It was me who said that. I had lost my voice (work-stress caused GERD) and was just trying to take a break from work and see the Aptera in person for the first time. I tried to stay away from Audra and Chris (who were interviewing people at the tail end of the car, so I ducked low to snap shots of the insides of the front wheels. But when I got up, Audra was right there asking me for an interview! By the time she ask for three words to describe this awesome vehicle, all I could manage was a pathetic and cracked "I can't wait". Sorry! Actually I'm a long-time reservation holder (since Feb 2022), and have been a long time avid fan of Aptera . I will say that if one is on the fence about the Aptera, at least consider this: Within just a few more years, EV's will become ubiquitous. The demand (the price) for grid electricity will surely increase, and EV charging stations will likely be jammed until charging station rates rise enough to bring demand/supply equilibrium there as well. Similarly, the consumer costs for home solar/powerwall/EV charger systems will also rise (even with government rebates factored in). But with Aptera's 700 watt solar charging coming from its full complement of solar panels (on roof, dash, hood and hatch), you're good for the average daily commute (about 30 miles, and 40 miles max). It will also have connections for additional folding solar panels, to more than double the solar range (i.e. 60-80 miles/day). The Aptera will get over 100 miles a night on a common 110vac wall socket. (I.e. No need to purchase home EV charging systems and incur high electric bills that other EV owners must experience.) Without having to pay the $500/month ($6,000/year) of gas and ICE car maintenance costs, the Aptera will have paid for itself in less than 6 years. After that, you're basically driving for free (so long as the sun still shines - let's hope Yellowstone doesn't blow up). But at the same a few years from now, those with EV's like the Ford F150EV and Hummer EV and even the Mustang EV will be permanently parked outside with zero resale value because they're too costly to charge and needlessly taking up space in the garage. They'll be oxidizing in the sun rather than using the sun's power for transportation propulsion.
"Let There Be Light" is a science fiction short story by Robert A. Heinlein, originally published in Super Science Stories magazine in May 1940 under the pseudonym Lyle Monroe. The story concerns the invention of "light panels" - devices that turn electrical power directly into light (similar to electroluminescent displays, invented in 1949[1]). During their discovery, the inventors also discovered that these panels could also be used to derive power from light. He also used them to power cars. As the first mass produced SEV to market (hopefully), the Aptera practically redefines what is possible in transportation. Aptera could go down in history with the three words, "A game changer".
Up front . . . I love the car, have ordered my 600 mile version and am an accellerator. The 1 thing about this video I was concerned about is that the Aptera people do not emphsize the limited solar capability. Many people seem to thing it will not have to be charged at all. I do not think anyone is actually lead on but 40 miles a day is not that far. Don't get me wrong, I AM VERY EXCITED ABOUT THIS COMING OUT & getting my car!
Some way off, but I can see Aptera's technology being applied in countries that don't yet have either large electricity grids, or (any) grids at all, in large parts of their nations. Just as much of the developing world skipped telephone landline infrastructure and went straight to mobile telephony, I can see something similar happen with electric transportation adoption in say, Africa for example. Why waste time and resources when distributed renewables and batteries can take most of the strain and something like Aptera's technology can do the rest?
My reservation is in. No lack of sun in South Florida. The A/C will have to be very efficient too, if it's parked outside all day. We usually tint the windows here even if there is factory tinted glass.
I am curious for the first practical comparison "how hot does the white, silver, black variant get when sitting in the sun" and how the cooling system can cope with that. Will be interesting whether it makes a big difference, considering the solar panels are the same (I assume all have full solar).
@ThomasWaldmann I've heard one of their engineers mention that the carbon fiber smc that the body is made out is A very good insulator and that the light vs dark won't make a difference.

Always charging.i won't editorialize on Aptera's claim. They say up to 40 miles/day. I think thst is possible in thr summer month of you have unobstructed sunlight. Solar exposure is higher from late spring to early fall and drops off in the winter. I think Aptera estimates you can get up to 8,000 tp 10,000 miles a year depending where you live. I’m curious to understand what thermal event safety is in place the protect the driver and passenger from any malfunction of the battery. Hopefully will last 25 years or longer like solar . And what would I haft to do in areas like I live when we get snow they put down salt how would be the best way to maintain the car to keep it as long as possible. If you can’t tell I’m really excited for this to come. Hopefully the battery pack will be upgradable so later on if you wanted a bigger size you could go that route along with battery tech improvements that are soon to happen to get the best range. Hopefully everything gets rolling soon.
