Found your video very helpful; I used the paint tape to surround the old peephole and carefully used the X-acto knife to cut the paint around the old one. Instead of using two screwdrivers or the channel lock, I used a sturdy paint scraper to set into the two notches. The scraper was long enough to fit across both notches & it was easy to unscrew the old one out by turning the paint scraper counterclockwise.
Unfortunately, my new peephole is bigger than the old one and while I have the right drill bit to make the hole slightly larger the drill bit doesn't fit into my drill. My son promises to help get the bit usable so I can finish up this amazingly easy task.

This deserves a thumbs up just for being honest about having the wrong size replacement. That's how these things always seem to go in real life anyway.
Peepholes come in two sizes 14mm and 16mm. You measure the dimensions of the internal viewing hole to find out what size you already have
I did the same thing. I just use a washer to cover the hole on the inside.
Sorry this didn't work out but the I get the gist. At least now I know these peepholes come in different sizes. Thanks for the upload!

For the screw driver part, I used a chisel head and it worked perfectly!
You can also use a metal paint scraper instead of 2 screwdrivers (I installed and removed a peephole knocker before)
You can also used a 2 inch chisel.
Use a 25 cent quarter. And turn the quarter with pliers. Works great
Basically how not to install a peep hole.

Sorry for your expense, but thanks to your efforts, I know how to remove my old one, measure it, and then purchase a new one.
Tried the paint scraper, tried two screwdrivers on the same end of a multitool. Watched this video. Tried vice grips; not enough material on the flange to grip; too much paint built up by previous owners. Outer end is beveled; no purchase at all. But thanks for the idea.

Also a few days later it hit me, I used a butter knife to tighten, but again thanks to your video I was able to remove it!

yes but it might not look great unless you know what you are doing
Are they all the same size if I want to replace my peep hole?
peep holes are a few different diameters.. you really need to know the size of the hole in the door.. or you can buy the different sizes and then which ever is wrong can be returned.. have fun with your peep hole
I did the same as you, however the peephole wouldn’t come out. It just turns and turns do you know what that means?
