Yo dude your video totally saved our betta! We set up a hospital tank just like you said and warmed her water just a little using a heat pad and a meat thermometer to monitor the temperature. We put some plants with big leaves in so she could chill and relax too as she was really struggling with her buoyancy. Today she took some huge poops and is back to her old self! We were so worried and panicked a bit but watching your video over and over really helped us figure out what to do. We were told that she'd be fine at room temp but I think when her water was changed it was too cold and triggered the constipation but I'm not sure. We are also going to give her a more varied diet and I just bought a small adjustable heater. Thanks for putting out such an awesomely informative video for all of us noobie fish owners.

I also want to mention that swim bladder can also develop from too low or high of a ph. One particular water change, I made the ph over 7.5 and my betta was really struggling to swim down and stay upright. Once a brought down the ph again, he was swimming normally. So PSA to any betta keepers, if it’s not constipation or disease, it might just be bad water parameters so try that before administering treatment!

Yeahhh I definitely overfed my betta, I'm going to fast him for 3 days. Also, I dont have a filter for the hospital tank, it's a small tank. I just do a 100% water change everyday?
My Crowntail betta seems to have a swim bladder disease as he can't swim down from the surface of his tank, he just floats right back and I have tried many things to fix this including giving him a break from food for two days I believe it is something to do with the amount of food he's been eating.. at least he can still breath at the suface I will try the boiled pea thing again
One year later and your videos are still helping ppl out thank you bro very informative. I’m putting my Betta on a diet until Friday hopefully his belly gets smaller
So I have a dumbo that has a buoyancy problem. Like, he's stuck bobbing at the top of the tank and he can't swim down. He's still active and very eager to eat, but he just... can't swim down. What can I do to fix this?
Same here. In fact, my fish has been floating at the top of the tank on his side for over 2 weeks now. He can eat but can barely swim. I have done the epson salt bath, and tried one medication, and now am going to start with another. I have no idea how to help him.
I skip a day without feeding my community tank with a Plakat Betta. I don’t think fish in the wild catch food every day. They nibble on algae sources in between. So once a week they do not get fed. They are all fine. It’s a good habit to get into.
I finally found a video on youtube that explains this disease better. My husband and i are dealing with this issue right now. My betta has been with us for a year. We went on an out of town trip for 2 days and when we got back he was propping himself up by the filter and when we tried to wake him up by playing with the water a bit, he swam really fast then floated sideways. We panic thinking he is dying. It has been 6 days and he is still alive. We did the aquatic salt and pea method. But nothing has worked yet. But we don't want to give up. I want to look for an ig or tiktok acct to message you. Maybe you can give us advice. Thank you!
@@buhuilianai my betta unfortunately passed away a month ago. It was fin rot. We tried putting antibiotics in his water and this extended his life but his fin rot was really severe. So he eventually died.
I so appreciate this video! It had all the information I needed, and thank you for throughly explaining every point, it has helped me so much! I'm guilty of somewhat blindy buying a Glo Betta female and the PetSmart workers didn't know anything at all. When I took her home I vowed to give her the best life I could, so I did tons of research, took back some of the dangerous tank decor I stupidly bought, got her some real food instead of the "Glo Beta Flakes" and she's doing wonderful! She's so much happier and healthier ❤️
Sir my betta seems to get swim bladder disease very often and it also vanishes quickly So is it a issue?i recently started floating my pellets before feeding
Great video thanks for the info 👍 I made the mistake of using aquarium salt instead of Epson salt for my Cory cat that has some problems with its swim bladder.
Just bought a Dumbo Female Betta. Immediately after placing her in aquarium we noticed she had a hard time diving. She'd constantly float back to surface. She settled near the heater and just sat there, tired out. Came to RUclips to discover "Swim Bladder Disease". After almost an hour of researching this and convinced this is her problem, I went back to aquarium to remove her. Low and behold! She was swimming perfectly fine! Looked around tank and found a huge turd floating around. Since the tank was perfectly clean when I put her in, I'm going to assume she warmed up which help her drop her load. Monitored her for hours and can't tell she ever had those symptoms. Strange, but I'm glad she's fine now.
When I went to the pet store with my sister to get her a fish I saw a beautiful beta with a bloated bottom half. No popped out scales but it looks like he has a bubble inside of him. I decided to get him because I thought maybe I could save him and I might be his best chance. I’m not set up for a fish right now but I got everything and am setting him up a five gallon tank while I keep him in a hospital tank. I just took some of the water out to make it shallower and now I’m trying to decide what to do next. The hospital tank doesn’t have a filter in it but the water perimeters were good and I’ll keep changing the water and checking it every day. I’m hoping it’s something simple that caused it and that it’ll go away. Maybe the stress from the pet shop?
