I'm slightly obsessed with Aptera's EV, and I must say, this is the best video I've seen of it. Most others seem very restricted in what they can show, but you clearly got a true behind-the-scenes look at the company.
I've known about Aptera for quite a while, and have been looking forward to it. This video has me even more excited. Definitely the best video I have seen on Aptera. I always love the tiny home videos, but putting this level of quality into videos about anything interesting is worth it. Please do some more cutting edge enviro-tech videos. This was great!

I fully support them with a 1000 shares to back up my word 😁 One reason they will make it is that they now have access to new tech that makes it a really appealing offer. Another REALLY BIG reason it will happen is the expertese of Sandy Munro of mass producing.
That aggressive handling demonstration really cemented my opinions on this, I've seen this car in a couple videos before but none ever went into detail on the many things this video did. I had the presumption that three wheels were inherently unstable at extremely highspeeds and especially while making turns but this proved that assumption completely wrong, this is a great and extremely fascinating piece of technology and engineering. I hope this company succeeds cuz if they do then the future is gonna look that much more cooler
@Adam Ridama Most of the improvement comes from having the single wheel in the back and most of the weight over/in the front 2 wheels. The Robin was just a dumb idea from its inception.
@A R My cousins and I had Honda 50cc 3 wheel ATVs when we were 8-10 years old in the 70s. I still marvel that we survived childhood with only minor cosmetic permanent injuries!🤣

@@TheGreatOldOak A single wheel in the front (and not projected way forward like in tuktuks/autorickshaws) means the center of gravity is uncomfortably near the single front wheel. When braking and especially when braking to do a turn the center of gravity can act outside the triangle formed by the wheels and the car will flip. In the Aptera the same thing happens instead when accelerating, so perhaps you need to avoid accelerating suddenly when coming out of a sharp corner.

Lol! I literally just said this to my wife and son, then saw your comment. I'm a Volt owner. If Aptera had more solidified plans for the Canadian market, I would be placing an order. Unfortunately I think it's still at least 3 years out for us.
This is what I've been waiting for. Such a thoughtful engineering philosophy behind the fabrication of this vehicle. It's like all of his life experience and passion was poured into this company and it happens to be good for the environment. bravo

I'm a reservation holder and investor in Aptera and this video has shown me more about the car than all the other videos that I've sought out. Thank you. Edit: It was pointed out that this comment makes it sound like this video was the most information shown so far. What I should have said is that the video shows more footage of their initial prototype than I've seen before. Big difference.
This car can only be used in warm climate, I wouldn't invest in it personally. The arctic areas have no sun for the majority of the day during winter and the heating alone will exceed the charging capacity.
I want one! How about an inexpensive lightweight, well designed teardrop trailer with bathroom/shower & with additional solar panels including transparent window solar panels - (they've had them in Japan since the 1980's), that hook up to the car's batteries, or just power the teardrop while disconnected. That would be the ultimate affordable solar motorcycle pairing! I've seen a lightweight teardrop trailer pulled by a regular bicycle or pedal assisted electric bike, and several small campers females pulled by themselves to position in the ideal camping spot. That could be a home/RV solution for many people. With pedal assist it would still move if the power got low before a destination is reached. If the price is low enough, a lot of people would buy one, perhaps storage plus inhabited parking for owned vehicles also with rentals available would be very popular in cities that lack adequate parking for owned vehicles. How great that could be! Then, probably at least 25% of the population would HAVE to own one!
@@dingdong2103 The video fails to say that this is still a plug in EV. The solar only adds 40 miles of range per sunny day. I think Aptera is doing a good thing by adding solar but they really should be careful in not overhyping expectations of that feature. The car must be plugged in for full range.
@@dingdong2103 Over 90% of humans live below the Arctic Circle. But yes. If you live in Alaska, you're probably going to need fossil fuels and/or wood/biomass fuels. I'll be slow to go full-on electric, myself. I think it's like investing: Diversify. I think it's like life: Moderation. Most of us drive less than 40 miles per day. Most days, I drive 0 miles. When I was young and fit, I rode a bicycle everywhere, but I also always had a motor vehicle to give me more reach, as needed, and to handle big loads. I've always owned compact pickup trucks, except for a couple years in grad school, when I had an F-150 and a '74 SuperBeetle. I don't see this electric vehicle getting CLOSE to most of the back-country spots I know. I'm older, now, so I don't get as far from the truck, but my entire adult life, I've had a pickup truck that I could throw a month's grub, camping gear, and a surprising number of tools and even spare parts. Kind of a city on wheels. This video is critical of the efficiency of internal combustion, but the amount of power delivered by those pistons through that drive train to 2 or 4 wheels, is WAY more. They're super-light, but I don't think they're even considering the good half ton of gear, plus the teardrop another commenter mentions in this same thread.
I’ve been watching the development of this car over the last 6 months or so, but this is the most info of any of the videos I’ve viewed. I’m eager to see the car finally on the market.
700W of solar cells will not power the car if you use it every day. I my experience if they say 300w sol palel it performs closer to 70-80% of promised, and that is is direct suligth. But for the sake of the argument let's say they reach 700W of charging. And to be generous it charges for 12 hours a day. It will be 8,4kw/h if there is no loss. If the car is teally efficient and use 50% of the energy of a Tesla model 3 it uses 80w/km, an that translates to the car beein able to drive 100km/day. I have now give the car so many free passes in the calculation that in reality it probably is half or less. Is the car in constant optimal charging conditions? NO of course not. Will you always just ust 80w/km, no not at all. What about when it rains, it would charge a fraction. In reality, get rid of the solar panels, place them on your house an charge from your housr