You guys missed a golden opportunity by not putting this vehicle on a nationwide tour this summer. Social media can help but having people outside of California put their hands on this vehicle and having it at other events like new car shows and large scale community events and let the visitors from those events grow the brand would be significant. Aptera is unique, not just the vehicle but the philosophy as well. Don’t let others frame the narrative as ‘it’s a California thing’. While many outside of California, including myself, have reservations it could be so much more. If you can’t tell, I am extremely disappointed with the current reach of the program. I want this vehicle to be a success. I would also like to take possession of my reservation. That will not happen if you don’t overtly push the envelope.
I have to agree - but it looks like with only 1 Gamma, and the three Alphas (Noir, Luna and Sol) now too dated and now a bit non-representative of the Delta, I'm guess this Calif coastline coverage was deemed all they could viably do with just one vehicle?
I really want one, but my wife doesn’t like that it’s only a two seater. I mean, come on, do both of us have to go to the airport to pick up someone? And how many times is just me and the wife driving somewhere? And road trips, omg, that would be so cool. Please let me test one here in Colorado = heat / cold, ice and snow, camping, dirt roads, crappy roads and weather. Please let me test an Aptera here in Colorado.
You guys need to tour the vehicle outside of California. Most of the people I speak with living in north Alabama have never heard of the company and not having followed the company since alpha like I have most believe it some start up that will never hit production. The people that do not believe in climate change and do not like the feeling of electric vehicles being forced on them we’ll have to learn more about the technology and understand the benefits to realize that electric vehicles were not only our past but will again be our future.
Did you notice they didn't show solar charging? They only go to quirky street fairs where there aren't knowledgeable car people. Does the Aptera rep look like she ever serviced a vehicle?
Video is nice, so far. But for me it would be much more interesting to know about the actual financial situation. Is there already any update? Still "only" the 20 million USD to start production? For me it looks like there was no progress in regards of financial situation within the last months. For this reason it is useless to make more progress as long as there is not enough money for production. But, as some other comments say, more commercial, especially in social media should be made, to improve the interest of some investors.
It‘s funny to see how many people are excited for solar panels on the car. In Europe you will not have any significant benefit out of this. Solar Panels on your house costs less than 1000$ per kWp and streets are very narrow in cities so you only have couple of Hours sun shining on the panels. I wish they would make a smaller aptera for europe, with three phase AC 11kW charger and about 50kW DC charging. Battery capacity should be around 18kWh (250km), 25kWh (350km) and 35kWh (480km). Bigger batteries just increase the weight and handling and more Range isn‘t necessary. It also would reduce the cost by a margin.
Good insight. Aptera has quite an identity problem. The solar is best as a small battery extender. While touting efficiency, the car is way over powered thus heavy motors and oversized battery. 3rd wheel adds 50% more tracking in already wide car. No trailer hitch option for small vehicle, something you Europeans are good with. BYD Seagull checks more boxes if it proves safe.
i don't have a problem with the power output and even though we have many small cars with trailer hitches it's not really necessary in real world use for 95% of population. i see aptera mainly in cities for people who barely use a car (but still own one), because public transport is much better here in europe than in the us or as a second car in suburbs. for me a efficient car as aptera just doens't need a big battery. they say the 60kWh version will weigh around 1800 lbs. so by decreasing the battery size by half it would weigh atleast 400 lbs less which would lower rolling resistance which is the major factor when driving low speeds. if you do the maths: decreasing by 400 lbs from 1800 lbs to 1400 lbs with an average of speed of 20 mph (normal in cities with traffic/traffic lights) you would need 10-15% less energy, so increasing range per kWh. although many people say they would need more than 250 miles range, i would say more than 90% take a break of 10-15 minutes every 2 to 3 hours when doing long distance trips. enough to charge. @@artsmith103
@@Tobjuc Aptera isn't very forthright with info. They deffinitily aren't honest about rating all battery weights at the same 10 miles/kWh. I expect them to range between 6-8 miles/kWh depending on normal use conditions. Regarding weight, I think the 2wd 25kWh model is 1,800 lbs. I estimated 42kWh 3wd LE at 2,200 lbs.
