Will stood up, interrupted a whole show, assaulted a man over a joke, went back to his seat, swore at him, got coddled by his Hollywood friends, won an award, made a speech, and got applauded. I can't even fathom that kind of privilege.
I know right. Anybody else would have been thrown out and arrested immediately. I'm getting another O.J. feeling here. A rich popular guy doing whatever he wants and nobody does anything. Hell, Will got a standing ovation. After this, I don't want to hear Hollywood saying sh*t about anything political, or talking down to anybody because of their 'pro-right' views. They have proven for all time, just how cowardly they really are.
Look at the producer putting the blame on Chris for why Will wasn't escorted out. I said before just because Chris didn't want Will hauled out in cuffs by LAPD on live TV doesn't mean the Academy shouldn't have escorted Will out by security. Will Packer as a hired individual doesn't see he's going to be the Academy's scapegoat. They are lucky Chris isn't suing the Academy for perpetuating an unsafe working environment. It had to be stressful to remain there while his assailant was comforted in the mist of a breakdown, given an award and praised like a king with that standing ovation.
He was saved back then but it looks like now from everything we are hearing in the News and RUclips that Will may be in a lot of hot water with his close friendship with P Diddy and others.
@@theres1dentseems a silly rule that - in the U.K. because of the overwhelming tv evidence the police/crown prosecution could have charged Will even if Chris didn’t cooperate. This way you can get around potential witness intimidation etc.
I said Chris will end up thanking Will.....Chris is gonna and has already come out of this the bigger man....Kudos Chris, although a part of me wishes you had hit him back, at the end of the day your looking good and Will Smith not so good
It should have been Packer’s call to remove him, not Chris Rock’s. He’s responsible for the show. Rock was still in shock, unfair for Rock to shoulder that.
Nailed it. Packer just wants to look good and shift the responsibility to Rock. But HE’s the director. HE should have taken action. HIS presenter was assaulted. Accountability, owning and making hard decisions is something that is super rare these days with too many people. But I’m afraid in this day and age Packer’s disastrous handling of the aftermath will go without consequences, heck with how woke Hollywood is he may even get another shot at it.
At *2:00**,* he first laughed, but then his wife did not laughed and it was not funny. Until, he goes up onstage and slaps *Chris Rock* because *he made a joke* about his wife *Jada Pinkett-Smith’s alopecia look.*
@@JakeLlavoreThen his wife came out all over the internet and said they weren't even married and hadn't been for awhile and she had no clue why he would do that. She is far from a class act.
The laugh was chess play he got everyone to drop their guard once that happened. Will moved like a real G (they move in silence)... that laugh got him on stage without being stopped better recognize...
@@SJ-vb3tg Or are having sympathy for a guy going through MASSIVE emotional stress right now, and took thier lead from the ONLY guy who had the right to make the call....the man assaulted.
Whether to press charge against Will Smith is up to Chris Rock, but whether to remove a violent person on the scene is up to the Academy. The Academy didn’t do their job.
they actually don't need chris to press charges; it's the state of cali vs. will smith; the da could have handled it it's that simple.. it was assault and everyone saw it..
exactly thats why he using chris rock as the scapegoat, chris never said he didn't want him removed all he said was he didnt want him arrested, now when the heat really comes down he can say well i took chris not wanting him arrested as chris saying he didn't want anything at all done.
I have 3 brothers in-laws the same, all their wives sleep around and do not love them. This world have men that should are in 3rd class humans we know them as B*tches.
Watching this relationship over the years, it seems like a form of domestic abuse where one party gradually wears down the partner's confidence to where he'll substitute her judgment and perspective for his own and buy into her low opinion of him, to where all he wants is her approval. Which by withholding it she keeps control. The man is worth a quarter of a billion dollars ... he should find a woman who values him for his intelligence, talent, and kindness. When he slapped Chris Rock? I blame her.
One good thing came out of this, Chris Rock has become the embodiment of professionalism and dignity. How many people could continue doing their job without missing a beat after a physical and verbal assault like that?
The speed at which Chris Rock's mind worked that night, and I'm sure must on a daily basis, is astounding. His control over his emotions, keeping his ego from erupting, all while still cracking jokes ... Glorious.
This feels like blaming the victim. I’m sure Chris didn’t want to be the one responsible for throwing Will out. The people in charge of the show should’ve done something
Yea, this whole interview sounds like damage control where the Oscars are trying to say "we did everything right but Chris stopped us". Even by saying the joke wasn't in their approved script is saying that he did it to himself
No, that is allowing the victim to have a voice and have final say. If they ignored Rock's requests, not leaving him in control, that would have been disrespecting him as much as Smith did. Rock is a grown man. He was most affected. Of course he should have the biggest voice and call in how it was handle out of respect for him and what he endured.