Thank goodness for people like this. Our world needs more and more people working towards efficiency. I live in Minot, ND and am wondering if a vehicle like this could work well here, given our long and cold winters.
I'm in Nebraska, so we fair a bit better with sunlight, but... the Midwest is the Midwest and I'm wondering if this thing will even get enough solar charge in the winter to drive across town and back every day (about 8 miles a day total), let alone taking it on roadtrips anytime between Thanksgiving and Easter. Welp, I'm hopeful enough that I just preordered one. 😛 Also those super low front wheel pants are a bit concerning. Guess I'll be prepared to replace those every once in awhile... such low clearance, and also so likely to scrape curbs when trying park on a street (with the wheelbase being pretty wide, I'd feel pressure to park as close to the curb as possible, often rubbing the tire into the curb in a normal car). Yep, I'm going into this with eyes open, but the dream of solar powered transportation is so tantalizingly close, I can't help but want to support these guys.
@@loltime8346 The car? It starts at 25,900 but offers many options and upgrades (longer range batteries for example) so you could go well over 50k. The options I selected came up to 36,100.
I remember the original Aptera....before it was brought back from the dead. It was somewhat compelling back then. But the pure electric, solar, and other refinements of the latest effort feels like it was ahead of it's time and just needed technologies to improve and advance. Now it is something I'd like to own.
This is one of the better videos where Chris Anthony does a very good job in explaining many of the features and benefits of this vehicle versus what every other auto company has attempted by never completed. Marketing on this channel is a good example of how Aptera employees think out of the box.

It is a bit less impressive when you realize that F150 side view mirrors are large flat plates that stick out pretty far from the vehicle, and couldn't be made much less aerodynamically tuned without activly trying.
There are so many elements to this that are just pure problem solving thinking where efficiency and weight are at the forefront. All manufacturers are going to have to really start adopting this kind of thinking going forward. Wish them all success. And great video!

