    Went to bootcamp at RTC Great Lakes in 2000. Reveille (wake up) was 0400 and taps (bedtime) was 2200 (10 p.m.) We had PT every day except Sundays. March to every class, chow, every where you go... I went in January through March where the temp never got above 35 degrees and we would have to take cold showers in the morning. We would then have to outside and line up on the grinder at 5 a.m. in snow and wait for about 20-30 mins for the RDC while we froze our ass off! Times have changed my friend.

    i went to Navy Basic Training in the late 90's different then, our RDC's were pretty tough basic was still a nightmare ugh....no sleep, PT galore, all kinds of crap..but it taught a lot .....I was part of Division Front....and so everytime we screwed up we were dead meat. we had to march about a mile to chow....march back...not the same at Great Lakes...anymore....every Branch has their specific way of basic training for their mission......in the Navy though, if you want to be a diver, Spec Ops, rescue swimmer, IDC Corpsman, FMF HM, FMF (Fleet Marine Force) Religious Program Specialist ,aviation specialities etc...they will all have their own specific Basic training/schools remember this is Naval Basic training...which means learning the Nautical way of life.....swimming, water etc....ships, damage control etc
    ....which can be very very challenging. The Navy is an incredible branch, with all kinds of various divisions and communities.....really a special branch of the Military, loved it, loved serving with the people I served with and very proud of being Navy. We have it all and do it all....ask the Marines...lol

    @GingerSailor I was wondering what week do you do the swim test? what is the best way to memorize 11 general orders because I am having some trouble any advice ?? what time do you get up and go to sleep ? are you able to get 20 minutes earlier so you can be ready for the day ? ?

    • @maylene4282
      @maylene4282 8 лет назад

      I'm pretty sure swim was week 3 or 4? It's been a while. But it's completed really early on.
      I think Taps was 2100 or 2200 and Reville was 0630 or 0700. As for getting up early, depends on your RDC's. After taps, you're allowed to go to the head and you can work it to where you can shave before reville, but as you progress in rtc, everyone will get into the routine, and time wont be an issue. BUT, you can not be dressed in Uniform of the Day before Reville.

  • @WheatleyGLaDOS
    @WheatleyGLaDOS 8 лет назад +1

    I remember when I was in boot camp the MOOW would wake everyone up a hour before reveille so we had plenty of times to make our bunks and conduct morning hygiene. By the time the RDCs showed up you had to be at the toe line, personnel and compartment inspection ready. Still, I think Navy boot camp was too soft. I don't think we got yelled at enough our instructors are too chill.

    • @GingerSailor
      @GingerSailor  8 лет назад

      +Wheatley GLADOS I was expecting something a lot tougher than what I went through. I was kind of expecting something a little closer to ho wmarine corp drill seargents treat their recruits but it wasn't anything like that. Still glad I joined the navy regardless still feel it should be tougher so it would force some of the momma's boys and gals to grow up just a bit lol

      You can find the Navy tattoo policy/ regulations online. If it's in regs, its fine.

    • @maylene4282
      @maylene4282 8 лет назад

      No problem, not being a dick by saying its online. But if you just search Navy tattoo regulations it goes in to detail about what's authorized and what's not. They just put out new regs. Are you worried about anything in particular?

    • @maylene4282
      @maylene4282 8 лет назад

      Sleeves are actually not a problem anymore and are authorized as long as its in within good taste, no drug or gang references. At least with me, In RTC, they had everyone with tattoos go into a separate room and we had to show them and some had to explain them. But as long as they're not drug, gang, or obscene you're in the clear.

    As far as the medical reasons in boot camp what does the physical for submarines include? And if you are sick but can/and willing to perform a PRT will they allow it? And around what time of day is the showers?