@@christinew1981 yeah well there an interview with luella on hear and the lady who channel it is says she is friends with this guy and she called him right after and he said will heard chris rehearsing this joke backstage.ruclips.net/video/YNmjSZzJ0z4/видео.html
No one consoled Chris Rock. He was in shock & trying to contain the event. The academy should have done the right thing & asked Will to remove himself & if not remove him by force. Someone should have done the right thing & not put more heat on Chris Rock to make the decision in front of the world.
I’m a producer. This producer did not do the right thing. He didn’t need chris’s (the victim and his employee - not a friend in this scenario) permission to arrest Will (a guest - not a friend in this scenario). Chris was not in charge of the Oscar’s - he was. The fact that he let this go based on the employee’s feelings to guest relationship showed he’s a weak producer. He showed the world he don’t know how to handle violent issues properly under his command and he can’t separate friends from work. This isn’t a fight in his home between the two of them - this was a slap in front other guests in a place that was not his, in front of tv that broadcasted over the world, which he do not own. His job was to keep all this employees and all his guests mentally and physically safe. He failed.
I agree. This producer's behavior was absolutely unacceptable. He said he advocated to keep Smith there after talking to the victim? Unbelievably unprofessional and dangerous.
I guarantee you’ve never produced the Academy Awards but please enlighten us and tell us what you would’ve done and furthermore what you would’ve done, knowing he was going to win, when they announced best actor and you just had the award recipient arrested? All while never having faced this before and knowing you were the first black person to produce the awards and would forever be judged by your actions.
You're absolutely correct!!! The onus is on the Oscars, i.e. this producer who should've stepped up to the plate and taken full responsibility for what happened and not lay it at the victim's door. This was not a private party at someone's home between the two parties involved - this was public!
If he was in charge on of the Oscar’s why was he not involved in the conversation where they decided Will should leave. They did not tell him anything and we all know why
I used to be a huge Will Smith fan. His role in "Collateral Beauty" was amazing. It cemented me as a huge fan. Now I cannot watch his movies. I tried to watch "Emancipation" and could not get past 5 minutes. The fact that he was not arrested and given a standing ovation blew my mind. I've always been a fan of movies and Hollywood, while my conservative family and friends always considered Hollywood to be a bunch of phony, self-absorbed pricks. I always let my admiration for their talent guide me. Maybe my conservative friends were right after all. It will take years for me to ever give Will Smith my time and money, if ever.
G get over yourself I'm quite sure he don't give a you-know-what anyway I'm quite sure he has more than just one fan like you please really and all the rest of the bulshit😮
I don't condone what he did; he was wrong. But, if you knew about the things that your favorite entertainers said/say, did/do, used to think or still think; you'd have to give up consuming all entertainment. Who else have you written off as a source of entertainment because of what they've done or said? I'm just curious, that's all. Take care.
@@La-wr5dn I can't think of many situations like this. Will Smith was beloved. I know I was a huge fan of Jada after "Collateral" but her entitled, spoiled behavior has ruined her forever. She is despicable. I'll give this some thought but right off the top of my head I can't think of anything right now. I am a huge Alec Baldwin fan but I have yet to really understand his role in the death of his director on the western movie set. If it turns out he had an active role in relaxing the gun safety protocols on that set, I probably will have a problem.
That would have been a powerful message. It's a little disturbing that Chris Rock is being called a hero, in part, for not pressing charges or wanting Smith kicked out. It sets a bizarre expectation for victims of violence to not press charges in order to gloss things over for everyone else. I'm not saying that Rock did the wrong thing, but it seems off to call that particular decision heroic. Either way, the joke was funny and not that harsh at all.
@@jacqueeelle6287 Chris took the high road. He still kept Will in mind , the audience, the oscars, viewers etc Chris Rock is a CLASS act and handled it like a total boss 👏
@@ZeroFcksGven I think I was pretty clear that I'm not disputing that. Like I said earlier, I'm not judging what he did, I admire how he handled the entire situation. The concern is how his decision is being perceived. For some people, pressing charges is the only way to stand up to bullies. People might be pressured out of choosing that option because Chris Rock is considered a hero for not pressing charges. Bullies and non-bullied people will find every reason for a victim to keep the status quo.
Spiritual? Like ghosts and here but not really here? Award? Stop with these trigger words y’all are using all over the internet. He’s the bigger MAN.PERIOD.
Nah he was the bigger man at the end, but he went off scripted, I’m sure they would have never approved that in a script. Especially due to the stuff they both have been going through.
A year later: Rock's done his first public set about the incident. Throughout all of this, he's made The Best choices to walk tall & use his head. Mad respect & props to the ultimate professional &comedian, Chris Rock.
