in the shower room, are there many sinks and mirrors for shaving? I recall my uncle saying in his military days of many guys crowding around a single mirror to shave then standing at inspection with blood on their necks and collars.

40 years and more ago there wasn't all this concern about who sees what. We all were used to open bay showers from junior high school up. My Father told me that people swam naked at the YMCA when he was growing up in the 1930s. Somewhere here on You Tube is a video of British Marine training. The instructor oddly enough is French. These men were shown how to brush their teeth( ever seen British people's teeth?) An abscess infection can kill you and sending men back leaves you short handed at the front. How to use deodorant and he emphasized that everyone was to clean under their foreskin. There's little worse than having to send a man back because he has a yeast infection that has irritated the glans and foreskin until it's fire red and has developed sores. Almost everyone in Europe is not circumcised. Also everyone is to sleep naked. Anyway we weren't all that sensitive about privacy then as people seem to be today.

I'm not worried about the showering,I'm old enough to realize that. I'm just wondering if you have finally found a good job in the navy. I want to join but I'm just wondering if it is just another dead end job.ive been to college, I have education,i have a head on my shoulders. I'm just looking for a brotherhood and a good job.thank you for your time.
Hi, since you didn't get an answer, and if it's not too late, here goes my opinion. First thing, the military won't prepare you for very many jobs in the civilian sector. It depends on the job, and if all you want is "brotherhood and experience, the military will give you that. Just don't expect to come out with any kind of marketable job skills unless you went in with them. My friend is a nuclear rated welder from US Navy Submarines. Well, that rating doesn't even help him in the real world except maybe at a muffler shop, and he would still need at least two years of school to translate his experience into a good paying civilian job.
+Tyler Gimblin (Mr. Gimbles) most of the time they can be quite warm. You can change the level of heat most of the time but on sundays, sometimes the hot water gets a bit thin. So on sundays its best to take an early shower to get the warmest water.

Those that miss the shower time get to do it the last hour of the day but only for that day, then its back to normal the following day. No taking showers after taps (lights out) either. know it sucks but everyone has to do it

yes and no. You are allowed to wake up early in most divisions but we had a 5 person maximum out of rack policy at night. You will not be able to take a shower though. If I woke up early it was just to shave and brush my teeth.
you are allowed to get up and use the bathroom anytime during the night. Showers are off limits but sometimes a guy or two will sneak in a quick shower before any roving watches on base come in and find them. Roving watches come in every night at some point to make sure things aren't going crazy in the compartment
What about body hair shaving? Especially for women. Do they give you any personal free time to shave your legs, underarms & such? I know for a fact bodyhair makes you smell even worse when you sweat.
+Louis Ruffin yes. They issue shower shoes that you are required to wear. I mean, they don't check inside the showers but its always a good idea to wear them regardless.

lol, I hope you know that the vast majority of military jobs are supporting roles that don't even see battle... yes the front line sucks, I'm sure, but pushing buttons in an office or manning staff at military bases (most of which are in friendly territories) aren't exactly jobs that males are so much better than women at doing. And just for the record, more people are shot each year than there are deaths each year in the navy (my branch).
It depends on your RDC's on how much time you get. Mine were very lenient with 45 min for all of us to shower. Pray for a good RDC.

nope. At air force, they keep it locked up so you can use that to call folks once a week but at Navy RTC you still have to ship it home