    • @GingerSailor
      @GingerSailor  8 лет назад +1

      +Dan Dobbins the extra physical for submarine service is actually very simple. They take an X-ray of your torso to make sure you don't have a skeletal problem/ or any inflammation around your heart, lungs, and other organs. They re-ask you all the same screening questions you were asked, but an actual doctor asks them and that is it. As for being sick and running the PRT, I myself did that twice lol. I just didn't tell them I was sick. I was sick probably one-third of the time. I could have went and got SIQ (sick in quarters) but decided against it. You can go and get what is called a "cold-pack" which has over the counter cold medications in a baggie for you without being put on SIQ but some of the doctors their automatically put people on SIQ. (most don't though) but I didn't want to risk it. However if you do go SIQ in the first 4 or 5 weeks it won't set you behind that much. The last 2-3 weeks becomes fairly problematic because that is when most of the juicy training takes place. So just keep that in mind.

  • @gisho13

    Can anyone tell me anything about the swim test? I'm a lifeguard and can swim fairly well but I was just wondering how long it is/ how well you have to do etc.

    • @maylene4282
      @maylene4282 8 лет назад +2

      The swim test is easy. It's essentially jumping off a platform, then swimming across the pool. There's a few other things they'll show you how to do, like how to use coveralls as a flotation device. But it's simple stuff that 99% of people pass no problem. It was maybe total 30 minutes in the water broken up in to 3 or 4 tasks.

    okay first off, great video! Super helpful thank you ×) I was wondering what you eat in boot camp. I know this sounds Really lame but I don't eat meat. (I haven't had meat for 6 years) I'm completely willing to go back to eating meat once I join, but was wondering if I could limit it. Do you think that'd be possible? If not I'll be okay have to just suck it up and deal with it but I am curious to know if I could avoid eating it. Thanks again for the videos!

    • @GingerSailor
      @GingerSailor  8 лет назад

      +FIRalexisBVB that is possible. there is always a salad and fruit bar to choose from. the extent of choices are usually the same. usually the main courses are 1 meat and one side, then you go to the salad bar to get whatever you want

    are boot camp showers cold or not? I watched your shower video. I just want to know if i should train myself to get use to cold showers or if youll get hot water. or does it run out fast or what

    • @GingerSailor
      @GingerSailor  8 лет назад

      +Gianni Zanatta showers are generally warm. though when everyone is in there for more than 10-15 minutes, depending on what building they set your division up in, the hot water starts to run out. on few occasions it will be slightly cold.

    @GingerSailor I was wondering is there any way that you can advise to learn the 11 orders , commands , values and ranks , ect while in dep?
    Do you know deep Norge pool is that you have to pass in bootcamp?

    • @GingerSailor
      @GingerSailor  8 лет назад

      +Pamela Daya the pool is around 12 ft deep at its deepest (the area you jump into) but you swim the side of the pool and along the side to the other end where the water is 6-8ft deep and someone is within 10 ft of you at all times and carry a rode for you to grab should things go bad. The other things are just repitition. Make flash cards and drill drill drill. Listen to recordings and try to beable to say them out loud on cue. Being able to verbally say them is the most important part because that is how your knowledge is tested by the RDCs in boot camp. the ranks and recognition, look them up and try and make flash cards. Quizlet I'm sure has tons of test samples that you can search for and is a failry useful tool. I used it myself. but be mindful that it will take some hours of work to get them all under yor belt. Drill drill drill. no easy way around it

      +Pamela Daya You run without it but you can stop for water if you need to. Its best to run teh whole thing before getting water because that could add a good 30 seconds to a minute to your time. But you can get water at any moment if need be

    Do recruits have time off for religious worship on Saturdays/Sundays?

    • @GingerSailor
      @GingerSailor  8 лет назад

      +felixfelix felix you do. There is something called holiday routine on sundays that lasts until about noonish. during that time religious services are available to those that feel the need to go. there are plenty of different types so you can choose the one that suits you the most

  • @GiAndrei97
    @GiAndrei97 8 лет назад

    how are the weekends? Do they give you a free day? or is it work seven days a week? Do they accomodate for religious days for weekends?

