A world without reliable grid infrastructure, making both electricity, and fossil fuels (which require gas station electric pumps for fueling and sometimes extraction) much more difficult to find. In truth this world already exists in India, South East Asia, much of the Middle East, Polynesia, Melanesia, and Africa. Billions of people currently live in this world. I hope Aptera has plans to eventually address this large, highly profitable, and lucrative market. No, you cannot wrap the solar panels: The panels are one-piece units with blue-ish colored solar cells embedded within them. The base color under the cells is black.
I would be amazed if there was some kind of program that factored in the compass orientation of the car and used the self-driving cameras on the surroundings and the predicted position of the sun in order to estimate how much solar power the car gets. That would be a triumph.
3 things concern me. Chicago level potholes. Chicago level winters. And crash safety (air bags, crumple zones, etc.) Any insight would be great because I REALLY want to get one of these!
Myth a completely finished product is required to test Aprera's claims or theories. It seems kinda silly that a 90+% production ready prototype like the gamma can't prove their efficiency is at least close to the claims.
Great info Quincy! I had watched a previous clip where one of the Founders mentioned that the templates for the "Skins" would be available for future wraps. Is that still the case? Also there was mentioned that there are small channels in the body for release of cabin air. Wont the "Skins" prevent that? Question, questions I know but that's because I'm excited to own an Aptera & no one to talk too! ;)
Thanks for the info Quin. I'd love to see Aptera availability in different color wraps i.e. bright orange, pastel green or hot pink colors. I have more questions: does the front windshield is replaceable by owner or have to send back to Aptera for replacing it? And does the top part of windshield, windows and rear hatch glass come tinted with mirror like film to protect from heat and uv? And is there anyway to upgrade the front windshield with automatic shade-tech while parking under hot sun? So no more buying windshield covers. And is there any option to upgrade to ballistic grade glasses and body panels? I mean something like bulletproof. Just wondering though 🤔 Anyway, love your debunk vidoes.
Will the SC handshake be seamless like with a Tesla or will the Tesla app be required for a manual authorization? It would be wonderful if Tesla supported the Aptera vehicle ids. Half of what makes the SC network great is not having to do anything except plug in.
She rocks! Lots of fun and education packed into one video. We're so excited to experience our launch edition Aptera here in BC Canada! (PS - keep pressuring US and Canadian governments to include Aptera for EV tax credits. It's worth it!).
Great video and information. This should allow the worry warts to fret less. One thing not mentioned, I thought we could also charge the vehicle from simple 120 volt at home as well, and did not need a specialized charger or cord etc.
Our Launch Edition Aptera can be charged by plugging in at home to a standard 110V and 120V or 220V and 240V outlet. We plan for Aptera to be compatible with J1772, Level 2, and Level 3 DC Fast Charge stations. And to ship the vehicle with a charging adapter so that you can charge it anywhere. ⚡
So you may be able to plug into a Tesla charging station but has Aptera opened contracts with Tesla to actually be allowed to charge on their Network? Tesla automobiles create a handshake between the charger and the car anytime charging is happening at a charging station. How does Aptera plan to do this, through the Tesla App? Tesla only recently opened their network to 3rd party EVs and only stations with magic docks attached. Not only will Aptera have to get approved, but they will specifically need to not have the magic dock automatically select the CSS standard when charging. I feel like these questions need to be addressed more than anything else in relation to charging.
If Tesla was smart they would make it extremely seamless for Aptera because other companies would see how easy it was and adopt NACS. I am almost sure that they will make it easy, but it would be reassuring and interesting to hear from Aptera (or Tesla I guess) how it will be done.
I don't understand this question. Tesla announced that they are opening up their charging network and Aptera subsequently announced that they are adopting the NACS standard. Part of that standard is the software interface between vehicle, app and charger, no? Opening the network means enabling software integration as well as hardware, right?
