    I just wanted to thank you Before i'd left for Boot Camp. Your videos have been the most helpful than anyone I could find in RUclips. You talk about the topics most People have questions about and into debt. Thank you

    Finally a sailor with a perspective i can relate to and learn some decent information from..the content is different, even the viewers, for the youtubers who enlisted after high school

    I just wanted to mention that I really appreciate all the effort you put into making these videos. I am meeting with an Officer Recruiter in the next few days so I have been looking up as much as I can find out about what to do, etc. Who knows? Maybe one of these days we could run into one another.

    My cousin was just watching this and I heard post dated checks being cashed earlier than the written date. That's actually illegal and they forge documents to get it thru early. I had that issue and got a huge settlement over it

    • @GingerSailor
      @GingerSailor  Год назад

      I am aware of that. There are places that make honest mistakes. That means the person that accepted the check didn't give it a close enough look. However, in boot camp, it will be days if not weeks before you have this information

    Hey what about for your boh or bos payments while you're in basic? Do they land on the 1st and 15th as well?

  • @logangiddens8431
    @logangiddens8431 9 лет назад +4

    Hey I'm going Navy and leave for basic soon but my rate is SECF do you have any advice for sub school in Groton

    • @GingerSailor
      @GingerSailor  9 лет назад +2

      +Logan Giddens Once you get to groton you will start Basic Entry Submarine School (BESS) you'll have 4 rates to choose from. FT (Fire technician) STS (sonar technician) ET-Nav (navigation and inner communications technician) and ET Radio (external communications) you will be assigned one of those within your 1st 3-4 wks in Groton. If you show up E-2 and finish at the top of BESS academically, you will be promoted to E3. So just work hard. After BESS you will go through 2 more month long sessions to get you acclimated to the SECF pipeline before you actually start A-school so get comfy in Groton because you'll be here for over a yr

    What if you live with someone and they pay half of the bills and need my half what to do

    I'm from Puerto Rico, how will the calculation work after taxes? And I love your videos!

    • @GingerSailor
      @GingerSailor  9 лет назад

      +RCNano13 You will be paying federal taxes. You will have to check what kind of tax bracket applies to puerto rico and add that on as well. It won't be as high as some of the state taxes in the US are though. I had a puerto rican recruit in my division and he had roughly the same money as everyone else when he got to check his. The only thing that truly effects you is not being able to send your personal items back from bootcamp. They will make you box it up like everyone else but give it back to you a day or two before graduation.

      +GingerSailor Awesome! Thank you for your response. I was curious since Puerto Rico is a territory and not a state so I had no idea if there will be a grand difference. And I LOVE your videos!

    Hey if a rate is overmanned does that mean I wouldn't be able to get it or I would just have to wait a while ?

    • @GingerSailor
      @GingerSailor  8 лет назад +4

      +ryanzzification it means you will have to wait a while. doesn't mean you can't get it even though recruiters make it seem that way. Just let it be known what you want and stick to it.

    when you were saying pay as $1500 etc. a month so that means you earn $750 on the 1st and then another $750 on the 15th? that would be less than minimum wage right?

    • @GingerSailor
      @GingerSailor  8 лет назад +14

      if you live in a state that pays 10 dollars an hour then yes...if you don't include costs of food, room, power, water, health insurance, dental insurance, etc... all of which will almost double the minimum wage arguement. Some people calculate military pay as 24/7....and those people would be ignorant. at least 1/3rd of the time that I'm awake is spent off the boat doing what I want to do. if you worked a minimum wage job and tried to pay for all those things you would be out of luck. most (minimum wage jobs won't give you a good enough health care plan to pay for everything. retired veterans have crap care kind of but active duty, you will get what you need.) if you are married and have kids you get every allowance there is minus any hazardous duty allowances. (BAH, BAS, seperation pay, etc.) IF you count just your base pay at e1...than yes...for the first 2 yrs, it would equal minimum wage. at your 2yr mark (which will put you at e2/3) and every year after that, your pay goes up regardless of rank and if you advance it adds even more...no where near minimum wage

    hey bro, I'm a future sailor leaving on july 20th. Can i still keep my personal bank account and set up an account with the Navy federal ?

    • @GingerSailor
      @GingerSailor  8 лет назад +1

      +2sick69 yes. I did just that just to keep on top of my bills.

    • @GingerSailor
      @GingerSailor  8 лет назад +1

      +2sick69 It is hard to split your check between the two while at boot camp though. Married recruits have that opportunity, mostsingle recruits do not. So just throw your check into either the one you already have or the navy fed you plan to start until out of boot camp.

    Do you get paid while you're in school ? Say like IT school in the navy.

    • @GingerSailor
      @GingerSailor  8 лет назад +6

      you're getting paid starting on the day you ship out for bootcamp and for everyday after that until you leave the navy. you get a check on the 1st and 15th. even when you take leave (vacation time) you get paid fot that