Hey So I've been using aquarium salt on my betta since 2/4. He has fin rot since 1/15. I do the separate container for 30 minutes. Yesterday, I went to Pet Smart for them to check the water quality. They told me to change 25% of the water because my alkalinity was low. I have a 5 gal tank. So I changed the water. I should've let the tank cycle for at least 30 mins before adding my betta. I usually put my fish in a bag & float him for 30 mins before adding him in the tank. Yesterday, I had to be somewhere in an hour. So I added my betta directly in the tank. He immediately went into Vertical Death Hang. I thought I killed him! The alkalinity was showing bright orange 8.4. I uses Tetra 5 in 1 Easy Strips. I bought Tetra Easy Balance & Tetra Correct ph. I used half of a tablet of Correct ph & 1 tsp of Easy balance. My betta is back to acting normal. He ate food last night. I woke up this morning & the water is all cloudy. 😢 What do I do now?
My betta had the distended belly. So we didn’t feed him for a few days and it looks normal now. However, his fins are really discolored, he’s weak and just laying in the bottom of the tank. I’m afraid to hit him with an antibiotic. I quarantined him and have the water real low. Trying to get the temp up into the high 70’s. There’s some brown around her gills I just noticed. Any advice?
Try Indian Almond leaves! Do some research on how it can help. It helps lower the ph and soften the water and improve the environment for your fish. Plus it’s close to how the natural habitat of bettas. I believe it can help aerate the water too if i am not mistaken. I also would amp up the temperature to 82F. Bettas preffer earmer temperatures but not too warm. So dont go beyond what i suggested. You can go to betta fish forums in the internet as well. Maybe you can get help from other betta enthusiasts ~
I've had a betta now for about 2 months and I did a lot of research before I got it so he is in a 10 gallon tank with hides and a heater. I do think he has swim bladder and I'm concerned it is due to either poor diet (he has never been able to eat the pellets, they are always too big for him, plus he's never interested in food that sinks like bloodworms, he's only ever been able to successfully eat betta flakes) or it could be the water quality. I do change the water but I live in an older house and using water test strips everything is within normal parameters except the GH levels, I'm not sure how to fix that issue since the only water access I have is tap water, I do let it sit for about 24-48 hours before I add it to his tank but the GH level is always incredibly high. Do you have any suggestions for foods he could eat besides the flakes and any way to lower the GH in the water? Thank you for all the information you provided!
Another point is age. My beta is almost 3 years at my home. He is blind at one eye. He turned from red to kind of brownish over time. and now has swimbladder problems that will not go away no matter what I tried.
My beta died recently. It was always at the top of the tank and not eating. It seem like it was weak and very thin. The water and temp was normal from the videos I watched. It was with other fish in the tank. It is hard to limit how much the fish would eat since it eats what is fed to the other fish. Should the beta be inter mingled with other fish or in it own tank?
I just purchased a betta from Petco with an obvious swim bladder problem. He's been floating on his side for almost a week. I did a 3 day fast, then on the 4th day fed him some pea and daphnia. He's still floating on his side. I haven't been noticing any real improvement...how long can it take for them to recover?
Totally late reply and hopefully your fish is much better now, but what I have known from giving my bettas an Epsom salt bath is it can take up to three days to 2 weeks to start seeing progress. It really depends and hopefully you will be able to tell that they are getting better!
Awesome, informative video! Currently trying to take care of my little betta who most definitely seems to have a case of SBD using your advice. I'll take a deeper look around myself, but do you (or anyone else) know of an alternative to maracyn in the UK? I can't seem to find it... 😢 Anyways, keep up the great content. Absolutely worth a subscribe!
I have getting some antibiotics, but it is going to arrive in quite a while. Do you have any other recommendations, meds or foods that can help with the bacterial infections? I heard that garlic is a great natural antibiotic, so I’m soaking my fishes pellets in garlic juice. Great vid with good detail!
Hi man i have questions my betta fish keep on sinking it get up to get air and sinking again is it the same problem please if you can answer my question and thanks
I’m at a loss with my betta. He has been very swollen for over a month but otherwise seems happy (making bubbles in his tank). I tried isolation and fasting and peas but he won’t eat them because they don’t float he he doesn’t look. Not sure what else to try.