Chris Rock didn’t want Will Smith removed from the awards show or he didn’t want the police to take him to jail? Perhaps the producer misunderstood and that part needs to be clarified. His removal from the show should not depend on Chris alone but rather the academy themselves who knew he broke conduct.
Exactly...the man stunned from the slapped at the time... the academy trump rock decision...its not like he was a minor seeking his permission ....they should have acted right away...gtfooh will packer...now he's backtracking and second guessing typical narcissist...bringing attention to him now so called breaking silence
They’re probably thinking it’s more complex considering Chris rock went off script. He didn’t really have to come after Jada like that so the producer is probably a little more hands off at that point and putting it on Chris because he’s the one who said what he said. I bet you if it was on script, it would’ve been looked at differently. It definitely would not have fallen on Chris it would’ve fallen on the writers and more of the Academy. This was strictly between the two men. Chris rock didn’t want Will Smith removed from the show, nor did he want the police involved. He just wanted to show to go on.
The decision to remove ANYONE who just assaulted a performer on live television should NEVER be up to the person who was just assaulted. The assault IS the self-made decision to be automatically removed, arrested, and booked.
Chris Rock displayed what real men do. Controlled his emotions and not act on them and acted like a true adult with common sense. I respect him so much because I would like to think I would act the same way but I don’t if I can.
Regardless of Chris’ request to let it go and not press charges, the Academy’s responsibility was and is to hold Will accountable for his disgusting behavior. Do the right thing Academy and have a spine. No matter how much Will and Jada try to justify, causing bodily harm and verbal abuse is unacceptable.
this guy thinks he slick, he knows it was their responsability to remove will. once again chris is being used and the scapegoat. he never said he didnt want him removed, he said not arrested. now if chris comes out and says i didn't say i didnt want him removed, this guy will claim i thought thats what he meant when he said he didnt want him arrested, this guy didnt want will to leave bc he knew it was his first oscar and he resects will more.
That’s one cool way to pass the responsibility to the victim. After being hit and humiliated they wanted Chris to make a decision while recovering from said humiliation AND still doing his job as host…
This is a an example of how out of touch with reality and what a warped sense of right and wrong is so pervasive in the entertainment industry. Any regular citizen would have been arrested removed and charged whether the victim would have pressed charges or not at a later date would be discussed. Will Smith definitely got a get-out-of-jail-free card with all of his friends giving him a standing ovation! My entertainment dollars will now be spent elsewhere
Good thing Will has hundreds of millions of dollars & generational wealth to help him recover from such an embarrassing moment. The random strangers on the internet attacking him are definitely getting to him.
For all of the people who loosely, slanderously, and falsely throw around the term “privilege” on a daily basis… THIS is what privilege truly looks like. No accountability, actions, or consequences taken against Will Smith. Pathetic.
@ Kevin M, and many/some, it is always about White privilege.....but, this is Blacl privilege....in it's highest form.....to assault and then still sit on the front row.....is some awful crap.....
It’s crazy how Chris Rock embodies the character Will Smith pretended to have. I used to admire Will but he’s all words. Rock’s stature is 100 times greater. Actions over words all day.
Will is 100 percent words. So is jada. There are videos out now showing what they said in the past as for will he said he doesn’t respond to hate with violence but he responded with violence from a joke by one of the best comedians alive. And Jada had said she embraces her bald head and she loves it days before the academy awards so all this is a bunch of bs. They are both fake people and still have a lot of growing up to do. And their in their 40’s? They are so cringe
Chris was the classiest person in the room. He demonstrated that he was way more of a man than Will Smith. He kept his cool, didn’t retaliate. Will Smith destroyed his image and reputation in less than a minute. It was disgusting that he sat down and enjoyed the rest of the evening.
This hurts me to my core. They allowed Chris Rock to be a victim of assault just to “save” their precious show? Had it been a woman up there what would have happened? Disgusting. And then giving Will Smith a standing ovation for his performance? Sickening and shameful.
@@mepulley7913 No she don't. When she started the bs about alopecia, a few years ago, folks with severe alopecia and cancer patients pulled up several seats for her to have. British actor Daniel Kaluuya and American singer H.E.R., who both won big at last year’s Academy Awards, appeared onstage together early in the night to present the award for Best Supporting Actress. As the two black stars walked onto centerstage, an instrumental version of Toto’s “Africa” was played in the background, sending social media into a frenzy. 🤣🤣 what the hell is happening to this world lmao 🤣
Do not leave the call up to the one who was assaulted, especially minutes after it occurred. If I was Chris I would have said the same thing. As a victim you're thinking of diluting the embarrassment, making people believe you are fine, making others comfortable. These are classic thoughts. Fine, can't press charges. But that took place in the academy's house, streaming to families around the world, witnessing a blatant act of unprovoked violence. Comedy clubs wouldn't let someone do that and stay because it sets a tone for what's permissible - they should have REMOVED him.
