    When I'm depressed listening to happy music actually makes me feel worse. Instead of being uplifting the positive lyrics instead make me feel bad because I worry my life will never be like that. That's why I only ever listen to sad music. It eases my mind to know that I'm not the only one who's suffered like this.

Depression has been holding me back for years on & off way before i even realized it was depression. I'm going through it now with the worst case of anxiety i've ever had instead of depression this time and my hope this year is to get rid of it once and for awhile with what i've been working towards.

    As a rock-lover with GAD, I think the reason why faster tempos create higher anxiety levels is because of how much listening to the music feels like a micro anxiety/panic attack. The brain hears the stress in the chords and enterperates it as outside stressors acting upon the body, leading to an increase in stress hormones being produced.

      I think they "experimented" genres like metal on people who are not used to them or very much dislike them. Metal might just be the most "happy"/uplifting genre of music. It has no bullshit plastic positivity, it is honest and strong, it lets you feel badass and good and honestly powerful as a person, it promotes history/rational thought/honesty/FUN/more. It is fun as hell and the community is super awesome! The only sub genre that can make you feel down is some doom or dsbm, but when you already feel depressed this kind of music lets you digest the emotion a lot and it makes you feel understood and strong. Just how I see things.

    • @chromaticswing9199
      @chromaticswing9199 6 лет назад +5

      In other words, metal is catharsis. Catharsis can be expressed in many ways, whether through atonal death metal, depressive (suicidal) black metal, incessant doom metal, or euphoric power metal. And just as Berserker said, it has a tight knit community. Metal is abrasive, separating itself from the outsiders and leaving the people who truly love it. Coupled with the endless subgenres which allow people to find their niche, it is an experience by itself.
      There are definitely many negative things within the community. However, that's a fact in every corner of the universe. Just take care of yourself, and remember that there's still love and hope in our world!

    Music is literally one of the best ways I'm able to cope with both my depression and anxiety.
    Whenever I can't listen to it while I'm working on things at school it just makes it worse for me because I'm already anxious and paranoid 24/7 but when I can it helps me relax and calm down. I also sometimes use specific songs as a way to vent, like sometimes I play a song that means a lot to me and probably cry to it but it helps me. It feels like someone's comforting me, y'know?
    Also the thing about the lyrics is so true! I sometimes spend hours just trying to find out the meaning of each lyric in the song!

    Music has helped me more than nothing because it keeps me distracted from suicidal thoughts or to scape from stressing situations like waiting for someone in a public place, i actually got kind of into writhing poems, but im not good at it, i kind of get frustrated about riming and having a atractive writing and just end up writhing my feeling withouth any verse or sense at all. The kind of music i lisent too is usually rock, but also jazz, its kind of all about two faces of the same coin, being one to make me realize all the feelings i have, being hate, sadness, lonelyness or whatever, and the other being to calm my feelings down and get focused

    I’ve always needed music. Ever since I was a baby I couldn’t sleep without it. It got me through the years of bullying, anxiety attacks, and depression. At one point it was the only thing keeping me here. It kept me off the edge when I was only 1 step away. On the hard days it lets me forget/feel better about everything. There is no greater thing then music, it’s one of the few things I will always wake up for.

While the process of listening to it might be tiring, as it makes me really energetic, the end result, when I put my headphones down is always cathartic. It leaves me feeling calm, relaxed and collected. It also alleviates me from stress and anxiety and keeps me going throughout the day.

    For me metal does relax me the most. I love all genres of metal and it kinda always is what I want it to be. It can motivating, soothing, sad, happy, angry, funny and so much more. Sometimes even a few of these things at once.
    There is nothing like sitting alone in a comfortable chair in a dark room and listening to Amon Amarth. I just feel so calm on the inside. Nothing around me matters. All problems are forgotten. That's why I love metal so much.