Ive been watching videos about aptera since like 2009, and its 1 of the companies that I wish the most success to, even more than tesla, I love their design and hope 1 day I can own 1 of those space ships
I've been following Aptera's story from the beginning (when it was still an ICE vehicle) and what they were doing then was exciting. What they are doing now is beyond that; it's truly groundbreaking.
I literally shouted "woah" when I saw the thumbnail. Wasn't expecting you to cover this! I love this company so that's exciting. I'd love to have this car or the 4 seater version of it in the near future.
@@guitarplayed1 If you look closely at the video there was a dude laying down in the back in several of the clips. Maybe not quite legal, but I did the same, plus my passenger's lap, when I wanted to transport 2 or 3 friends in my old 2001 Honda Insight ;->.
Nice now that's pure engineering....sweet love the purity of the goal at a real workable level. The drive in the hub with real world solar collection makes me smile.
I have a 250 Honda motor scooter that I am thinking about replacing. 70 miles per gallon. My wife only occasionally likes to write on it with me, either too cold or too hot or rain! As a motorcycle replacement, being protected from the weather with an electric motor makes so much sense! I just hope they can ramp up production so we don't have to wait forever!
Hotels offering charging is getting more and more common all the time. And a lot of them are installing solar the cover the costs of offering it as a free service.

@@michaelbrownlee9497 This idea that money is necessary for motivation? Is not valid in science. The true motivations are autonomy, mastery of skills, and a greater purpose to our actions. Science is not driven by money. And innovation is a result of scientific advancement. Everything owes its existence to already known science and technologies.

The key differentiator Aptera is that is starts with efficiency and then took on to solar. Two things, first just think what this translates to as the PV efficiency goes up. Other bit, if Aptera, and similar cars, provide option to direclty plug in a solar panel or a turbine, the car is the generator, what sort of adoption we are looking at. Just throw few solar modules on the lawn and free ride for ever, and less grass to mow!

This was super exciting! I have been looking forward to car alternatives for quite a while. Today, 99% of my travels is 25- up to 40km. And honestly, a bike or e-bike does the job great during the warmer months of the year here in the south of Sweden. What makes it hard is the winter. Rain, strong winds etc. Something like a light weight 2-seat car that runs on rural roads at a maximum of 80km/h would fit almost every need I have of a car. Yet there's nothing in-between e-bikes, motorcycles and cars... and cars is the only vehicle that allow comfort during bad weather conditions. I wish we had more vehicle classes.
Have you looked at electric assist velomobiles? Kinda seems to me like the Aptera is getting to that same idea, but they start with a car. Velomobiles start with a bicycle. The ened result is something very aerodynamic and lightweight, which means very energy efficient.
lot's of chinese electric enclosed mini cars are on the market , they get about 100 miles per charge and would get to speeds of about 25 MPH on a flat surface (tough for them to climb big hills). I'm guessing you'd be under $12K USD in Sweden for some of them.
@@adamt195 you and I agree, but he is wanting highway speeds as well. I'm sure you would agree that while quite doable, consisteny driving 50-75mph in a velomobile is not safe.

Sono Sion is also a solar powered electric car. While it does not get the range this one does, it as least makes it practical to drive around a small city. I love watching the technology meet our dreams. Thanks for sharing.
I've been quite interested in Apteras since seeing them on TV around 2007. I'm glad the company reformed and with Tesla's popularity, the idea of EVs has much broader acceptance than 1.5 decades ago.
This thing is BOMB. To me it looks like a futuristic luxury car you'd drive to the gala, but in a humble yet extremely sharp and cool way! "So you also have a camper van - yeap" EPIC. And they think everything through using the latest technology. You can tell these people love their job. It's a true masterpiece!
This will be the ideal vehicle for my off grid lifestyle. I just hope I live long enough to see them for sale. Curious just how off-road it can be. The road to my wilderness home can become more trail than road some years depending on monsoon rains.
It seems to me that it should have a huge off grid appeal, Get to your cabin with little charge on your 40 kw battery, stay for 10 days and hopefully fully charged for a trip home.
Been in an Aptera when visiting before they moved into the big place in Carlsbad. Was surprised at the amount of room in Aptera's cabin! Met Chris in person as well. Chris is a BIG dude, so if he fits...
For the regulators, it's a motorcycle, but for the investors and enthusiasts, it's a car. The stats are impressive, and for a fun outing it's fantastic. 🌞⚡

This was actually much more informative than their company videos have been. I'd love to see a demo of how what auxiliary controls can be operated with the thumb wheels and what the interior looks like in the dark.

