    I had a few bettas by now.
    3 of the 4 Bettas I had died way too soon.
    A good diet (frozen food, flake food, live food, pellets), water parameters are all good, fully cycled 10 gallon tanks. Everything that's reccomended was tried.
    One had a tumor, another died of dropsy shortly after buying, the other survived dropsy, but didn't completely recover ever again, the third died due to stress after getting swimbladder disease.
    They were all from the same LFS.
    My 4th Betta is from the same LFS but looks wildly different.
    It looks like a wild betta. It was sold to me as a female, but later turned out to be a male.
    It is in a 5 Gallon unheated tank with shrimps and snails, and only gets processed food, pellets flakes etc. Still varied but nothing fancy.
    He's doing way better than all my bettas before. I suspect thata lot of bettas have really bad genes, and that frozen food and live food ist probably contaminated with germs.
    I'll stick to more wild bettas and my processed food for now.
    Seems the best option so far.

      Thanks for sharing and great to hear it eventually worked out with one of your bettas. Hoping others realize through this video that survivability of a betta sometimes is out of the hands of the owner, even when they do everything right!
      Great that you didn't let it deter you from keeping on going.

    I have been keeping fish since I was 7 or so, I am 19 now. We have kept Mollies, Goldfish, Guppies, African Cichlids, Plecos, Tin Foil Barb, Blood Parrot Fish, and countless bettas. And the hardest to alive (more so healthy) are the bettas.

    I have kept bettas in 5 gallons tank with 2 compartments water quality quite good feeding was on time once a day...1st betta died and day after that i changed 40 % water then again 2nd one died....dont know why, the betta is not moving much just staying at a corner or at one place before dying, eating quite less? Dont know why?

    The tap water in my area ways stay at 8.2 and above. Is there any solution to lower my pH beside using indian almond leaves as it’s darken my water so much that I couldn’t see my fish at all ? I have used proper pH powder from seachem and it actually left a layer of chemical film on top of the water the next day that I had to throw that water away and not using for my fish 😢

    • @Pharmaquatics
      @Pharmaquatics  5 месяцев назад +1

      It's not worth chasing a certain pH with your tap. Even neocaradina shrimp keepers say this (and you can argue shrimp are more pH sensitive than bettas). The key is to acclimate your betta very slowly to our tap's pH. It may not be in ideal ranges, but putting additives in your water to reach a specific pH can actually be more harmful since you're more prone to fluctuations.
      The only other option is starting from base 0 with RO water, but again, it's not worth it imo.

      @chrisnguyen3080 5 месяцев назад

      @@Pharmaquatics yes an RO system would be too much for a beginner as me unless you are a hardcore betta owner. I guess I’ll just stick with that 8.0 pH and let my fish acclimate it by the times.

    I inoculated a 9 gallon tank with 1 gallon of pond water & 7 gallons of treated, tap water. It took less than a week to establish a healthy system.
    (Father fish method). The snail, shrimp & bettas are all thriving & doing great.
    The water isn't pristine, just like it isn't in their natural environment, but everyone's happy & healthy.
