It is sad that some media outlets will take and twist or select only certain portions of something to create a false narrative. This is where I would have been less open about media drives at this point. When they had the obvious test mule, sure, share it. Now that they are coming down the final stretch, the vehicle looks complete, so when things go wrong, it is easier for the jerks of the world to try and spin a negative image of the product. Since Aptera is very dependent on investors, I get them wanting to have a more open process with the hopes of bringing in more backers, not to mention keep current ones feeling like things are good. As a minor investor in Acrimoto, I am not feeling so hot about how they have handled things.
I hope by summer of next year, deliveries really do happen. I think Aptera has pushed things back to the point where pushing back more would become a very large negative. I get the whole do not rush because they want to do it right, but production hell must be faced and the journey through that phase needs to happen. There is such thing as too much time in planning and design. There will always be new tech just around the corner to make a vehicle better and if you wait for every bit of tech that will make things better before going into production, you will never be in production.
I am looking forward to seeing Aptera vehicles out in the wild. We need more companies doing something very different. For the public to see these tear drop shaped three wheel vehicles in their communities will hopefully help open their minds to new designs. If their 1000 miles of range is nailed and proven by owners and various members of the media, it will hopefully inspire more iCE buyers to go EV.

    • @kevtheobald

Sadly, they had Munro give them feedback and in the end, they went another direction. The reason given at the time is Munro was giving advice for about 50,000 units a year production and they did not want to invest into the tooling for that at that time. As an investor, not inspiring to hear.
I did not know about this until after they broke their production mold and went through leadership changes. It will be interesting to see if they can regain their footing. They are not done yet, but they feel like they are struggling to go beyond a tiny niche company.
I still have their stock, not sure why, other than it has dropped so much, selling it means little at this point.
I never thought they would be a big player, but I thought the hobby and local delivery space could be an area they could do very well in. @@Rich1Rodriguez

One thing I wish they would have kept from the original Aptera is the side door handles. They ones from the original looked pretty damn aerodynamic, and I understand that they are likely (slightly) less aerodynamic than having none whatsoever, but the idea that you can only open the door through some kind of electronic relay just seems like a major point of failure for a pretty critical function.

Not so much "perfection" as the best possible within reason. Changing to CPC makes a vehicle which should be tight, and very safe, that delayed everything, but with over44,000 reservations on the books, they could not make enough of the old honeycomb composite that they originally were going to use. This upgrade makes a great deal of sense and makes the assemble process back in Carlsbad much smoother and sensible. The design work in how the assemble of the vehicle with just 13 stations, and only 6 minutes per station, means a new Aptera can be built in an hour and 18 minutes. Sandy Monro has done better with Aptera listening, better than Acrimoto, making production hell much less likely.

I live in Belgium and I pre-ordered in 2020. Unfortunately my car broke down and it wasn't worth the while to repair it, so now I'm without car, using public transport, bike and a carsharing system. It's doable, but I hope to get my Aptera in the new year, a bit more than 3 years after the pre-order... that would be great! Or at least let me know when I can expect something to happen in Europe on the Aptera front. I'm quite confident, but impatient.

We gotta get Aptera to add V2G. I've got powerwalls, solar, the export agreements...and a Leaf with 76-mile range. I refuse to get a new vehicle until it's solar powered and can feed back all the excess generation to the grid (self driving can be licensed from Tesla, which at this point I'm expecting from Aptera).
We only drive a couple thousand miles a year, and our net energy the last few has been only 5,000kWh. Taking the 600kWh we charge our Leaf a year, off the net, then adding a thousand or two from the car's solar would be a game changer.

Lightweight is good, but composites are an environmental disaster. In most places they are simply landfilled because they are too hard and expensive to recycle. Metals are the best materials to use if you want recyclability, composites are the worst.

I want my Aptera, we put in 2 reservations about 2 years back. The problem I see is what will the price be, I can get Tesla 3 or Y for approx 35-44K starting Jan 2024. If the aptera is above that it’s stupid to get one. They may be to late to the market. Sure a few zealots will get one no matter the price but the market for a 3 wheel car is very limited.

  • @xungnham1388

This is playing out like Elio motors or...the first go around of Aptera. There's a market for people who just want a cheap, highly efficient, 2-seater. Prioritize features; if something is causing delays, strip it from the design. If you can get to market faster without the solar panels, then do it. They've already lost branding due to their first bankruptcy; this is probably their last chance.

Right now there is a slowing in demand for Legacy Auto makers EV's. Long term they had to switch to NACS but then they announce they will not have NACS socket vehicles in the market until 2025 so consumers rather than buying a soon obsolete CCS socket vehicle are waiting for the NACS versions. So short term it is hurting the Legacy Makers like ford and GM. But this delay can also be a big bonus to Aptera if production starts in 2024 as the only non-Tesla in production with a NACS Socket!!

The money spinner is the media output which brings in the investors, thats why they spend so much time on media, they will try go to stock market to continue the funding, if they hang in there long enough they might make a few, but the chance of any long term widespread useage is almost zero. Seems they are going to ride this cash cow as long as they can.

I really don't understand the enthusiasm for Aptera. Tricycle cars have been tried a number of times and either the companies that produce them either go out of business, just keep it as a quirky model in their 4 wheeled line up, or drop it and concentrate on their proven two wheel models. An electric biplane is probably not a good idea either. The fact that the goal of production is always a bit in the future makes one think of nuclear fusion or finding the cure for cancer.
