Masculinity is something to be embraced. I was lucky enough to be raised with my grandfather as my prominent male role model, and he's from the Silent Generation. He's one of the few men who truly embraced what it meant to be a man in my life. He is a strong man, nearly 80 years old, yet runs around like he's 50. He follows that idea of being dangerous, yet controlling it. And he holds himself with an air that makes it so you can't help but respect him. And I didn't fully understand him until I became an adult, because I was raised predominantly by women so I was a bit more sensitive. But as time went on, I realized that every bit of tough love and harshness he gave me was because he wanted me to become the man he is. Not because he was a hardass, but because he wanted me to be better than him. And I'm finally reaching that point in my life where I fully see what his plan was and structuring myself after his example. He truly is one of the greatest men I know, and I'm glad that I have a role model like him in my life to truly show me what it means to be a man.
I feel the exact same thing about my father, maybe strange to you but i am a lot younger than him 45 years. A lot of times i didnt understood why he was the way he was, but now that im almost 30 i can see clearly that he Just prepared me to be like him, he Is a fucking beast
It's a story of a Teacher's response to a student who asks "You speak of peace as we learn to fight, how does this reconcile?" "...it's better to be a warrior in a garden than a gardener in..."
Don't try to be masculine, be masculine, be what you were meant to be. Don't think, don't try, simply be without fear and without doubt what you were always meant to be. And don't forget that we built practically everything that exists in our society, roads, buildings, technologies and all these accomplishments makes us very important and very smart, and we are not weak we never have been.
Be without fear? That's impossible. That's fake and will get you defeated quickly. Respect the situation and your opponent. Do your best to de-escalate, but be prepared if need be. Rogan's going about it the wrong way.
"It is better to be a warrior in a garden, than a gardener in a war." I also dunno who said that. Tbh a lot of these quotes are so old they've been misattributed to a hundred different people, nobody ever really knows for sure who said them first. It's always Lincoln, Churchill, or Bruce Lee lol. It's not a novel concept tbh, it has been around for ages. Jordan Peterson has talked about it a bit too as a more recent example. The idea that a good man must be capable of terrible things, but maintain that capability under voluntary control. If you're not capable, you're just going to get trampled the first time you are tested. if you are capable, but not under control, you're a rabid dog and will be put down sooner or later.
Man she knows is kimmy from North Korea. This ramble makes no sense to her I'm sure. She like moaning and probably rolling her eyes at this stupid rant
I am in my 70s, and Interesting; I had not heard Jordan's explanation before. @@PanCogitoX You are correct, I can see he is a collected fair conversator. People could learn from his way of talking to people. People need to realise that it is long form conversation and not an interview.

I'm masculine and build shit but I don't need to convince myself that men did everything good in the world in order to feel like I'm a man. I mean, we do start all the wars and blow everything up that we build, so yea, we better be building everything xD I definitely get you and agree with your statement. but bitching to women about other men's achievements is one of the least manly things you can you, and there is a lot of that going on with the new generation of "men".

I think you are looking at it from your own perspective and self assessment. It also depends on each person. For some people it takes too long for that fire to finally ignite. And for others it never does. Some would rather live their lives in constant submission. Just look at what happened in the middle ages. Unfortunately, the tables are turning and the weak minded and timid are starting to outnumber the strong. And the sad reality is that too many sheep and some wolves have to die before the sheep come to realization that they need to support the wolves in matters that they just don't have the mental or physical fortitude to handle.
A real girl doesn't want a weak-minded and passive man. A man needs to be a man when the moment arises. Does not mean you have to be a hard ass everywhere you go.
I learned over time people will say it’s okay to be weak and emotional just so they can use you as a stepping stone and keep you down so you won’t be a threat and that is a real problem in its self
They don't want strong masculine men, because it is strong men that can cause a truly successful revolution. Their goal is to keep the men emasculated and humiliate them if they try to embrace their masculinity.
i've never heard anyone say it's good for us to be "weak". Cry? sure. Crying is OK. Sometimes you need to let it out. I cry, at most, twice-maybe three times a year lol What i have heard more often, is how we should allow ourselves to be more vulnerable. Some guys can do it, some can't. I think the most important thing is having self awareness, killing the ego, and knowing how to handle/navigate your emotions. Emotional maturity is great
@@lavenderllamamusic Yeah, repressing emotions like crying, can morph and bleed very negatively into other areas of life, even for men. I personally will go cry in private, people will genuinely hold it over you, especially women however. Men must cry in private, it's important.
Emotions are not weak. A lack of knowledge of self is. A lack of control is. Strength is not being afraid to cry, to empathize. People assume that acknowledging what you feel is going to kill your ability to be resilient.