Will Smith’s behavior was appalling. He was abusive and arrogant about it. When he walked off stage looking proud of what he did, was totally disgusting.
If Will had been arrested live on the oscars, that would’ve been the greatest night on television. Instead, we saw him receive a standing ovation after his assault, as he accepted his best actor award. That in itself made it one of the worst nights on television. Jim Carrey said it best, “Hollywood is spineless.”
why LAPD does nothing when there are people looting shops in broad daylight??? or people is stabbed at their jobs??? ... Mr Rock has been having fun with Jada, her marriage, his kids, his ex wife, her health for the last 6 years... when enough is enough??? Smith can still act, be nominated and win oscars, he just won´t be able to vote or nominate films as a member of the Academy... 2 men go to Las Vegas and have a boxing match, and one kills the other or leaves him with brain damage and nothing happens... all legal... on a film a stuntman gets the punches and can even die... all legal... now if there is a robbery and you are attacked, if you fight for your life, and you hurt or kill the robber in self defense YOU go to jail... all legal.. matthew Broderick killed someone in a traffic accident... Woody Allen had p r n photos of soon yi aged 7 at that time... mark wahberg attacked 2 people with a baseball bat... James franco with minors ... Gary Oldman with domestic violence charges that ended in divorce as well as Jonathan Rhys Meyers, David Hasselhof y Michael Fassbender... did anything happen to any of them??? But we are shocked by a slap cause making jokes about ill people is legal now... so those who make fun of President Biden and his age and health issues can do it cause it is legal now...
Well, this wouldn't be the first time that a celebrity does something terrible and still wins an award. It has happened before with other celebrities who have done worse.

“ class act” oh my god … what the hell is wrong with your exaggerated way of talking ? why are people on Here always saying such weird stuff ? You think it is “classy “to make jokes like this ? you must be a “ class “ act yourself
WHAT IF A WOMAN LIKE WANDA SYKES HAD MADE THAT SAME JOKE? iS THE SLAP OK THEN TOO? WHAT WOULD THE ACADEMY DO THEN? THERE IS STILL NO PROOF THAT CHRISS ROCK EVER KNEW ABOUT JADA'S HAIR CONDITION. NOT EVERYONE FOLLOWS A NOBODY'S USELESS, HOPELESS LIFE ONLINE.
I work in a large hospital (company). If someone hired by the company (employee) is assaulted by someone, the company’s Human Resource department doesn’t ask the employee if they want action taken against the assailant, they just enforce the company’s no-tolerance for violence, harassment, discrimination, etc. policies. An assault against an employee is an assault against the company. The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences is a highly profitable company. It nets in the neighborhood of $40M-$50M per year. For the 2022 Academy Awards Show, Chris Rock was hired as a Presenter (employee). An employee of the company was assaulted. There is no reasonable excuse why the company didn’t take swift and decisive action and immediately invoke legal action. Hats off the Chris Rock’s professionalism, but the company let him and all who value justice down. At this point the Academy is equally at fault and paramount to accessory to the assault.
Everything you said I agree totally with you. Your words on this situation should be plastered all over social media and in magazines and on t.v. I wish there was a way of making Will smith and the academy read your writing.I love how you worded it perfectly and I just thought I’d like to tell you I love it and I agree with everything you just said.
Chris was crying in side of his heart but refused any actions they said and keep the show must go on. Respect. Will Smith destroyed his own career by himself, could not blame others but himself. They were right. Chris saved that night not to go worse that than.
The victim should never be put in the position to be responsible to decide what happens next, immediately after an assault and battery. The fact that the academy and/or academy affiliates are using Chris's statements (directly after the assault) as rationale for not ejecting Will Smith is absolutely despicable. In the fact they are slapping him again by trying to use his statements as justification. It's disgusting. When someone is assaulted, it's time for the people around the victim to step up and take control of the situation. Chris was assaulted once by Will Smith and is now assaulted again by the Academy and the producers of the show.
Again, another panty waste making it seem like Chris was human trafficked. Ffs, it was a slap. It was bs for sure it come on. This is what we get in a feminized society. Men get hit growing up, it happens, and we move on, not cry and moan about being victims. It is no wonder authoritarian goons around the world feel like they can get away with horrid crimes now that US men have been gelded by their women...like Smith.
