I am a black women and I am all for defending your wife and family by all means, but I also believe you are more of a man to protect and defend your family in a mature fashion. Being hurt by someone’s words is never an exception or excuse justifiable to be violent, ever.

@@quynhd.2334 snapping is still not an excuse for violence, especially cause it’s a very common thing for abusers. As a society we have to make sure to condemn violence on every way shape or form to make sure that people get protected. And I agree that words can be violent as well, but reaction to violence with violence is really bad and shouldn’t be promoted.

I love Will, but he was totally in the wrong and I hate to see people praising violence as the only acceptable way to defend someone’s honor. The ability to deescalate a situation has always been a greater sign of strength than the ability to escalate. I think we should be echoing the sentiments from Will’s apology about his behavior being out of line and not indicative of the man he wishes to be, instead of looking for some false valor in what he did.

I'm also shocked that Loni, as a comedian, would side with Will. Is she saying that if she made a joke what didn't land that she would be ok with an audience member coming up on stage and slapping her? And the fact that they didn't even consider that maybe Chris Rock (like Adrienne) had no idea that Jada had alopecia really shows that the narrative was already decided. Really disappointed in both of them.

I know I’m late watching this clip and commenting but… It might be time for this show to end. This was very pro violence for how anti-violent they’re trying to be. Like basically condoning Will’s actions while calling Chris out? Y’all want to give Will grace but don’t want to give Chris the benefit of doubt, like what if he doesn’t watch red table talk or follow Jada on Instagram l, what if he really didn’t know? You can defend your wife in far better ways than hitting someone. And then in his speech he said “love makes you do crazy things” that’s an abusers excuse, and y’all want the assaulted person to apologize? Y’all want the victim of the situation doing his job as a comedian to say sorry you hit me cuz of my tacky joke? I can’t. Why is Garcelle the only one who is firm and making true statements? These ladies response was very spineless and very cringy and we are doing a disservice to black people by defending violence against another black person. Loni brought up how white people are offended but I dare say they were the only people treating the situation like one human being assaulted another human being for doing what they’re paid to do. This was uncomfortable to watch, thank god for Garcelle.

Garcelle - congrats on maintaining your convictions. Will Smith acted like an immature child - proving he has learned nothing from the major roles he has depicted. Even Serena looked annoyed when Will was trying to use her father’s life story to find parallels to his foolishness. The joke was tacky, but did not warrant a slap. Hollywood is so white. It’s so many talented black actors, actresses, producers, directors, who will never get a chance to even reach half of what Will Smith accomplished. I am a nursing student, and I don’t get to snap on my racist patient. I don’t get to snap about the one that throw me glasses, pills, the one who scream, yell at me insult me. I’m very disappointed in Jeannie, she was not like that before. She was really a «violence isn’t the solution, let’s talk» person. It was a big night for POC and now look that’s all we remember from it. Will and Jada are not the only ones struggling at work. I’d take insults for their salary as I do it now for way more less.
The Oscar’s is work…it’s not private event.
    They are at work.
    Chris was wrong yes.
But I’ve lost total respect for Will.
The joke was bad but the violence was worse

I didn't even think the joke was bad. GI Jane was a true badass. Jada looked great.
But to make a spoiled and entitled personality of Jada Pinkett Smith as the representation of black women everywhere is nauseating to me. Black women do not sleep with their son's friend and embarrass her husband on live TV.
Not one person is affording the pain of Chris and the women in his life who have to live with their father being humiliated.

But the question becomes, what happens when you snap.... Do we crucify you or what? I wonder

Still don't understand how Chris is wrong for making a comparison to Demi Moore being a strong bald beautiful woman in this movie everyone is making it about alopecia but forgetting about the g.i. Jane movie

I don’t think people understand how traumatizing it is for children to witness their parents cheating. Parents think the problem is just between them. It really isn’t. When you participate in infidelity you ruin and hurt your whole family. Kids aren’t stupid, they realize it before your partners.