Break them down and build them back up, that's what the military does. You have raised soft kids that won't know how to deal once reality hits. LIfe is not meant to always be easy.
It's a great point. We don't want our children to suffer like we did, but equally it's important to realise we wouldn't be who we are without those hard times. Don't disadvantage your children by making their lives too easy.
"They encourage you to be triggered." So true! 💯 And, this mentality that victimhood is a virtue is destroying people's lives. @@mysteretsym You misunderstood my point. I was saying that being kind only is authentic when you could decide to be mean, but choose kindness. Because the weak man usually chooses kindness only because he isn’t threatening. If you only choose kindness because you are weak, and you don’t have any “teeth” in a sense, then it’s not really kindness. At that point, it’s your only option, so that people don’t hurt you. Make sense? It’s like are being kind for the wrong reasons. I believe in the teachings of Christ. The kindest person to ever live. And so I strive to be kind as well. But that isn’t what I’m talking about. If you watch Jordan Peterson’s video on “the meek inheriting the earth” you will know what I mean. Sometimes aggression can be kind in the long run.
It's strange that more people don't recognize this truth. I grew up in soft times. I've never known hunger or lack. And I can see the weakness it's bred in me. The lack of motivation, the fear, the confusion. But because I recognize it, I can take steps to change it. I can't imagine just staying that way, or even worse, thinking it's a virtue and actually making decisions that affect other people from that place of weakness. Scary.
Likewise mate. Its almost like a humbling epiphany of self realization. You get the keys to the kingdom on that day my friend. Best of luck on your life, and journeys. You're the only comment my brain has thought before word for word. Figured I'd drop some friendly encouragement that you're on the right path. 👏
The fact that you've realized your weakness is actually a show of strength starting to manifest within you .Good luck on your journey ..it will take years but at end of it you will be become a better version of your current self.
Well said. I have had (essentially) the exact same self-realization over the last few years. Sporadically I will force myself to do hard things, uncomfortable things, scary things, or just things that are flat out the opposite of my day to day mode of operation. Example, the other morning I didn’t touch the hot water knob. Cold (very cold) showers are brutal during them, but once you get through them, you feel so alive….and really appreciate that hot water. If you had ever asked me anything about showering, the water temperature, etc, I would have had no answer, no thoughts on the subject, nothing to add. But since making myself do such a simple thing like cut out the hot water, I see how advantageous it can be to do such a simple thing. All of that to say, I am currently examining myself to find the areas that need shoring up…there are more than I’d like to admit. At least I have started the (slow) process. Eventually I will be counted amongst the non-softies.
Showing weakness is strength. That is what is missing in his statement. If you cry it doesn't mean you're a loser or you're a "pussy". It shows that you're willing to show emotion and try to communicate what's going on in your mind.
48 and ripped, 25 years of fitness success, 26 years of marriage, 4 kids, business owner, strong faith..etc, In these days for as many people I am told I motivate them, there are many that I am told complain about me, avoid me, don't like me. Ms. Park's book "In Order to Live" is one of the best reads you will ever find about how truly incredible freedom is, and how strong humans yearning to be free can be. Aside from the insight of life for a typical North Korean (which is rare to find by itself), the power of imagination and the way she overcame tragedy after hardship is so inspiring.
Now, to balance the hard and soft. I found through teaching classes on family life in a prison one of the most empowering things for a man and his family is to see that there are limits and it is healthy to be vulnerable and shed tears, with the right timing.
VULNERABILITY ISN'T WEAKNESS. Being afraid of ourselves, of life, of truth, of our potential, others, and then indulging in those fears, defending them and making excuses for them, that's weakness. Not being honest with ourselves, letting fear win, that's weakness. Opening ones heart, risking ourselves to feel, have faith, love and be loved, that's strength. Crying doesn't signify weakness or strength, crying can be beautiful and vulnerable; it can also be pathetic and indulgent.
A man should only cry if something amazing in his life happens like winning a championship or getting their dream job or diploma or their kid does something great etc. OR if someone in his life dies or has something horrible happen to them......
Everyone needs someone to be vulnerable with, but choose them wisely. Today vulnerability with strangers is promoted, and every time it causes problems people try to fix the world. It cannot be fixed, but you can learn to live in it. Scammers are gonna scam. Trolls are gonna troll. Thieves are gonna thieve. Tyrants are gonna consolidate power. It's our job to fight back and overcome them, not to engineer a world where they cannot exist. Such is a dystopia.