Hollywood is a good example of when the Rule of Equity (ROE) supersedes the Rule of Law (ROL). Historically, the ROE was specifically created for the British Monarchy, where the Royals were given "Equity Points" (EPs) for their royalty, power, prestige, wealth, social status. The ROL, on the other hand, was created specifically for the non-Royals, the Commoners. The Royals were spotted certain EPs depending on their line of accession to the throne. The King or Queen was spotted infinity EPs, a prince or princess, duke or duchess, baron or baroness would be spotted a lower number from the King, Queen. But the Royals would have much more EPs than any Commoner. This allowed the Royals to rape, murder, torture, enslave the Commoners at will, since the ROE superseded the ROL meant for Commoners. In the U.S., there is no Monarchy, but there are those with wealth, power, fame, prestige, high social status, and their Equity Points are based on these characteristics. As a throwback to British Rule, the U.S. continued w/ the British system of having 2 governing laws: (1) ROE, (2) ROL. And as a throwback, in the U.S., the ROE supersedes the ROL. The Founding Fathers detested the ROE and worked hard to eradicate this in the U.S. legal system; they felt that the ROE was another manifestation of Tyranny. But the ROE crept back in via many SCOTUS rulings in the past two centuries. Hence, this is why some peeps are given special consideration not afforded to others. In Hollywood, Smith has more EPs than Rock. Hence, this is why the LAPD, Academy Awards honchos are giving Smith more consideration, leniency.
All fkn facts, chris was really just trying to avoid looking like a beat up partner who called the cops, and being as tho its another man he was trying to salvage what was left of his manhood as seen by the public, knowing they would call him even more punks fir doing so.I also think he wanted it to lay dormant in hopes that just maybe if the show goes on maybe somehow it will go way or be less paid attention too.🤷🏾♂️.Ur really grasping at straws when someone humiliates you worldwide and embarrasses you like that to find ways to make it better. Will Smith is a public pussi azz lil itch in my eyes.No real man respects what he did.He a itch and I would treat that hoe and him he married to like the low itches they are.Fc will smith and his whole illumaniti slave ass family
Lost all respect I ever had for Will. Chris is reliving all his bullying memories in one Oscar moment. This will take years for him to fully grasp the moment. I feel for you, Chris Rock.
I know it's sad , as big of a deal Jada made about her "medical condition" the psychological effect on someone who has the past the Chris could REALLY BE DEVASTATING.
" And Chris was just keeping his head when everybody else was losing theirs" now that is the stuff that makes a greatness, to be able to keep his head and even smile because he saw the bigger picture, people were there to be recognised for their work, he didn't forget that, and went on to make sure that was done. Chris showed humility in the face of humiliation, that earned my absolute respect for him, and yes he was raised and raised well.
The Aussie term for it is " Gutless Wonders"... all mouth and no substance. I have lost all respect for Will Smith and I salute Chris Rock. It was easy to see who is the mature professional Man and who is the immature Boy
Chris Rock eviscerated Will Smith and Jada Pinkett in his Netflix Special "Selective Outrage" a year after the incident at the Oscars. Shakespeare said "Revenge is a dish best served cold" and I think Chris Rock got that message. His comments were worth the wait.
Even now, over a year later, I still can not believe what I watched that night. Will Smith lost a lot of respect and good will from his fans. And everyone saw what a piece of work Jada was and still is today!!!
“We were going to remove him, but Chris didn’t want that.” They are just covering their asses. Chris Rock can decide not to press charges, but it’s up to the Academy to remove Will Smith, not Chris Rock. This is total BS.
They did ask him to leave. What they decided against was forcibly removing him after he had refused. I understand not wanting to have more violence being recorded at the Oscars. But it was a ultimately a bad decision.
You're absolutely right --- that whole scene is TOTAL BS!! Most institutions (public & private) function on a very high degree of willful deceit & self-serving hypocrisy.. The so-called "Academy" is no different.. How can anyone actually JUSTIFY giving someone a "prestigious award" after they've slapped the living daylights out of someone on live national television with millions of people watching?? Are you kidding me? The Academy's TOTAL lack of moral responsibility is just as disgusting as Will Smith's behaviour during that horrible, horrible, moment.. Another shining example of the continual social & moral decline that continues to plague America..
The laughing, the physical assault, the refusal to be removed, the crying on stage, and then the laughing and getting jiggy with it after party as if nothing happens? What a world class act Will Smith is. The thought that disturbed me most is that the people thought he was standing for his wife? Is beyond hypocracy of the celebrities who was giving Smith the ovation, what a joke those celebrities are.
You're damn right. He just stood for the macho hubby. Because he felt he had to defend her honor. Not because he wanted too. He thought people were going to point et him for laughing with others when finally, he's going to lose more after the violence
This Incident will never be forgotten, no matter how much Will and his wife want to or try. It will most definitely be the in the obituary when Will finally passed away.
LAPD doesn't need Chris Rock's permission to arrest a guy who assaulted him on world-wide TV. Will Packer and the rest of the Academy should be ashamed that they let Smith stay there and give his pathetic little speech.
They simply didn't know what to do. That has never happened before and I believe they were shell-shocked. Also, THEY knew he had won for best actor but WE didn't know and I believe they didn't want to interrupt that. There was no playbook to fall back on when things like this happen. I bet there is one now.