    • @GingerSailor
      @GingerSailor  8 лет назад +2

      +Gianni Zanatta Sunday is your free day. "Holiday Routine" is on sunday until 12 or 1300. this means anything you need to get done, extended showers just to relax, or going to religious services are done within this time. they have a great many different gatherings to accommodate most religious preferences

    When is the first time you can pass your pfa's and swim test and if you pass it once do you have to pass it again??

    • @GingerSailor
      @GingerSailor  8 лет назад

      +Jonmarie Maines well in boot camp the first two pfa's don't matter but you only have to take the swim test once and then never have to again. As for the pfa...the thrid one is actually the PRT which is a biannual test that you will need to pass everytime. You will have to pass that one to graduate boot camp. After boot camp you will have to pass all of them pretty much. If you fail 3 in 2 yrs, they will kick you out of the navy. The rules on that have changed a little so I'll have to look them up but there are only a limited number of fails before you get kicked out so its best to pass them all.

    • @GingerSailor

      +Diana Sanchez there is still time to learn them. There are a few videos on youtube that have someone reading the 11 general orders out loud so you can just put that on repeat for 30 minutes a day until you can say them along with the speaker. My advice would be to keep pausing it and learn each one before moving to the next and keep repeating the process until you cant get it wrong. after a few days the orders will be easy

      Bro, are you serious? Your talking about Navy Deal training. The elite of the elite. Yeah it's tough. Tough to the point where the odds are severely stacked against you succeeding and becoming a Navy Seal. They are spec ops bad asses that military action movies are usually based around. Lol. Good luck.

      I mean, if you call people dying during just the training itself then...I mean what do you think? Of course it's hard, HELLO.

    • @GingerSailor
      @GingerSailor  8 лет назад +1

      +Bilbo Swaggins that is a no. Never on sunday and usually only 3-4 times a week. Now IT (punishment exercises) they can do everyday but sunday though they only usually do it a few times during boot camp during the first few weeks

      +GingerSailor thanks for the quick response. I ship monday.
      by the way, do they make you completely strip down again and check ur private parts again? Whether it be at 2nd MEPS on the day u ship or when u arrive at bootcamp, do they do it? I heard people say both yes and no so im confused. Reason I ask is because its uncomfortable as fuck having to strip in front of them and having them touch me lol

    • @GingerSailor
      @GingerSailor  8 лет назад

      +Bilbo Swaggins at meps, yes. At boot camp, no. well at boot camp you change into your smurfs(sweat suit) in a room with everyone else but it is very quick

      +GingerSailor I went through the whole meps processing when I enlisted originally in november of last year.
      Im going to MEPS again on monday to ship out to bootcamp. I'm wondering if I have to strip down again that day. What happens at MEPS the 2nd time you go there on your ship day?
      My friends in the navy told me they dont make u strip down again. They just take ur weight and height. No stripping whatsoever
      is this true?

      for google adsense, the monitization of is subject to terms that include language that, if flagged, can cause the account to loose its eligibility to monitized. Other platforms don't have that stipulation but take more earnings. Just figured I'd play it safe

    Great Lakes boot camp has been rebuilt. Sailors no longer march to chow, class etc... (all facilities are in their barracks) This guy is a joke. Taps (lights out) were at 2200. Reveille used to be at 0400. The "new" generation of "feel good".

    • @GingerSailor
      @GingerSailor  8 лет назад

      +J Evenden i didn't say chow or most classes weren't in the same building. I did missuse the word march, I'll give you that. More like walking in single file quietly. But as for weapons training, battle stations, marline spike, pt (well half of the time), and the pool, are all outside of the divisions ship. I graduated actual boot camp 7 months ago and literally come in contact with new boot grads every two weeks...The schedule is still the same. Taps are still at 2200 but with 8 hrs of sleep. I definitely will agree that it is a pansy schedule compared to previous generations. physically and otherwise.

      +hadley321 yeah, I regularly got up earlier to scrape the snow off my car so I could commute to the high school I taught at in indy. Part of me was glad I didn't have to get up that earlier, another part of me would have liked to have went through hell so I would atleast have a reason to brag about making it through boot camp
