    Just memorized the 11 general orders, Sailor's Creed, and RTC Maxim in just two days by reading it out loud. Still gotta remember chain of command. Seems like the toughest one.

    So as a compliment to this channel, This is the most informative, easiest to watch resource I've found besides the navy's own channels. Does anyone have something similar to this or any other really good resources that are willing to share?

      It won't be easy at first, and with a family it will be hard at times. However, it will get easier and you will make it to a spot after the first year or 2 where you will be comfortable. Took me about a year or so but I love it now

    I went through in 1990... in Orlando. Shortly thereafter on to Nuke school as an ET/RO. One question; do they still pull street chits? Fun stuff... And thank you for your service...oh yeah, and is "Pork Adobo" still the main choise at the galley these days? I was also on subs...SSN-761 USS Springfield. Make sure you enjoy your fresh produce in the first couple of weeks out. If it is like it was when I was in, you won't get any after that...

      you will sleep in a larger rectangular area (called the compartment) with roughly 80 others. You have two weeks, and I should be able to answer any quetions in those two weeks. Might take me a day to get back to you but if you have any other questions, just ask

  • @thrashingjustin
    @thrashingjustin 8 лет назад +8

    Its ridiculous what questions are asked on these types of videos. You have a recruiter. Ask if you were not told. Simple as that. Dont be unsure of joining, otherwise dont join. Dont be worried about how often you can send letters. Dont be worried how long it is. Dont be worried how hard it is. Its the military. You take it hard or you go home. Dont worry about phones, food, haircuts, living conditions, days off, or anything. If you cant accept that youre going to be a SLAVE for 2 months, dont do it. The navy doesnt need people like that. I guessing its okay to be nervous but do your research before you enlist. Easy as that. Recruiters may be nice about it and all these guys on youtube but rdcs and everyone in bootcamp will not be as nice as i am. They will be quick to get you out or delay you once you show any form of weakness. This doesnt just apply to the mavy, but to the marines, army, cg, and af.

    • @thrashingjustin
      @thrashingjustin 8 лет назад

      And dont think because you get a "pad" means anything. I did not get a pad or any electonics besides the computers we use to learn. All branches bootcamps are getting easier but it doesnt mean you should too.

    I've met some Marines who hate it because they say they earned the title marine. Maybe everybody depending what branch you are in likes to properly addressed. IA can go with other branches mainly army, and active duty Navy can go IA as well as well as ADSW and TAD. My new LPO is Active but on a IA in bahrain with me. Yes I am reservist. I have a daughter with joint custody so, I was told my recruiter I have to serve two years as a reservist till I can go active as a single father. Now I'm deployed in my third year and I watched your videos as well as other to keep informed in any changes and see other people's experience.

    • @GingerSailor
      @GingerSailor  9 лет назад

      +jeffrey Cruz gotcha. Well I guess that's you staying on top of things from watching other people's experiences. I think you should make one of your own to share your point of view as a reservist stationed overseas and such. Show a more non-traditional side of the story that most people don't know much about. I'm already curious on the subject

This guy who joined the dep program AFTER me got to ship out when I didn't, I asked why, and my Cheif said, because your female, there's less of you so we don't have enough to send to camp, so we are just letting the "men" go.

    • @GingerSailor
      @GingerSailor  8 лет назад

      +Zaria Goldsmith they do make exceptions for stuff like that when they can. But generally after boot camp he will only have about 5-10hrs of free time before he has to be back on base so he can go to A-school. but he may be able to take leave for the birth of his child.

    • @GingerSailor
      @GingerSailor  8 лет назад

      +Noelle Schibetta you will not do pull ups for pt. The only exception is on the last week when you will do some sort of circuit training for pt (which is a nice break from the other crap)

    • @noelleschibetta5673

      Should I practice doing pull ups?

    • @GingerSailor

      +Noelle Schibetta pull ups themselves are a good exercise to help even out your body and help prevent musclular imbalances that could happen if you just focus on pushups but you can definitely get through boot camp without worrying about pull ups at all.

    Hi there, you mentioned you only get a few shots and it's not too bad, but others have said they get like 10 or so shots including the infamous "peanut butter" shot that is super bad. Stories about shots are really conflicting from what I read everywhere, could you clarify what they were like and how many there are?