    • @Psych2go
      @Psych2go  6 лет назад +2

      You should continue writing your feelings down, its a great way to vent and get out your emotions! Instead of trowing them away, you could do somehing else with them? Maybe keep them hidden to see your progress over the weeks, months and years, or shred them beyond recognition, or paint over it so you can no longer read. All the best :)

Music is truly a powerful source of emotion.

    I'm listening to a lot of hard rock and metal music. It helps me vent my stress and lower my anxiety long term. It even helps me out of bigger long lasting anxiety attacks.
    Slower music is almost only helpful, when I'm already on low stress. When my anxiety strikes calm music keeps my head rasing. I'm way to impatient to wait for it.
    Maybe it has something to do with ones own thoughts rythm, or something.

    as a music lover and songwriter, i find what is explained in the video 100% true. music has helped me more than anything and anyone else to take whatever came in stride because i managed to create something positive from a negative experience, or even from an experience that was positive itself. i managed to create something harmonious from chaos and that helped me to understand myself better, to name my emotions and to break them down so that they won't be too heavy to be carried.
    music is, in my opinion, our inner voice, and letting it out (even just by listening to cerain songs, like this video stresses) sooths the mind and the soul because we feel deeply connected to it.
    last but not least, i wholeheartedly thank you for this brilliant video, i loved it.
    cheers x

    Three Days Grace are a great band to listen to to calm anxiety. Their lyrics always make me feel better. The best songs are: The End Is Not The Answer: (“you and I are in this together, don’t you give up ever. Cause the end is not the answer.”) Never Too Late: (“now and again we try to just stay alive. Maybe we’ll turn it all around cause it’s not too late. It’s never too late.”) Pain: (“I know that you’re wounded. You know that I’m here to save you. you know that I’m here to save you. You know I’m always here for you. I know that you’ll thank me later.”) Life Starts Now: (“You will survive this somehow because life starts now.”) The Real You: (“I will never give up on you. I see the real you. Even if you don’t, I do.”)Some others I really like are: So What I LiedGet Out AliveGive Me A ReasonOn My OwnLast To KnowMisery Loves My Company World So ColdCar Crash I REALLY suggest listening to their music.

      I wish you won't choose to end your life, but make it better for your sake. It's really sad I can't be there to help or do anything for that matter, but just know there's tons of people out there who wouldn't want you to end your life just like that. If there isn't, then maybe an initiative should be taken to find them and make new goodhearted friends and acquaintances. I may be talking big but Life. Matters. A life is precious, irreplaceable and you only get to live it once. (And if you believe in reincarnation, then why would you only wait for the new one when you can change now?) Even if the rules implemented in life is unfair and unjust, just know that maybe the afterworld would be different and everything would be returned equally.
      I know one way to deter from ending your life, it's by helping others that are going through way worse with no ill will. If someone's poor sleeping on the street, try to give them some food to eat even if it's as tiny a donation as a grain of rice. Millions suffer the same thing you do, and billions are better off than you, and billions are experiencing worser things than you. Just always understand you're not alone on your problem and it's healthier to overcome it like a proud warrior in those history textbooks and storybooks. Much love from me💕💘

      @@Threebananaforaeuro I love the songs Queen, Royal, Heathens, anything Christina Perry, anything Boys Like You, Invisable, and Older, I am really inspired by those songs, it is definitely a weird choice of songs out of the thousand I listen to, Christina Perry has soft and slow music, as well as the songs Invisable, Boys Like You, and Older, but Queen, Royal, and Heathens are faster upbeat songs, I listen to a lot of songs but from these songs I learn how to make music that's not depressing, some still sound sad and slow, and others sound upbeat and happy

    When I get anxious I put on an album called Pretty.Odd it's such a beautiful album and even though it's by a rock band, it's surprisingly chill

    I was depressed a while ago, I didn’t want to go to therapy because I honestly thought it was stupid talking about me, i don’t like to talk about myself. I learned myself to listen happier music like If you know that I’m lonely- FUR and became better!