@@EdwardBartel The NACS standard is just the charging port, not access to the Supercharger network. There isn't much clarity on what "opening the network" means at this time. Tesla has agreed to have 7500 Superchargers have CCS adapters installed by the end of 2024 in order to receive government grant dollars, but that's the only commitment they've made. Aptera has committed to using the NACS port, but there haven't been any announcements made about Supercharger access.
I've said it before, I love that this company uses their employees in these videos and not just some talking head P.R. type who knows nothing about the actual product.
I didn't realize the sides are wrapped and not the top. Then it seems the wrap doesn't cover the solar panels. I was thinking when the wrap gets old it would block light to the solar panels and would need to be replaced, but it seems now that won't be a problem.
Hey Quincy, well done! I have a few recommendations as a Comms Strategist: -you're not quite centered and not quite on the third. Is that intentional? -Think about where in the AIDA loop customers who are viewing this video are currently. Some of your messaging was too introductory (#4 should've been omitted, "The car has solar panels, so park it in the sun"), while some of it was very pertinent to purchase decisions. -You demonstrated that the Tesla power cord could reach, but did not show it's actually charging the vehicle. If that's not in the cards right now, it would build trust to acknowledge that reality instead of avoiding it. -good job being customer centric, but try to paint a picture of an experience the customer can see themselves in, instead of using abstract ideas like "all about freedom". -also consider your Jungian Archetype when you write. "All about freedom" sounds like a Rebel Archetype, a la Harley Davidson. I got the sense that Aptera was chasing a Wizard Archetype... Or maybe you haven't chosen one for your brand identity yet? Overall, this campaign is being run pretty solidly, and I'm excited for the product. However, I think there's an opportunity for someone with an exacting background (like an ex-SCCA TA2 racing mechanic) to help dial in your messaging.
5 to 10 years life expectancy instead of 10 to 20 or more years for a painted car that see's occasional washing and waxing. A minor parking lot ding that a little DIY touch-up paint, wet sanding followed by a quick buff will take care of on a painted finish might require the wrap be completely replaced on that part of the vehicle so collision repair in a minor event could become more costly on a wrapped vehicle. To be fair it does eliminate the most costly and pollution generating aspect of manufacturing automobiles which is the paint shop. Now if they have a recycling program for the wrap set up so that it can be made into trim boards, etc and kits are made available to DIY repair or replace it then it would make great sense for me. Note that the 20 year old car in my driveway (that has lived out in the Harsh Florida Sun its entire life and only gets a few washings and waxings a year to keep it presentable) still has the factory paint on it and is not in need of refinishing. Best!

Ah come on, you're not supposed to give away the secret! We push the gloomy image just to keep people from moving here and filling it up. Sadly, it's not working very well.
I understand the concern about this because there aren't that many places that do vinyl wrapping and it can be costly when you do find someone. I've wrapped a couple of my own cars and I would estimate if you do it yourself it could be done for as little as $200-$250, including tools like heat gun and squeegees, etc.
There is indeed something to watching that video when it is muted! 😂 Recommended soundtrack: just any weather report, but preferrably with a sunny forecast.
Has Aptera officially brokered a deal with Tesla for access to the Supercharger network? With an NACS plug, we will need a “NACS nonTesla” option in the App so that the Aptera is recognized on the SC network, and, if at a MagicDock station, the NACS (without the CCS adapter) is released from the charging station. I had not heard any announcements about an agreement & process being created to allow non-Tesla NACS cars to charge on the SC network.
Aptera is the ultimate vehicle for a renter. 120V will provide more than enough power (unlike other EVs). I am a little concerned she said "select supercharger locations"; Without full access to the tesla DCFC network CCS adapters will be very important for roadtrips.
@@davidmaddon554 were that the case she wouldn't have said "select" . Very likely this will be the same subset ss magocdock which gives Aptera by far the fewest chargers. 3500 superchargers by end of 2024 is roughly the same as the entire network in 2014. Hopefully Aptera will be ccs adapter compatible but we don't have a definitive statement on that.
She said it for legal reasons. Regardless, you'll be able to use every CCS1 and J1772 station via the adapter, and charging infrastructure providers will soon start adding more native NACS handles at their locations.