    • @GingerSailor
      @GingerSailor  8 лет назад

      it does depend on any alergies you may have. some are allergic to penicillin so they don't get the peanut butter shot. some are allergic to some of the ingredients in the other immunizations. However, the max number you will get 5 shots over bootcamp's entirety. In some cases you may get called back to get more depending on what your rate is and where you will be stationed if you have a short A school and need them done sooner. You get three other immunizations other than the peanut butter shot. you get the peanut butter shot twice though. once at the beginning and once at the end.

    This video helped a lot! How bad is the PT though? Like is it extremely long distance runs? (Suck so much at long distance) and I get like 7:45-8 minute miles unfortunately..

    • @GingerSailor
      @GingerSailor  9 лет назад

      +RichAF 8 minute miles are more than enough to pass the fitness test. I think 12:30 is the minimum time allowed. 8 min mile would putyou on pace for 12. The PT is fairly easy and you will only run once a week really. there is a 4 min warm up run and tons of movement exercises. the warm-up exercises, to me, are harder than the rest of the pt session. warm-up consists of skipping for height, lunges, karaoke run, high knees with punches and stuff like that. towards the last few weeks you will do circuit training once a week(bit more difficult and actually a good workout. IT is harder than PT. IT (exercises you do as punishment) usually happens while you are in NWUs and boots. Sucks hard but it is over in less than 5 mins most of the time. so just suffer through it and you'll be alright.

      Don't bring anything. As soon as you get there, you will be told to strip naked in front of everyone (males and females are separated). It's humiliating and degrading, but so are the next 4 years of your life at this point. You will take whatever you brought with you, pants, shirt, wallet, socks, EVERYTHING and put it in a box, which will be shipped back to your home of record. And you WILL be charged for it. Welcome to hell.

    My wife and I were wanting to join soon. We were told two different things. One recruiter a while back ago told us that the Navy would try to keep us together. The recruiter we recently saw, told us that we would go to bootcamp at separate times and that the Navy would keep us separated (one on shore and one on a ship. When we both sign-up; Do you know if we would be separated from bootcamp until the end of the 4 year contract. We are both wanting the same rate.

    • @GingerSailor
      @GingerSailor  8 лет назад

      you would be seperated at boot camp (go in at different times) but they most likely can get you on at the same base your first term but you'd definitely be on different boats.

    • @GingerSailor
      @GingerSailor  8 лет назад

      +Brittie 1993 I made a video about it that goes into some detail about it. US navy submarine enlisted schoo is the title. I left out one crucial thing in the video though. you will go through 3 trainers along with the basic school. 1) fire trainer (training on fighting fires) 2) damage control trainer (practice on a flooding simulation) 3) escape trainer (aquatics training needed to escape a submarine. The rest of the information on the video is about all I can tell you. if you have any questions after watching it sling them my way and I'll answer them the best I can

    My recruiter seems like a great guy, but I feel like he's holding things back from me. Like I go down to meps in two weeks and I don't even know what jobs I qualified for, and I got a pretty good asvab score. Honestly I feel like I'm going in blind, he hasn't told me anything that can be helpful. Do you think he's holding something back from me?

    • @GingerSailor
      @GingerSailor  8 лет назад

      +Cierra Daniels most of the time they give you a print out of your asvab score broken down my each part. most jobs require a specific score in each of those different parts to determine if you qualify for them. My suggestion would be to go on the navy website and search each jobs requirements on the asvab. it might take a few minutes to dig them up but they are there. Find out which ones you want the most and actively tell them what you want to do. Sometimes you'll have to wait for an opening but you are allowed to wait for them. they can't make you take any job. Their job is to fill the jobs that are in high demand first so recruiters will gloss over the the rates you qualify for for that purpose. After you go to meps the 2nd time they'll sling a job offer or two your way. if you don't like them, don't take them and tell them to let you know when the rates you want open up. They may be hesitant to do this at first but you have more control over the process than they'll let on

    What is like as a damage controlman in the navy? (just thinking about joining)

    • @iamthebest147
      @iamthebest147 8 лет назад

      fix shit on the ship. if things go wrong say there is a leak from a bulk head or ruptured valves damage controlmen take care of that. they were mainly used back in the day when ship warfare was a thing. water tight integrity on the ships and keeping the ship afloat is important. DC is not a very exciting job. most people in the navy honestly dont like the ship. ship life sucks. just think about that before you join if you want to be stuck on a big metal box.
