    I'll be missing my daughters first birthday, but I'm using that as motivation, she won't remember her first birthday, and she'll also ultimately be living a better life. So for those who will be going through boot around the May time frame of 2016, keep in mind, it could be worse. I'll be going through with a positive mind set, even if I am unfortunately missing my daughters birthday. If it betters you, and the people around you in the end. Keep a positive mind set.

    It has been a few years since I was in but I believe physical fitness and or physical strength might not be that important. IMO, your strength of mind, your determination to succeed, your ability to follow instructions or orders are so much more important. Just my opinion, a Navy Seabee.

    I'll be the old guy too, I'm 26, but I'm on a weight loss journey to join the navy. I need to lose about 60 more lbs! This is the only goal in my life I've been proud of! And your videos are awesome, thanks for sharing.

    • @GingerSailor
      @GingerSailor  9 лет назад

      +Leroy Moody that is a heck of a goal! I believe you can do it because its been done by a bunch of people before so keep that in mind. You have the same capabilities to loose weight as almost anyone. Make a plan, stick to it, and dominate your goal. Your life will be the better for it . Good LUCK!!!!!!

    it is not marine boot camp so you'll be just fine

    Many people want to know how their Navy jobs are chosen. Easy, they're based on your ASVAB score (2 digit AFQT score) and "needs of the Navy" (current job openings). Passing scores range from 35-99, so the higher you score generally the better the job selections. Just like any other job, the Navy is seeking better qualified applicants. Medical restrictions can limit your choice of job too...you can't be color blind and be an aircrewman, EOD or SEAL. Medically, some just can't join...ever in your life take Ritalin??? Tell Mom and Dad thanks cause you can't join. Why, can't have you in a stressful situation needing meds to function...it's the military for Pete's sake.

    I take my ASVAB in San Diego on Wednesday and I'm so nervous! I'm studying right now, do you have any suggestions for how I can pass or make the process easier? I really want to be a corpsman. Thank you for all these videos! I can't wait to join!

    • @GingerSailor
      @GingerSailor  9 лет назад +1

      +FIRalexisBVB I would take the practice ASVABs listed on www.military.com/join-armed-forces/asvab you do have to sign up, but there is no charge whatsoever. I would take them, find out your weak spots and study just in the areas you are weak in. I brushed up on mechanical basics (tools and what they're used for, car parts and what they do) and electrical currents and components. If you know a little algebra the electrical stuff is easy to brush up on. For some people though, they just need to focus on what the question is ACTUALLY ASKING instead of rushing through it. when you get around to taking it, take the time to check your answers when you can. There is a time limit but if you rush through you'll just end up making stupid mistakes.

    thank you for the tips! This will be super easy for me because the absolute last thing I want is getting in trouble in boot camp lol. But I have a question, if someone is flirting with you or hates you and shows it are you allowed to report it or just keep your mouth shut? I usually keep quiet about these things but I already have enough anxiety and fear so I don't want anybody messing with me and end up getting in trouble because of them.

    I would like to know about chow, I don't care about the taste but more of the process? Was it cool and relaxed or stressful and rushed? Iv heard they make you drink all fluids first then eat your meal or if you pick up your drink you have to finish it before you set the glass back down? Seems messed up but I'm just a civilian so idk! Thanks, Matt 🇺🇸

    • @GingerSailor
      @GingerSailor  9 лет назад +1

      +Matt Harrison for navy you don't ahveany specific protocol for eating your meals unless you're in officer candidate school. You wait in line pick your food sit down and eat as you normally would. Some divisions aren't allowed to get soda but ours was. If you're heavier, the RDCs will probably pester you if you choose anything unhealthy though. As soon as the last person in the division sits down, the entire division has 12 minutes to eat before you have to leave. you usually enter the Galley in a height line from shortest to tallest, which means shorter people usually sit down first and therefore have a longer time to eat and just chill. most of the times, they make you study if you're done but it you look like you're studying, you can just sit there in silence and relax for a bit.

      +GingerSailor cool man well I'm 6'3 so looks like I won't have time to watch Netflix or chill haha but I appreciate the info. Hey man, I appreciate your old guy video in response to my comment. Greatly appreciated. I recently went to meps to pick my rate and swear in. Unfortunately, I wasn't informed by my recruiter that it is the end of the fiscal year in October. As a result of this I was only given two rate options(EM or HT). I chose EM under the impression that it is possible to re-rate after two years. I have a buddy who is in fleet as an HM. He told me that his recruiter told him the same thing, and now the fleet is saying that he must complete his first contract in its entirety before cross rating. As EM was very low on my wishlist for rates I was looking forward to switching after two years, but now I'm not sure if that's an option. Do you have any knowledge or insight on my situation? I really don't want to drop out of dep, but I also don't want to spend 5 years in a rate that I hate. I just turned 30 last week. Any info is greatly appreciated. Your videos are great!