@@ccibinel not true. I did not say every super charger will be open. I said you will be able to travel anywhere in the USA and use the Tesla supercharger network.
I don't like how low those fenders are to the ground. In a perfect world, dips don't exist, but in my home down there are some really damn extreme dips going into parking lots or between streets, which make it near impossible from scratching your front bumper.
I cant wait for these to drop in the UK, our weathers globally known as being crappy, even with that said, I do 15 miles a day which should still be good...
Just a thought, with the open pilot system, would it be possible for an Aptera to move itself around a carpark to get the best solar exposure, or at least some sort of system in the car that could tell you the best direction to face the car in, based on GPS location, time of year etc, to get the most exposure while parked?
$158 per year for me, which is false because it doesn't take into account the cost of my transportation energy, which is way lower than grid energy (like 60-70% lower). I'm not interested in this thing for savings in dollars.
I would like to know if there is a way to monitor your solar cells so that if one isn't functioning, could it be easy to replace rather than replace the entire bonnet
I believe they said awhile ago that, if one solar cell fails, it will be electronically removed with minor degradation to the whole. They also said that is true of the battery pack.
I know what you mean. That is great background music to hold us in suspense. The Aptera could have backed up just a little more to match what the Teslas are doing although I would be afraid to back up my Aptera into a fixed object like a Supercharger. The rear right and rear left are high up in the air and it may be difficult to know exactly where the rear corners are when reversing.
Model 3 owner here. THANK YOU for using NACS instead of CCS1. I cannot believe legacy auto & Rivian are still using that god forsaken port. By the way, for everyone uninformed, Tesla has said *repeatedly* that Superchargers will gladly serve NACS vehicles without the need for Magic Dock. Check the last paragraph of Tesla's "Opening the North American Charging Standard" blog post, for example. Additionally, we will probably see Aptera put in their own fast NACS stations around the country soon enough, and they only have to be 50 kW to get 500 mph charging speeds. Awesome & efficient!
How about letting everyone know how long the average paint job lasts? I think people poo-poo on the idea of wraps only because they are somehow under the assumption that paint is durable and lasts through sun damage, scratches, etc.
i'm a potential buyer, love the car, but fear there is a topic that should be addressed: the front-wheels-attaching-structures are too fragile and the exposed position (224cm wide) will lead to more unwanted "contacts"... i hope there is a way to create a euro-aptera which fits european traffic surroundings (eg. shrinking width)
One concern I have is the strength of the glass/solar panels on the front hood. I had a golf ball sized piece of metal debris coming at me on the highway the other day and dinged up my hood.
I'll get negativity for this but it's not a lot of surface area to be wrapped on the Aptera nor complex curves, and most people could probably rewrap it themselves for not much money if they took a little time to learn about wrapping. I'm 59 and I've wrapped a couple of my own cars and it's quite fun and you can change it whenever you want.
There's going to be a lot of waste wrap if you buy a cheap kit meant for normal cars. Buying a special aptera sized wrap will probably be more expensive even if it's less material. Even if wrap technically last 5 years the glue usually requires solvents to remove 3. More and more waste and pollution. I doubt it's hard to do, just takes patience, time, and the ability to learn/try. Reasons people often pay professionals
@@johndopamine7614 Wrap comes in 5' widths. The area on the Aptera looks to be less than 2.5 ft wide although I can't be sure of that, but if that's the case you can do both sides with one length of wrap. It's how the bumpers are done on a typical car, one length cut along the middle will do both bumpers.
Bring these to the EU, and Asia ASAP. Yes I'd love to see Aptera succeed, but it'll be worth more when the designs and tooling become widely used globally in the near term.
Still no contract with Tesla allowing Aptera owners to use Superchargers beyond those that will be equipped with the "Magic Dock". It would be very weird if we had to use a CCS adapter to access those.

Also, good to know that 20 miles a day even in gloomier environments is normal! Excited to see what else y'all come out with.