FWIW, Toyota does sell a much smaller solar option than what Chris Anthony mentioned, that actually does charge the PHEV system on the Prius Prime (PHV) in Japan and Europe. ...it's a 180 watt panel. So in optimal conditions, you're charging at 0.72 miles per hour (using EPA efficiency data), and almost certainly less than that in the real world (because EPA efficiency data is based on charging at full speed, not a greatly reduced speed, and that 180 watts is assuming optimal insolation). Aptera's efficiency and larger panel (especially with the full solar option) will certainly make it *much* more useful. There are also other companies working on serious attempts at solar cars - Lightyear and Sion come to mind. (And, Lightyear is also focusing on optimizing efficiency, although with a luxury sedan form factor, so not quite this extreme.)

It is affordable, with prices starting at $25K and topping-out at just over $40K (the average new car price in the US is $40K) - or did you mean "available"? It should be available within the next two years.
Amazing to see that this company has survived. I remember a number of years ago when these were just a concept car. Hope they keep getting made and start getting sold more frequently.
EV's have be criticized for being "too quiet" vis a vis a safety issue for pedestrians. So I've always hoped, especially on cool looking rides like this, that they have a sound generator to alert their coming down the road... The perfect sound effect IMHO would be from the Jetson's flying car!
@@whotoinfinity I read that the production version will have outside speakers to do just that. Lots of ideas in the Aptera forum around what that sound should be. I like your idea. 👍
@@whotoinfinity There's a federal requirement for all-electric vehicles to have a system that emits sounds when traveling at 30 MPH or less. Further, those sounds must meet specified requirements for tones and loudness.
@@whotoinfinity Unfortunately, no. It took me awhile to find the regulations. It was a tough slog to get through some really arcane legalese. If I had a PHD in acustica it might have helped. The sounds were described as a frequency range subdivided into discrete, individual bands in which 2 non-adjacent bands must be generated simultaneously. In addition, the system could not exceed specific maximum/minimum sound pressures (loudness) as measured from specific distances in front of the car! To top it off, two sets of specifications we're designated for two speed ranges: 30 mph to above 20 mph, and 20 mph to 1 mph. At least I think that's what I read but I could be wrong!!!
It's also 3-wheeled because it is then classified as a motorcycle and not a car, therefore not having to meet the same safety standards of say....a Prius or a Tesla
They are designing it to meet all car safety standards though and are planning to do crash testing to prove performance. It does help them to bring the vehicle to market more quickly and at a lower cost though. There's less bureaucracy with a 3-wheeler.
In an accident, it looks like it would fare better than a motorcycle, probably not as well as an SUV, but being light, fast, and agile, you might be able to avoid an accident better than with a Prius or Tesla.
@@nhinja "Accident avoidance" is the right way to think. The shell is much stronger than a welded steel vehicle and the shape will tend to allow the Aptera to rise above or below another auto in a collision.
Love the car (investor and reservation holder) but that tent really makes me laugh. No way it can hold up to decent rain and snow would be comical; clearly California designed. A tarp over the back of the car from trees would do far more and for $600 just buy a tent (or 5) that could be used near the car or not.
@@lyokofans Of course not, no one is claiming that you can. Aptera’s batteries are sized from 25kw to 100kw, you charge them first. So with that efficiency, it gives a range of 250 to 1000 miles. Plus get up to 40+ miles of additional range from the sun.
@@lyokofans the solar "never charge" is definitely best case but still crazy efficient ev that can charge on house current and perform like a sports car. Kinda missed marketing angle.
No gas required. Rarely need to use a charger port. Turns into a place to live and don't forget the it's safe against hail. Next year you'll discover it's also a home gym. This is so awesome it makes me cry.
11 months after this video was published Aptera announced they have 22,000 pre-orders, double what they had at filming (11,000). I’m hoping it was this video that sold 11,000 vehicles (~$330m in potential revenue).
This is the most amazing vehicle I think I've ever seen. I love trikes anyway, single rear trikes that is,the other way round is lethal. They handle at least as well as a car. Those solar panels are just incredible. But most surprising of all is the performance . Especially the mileage and acceleration ,plus it is utterly beautiful. A Morgan for the 21rst century!
I had a ride in the Luna prototype just before Thanksgiving. The acceleration even with the 2 motor version was exhilarating and the cornering in the twisties was much more sports car than economy car-like. I say this as a long time motorcycle rider.
Probably the most impressive video I've seen this year. I've always wanted to see a logan's run solar powered car.... I think another decade and you'll reduce battery weight by 90% and increase solar efficiency by 300%. That'll get you closer to unlimited range that it really needs to be.
the wheel pants are attached to the wheels - with about 5" of clearance - so the entire sidewall is showing. In order for the wheel pant to hit the ground you'd first need to compress the entire thickness of the tire and hit the rim.