    • @GingerSailor
      @GingerSailor  9 лет назад +1

      +soalone0024 when's your ship date? If its in more than a few months, odds are that other people will drop out of DEP and those jobs that they signed up for become available. I was offered a few and I was in DEP for 2 months. Talk with your recruiter about letting you know when one of these dropped jobs becomes available. One thing I have heard about cross rating is that you have to keep pushing for it to happen no matter what the rate. If its a highly necessary job, it is a lot harder to cross rate out of it. If your a submarine rate, its impossible unless you crossrate into another submarine job. But you have to have finished school and have been at your 1st permanent duty station for 2 yrs. the 2 yr mark doesn't start the day you ship to boot camp. In my case that means i'd be in 3yrs before I can cross rate because my schooling takes just under a yr. so that only 1to 2 yrs shy of most contracts. No matter what though, you will have a difficult time getting the ball rolling to cross rate if you don't keep pushing for it. That's apparently how most benefits work in the military as well. Push for what your entitled to. As long as you're on the surface fleet, you should be able to cross rate out of EM with moderately less hassle than other rates though. There are tons of EMs

    • @soalone0024
      @soalone0024 9 лет назад

      +GingerSailor It's about 6 months from now, 20160425. So that will leave me with plenty of time. Yeah the schooling for EM is about 4 months after graduation at RTC. That is great news. I was beginning to feel discouraged. I will definitely get on my recruiter about it ASAP. Thank you again for the info as well as the quick response.

    What would happen if I can't do push-ups . I'm pretty sure I'll get yelled at but they gave me my ship date fairly quick so I was only in dep for a few weeks . I'm just curious as to if they'll help me progress with the push-ups

    • @GingerSailor
      @GingerSailor  8 лет назад +1

      oh, they will help you. a few weeks is a enough time to get a good start though. So I'd do 3-5 sets of as many pushups as you can do every other day until you go. Even if you have to do them from the knees or any other porm of assisted pushups. I would suggest doing the same thing with various core exercises too. A stronger core makes it easier to do pushups because your core will help stabilize the rest of your body

    Alright so can I bring a razor to boot camp so I can shave? And also my own deodorant? What did you take to boot camp? So I can have an idea on what to bring I leave October 15th thank you

    • @GingerSailor
      @GingerSailor  9 лет назад

      +Armando Paz You may be able to bring your own razor and deodorant. I do believe that was on the list of allowed items. I didn't bring those things because the issue you razors, deodorant, toothbrushes, toothpaste, and all those thing regardless. I threw away my toothbrush and stuff that morning so I had a few less things to worry about. But I brought my phone, wallet (with all the personal information including birth certificate, license, social security card, bank card, voided check tucked inside) That is really all you need to bring. Check with your recruiter for a more inclusive list, but don't plan to bring a lot with you because they'll just make you send it back.

    do you ahve videos on leave in A school for SE/CF

    • @GingerSailor
      @GingerSailor  8 лет назад

      +Eric Bauer the miltary perks and holiday talk video mentions a school leave just a little but for the most part, unless you have holdiay stand down, they will not allow you to take leave while you are taking classes. If you get put in a holding division to wait on security clearance or to class up to the next round of schooling, you can take leave. If you are secf you will have to go through 4 different schools so that will be you atleast 2 or 3 times. Bess is 8 wks. ATT is 4 weeks and TCNO is 4 weeks. Your a school lenght depends on what rate you get. but in certain cases, you don't need to fill out for leave to take a 3 day weekend or even a random day off. There is something called a special liberty chit that you can fill out to skip a day if they let you, which if you're doing well in classes, they may let you. I've done that twice and been able to get a day off and go outside the liberty limits. So if its something short like that, go that route instead of using leave. If a family emergency happens, they will make an exception and give you leave. You may have to be rolled back and continue classes with another class that started after you but that is an option.

    can you wake up and prepare earlier than the other recruits?

    • @GingerSailor
      @GingerSailor  8 лет назад

      +lollipoppinn yes you can. But if too many people are out of their racks at one time when the rdc's walk in in the morning, you'll be in trouble. 7 is the number they gave us. But shaivng and brushing your teetch took the most amount of time so I would usually get up and shave then lay back down for a bit so all I had to do was make my rack and throw on whaterver clothes they wanted us to wear that day. took me usually 5-8 minutes to do that. It feels great to not have ot rush though

    • @lollipoppinn
      @lollipoppinn 8 лет назад

      GingerSailor Thank you very much! Do you have to enter boot camp at a specific time to be able to be in your desired department? (e.g hospital corpsman)

    • @GingerSailor
      @GingerSailor  8 лет назад

      +lollipoppinn Yep. Your ship date to boot camp depends on when they put you in an opening for your respective rate. That's usually why some people have to wait so long to ship out. They're waiting for an available spot in their school to open up.

    • @GingerSailor
      @GingerSailor  8 лет назад

      +lollipoppinn but you can pick your rate first, if a rate you want isn't open, make it known that you will wait for that spot to open up. Don't take something that they try to push on you if you don't want to do it.