No, they don’t need his permission, but when the world’s a stage and you literally have two actors on a stage, I can understand them not wanting to make an arrest without the victim’s full cooperation. If it turned out to be faked, then they’d be left with egg on on their face.
Let also get this straight. The producers of the event can have anyone removed from the event, and should have. Why they would put the weight of that decision on the shoulders of the victim is beyond comprehension. This would have been the moment to do the right thing by the victim and the remaining audience. Lets not mention, the whole world was/is watching...
Exactly. Will Packards attempt to cover his butt by victim blaming is shameful. He shouldnt be allowed to produce a dog show. He even admits that Chris only statement was that he didn't want will Smith arrested. He never said he didn't want will Smith to leave. It's a private event with security. They could have had will Smith removed
Everyone would have interpreted Smith's removal as having come from Rock, one way or another. What I don't get is the complete lack of remorse Smith had for many many hours after the slap...and probably still has. Smith has the mind of a gangsta--and that's no compliment. I'm King of the World!
Chris was so concerned about how his other colleagues had worked so hard. Especially Questlove who was about to win an Oscar for a movie about marginalized people in Harlem. And he wanted Will to be there for his award too! Incredible grace.
What I understood, though, was that Chris didn't want to press charges. I don't know if he was advocating for him to stay, I think that was the producer's interpretation of it all. That's what I understood. But Will Smith behaved like a tantrumming toddler, he got upset, got physical, and still refused to cooperate by voluntarily leaving. They gave in to him like a little kid. Lost a lot of respect for him.
I couldn't agree more! He not only kept it together, but he also turned it into a joke instantly with the "greatest night in television" quote. Pure talent and pure class. I am a huge fan of Chris and Will and still am. Will needed to apologize and he has. Chris I think has already put it behind him and maybe even forgave him. I hope the rest of the world can too but know full well some people want a person's head if they even SAY something they disagree with. So, ya this will be polarized for a very long time I'm sure.
Just imagine standing there and staring at a full audience, in front of dozens of cameras, alone on the stage, and all you hear is silence. Everyone in the audience is just staring at you, and you know millions of people around the world are looking at you from their television sets in shock. Hell, you'd be the one most in shock; you just got assaulted and cussed at by Will Smith. So what the hell would you do or say? The fact that Chris could recover within a few seconds and crack an amazing joke to ease the tension is incredible. Who knows what would've happened had he decided to just walk off stage instead. What a champ. On the other hand, Will Smith thinks he can do damage control by calling up Academy board members to apologise before even getting on the phone and apologising to Chris like a man. Relying on a publicist to release a media apology statement instead of doing it himself. Chris Rock is twice the man he is. Pathetic.
I really hope Will and Jada’s careers will forever be affected by this. Will should have been cuffed and arrested at that moment on live TV. He certainly did not deserve to win the Oscar that night. Chris Rock showed so much restraint and professionalism when he had every right to defend himself and hit Will back. Will’s movies released since that night have tanked. Will’s movies not doing as well as they did before that night will be the only consequence for Will but it will be a lasting one.

During circuses in the 1800s, when animals got loose, or refused to do their tricks, the Circus 🎪 management would say "the show must go on." Chris Rock gave that a whole new meaning. YOU GO CHRIS! ! BROTHER ROCK, YOU ROCK! !
Absolutely incredible. I know people that have been arrested, not once have they asked someone do you want them arrested. My love for Chris Rock had risen a 1000 percent. God bless this young man
No one should ask a victim if he wants the abuser removed. Chris was in shock and didn’t have time to process it all. So Will Packer and others placed the responsibility on someone who just got assaulted. So disgusting.
It’s not “disgusting “.. such wrong word usage. They asked the most relevant person. If they stormed the theater and caused a greater scene and it disallowed Chris to not take back that moment on the stage it could have been worse for him. Only Chris knows.
WORD! EXACTLY! Also, why the LAPD asks for anyone's opinion on taking action, when a crime was committed?! There wouldn't be murder cases if the victim's opinion was a thing, otherwise no action taken! They are a law ENFORCEMENT unit, no questions or excuses when someone commits a crime!
Oh ffs lady. You are making it sound like he was a sexual assault victim. He got sucker slapped. He is a man, it isn't the first time he has been smacked. He just showed he was a smart grown man. Kinda shows how you think like a victim though.
After he was slapped and Will Smith was screaming at him, Rock started to say, “I could, ohhh okaay…” and left it there. Yup, Chris, the restraint you showed was almost superhuman…you COULD HAVE, but you DIDN’T. He is brilliant, quick-minded, funny and incredible.