@@nononsenseBennett Both my wife and I rode in an alpha prototype in November. Both the handling and the acceleration were breath-taking and incredibly fun. In my work I used to see many prototype vehicles at the Ford and GM proving grounds and from other small manufacturers. The promise of this vehicle is immense, and i hope they get there.
I'd totally get this for my next car. But I need to get my current car paid and settle my financial situation so I can save for it. I don't want to have to get a loan like usual.

This car can only be used in warm climate, I wouldn't invest in it personally. The arctic areas have no sun for the majority of the day during winter and the heating alone will exceed the charging capacity.
I want one! How about an inexpensive lightweight, well designed teardrop trailer with bathroom/shower & with additional solar panels including transparent window solar panels - (they've had them in Japan since the 1980's), that hook up to the car's batteries, or just power the teardrop while disconnected. That would be the ultimate affordable solar motorcycle pairing! I've seen a lightweight teardrop trailer pulled by a regular bicycle or pedal assisted electric bike, and several small campers females pulled by themselves to position in the ideal camping spot. That could be a home/RV solution for many people. With pedal assist it would still move if the power got low before a destination is reached. If the price is low enough, a lot of people would buy one, perhaps storage plus inhabited parking for owned vehicles also with rentals available would be very popular in cities that lack adequate parking for owned vehicles. How great that could be! Then, probably at least 25% of the population would HAVE to own one!
@@dingdong2103 The video fails to say that this is still a plug in EV. The solar only adds 40 miles of range per sunny day. I think Aptera is doing a good thing by adding solar but they really should be careful in not overhyping expectations of that feature. The car must be plugged in for full range.

Most of us drive less than 40 miles per day. Most days, I drive 0 miles. When I was young and fit, I rode a bicycle everywhere, but I also always had a motor vehicle to give me more reach, as needed, and to handle big loads. I've always owned compact pickup trucks, except for a couple years in grad school, when I had an F-150 and a '74 SuperBeetle.
I don't see this electric vehicle getting CLOSE to most of the back-country spots I know. I'm older, now, so I don't get as far from the truck, but my entire adult life, I've had a pickup truck that I could throw a month's grub, camping gear, and a surprising number of tools and even spare parts. Kind of a city on wheels. This video is critical of the efficiency of internal combustion, but the amount of power delivered by those pistons through that drive train to 2 or 4 wheels, is WAY more. They're super-light, but I don't think they're even considering the good half ton of gear, plus the teardrop another commenter mentions in this same thread.