Mooie bak! De grote brandstof multinationals zullen dit soort wagens nooit toelaten. De Amerikaanse regering zal wel iets verzinnen om dit soort wagens extra te belasten via belastingen. Wacht even met juichen.
I'm a reservation holder, and I ditto @johnhaynes3314 reply on the question of side-wind handling. Co-CEO Chris A. mentioned that due to its rounded sides, side winds would flow around the body rather than buffet it back and forth. However I'm guessing that the relatively flat, slab-sided front wheel pants might be pushed around a bit by heavy cross winds. (I'm planning on some counter steering in this case.)
Having a 2nd complete input device complicates the supply chain (the yoke contains the airbag and control wiring etc). Better to just add some threaded inserts on the back of the yoke so you can bolt a $50 piece that bolts onto the top to round it out. I like the idea of the yoke but they should do something for those that don't want it.
Give it circular headlights, circular tail lights and a small engine to charge the battery. . Slightly longer with amazing quality sound insulated too?
As a person who just got their reservation refunded.... you should give these people the full scope of production and funding deadlines since fall 2022. Save the world? But refuses to move to a cheaper cost, safer and more cycles battery chemistry. Wanted to use tesla connector to make a wave then actually made a wave that customers had to stop when trying to deliver without dc fast charging. I'm off this crazy train but definitely wish you good luck. Please let 3rd parties verify the safety of the autocycle on public roads. Also was not happy you guys reduced overall power output and 0-60 time without notice or change in cost, so same cost with less performance. Super nervous the next thing to go is Rousch performance having their name on your suspension. Those were 2 big selling points when we configured an aptera fall 2021
I cant believe NO ONE is commenting on the absolute abominable window/ door horizontal pillar that is DIRECTLY in your line of vision. How can that be something that none of the engineers have worked through. You can clearly see users trying to duck down to look through. I am an early depositor and investor so I DO believe in the tricar solar but I wont be comfortable driving not being able to see out either side because of that blockage.
in full solar package the rear window gets covered by the panels, with the front nose, the dash and the rear section covered that is enough for the up to 40 miles(location dependent) on a full sunny day
The thing is to trickle charge with 700 Watt every single day of the year. That makes free energy for over 10k miles per year if you are in California or still more than 5k miles per year if the climate is really not sunny at all. For topping up quickly you still can go to the super charger or even your normal power outlet at home.
@@charangohabsburg1 My concern is how much of that power neeeds to go to security cameras to keep it safe. Tersla sentry mode uses a constant 250-300w. It will be a vandalism magnet. I'd hapily have no solar on the aptera; it can charge with 120v just fine.

Hopefully the battery pack will be upgradable so later on if you wanted a bigger size you could go that route along with battery tech improvements that are soon to happen to get the best range. Hopefully everything gets rolling soon.
Luckily I put my deposit down 2 years ago! 😎
You should do an event in Florida.....the sunshine state
Is the car still there in Huntington Beach over the weekend?
We aren't at Huntington Beach anymore. Check out aptera.us/events for the latest.
Aptera- Fusion Charged. Now that is 3 words.
1:02 oh, hello there
You guys missed a golden opportunity by not putting this vehicle on a nationwide tour this summer.
It would be cool to see it tour through state fairs. Eventually it will make it to the big car shows.
I have to agree - but it looks like with only 1 Gamma, and the three Alphas (Noir, Luna and Sol) now too dated and now a bit non-representative of the Delta, I'm guess this Calif coastline coverage was deemed all they could viably do with just one vehicle?
They always have next summer and the summer after that. Production isn't starting any time soon.
@@Okurka. It would seem that the Aptera is a lot like FSD. It’s always next year.
Can’t wait to not paying gas for lots of errands. But will keep my ICE for backups.
whats the price
Can you send a pair of those green sunglasses to all shareholders ? 😎😊
I have a deposit on an Elio that will never come to market,so I hope this actually roll out
You make bad decisions.
You guys need to tour the vehicle outside of California. Most of the people I speak with living in north Alabama have never heard of the company and not having followed the company since alpha like I have most believe it some start up that will never hit production. The people that do not believe in climate change and do not like the feeling of electric vehicles being forced on them we’ll have to learn more about the technology and understand the benefits to realize that electric vehicles were not only our past but will again be our future.
i looove this car. but it comes to my mind if this car is only really useful in the summer and/or in California ^^
Up the hype Apterra it’s uphill challenge ahead
Want one of these, I'm in the UK though :(
So plug it in at night… BOOM, done
@@johnhayes3314I meant they arent anywhere near ready to drop them over here yet in RHD, surprisingly it wasn't a dig on the crappy UK weather lol
Since it's not a car it's too wide to be road legal in the UK.