The Academy has failed here and continues to do so by taking so long to punish Will Smith for committing an assault on live TV. The messaging is just awful. It was not Chris Rock's responsibility to get Will Smooth removed from the premises. It was the Academy's! Chris Rock was dazed after being physically assaulted, cursed at and disrespected in front of millions of people. In my mind, there is nothing the Academy or Will Smith can do to ever make this up to Chris Rock. He didn't deserve this. No one does.
Precisely. In this interview, it’s as if Rock was the only one held responsible for either “retaliating” or not. He deserved protection and to be defended. He is not the only one who could have taken the heat for making the right decision, ie to have Smith removed. In fact, he’s the last person who should have had to do so. Even in Boston he said he’s still processing it.
Chris Rock was shocked by it, just like the rest of us... and so was the Academy. It's a unique situation, and you don't know how to handle it. Chris Rock obviously had some influence on how they handled it too. But the reason it's taking them so long to decide what to do now, is it's a group of people weighing in options.
@@beebuzz959 It shouldn't be that hard they had a whole bunch of rules made up because of all the Harvey Weinstein assaults. They had a choice to make and they had two paths to follow the right path kick his ass out which probably gives them bad Press/Pr - or the "We need to Save Face and Views/Ratings" let him stay to get his award.
So, not only is Chris Rock one of the greatest comedians of all time, he's also a wonderful soul. Kudos to you, Chris. You were the real man on the stage.
I have never liked him especially the Asian jokes in Oscar couples years back. But he is now my hero. Will Smith should be removed of his membership in the Academy
The standing ovation got me and Denzel, Cooper all these "stars" just patting Will on the back and cheering for him. That was disgusting and shows what a real cesspool Hollywood is, all of them.
Rock just gained my respect 🙏 🫡 to the highest level. What a tremendous professional and man. He didn't let his ego or justified indignation control him. He chose forgiveness instead 😌.
Chris is a better man than me. I understand why he didn't want to press charges, but I would still sue the holy living bat crap out of Will. Plus, I would sue the Oscars. They let Will accept his award, laugh and play around on stage and attend the after party. I would sue both the Oscars & Will for $1 million per minute that Will got to stay in the building after he attacked. But hey. Just another rich jerk doing whatever he wants with NO CONSEQUENCES. You know. America...
@Sean Hardman Jada smith is an actress, and that was the Oscar. Had Will stayed mute and do an IG or include some statements in his acceptance speech, he would have had Chris Rock cancelled. But hélas
If anyone has heard the podcast where Chris Rock opens up about being bullied when he was younger it makes this whole situation so much worse. He was beaten and punched so much in school his defense was to joke and accept it. Very similar to what happened at the oscars. Just sad to see that he was probably brought back to that moment.
OMG! That's so heartbreaking. He really showed class beyond measure after he Will Smith violently assaulted him. He probably had horrible nightmares or some other type of ptsd that night reliving his childhood trauma. I hope he's doing well. Because getting bullied by others (especially kids) is sometime not easy to get over as we grow up into good, competent and well behaved adults.
Uh...his show.."everybody hates chris". However, It actually makes sense..why he became a comedian. Victims of verbal abuse bullying, usually become verbal bullies when they're older.
The so called producers should have acted immediately in having Smith removed from the theatre. Why was the onus on Chris in deciding how the situation should have been dealt with?
"Chris Rock doesn't want that" It is not up to him. The Oscars have failed. The Oscars have their own rules and Smith broke them. Its not up to Chris Rock.
I agree. If I had been someone with the authority to have Will Smith forcibly removed for the site of the 2022 Academy Awards after slapping Chris Rock, and someone came to me and said that Mr. Rock did not want Mr. Smith to be removed, I would have said that I don't care what Chris Rock says, and I would have had Will Smith removed from the premises immediately.
I 100% agree with this! The Academy had a responsibility and they failed! It's a criminal act, assault, and he not only gets to stay, he gets an award. Shameful on the Academy!
Damn right. Chris Rock does not make the law or get to normalize assault, even by one of his buddies and even if it was against him. Society needs this to be condemned and prosecuted, especially in today's environment where so call words have been called violence by powerful activists. This must be punished. Will Smith may have made a mistake, but it is a mistake that you and I would not get away with and for the 'greater good' he must be punished andnlt with a some pittance fine either.
Doesn't matter if Chris wanted to have him removed or not, you should've done it anyway. If he didn't want to press charges, that's his choice, but removing Will was the bare minimum the show should have done.
The academy should've gone ahead and removed Will anyway. You are correct! As it was, they condoned this bad behaviour by allowing him to stay and receive a standing ovation no less!! Shameless and spineless!
The fact that will smith gave a manipulative speech and apologized to everyone but Chris shows that he didn’t deserve all the grace Chris gave him in that moment and after the fact
As someone who finds myself in this situation, Will didn't want to do it. *Allegedly* from a Psych Tec here on RUclips, Will is in a toxic relationship. That is none of our business but it does explain why he slapped and turned away. I don't expect too many people see it as I do. Just like people think feelings of a woman is something to walk on. No remorse. No cares about her feelings. I felt her emotions just as loud as I herd that little love tap on the cheek.