700W of solar cells will not power the car if you use it every day. I my experience if they say 300w sol palel it performs closer to 70-80% of promised, and that is is direct suligth. But for the sake of the argument let's say they reach 700W of charging. And to be generous it charges for 12 hours a day. It will be 8,4kw/h if there is no loss. If the car is teally efficient and use 50% of the energy of a Tesla model 3 it uses 80w/km, an that translates to the car beein able to drive 100km/day. I have now give the car so many free passes in the calculation that in reality it probably is half or less. Is the car in constant optimal charging conditions? NO of course not. Will you always just ust 80w/km, no not at all. What about when it rains, it would charge a fraction. In reality, get rid of the solar panels, place them on your house an charge from your housr

In a large part of the USA SW sun is the rule, rare overcast, years on end of drought followed by more drought. This tech is helpful, easy on the environment, able to do many tasks & journey. Thank goodness for people like this. Our world needs more and more people working towards efficiency. I live in Minot, ND and am wondering if a vehicle like this could work well here, given our long and cold winters.
I'm in Nebraska, so we fair a bit better with sunlight, but... the Midwest is the Midwest and I'm wondering if this thing will even get enough solar charge in the winter to drive across town and back every day (about 8 miles a day total), let alone taking it on roadtrips anytime between Thanksgiving and Easter. Welp, I'm hopeful enough that I just preordered one. 😛
Also those super low front wheel pants are a bit concerning. Guess I'll be prepared to replace those every once in awhile... such low clearance, and also so likely to scrape curbs when trying park on a street (with the wheelbase being pretty wide, I'd feel pressure to park as close to the curb as possible, often rubbing the tire into the curb in a normal car).
Yep, I'm going into this with eyes open, but the dream of solar powered transportation is so tantalizingly close, I can't help but want to support these guys.

I remember the original Aptera....before it was brought back from the dead. It was somewhat compelling back then. But the pure electric, solar, and other refinements of the latest effort feels like it was ahead of it's time and just needed technologies to improve and advance. Now it is something I'd like to own.

This is one of the better videos where Chris Anthony does a very good job in explaining many of the features and benefits of this vehicle versus what every other auto company has attempted by never completed. Marketing on this channel is a good example of how Aptera employees think out of the box.

It is a bit less impressive when you realize that F150 side view mirrors are large flat plates that stick out pretty far from the vehicle, and couldn't be made much less aerodynamically tuned without activly trying.

There are so many elements to this that are just pure problem solving thinking where efficiency and weight are at the forefront. All manufacturers are going to have to really start adopting this kind of thinking going forward. Wish them all success. And great video!

Ive been watching videos about aptera since like 2009, and its 1 of the companies that I wish the most success to, even more than tesla, I love their design and hope 1 day I can own 1 of those space ships
I've been following Aptera's story from the beginning (when it was still an ICE vehicle) and what they were doing then was exciting. What they are doing now is beyond that; it's truly groundbreaking.

Nice now that's pure engineering....sweet love the purity of the goal at a real workable level. The drive in the hub with real world solar collection makes me smile.
I have a 250 Honda motor scooter that I am thinking about replacing. 70 miles per gallon. My wife only occasionally likes to write on it with me, either too cold or too hot or rain! As a motorcycle replacement, being protected from the weather with an electric motor makes so much sense! I just hope they can ramp up production so we don't have to wait forever!

Love this car. Just the fact that you can charge it effectively off a normal 120v outlet makes this a cross-country option, especially at hotels.
Hotels offering charging is getting more and more common all the time. And a lot of them are installing solar the cover the costs of offering it as a free service.

The key differentiator Aptera is that is starts with efficiency and then took on to solar. Two things, first just think what this translates to as the PV efficiency goes up. Other bit, if Aptera, and similar cars, provide option to direclty plug in a solar panel or a turbine, the car is the generator, what sort of adoption we are looking at. Just throw few solar modules on the lawn and free ride for ever, and less grass to mow!
I just love the aesthetics of chasing efficiency, looks awesome.