You are weak.... You are looking for affirmation..... 😂
Let’s be honest she has a divine voice I couldn’t concentrate on joes speech thanks to her 😂
Masculinity is something to be embraced.
One of the greatest men you know, after you admit that you don't know many men.
My grandfather was the same way old school he's what a man should be his family was his world

There’s a great saying that goes “ it’s better for a warrior to be in a garden than a gardener in a war” god speed to all strong men.
No kidding. He just said it in the video.

Better than Rogan's opening lines. I love soft times, if ur a hard man, soft times won't weaken you.

All this talk about hard, soft, garden, etc, now I want tacos
Don't try to be masculine, be masculine, be what you were meant to be. Don't think, don't try, simply be without fear and without doubt what you were always meant to be. And don't forget that we built practically everything that exists in our society, roads, buildings, technologies and all these accomplishments makes us very important and very smart, and we are not weak we never have been.
“Don’t think, don’t try “ yeah we’re there now
Be without fear? That's impossible. That's fake and will get you defeated quickly. Respect the situation and your opponent. Do your best to de-escalate, but be prepared if need be. Rogan's going about it the wrong way.

It's not a novel concept tbh, it has been around for ages. Jordan Peterson has talked about it a bit too as a more recent example. The idea that a good man must be capable of terrible things, but maintain that capability under voluntary control. What i have heard more often, is how we should allow ourselves to be more vulnerable.

I only wish the video showed the context of who he is saying this to... He is absolutely correct, and she completely agrees. She being who she is also very important to the message. Yeonmi Park, a North Korean Defector...Her life is an awesome story, and should be an inspiration to us all about realities on the global scale.
The MSM should be ALL over her story, yet...not.
Speaks volumes.
True. Yet theres somehjing odd about North Korea. It's almost like it's a banana Republic set up by the very people who deem it 'bad'.
Kim or whoever that president he went to a Swiss school avd he uses Apple phones...
Lolol. As if..
@@BrotherPatriot Maybe you aren't looking very hard. Her story has been covered by journalists all over the nation and world.
Sooo...you are saying the American MSM is covering her story and promoting how bad communism is...?
That...I doubt, since our MSM is complicit with much that is going wrong in America.
@@aaroncurtis2089 who is she or whats the episode #?
I was about to complain about his guest lack of engagement, but she gave him space to articulate a great dialog, so..
It's a 2 min clip.

I thought she was a blow-up doll until she started talking at the end.
A solid virile man: a Man who is calm, good back posture (this avoids back problems when getting older), humble, polite, who knows how to manage his anger, knows how to listen, knows how to say no with finesse.
The phrase “ Only the Strong survive “ has a much deeper meaning than most realize!!
Best piece of advice. You can be strong and still be kind.
She sat there and listened the whole time didn’t say a single word till the end and when she did speak it was aligned with the point Joe was making and further solidify the fact that she understands what he was seeking to portray that’s effective communication skills 101
Robots be getting good these days right!? 😂 of course she listened and responded like an intelligent human. 😅
this was one of the most boring episodes ever.