Among the color options is a customized wrap. I'm sure you can specify any color in the pantone palette and find the right color to suit your needs.
No, you cannot wrap the solar panels: The panels are one-piece units with blue-ish colored solar cells embedded within them. The base color under the cells is black.
A wrap that looks like additional solar might be interesting.
@@by9917 Would kinda look like a close up of carbon fiber or something like that... :)
The launch edition will come with a silver wrap, but you can certainly get your own that’s any color you want.
Thanks for clearing up those myths!
Thank You for All that you are doing for our Planet Earth.... Peace.. Shalom.. Salam.. Namaste 🙏🏻 😊 🌈 ✌ ☮ ❤
Thank you these were useful. Especially in regard to charging.
That was good! I was wondering about the wrap.
Regarding Sun Charging, what about setting up a couple outside mirrors that add to the amount of sun exposure the Aptera receives?
Can I charge my Aptera from my house 110 AC while it is parked in the driveway in the sunlight, or is it only one charging source at a time?
This way lies Archimedes
Thxs for this video and the transparency
Myth a completely finished product is required to test Aprera's claims or theories.
It seems kinda silly that a 90+% production ready prototype like the gamma can't prove their efficiency is at least close to the claims.
Awesome 👏🏻
My question is, can Aptera go off-road easily or go over speed bumps easily?
I've see drives with pretty good speed bumps. In Switzerland they drove through light snow, maybe 3" on the ground.
@@thewheelieguy but with the wheel covers it just LOOKS like it really shouldn't be able to go over big speed bumps
Just wondering though 🤔
Anyway, love your debunk vidoes.
$13,000 a year for me! Just discovered your brand a few days ago and so into it!
Will the SC handshake be seamless like with a Tesla or will the Tesla app be required for a manual authorization? It would be wonderful if Tesla supported the Aptera vehicle ids. Half of what makes the SC network great is not having to do anything except plug in.
Honestly, this is pretty well done.
Yo estoy en P.R.aqui es sol todo el tiempo
Level 1 charging at home is possible with a 110v plug.
The worry warts will always find something to fret about.
Nah, the worry warts will worry no matter what anyone says. It's in their blood.
I was hoping Sandy Monroe's color admission was going to prevent a wrap, but that's OK, way better than paint.
Aptera had announced they will support charging on Tesla network like a year back. For sure this is the first thing they would have built in.
I think it’s going to work out alright. Not being able to access the main network that uses NACS would be a pretty huge oversight.
Great video, love the editing!
They have said that the wrap does not cover the solar cells.
5-10 years is NOT a long time. Myth confirmed.
Hey Quincy, well done! I have a few recommendations as a Comms Strategist:
-you're not quite centered and not quite on the third.
Can’t wait to buy mine!!🤓
Great video! I recommend inputting manual closed captions.
New video! We want to buy the cars already! ❤
Wrapping the car is a brilliant idea. I don’t know why more manufacturers don’t offer that.
It's not as durable as paint and the idea of replacement scares a lot of people.
@@bmos02 It's hardly eco-friendly either, being made from PVC, one of the most toxic plastics to make and dispose of.
@@ledsalesoz Interesting.
Best!

The biggest argument AGAINST wraps,, but,, it’s understandable why they’re going this route at least initially.
"..even the.gloomiest places like Seattle or Ireland..." As a Seattleite, here's my obligatory "it's not as gloomy as they say it is" post. I'll see myself out. 🙃
Ah come on, you're not supposed to give away the secret! We push the gloomy image just to keep people from moving here and filling it up. Sadly, it's not working very well.
Do we know what the re-wrap cost estimation is going to be in 5 yrs?
I understand the concern about this because there aren't that many places that do vinyl wrapping and it can be costly when you do find someone. I've wrapped a couple of my own cars and I would estimate if you do it yourself it could be done for as little as $200-$250, including tools like heat gun and squeegees, etc.
Acing the body language skillz, Quincy!