This was super exciting! I have been looking forward to car alternatives for quite a while. Today, 99% of my travels is 25- up to 40km. And honestly, a bike or e-bike does the job great during the warmer months of the year here in the south of Sweden. What makes it hard is the winter. Rain, strong winds etc. Something like a light weight 2-seat car that runs on rural roads at a maximum of 80km/h would fit almost every need I have of a car. Yet there's nothing in-between e-bikes, motorcycles and cars... and cars is the only vehicle that allow comfort during bad weather conditions. I wish we had more vehicle classes.
Have you looked at electric assist velomobiles?
Kinda seems to me like the Aptera is getting to that same idea, but they start with a car. Velomobiles start with a bicycle. The ened result is something very aerodynamic and lightweight, which means very energy efficient.
lot's of chinese electric enclosed mini cars are on the market , they get about 100 miles per charge and would get to speeds of about 25 MPH on a flat surface (tough for them to climb big hills). I'm guessing you'd be under $12K USD in Sweden for some of them.
@@adamt195 you and I agree, but he is wanting highway speeds as well. I'm sure you would agree that while quite doable, consisteny driving 50-75mph in a velomobile is not safe.

Sono Sion is also a solar powered electric car. While it does not get the range this one does, it as least makes it practical to drive around a small city. I love watching the technology meet our dreams. Thanks for sharing.

I've been quite interested in Apteras since seeing them on TV around 2007. I'm glad the company reformed and with Tesla's popularity, the idea of EVs has much broader acceptance than 1.5 decades ago.
When he pulled the tent out this car went from a want to a need. Ingenious engineering in all aspects.
This thing is BOMB. To me it looks like a futuristic luxury car you'd drive to the gala, but in a humble yet extremely sharp and cool way! "So you also have a camper van - yeap" EPIC. And they think everything through using the latest technology. You can tell these people love their job. It's a true masterpiece!

This will be the ideal vehicle for my off grid lifestyle. I just hope I live long enough to see them for sale. Curious just how off-road it can be. The road to my wilderness home can become more trail than road some years depending on monsoon rains.
Aptera will produce an off road option with more ground clearance. Keep an eye on it. Information is on the Aptera website and forum.
It seems to me that it should have a huge off grid appeal, Get to your cabin with little charge on your 40 kw battery, stay for 10 days and hopefully fully charged for a trip home.

This was actually much more informative than their company videos have been. I'd love to see a demo of how what auxiliary controls can be operated with the thumb wheels and what the interior looks like in the dark.
In next 2-3 years I will be buying my next car and if this car is available in Asian markets then for sure this will be my choice of vehicle.

FWIW, Toyota does sell a much smaller solar option than what Chris Anthony mentioned, that actually does charge the PHEV system on the Prius Prime (PHV) in Japan and Europe. ...it's a 180 watt panel. So in optimal conditions, you're charging at 0.72 miles per hour (using EPA efficiency data), and almost certainly less than that in the real world (because EPA efficiency data is based on charging at full speed, not a greatly reduced speed, and that 180 watts is assuming optimal insolation).
Aptera's efficiency and larger panel (especially with the full solar option) will certainly make it *much* more useful.
There are also other companies working on serious attempts at solar cars - Lightyear and Sion come to mind. (And, Lightyear is also focusing on optimizing efficiency, although with a luxury sedan form factor, so not quite this extreme.)
Can´t wait till it´s affordable. I live in FL. Just makes sense.

It is affordable, with prices starting at $25K and topping-out at just over $40K (the average new car price in the US is $40K) - or did you mean "available"? It should be available within the next two years.

Amazing to see that this company has survived. I remember a number of years ago when these were just a concept car. Hope they keep getting made and start getting sold more frequently.
To be fair, this company was formed in 2019, to fulfil the vision of the original.
Sadly, they didn't survive. They died and were miraculously resurrected several years later.

EV's have be criticized for being "too quiet" vis a vis a safety issue for pedestrians. So I've always hoped, especially on cool looking rides like this, that they have a sound generator to alert their coming down the road... The perfect sound effect IMHO would be from the Jetson's flying car!

@@whotoinfinity There's a federal requirement for all-electric vehicles to have a system that emits sounds when traveling at 30 MPH or less. Further, those sounds must meet specified requirements for tones and loudness.

