      @@RaferJeffersonIII What are you talking about? Censorship in the media today? The same media that calls every labour member a commie and every tory member a fascist? What press control are you talking about? You're barmy. Would you prefer they allowed phone tapping? Surely that wasn't building block of honest society right? How come you haven't figured out yet that FOX News were one of the primary components of how the "mainstream media is evil" ideology became mainstream in the first place. FOX News is the most watched news channel in the US, yet they claim to be against the "mainstream media". Without the "mainstream media" we'd have even more bias, and even more fake news than we already have. You're consciously/sub-consciously giving more power to liars and conspiracy theorists to hold politicians and celebrities to account, rather than legitimate journalists who can and are sued/lose their jobs when they lie. If you're a self employed "political commentator" you're rarely held to account at all.

    Everyone saying Brett Lee was being out of order need to put this into perspective. Piers Morgan called the English players "cowards" for not being able to face up to the Australian pace attack. So he was challenged to face a genuine pace bowler, bowling aggressively at 150km/h. Brett Lee was actually trying to stand up for the England players by making a point, facing that kind of bowling is not easy. Credit to Piers for being brave enough to face him.

    • @collinslfc
      @collinslfc 8 лет назад +76

      +Sloth from The Goonies The difference being that the English players are professional cricketers who have trained and are experienced in facing 90mph bowling. Piers Morgan is a middle aged journalist and sports fan with an opinion. Plus the fact that Brett Lee is deliberately bowling short bodyline (apart from a couple of deliveries) which isn't legal in the modern game since you are only entitled to bowl two bouncers per over in test matches. And huge overstep no balls.
      It sounds to me that you are implying you have to be a professional sportsman to be able to critisice sports players even if you believe they are not performing up to standard...

    • @slothfromthegoonies8201
      @slothfromthegoonies8201 8 лет назад +128

      ***** No, it wasn't the criticism of their ability that was unfair, it was the fact that he called them cowards. Nobody who faces aggressive 95mph bowling is a "coward". You can't call someone a coward when they're doing something that would absolutely terrify you. It's like someone who has never been in a war zone calling a decorated soldier a coward, it's pathetic.

    • @collinslfc
      @collinslfc 8 лет назад +11

      Sloth from The Goonies
      But the Australian bowlers weren't bowling bodyline deliveries like Lee was doing deliberately here. It's one thing facing 90-95 mph deliveries intended to get you out, it's another thing facing 90-95 mph deliveries which are aimed at the body and intended to cause fear and physical harm. If a bowler in a professional match was to bowl like Lee did here, he would get a warning or be forced to be taken off. And I don't know Morgan's comments about calling England players "cowards" so I can only take your word for that. But regardless, it doesn't change the fact that English cricketers are professionals who are experienced facing fast bowling and therefore should be able to stand up to fast bowling whereas Piers Morgan is not.

    • @slothfromthegoonies8201
      @slothfromthegoonies8201 8 лет назад +28

      ***** I'd much rather face someone who's bowling bodyline deliveries than someone who is throwing in the occasional short one.. Bouncers are only lethal when concealed with an element of surprise. They're intended to catch sleeping batsmen off guard. If somebody is bowling bouncers ball after ball, it becomes predictable and it's easy to deal with. This is why even Piers Morgan, a nonathletic, middle-aged man, is able face aggressive short deliveries from one of the fastest bowlers of all time, and come out of it relatively unscathed.

    I genuinely think Pier Morgan thought he could face Brett Lee. I've had the misfortune of reading his book. He's a keen cricketer who rates himself very highly. In England, to be fair, he's probably a good village cricketer who could just about hit a half volley off a 70mph bowler and reckon he's not half bad. This is reality hitting someone's over inflated ego so hard, it's beautiful. I mean, yes brave, funny - kinda, but I honestly think in his head, Piers Moron thought he could lay bat on ball- try to show English professional batsmen "how it's done".
    Look at his disappointment at 3:06 - what did he expect? Brilliant.

      It’s bizarre that he agreed to face him and then essentially ran away from his stumps every ball. If he’d been out in the middle rather than in the nets he’d probably have been hiding behind the square leg umpire by the time the ball was bowled. Lee was just adjusting his line to stop him getting away with it.
      You could say he’s brave to voluntarily face Lee, but he faced him like a total coward. He wasn’t even looking at the ball most of the time.
      His reaction to the wicket is pretty funny. Reminds me of one of the guys in the village team I played in when I was a kid. He had the worst pair of hands of any fielder I’ve ever seen. I played for that team between the age of about 13 and 16 and never once saw him take a catch. He had a reputation for dropping the most gentle dollies scooped toward him and then grinning towards the bowler, but when there was a ball rocketed at him and he’d get a hand to it (or more often than not, it’d hit him in the belly as he stood gormlessly) he’d have a reaction similar to Piers and start cursing as if he took them every week.

      Piers handled it like a typical village cricket chodster. He shat himself and backed off, whereupon all Lee had to do was dig the ball in short on the line of leg stump or just outside, to really give it to him.

  • @sikhatheist651

    Here is some background info on this:
    Australia and England are playing a cricket series. Aus have a very quick bowler (pitcher) whom the England batters are finding hard to handle, hence England aren't doing too well in the games they have played. Piers had the nerve to call the England batters "weak" and "cowardly", then he went on to claim that he could easily bat against quick bowling (pitching), so Brett Lee (and X Aus fast bowler) did not take too kindly too his arrogance and challenged him to face 6 balls.
    Pitching at someone is perfectly legal in cricket and the Aussie quick intimidated many Eng batters by aiming at their bodies, and since Piers had called the batters weak from not standing up to fast bowling, he was given a taste of the same medicine. The pitchers usually throw a few at the body and then slip in one at the three poles (as Brett also did). The batter's job is to prevent the ball from making contact with the poles.