💚💚💚
Aptera is super cool. This video was abit dorky. I think you should get video driving on a track day.
Did you notice they didn't show solar charging? They only go to quirky street fairs where there aren't knowledgeable car people. Does the Aptera rep look like she ever serviced a vehicle?
at this point, aptera certainly IS the future... which is too bad since i paid out for one and its not in the present.
Please bring this to canada at a reasonable price point
Can I visit the HQ end of this month??
Video is nice, so far. But for me it would be much more interesting to know about the actual financial situation. Is there already any update? Still "only" the 20 million USD to start production? For me it looks like there was no progress in regards of financial situation within the last months. For this reason it is useless to make more progress as long as there is not enough money for production. But, as some other comments say, more commercial, especially in social media should be made, to improve the interest of some investors.
When does production start?
@@Tobjuc What's you're thoughts about the Aptera's 88" width on Europe's city and country roads?
@@a5-30-31cts That makes it illegal to drive on European roads.
I’m stilll waiting…….. I pre order king ego
Mooie bak! De grote brandstof multinationals zullen dit soort wagens nooit toelaten. De Amerikaanse regering zal wel iets verzinnen om dit soort wagens extra te belasten via belastingen. Wacht even met juichen.
Lately it feels as if deliveries will start late 2025 mid 2026 based on the progress shown and founding accumulated
That's optimistic.
It looks great but one thing crossed my mind how is it to drive in areas that get a lot of wind?
The aerodynamic shape will make it better than all cars in crosswinds
I'm a reservation holder, and I ditto @johnhaynes3314 reply on the question of side-wind handling. Co-CEO Chris A. mentioned that due to its rounded sides, side winds would flow around the body rather than buffet it back and forth. However I'm guessing that the relatively flat, slab-sided front wheel pants might be pushed around a bit by heavy cross winds. (I'm planning on some counter steering in this case.)
when will the production line start and we can see them on the road?
2045.
Next year. Validation builds start this year
Will this be able to go over speed bumps?
Please add a round steering option, Tesla is doing this for their models S and X
"Small engine" !!!! WTF! That would defeat the entire purpose of the vehicle. Have you isolated yourself from all global news?
Congratulations! There are better options to enable your life.
@@artsmith103 Educate yourself, Aptera is a vaporware investment scam
Feel better ?
@@garywozniak7742 Well, he's not letting Chris and Steve live a lavish lifestyle on his zero interest loan anymore...
The people who have gotten rides in it have commented on it. They say it's fine.
Three words...
What's the payload???
I believe I saw 700 pounds in a previous video
@@johnhayes3314 That's two Americans.
@@Okurka.conveniently it happens to be a two seater.
I thought this was supposed to be in production a year ago? Well we have lots of crude oil so drill baby drill!
This car is fantastic but the Solar skin is to small to charge the battery alone in a short time.
in full solar package the rear window gets covered by the panels, with the front nose, the dash and the rear section covered that is enough for the up to 40 miles(location dependent) on a full sunny day
The thing is to trickle charge with 700 Watt every single day of the year.
LOVE Your INNOVATIONS !
I HOPED this Company will LEADS the WAY to becoming a SUCCESSFUL Solar Vehicles Company and the WHOLE WORLD will be driving Electric Solar Vehicles!!!

Three words are: "where is it?" We've been talking about now for three years.
Just a heads up, the cars on your local dealer lot took 3-4 years to develop, and this is a bespoke vehicle
If solar is so important, why no solar cells on the rear hatch?
My 3 words: No Solar Demonstrated
wouldn't it be cool if they actually produced the car? instead of spending money making vids?
Very
Honedtly, I don't know if I could see that from my truck and I would probably wind up running over one. Needs to be bigger and safer, but I like the idea of solar infinitely better than EV, which are plain awful.
The front wheels are about 86" a part and it is nearly 15 feet long.
You can’t see people either. I wonder if it would be possible to resize them, or maybe your truck!?
Let see what the pov is from the driver because i think its poor because of the egg shape