There is indeed something to watching that video when it is muted! 😂
Recommended soundtrack: just any weather report, but preferrably with a sunny forecast.
How about debunking the myth that you're going to actually go into production and sell them. I've been waiting and waiting and waiting...FOR YEARS!!
Can’t wait for this car to never release in the promised format
Aptera is the ultimate vehicle for a renter. 120V will provide more than enough power (unlike other EVs). I am a little concerned she said "select supercharger locations"; Without full access to the tesla DCFC network CCS adapters will be very important for roadtrips.
You will be able to charge at super chargers all across the country by the time Aptera is produced.
@@ccibinel Yes, she specifically mentioned that Aptera is able to use CCS adapters. This has been stated by Aptera management almost since day 1.
You mentioned Ireland, but when are you bringing them here? I would love to try one.
Cooler than a cybertruck.
Cybertruck is simply an expression of Elon’s oversized ego. 😆🤮
I don't like how low those fenders are to the ground. In a perfect world, dips don't exist, but in my home down there are some really damn extreme dips going into parking lots or between streets, which make it near impossible from scratching your front bumper.
Facts beats fiction every time. Thanks for the truth bombs!
I can't speak to Seattle, but Ireland Gloomy! The cheek of it! Don't know whether Seattle's citizens or the Irish should be more offended. 😊
The wrap is cool that it van have different colors.
One question I have is that the Make is Aptera, is the Model also Aptera?
Yes, they currently think like that. IMHO, it would be better to have a model name also.
Can’t wait!
According to your calculator about $3K per year. Nice.
$158 per year for me, which is false because it doesn't take into account the cost of my transportation energy, which is way lower than grid energy (like 60-70% lower).
I'm not interested in this thing for savings in dollars.
I’m in south Florida so… ;) 🙌
I would like to know if there is a way to monitor your solar cells so that if one isn't functioning, could it be easy to replace rather than replace the entire bonnet
I believe they said awhile ago that, if one solar cell fails, it will be electronically removed with minor degradation to the whole. They also said that is true of the battery pack.
Gloomiest places like Seattle. No lie detected.
2:30 I'm not gonna lie, right up until the very last second I had no idea which way this was going to go
I know what you mean.
Love this vehicle the most GOGO Aptera 😊
I think more companies will see the benefit of wraps. Will European and British vehicles come with CCS charge sockets? Even Tesla uses them here.
So when will production start
I liked the myth#3 in music and slow mode.
2001 A Space Odyssey music would have work too.
Thanks!
See the video where they had just done a "high speed" 45° slam into a curb. It flattened the tires but didn't hurt the suspension.
One concern I have is the strength of the glass/solar panels on the front hood. I had a golf ball sized piece of metal debris coming at me on the highway the other day and dinged up my hood.
See their video where they blast a solar panel with large ice balls. Pretty impressive.
CORRECTION
Myth wrap isn't very durable:
Confirmed it's only expected to last 5-10 years.
At BEST!
@@johndopamine7614 No, it doesn't require solvents to remove, just peel off. There is no glue residue, pristine paint surface.
I love the aptera but are we gonna get the off road version soon ?
"select supercharger locations"

Not under Aptera's control.
Gracias❤
Bring these to the EU, and Asia ASAP. Yes I'd love to see Aptera succeed, but it'll be worth more when the designs and tooling become widely used globally in the near term.
It's too wide to legally be allowed on EU roads.
2:00 "Select" Supercharger locations?
Still no contract with Tesla allowing Aptera owners to use Superchargers beyond those that will be equipped with the "Magic Dock". It would be very weird if we had to use a CCS adapter to access those.
@@robertkirchner7981 indeed it'll be weird and very restricting for the scale of SC network
It would be overly ambitious to say ALL at this stage of the game.
How much weight does the larger range batteries add?
How much does this affect the efficiency of miles per kWh?

I understand it isn't environmentally friendly to paint vehicles, but how environmentally friendly is it to throw away and produce another wrap for the vehicle every 5-10 years?