Great video! I just received a betta with the same issues your betta had where it was sinking to the botton. Did it recover well? I currently set up a hospital tank and I'll be fasting it for 3 days then feed it a bit of peas. Also added some indian almond leaves and esha 2000 for treatment. Anything else you recommend i would do?
Lots of information about causes and cures, but little information about how you treated the fish that arrived with the problem. Did you just fast and pea the Betta or did you use any antibiotics or did it clear up on its own????
Short term shock is my case I use to have a super warm room that would always be around the same tempature but then I moved and he became really cold so we put him in our warmest place in the house and he got swim bladder disease I ordered a heater and a thermoniter (probably spelt that wrong) the heater should come soon now
I over fed my betta 🤦🏻♀️ I have a question I have them in a small but long plastic tote for my betta I have cat and dogs so I love the 5 gallon portrait tank because it isolates the cat hair and dog hair from the water and I sealed the lid of the tote hospital so they won’t bother the fish and no hair or dirt will get into the water. So my question is is it ok to keep the lid on the isolation tote. I will be fasting my beta for 3 days as well and I will do 100% water changes for the 3 days. I’m just worried that they won’t get the proper oxygen or would it be ok for the few days he’s in there?
Thank you so much bro I come to your videos and Reddit ! To help me .. I’m a new fish/beta owner and want the best for him . Is there anyway to contact you lol for more questions ?
My platy fish has possible SBD. When she stops trying to swim up she will sink. I did put her in a quarantaine tank with a low waterlevel. Do I need to fill the tank completely and add a small filter or do I need to do watertherapy? Switching waterlevels every 30 minutes 3 times a day?

Yeahhh I definitely overfed my betta, I'm going to fast him for 3 days. Also, I dont have a filter for the hospital tank, it's a small tank. I just do a 100% water change everyday?
Yes. Condition the water & do 100% water change daily & it will be fine
It actually helps to do smaller water changes more often. I've heard to never do full water changes because it can be really stressful on them.
My Crowntail betta seems to have a swim bladder disease as he can't swim down from the surface of his tank, he just floats right back
and I have tried many things to fix this
including giving him a break from food for two days
I believe it is something to do with the amount of food he's been eating.. at least he can still breath at the suface
I will try the boiled pea thing again
Thank you I am a novice with betta fish I really appreciate this video thank you
i like the way you presented your video. i can say that it was professionally done. keep it up!
i just subscribed! 😀
One year later and your videos are still helping ppl out thank you bro very informative. I’m putting my Betta on a diet until Friday hopefully his belly gets smaller
This is an absolutely amazing breakdown. Thank you. :)
Thank you for pointing out 100% Epsom salt. I have found every scented variety but not plain.
How did u do a 100% water change??? Won't tht stress out the betta??
So I have a dumbo that has a buoyancy problem. Like, he's stuck bobbing at the top of the tank and he can't swim down. He's still active and very eager to eat, but he just... can't swim down. What can I do to fix this?
Same here. In fact, my fish has been floating at the top of the tank on his side for over 2 weeks now. He can eat but can barely swim. I have done the epson salt bath, and tried one medication, and now am going to start with another. I have no idea how to help him.
@@janeswan2474 did u ever figure it out?
Thank you!
Hi Guia! I having same problem with my betta too. Have you betta get back to normal? Can you please share what have you done to ur betta?
@@buhuilianai my betta unfortunately passed away a month ago. It was fin rot. We tried putting antibiotics in his water and this extended his life but his fin rot was really severe. So he eventually died.
@@gigipanduhwhat antibiotics did you use? :(
@richardryanegonzalez it has been a long time but there is antibiotic drops for fish tanks at stores.
High quality video. Very good information
Mine has SBD rn, noticed tonight. Sinking like a rock. Hoping itll he fine, getting ready to treat him tmr.
Very Informative Keep going buddy and Thanks 🥰
Thanx .There's also needle aspiration of bladder. Requires anaesthetic.
There's videos on yt.
Thanks for the tips. I've watched like 4 videos on this so far. Just got home from work and saw that one of my goldfish had sbd.
Yes got value , thanks. Now I have to get busy and fix my Betta. TY
Sir my betta seems to get swim bladder disease very often and it also vanishes quickly
So is it a issue?i recently started floating my pellets before feeding
Brooo you deserve more subsssss!!!
Great video thanks for the info 👍
I made the mistake of using aquarium salt instead of Epson salt for my Cory cat that has some problems with its swim bladder.
Hey
So I've been using aquarium salt on my betta since 2/4.