Better to be a warrior in a garden than a gardener in a war.
Still my favorite JRE episode. It's extremely rare we get to hear an inside-perspective on the horrors taking place in such regions. We've all heard the stories, but hearing it from the tree itself just makes it that much more eye-opening.
It’s a good one. Really makes you appreciate little things we take for granted

“It’s better to be a warrior in a garden, than a gardener in a war” that was a mmmmmm moment
@@wtfdowecreate8165 It's fine to be vulnerable if you're strong enough to prevent others from taking advantage of it.
Indeed. That is the BEAUTIFUL thing about Ex-Navy Seal/CIA Operator Shawn Ryan's podcast. He ALWAYS has compelling, amazing people on and they discuss heavy topics. Just like Joe, Shawn has an insanely good length to watch ratio because of things like this.
Seals, Green Berets, Delta Guys, FBI, etc., Historical men, strong guys showing their human side and admitting they need help and it's okay to ask for it.
If you haven't watched Shawn Ryan, look him up on RUclips and watch any of his. The one with Cody (former Marine Raider) is a really good one
I met this awesome man at a UFC Fight!!! Easily one of my favorite people of all time!!! Love You Joe! You continue to inspire me with Your character, personality and Truth!
@Brandon Finch says gay fucks only
@Brandon Finch everything in moderation.
However, Joe loves meat, it’s nothing to do with sponsorship but if that helps you get to sleep at night keep believing 😂
He said you need a military. Look at all the countries in the world being invaded by us. I mean China. 😬
Any idea who the guest is?
@Brandon Finch um, no.. haven't you ever heard that depending on the location of your ancestors and what types of food they had available to them in their region is what's going to work best with your body?! I've known people who could not handle plant-based diets.. every person's body is different. Sounds to me like you're the one trying to push your ideas and beliefs onto others. Joe has always talked about the consumption of red meat, long before his podcast, so not sure what you're talking about with "sponsorships" but he got sponsored BECAUSE of his beliefs 🤦🏻♀️
Plus, you really think if people decide to change their diet to mostly meat that he's going to profit from it somehow? 🤔 What an odd thing to say.
"it's better to be a warrior in a garden than a gardener in a war" I like that I'm going to use that.

So true. Everyone has their individual strength, it just takes effort to find it. Too many people want strength & power but are not willing to go through the motions!

I was weak once I think living in the western country in my late teens until mid twenties had something to do with that. I came back to my native country (third world country) paid the price of being weak faced tough consequences as there is not much "safety net" like developed nations. Built myself up mentally & physically. Never going back to be weak again. I would rather die than being weak. Man = strength !!
What country did you go too

Interesting to have watched Joe Rogan grow in wisdom over these past few years...he is one of my favorite people. His message here is 110% correct and I am REALLY glad he's saying it loud , clear , bravely...and proudly as well !!
Better to be a warrior in a garden, then a gardener in a war....lovely and deep
Makes sense to me...
You know, there is a crazy idea of being both. Imagine an image of masculinity where the same hand that can clear a battle field can also nurture a garden.
Tu Lam, Ronin Tactics says that too. He's a retired US Army SOF guy.
I love this, "Be a worrier in the Garden"
So good from Joe to let his guest speak like a good host
Toothpaste Man,
Thank you for sharing your wonderful story and experience you had with your grandfather.
We call men like your grandfather.
Men of Honor.
I am a 61 year old 3rd generation U.S.Naval Military Veteran. 🇺🇸 You hit it on the nail when you said your father walked with a sense of confidence and respect. This trait and level of honor and respect is something one earns with experience and hard knocks. One cannot buy respect.
One cannot fake honor.
True men of Honor can see honor in other good men. 👍
Yeonmi Park is a treasure and the way she speaks out against wokeism and modern Western leftism should have us all paying attention.