@@whotoinfinity Unfortunately, no. It took me awhile to find the regulations. It was a tough slog to get through some really arcane legalese. If I had a PHD in acustica it might have helped. The sounds were described as a frequency range subdivided into discrete, individual bands in which 2 non-adjacent bands must be generated simultaneously. In addition, the system could not exceed specific maximum/minimum sound pressures (loudness) as measured from specific distances in front of the car! To top it off, two sets of specifications we're designated for two speed ranges: 30 mph to above 20 mph, and 20 mph to 1 mph. At least I think that's what I read but I could be wrong!!!
It's also 3-wheeled because it is then classified as a motorcycle and not a car, therefore not having to meet the same safety standards of say....a Prius or a Tesla
They are designing it to meet all car safety standards though and are planning to do crash testing to prove performance.
It does help them to bring the vehicle to market more quickly and at a lower cost though. There's less bureaucracy with a 3-wheeler.
In many places (states, provinces and countries) an enclosed 3-wheeled vehicle is classified as an "autocycle".
In an accident, it looks like it would fare better than a motorcycle, probably not as well as an SUV, but being light, fast, and agile, you might be able to avoid an accident better than with a Prius or Tesla.
@@nhinja "Accident avoidance" is the right way to think. The shell is much stronger than a welded steel vehicle and the shape will tend to allow the Aptera to rise above or below another auto in a collision.

Love the car (investor and reservation holder) but that tent really makes me laugh. No way it can hold up to decent rain and snow would be comical; clearly California designed. A tarp over the back of the car from trees would do far more and for $600 just buy a tent (or 5) that could be used near the car or not.
The solar panels will do less for you in cloudy climes, but the amazing efficiency, 10 miles per KWH, will be an advantage everywhere.
The problem is based on the numbers given the panels charge it at 7MPH. You won't get very far on panels alone.
@@lyokofans Of course not, no one is claiming that you can. Aptera’s batteries are sized from 25kw to 100kw, you charge them first. So with that efficiency, it gives a range of 250 to 1000 miles. Plus get up to 40+ miles of additional range from the sun.
@@lyokofans the solar "never charge" is definitely best case but still crazy efficient ev that can charge on house current and perform like a sports car. Kinda missed marketing angle.
No gas required. Rarely need to use a charger port. Turns into a place to live and don't forget the it's safe against hail.

11 months after this video was published Aptera announced they have 22,000 pre-orders, double what they had at filming (11,000).
I’m hoping it was this video that sold 11,000 vehicles (~$330m in potential revenue).
Now in June the number is over 25,000. Orders are coming in fast!
This is the most amazing vehicle I think I've ever seen. I love trikes anyway, single rear trikes that is,the other way round is lethal. They handle at least as well as a car. Those solar panels are just incredible. But most surprising of all is the performance . Especially the mileage and acceleration ,plus it is utterly beautiful.

I had a ride in the Luna prototype just before Thanksgiving. The acceleration even with the 2 motor version was exhilarating and the cornering in the twisties was much more sports car than economy car-like. I say this as a long time motorcycle rider.
Probably the most impressive video I've seen this year. I've always wanted to see a logan's run solar powered car.... I think another decade and you'll reduce battery weight by 90% and increase solar efficiency by 300%. That'll get you closer to unlimited range that it really needs to be.

The ground clearance for these wheel skirts is crap. Wouldn't survive a year on the SF Bay Area roads.
the wheel pants are attached to the wheels - with about 5" of clearance - so the entire sidewall is showing. In order for the wheel pant to hit the ground you'd first need to compress the entire thickness of the tire and hit the rim.

I haven't been so excited about a vehicle since getting my first motorcycle! This could be HUGE!
I have over 400,000 miles on motorcycles, and even the 2WD version beats most of them in acceleration.

@@nononsenseBennett Both my wife and I rode in an alpha prototype in November. Both the handling and the acceleration were breath-taking and incredibly fun. In my work I used to see many prototype vehicles at the Ford and GM proving grounds and from other small manufacturers.
The promise of this vehicle is immense, and i hope they get there.
