back in the day (and tbh a lot of Americans probably still think this way) Americans exoticized other cultures both out of ignorance and as justification for war and invasions etc. But nowadays I think a lot of young Americans try to chase this romanticized vision of other cultures because we hate to see the American-led homogenization of much of the world and are wishing for a world where there's more variety across cultures - because it's beautiful. Even though it's bs and capitalism, I sort of appreciate this willingness to play into the fantasy because at least it's keeping a certain aesthetic and lifestyle - one that is boldly un-American - alive, even if only in our minds and online shopping carts. Idk lol.
There’s actually a whole theory around this. Usually subaltern nations are the ones willing to “exotify” themselves in order to create a symbolic leverage- exchange value even.

I live in Paris' (8th district)and there is so much inspiration in the streets with women that are opposite of Birkin Damas or is it Jane Jeanne? Anyway I can think of a handful of social media parisiennes that are nothing like the cliché or rather I say deguisé. The actual current style of most girls is Dr Marten Jadons, long herringbone wool coats, kind of like Hedi Slimane's Celine currently. Very grunge/dandy. Men and Women alike.

This girl got its fame by creating her first collection (Que guapa!) based in Spanish culture and Amenábar and didnt give proper credits and is still using it saying its french! Even saying in an interview in Spain that these famous french red lips where spanish inspiration and also the dresses style and patterns...but now she is saying that they weren't. So hypocrital! And she is still using some influences from Spain and saying is french LOL.