That producer should of kicked him out..mail the award to him and switch winner . It was his show . He should be banned too .didn’t matter what Chris had to say wasn’t Chris’s show
Chris Rock deserves an Oscar for performance of the night. He successfully deescalated the situation and was able to keep the show on track. True professional.

Will was saved by Chris Rock’s pure forgiveness and humbleness
He was saved back then but it looks like now from everything we are hearing in the News and RUclips that Will may be in a lot of hot water with his close friendship with P Diddy and others.

He failed.

That would have been a powerful message. It's a little disturbing that Chris Rock is being called a hero, in part, for not pressing charges or wanting Smith kicked out. Instead, we saw him receive a standing ovation after his assault, as he accepted his best actor award. That in itself made it one of the worst nights on television. Jim Carrey said it best, “Hollywood is spineless.”
Jim carry said that while sueing someone for something that had nothing to do with him
why LAPD does nothing when there are people looting shops in broad daylight??? or people is stabbed at their jobs???

🗣🗣 YES!!! ALL OF THIS
Exactly 💯... everyone there that saw and did nothing including the company are essentially an accessory to that assault PERIOD.
YESSSSS!!!!!!! CHRIS ROCK COULD STILL BRING INJURY LAWSUITS AGAINST BOTH WILL SMITH & THE OSCAR'S PRODUCERS
Agree!
Did Chris get an Oscar for this award winning moment?

Exactly ‼️‼️

How does anyone not think that this was staged!??!?? Because it worked!!!!!!
@@joncruz92 rubbish.
I agree 100%. I heard they asked him to leave and he refused as well...
Facts. Actors acting.
Agree completely
The laughing, the physical assault, the refusal to be removed, the crying on stage, and then the laughing and getting jiggy with it after party as if nothing happens? What a world class act Will Smith is. The thought that disturbed me most is that the people thought he was standing for his wife? Is beyond hypocracy of the celebrities who was giving Smith the ovation, what a joke those celebrities are.
all around douchebag Will Smiths
You're damn right. He just stood for the macho hubby. Because he felt he had to defend her honor. Not because he wanted too. He thought people were going to point et him for laughing with others when finally, he's going to lose more after the violence
What goes around comes right back around ... Seems like Wills true character came out ...
Yep I agree 100% they all clapped him like a hero it made me sick literally the guys a scumbag
could not have said it better
This Incident will never be forgotten, no matter how much Will and his wife want to or try. It will most definitely be the in the obituary when Will finally passed away.
And here I am after Jada drops a bomb on us about them not even being together when this happened smh
LAPD doesn't need Chris Rock's permission to arrest a guy who assaulted him on world-wide TV. Will Packer and the rest of the Academy should be ashamed that they let Smith stay there and give his pathetic little speech.
True, because it happened on their property during their event and put the pressure on the one who was impacted by it. Not cool.
They could have had will Smith removed
yes but there are multiple producers. No one person can make that call.
It should not of mattered what Chris wanted.. they should have removed him, anywhere else, it would have not been an option.
we can't have nothing nice .
Chris Rock was such a professional. He kept his composure the entire time.
And that's what I loved about that whole moment! He never fell apart, where other comedians would've erupted and took it there.
Rock solid!
He was so professional that night, and he saved the event
Pathetic.
Cancel will smith. Easy
Absolutely!!!! smith can go danse with the devil - Chris, sir you ROCK!!!!!!!!
If the academy doesn’t do something anything whether Chris wants it or not they are wrong to me.
Will's proof that age doesnt make people wiser or kinder. I guess neither does Scientology.
Well said!!!

Will Packer dropped the ball for sure. Why was he sitting in the audience?
It’s not “disgusting “.. such wrong word usage. They asked the most relevant person. If they stormed the theater and caused a greater scene and it disallowed Chris to not take back that moment on the stage it could have been worse for him. Only Chris knows.
WORD! EXACTLY! Also, why the LAPD asks for anyone's opinion on taking action, when a crime was committed?! There wouldn't be murder cases if the victim's opinion was a thing, otherwise no action taken! They are a law ENFORCEMENT unit, no questions or excuses when someone commits a crime!

I totally agree!!!
This man interviewing the Oscar producer is SO handsome and looks really smart 💋💋
Chris Rock handled this better than anyone on Earth could have handled it. He's amazing!
Absolutely. Enough of the boys will be boys attitude!

My sentiment exactly 💯
exactly, if Will Smith had any balls he would go to Chris Rocks house and apologize like a real man not this half assed twitter bullshit apology!!