Great videos, keep it up!
thanks barry!
Thank you so much for this video
My betta has dropsy and I started Maracyn the antibiotic and I do think I need to start the Epson salt process daily. What do you recommend?
Another point is age. My beta is almost 3 years at my home. He is blind at one eye. He turned from red to kind of brownish over time. and now has swimbladder problems that will not go away no matter what I tried.
I have a goldfish who looks like he’s dying but he won’t good! Will these help him aswell? Do I need to condition the dip water?
Thank you so much for this valuable information. May I know for how many days I need to do the Epsom Salt baths please ?
Totally late reply and hopefully your fish is much better now, but what I have known from giving my bettas an Epsom salt bath is it can take up to three days to 2 weeks to start seeing progress. It really depends and hopefully you will be able to tell that they are getting better!
Awesome, informative video! Currently trying to take care of my little betta who most definitely seems to have a case of SBD using your advice. I'll take a deeper look around myself, but do you (or anyone else) know of an alternative to maracyn in the UK? I can't seem to find it... 😢
Anyways, keep up the great content. Absolutely worth a subscribe!
Nice and brilliant video thank you for share this
Glad you enjoyed it
Well, I'm studying to be a Vetrinarian, so thanks for this vid.
would love to see a video on fin rot
I have getting some antibiotics, but it is going to arrive in quite a while. Do you have any other recommendations, meds or foods that can help with the bacterial infections? I heard that garlic is a great natural antibiotic, so I’m soaking my fishes pellets in garlic juice.
Great vid with good detail!
Hi man i have questions my betta fish keep on sinking it get up to get air and sinking again is it the same problem please if you can answer my question and thanks
Perfect man. Thanks alot bro...😊😊😊😊
for sure bro
I’m at a loss with my betta. He has been very swollen for over a month but otherwise seems happy (making bubbles in his tank). I tried isolation and fasting and peas but he won’t eat them because they don’t float he he doesn’t look. Not sure what else to try.
How often do you feed beta fish??He's floating and dropping straight up and down and hardly eating and swimming
Did you just fast and pea the Betta or did you use any antibiotics or did it clear up on its own????
i fasted and gave peas
My fish deff has swim bladder 😭😭😭 so do i fast him for 3 days then put him a hostpital tank or the other order around
Pharmaquatics you didn’t say How Many Days to use the Epsom Salt baths ?????? Do it until you see improvement or is there an over treatment ?
Short term shock is my case I use to have a super warm room that would always be around the same tempature but then I moved and he became really cold so we put him in our warmest place in the house and he got swim bladder disease I ordered a heater and a thermoniter (probably spelt that wrong) the heater should come soon now
where can I find floating plant... is any kind of plant workable ?
What type of plant do I put in my quarantine tank real or fake?
My betta is positioned vertically and keeps sinking to the bottom and trying to pull herself back up. Could this be SBD?
What kind of water to use actually? Not for the quarantine.
I’m just worried that they won’t get the proper oxygen or would it be ok for the few days he’s in there?
as long as there is a layer of air on top of the water column, you should be fine!
How long do you keep them indifferent tank
Great vid so far, first!
Legend!
Thank you so much bro I come to your videos and Reddit ! To help me .. I’m a new fish/beta owner and want the best for him . Is there anyway to contact you lol for more questions ?
Does this apply to other fish?
Mine is also swimming frantically around the tank… is this also a swim bladder problem
Love the video, but wish it was accessible by having captions available!😅
Is fluval bug bites the best pellet food with high protein and fiber for a betta? None of my bettas have swim bladder disease.
make sure to feed your betta a variety of foods just in case
@@Ghostrider-xv9rj what kinds of foods?
@@kathleenmonsegue9700 live foods like blackworms brine shrimp and bloodworms and I've heard fluval bug bites are good for pelleted foods
My betta fish fins were ripping turning brown and now this is me watching how to save my bettta fish and then i noticed it was SBL and fin rott
My betta is lying in the bottom or staying quite in the corner... What should I do get it back happy and healthy Harry ?
My platy fish has possible SBD. When she stops trying to swim up she will sink. I did put her in a quarantaine tank with a low waterlevel. Do I need to fill the tank completely and add a small filter or do I need to do watertherapy? Switching waterlevels every 30 minutes 3 times a day?
Thank you now I know what to look for 😊
Thank You very helpful!
Thanks for sharing boss
My betta is like this, I fasted him correctly. But he doesn't accept peas, but when I feed him he eats normally. what should i do 😢
