I had a common goldfish who lived to 19 yrs old. He was about 15inches. Had a huge tank. His first friend died after a year. His second friend lived about 7 years with him. He was the happiest little soul. My mum got so knowledgeable with goldfish conditions, water and husbandry. Loved my Dixie. ❤Thanks for the love, education and respect you show your fish.
I just wanted to drop by and say THANK YOU SO MUCH. My little guy came home yesterday, and right away I could tell his buoyancy was off (not turning upside down thankfully) and he had some stringy white poop. I started him on some antibiotics immediately and salt baths the morning after he acclimated. He is swimming much better, and we are both so appreciative for your website and videos! He looks like Bubba, except he has a white belly and is still very small. His name is Samwell (after Samwell Tarly). Thanks again! You da best!
A little over a month ago, I used the information in this video to treat our goldfish Timothy. He unfortunately didn't make it, but I felt comforted knowing I tried everything I could. I wrote down the information in a book of exotic animal medications at work just in case I would ever need it again. This morning a man called our veterinary hospital because his goldfish has started swimming sideways. I was able to narrow down the cause of her swim bladder issues and let him know how to help her. I cannot thank you enough for everything. I'm literally tearing up right now. Because of you, I was able to help a kind man help his sassy and well loved goldfish, and from the sound of it, she'll probably recover well and be back to being an Evil Brat soon, long may she reign. (He named her E.B. after she murdered another fish. She's a little troublemaker!)
I'm sure there are plenty of people who are only here because of the uncomfortably good looking dude in the thumb nail too.... Not me, I have fish.... true story😅😅
Hey Luke. Just wanna let you know. Your website has instructions and informations written very well. Easy to read and I do visit your website from time to time just to read and see what you do. Super helpful. Thanks!
How many times a day can use Epsom Salt bath? I have used the Pea feeding method for several days! Now getting ready for the Epsom Salt Bath? Cheers, Johnny.
I just want to say thank you!!! I have a fancy goldfish that I love so much for 5 years now. And about 4 weeks ago it started not being able to swim upright. Then 2 weeks ago it was no longer up but at the bottom of the tank and still upside down. I started looking on google then RUclips about what to do and I found you. I bought a digital thermometer and also a heater. It took about 3 days to get the temp up it was at 65 degrees when I put the heater in. Then I didn’t feed for the 3 days. I felt bad not to feed but I wanted to try to save her or him ( not sure ). So then I fed peas like your video said and then the 3rd day after feeding peas when I woke and went to check she was swimming upright. Clumsily but upright!!! And now she is pretty much back to normal. I’m so grateful to you for your video. I will watch all of them in my spare time to learn as much as I can. You’ve saved my dear fish. And now I can learn how to give them a better quality of life. I have two aquariums I had to put her in her own tank 2 years ago because she was being bullied. Ok at the risk of being too long winded I will stop typing. Thanks again ❤️.
Very frustrating situation As a gold fish parent of 14yrs Our giant goldfish is sick again. In the past treating her in a separate take with salt helped very much but unfortunately this time she 8s upside down / nose down very sad to see our big golden girl sick. 😢 We will definitely try some of these suggestions. Thank you Great video 👍👍
3 of my 4 fancy goldfish got SBD after a big water change-floating upside down, the whole thing I took your advice: turned the heat to 80 and added epsom salts-1 week later everybody is fine! Thanks!!!!
I watched a video from a Vietnamese channel. They treated Swim Bladder Disease (up side down fish) and Dropsy by Organic Unsweetened Cacao powder. There are two ways of treatment. Way 1: They mixed the cacao powder with fresh new water in a Quarantine tank and dipped the fish in it with aeration. I don't know the ratio of Cacao powder and water but they said just mixing the soup as light brown color. Way 2: Mix 1 tablespoon of cacao powder with little bit water and rolling into balls as small as pellets, then feeding the fish. Both ways worked very well and the fish healed completely.
I wish we could invent something to help the goldfish with untreatable swim bladder problems. You know, like pet wheelchairs and human prosthetics. Thank you for giving us good information about sbd treatment! I'm sure it will save many fishies!🧡
I have a gourami, so I gave Rumi some wheat bread today... wheat bread cause you to burp. Yesterday, I gave him carrot oil, kiwi oil, and tea tree oil. I put turmeric in the watee and a little baking soda and a little peroxide I put epsom salt on his yellow belly and now his color is back to normal, gray. But he still on top of the tank, so I hope the wheat bread will help. Also I squirt some antibiotics.
Hi luke! My chunky one every single day goes up to the surface and gulps a large amount of air. All for fun!!!! She always gets SBD; peas and broccoli are always the ultimate solution. She gets this problem at least once a month. I just can’t help her to not go up there.
Thanks for this it was very educational. I tried it and it worked! for my fancy round goldfish that I paid 50 dollars for. The keeper feed it before bagging and it kept rising and even going to its side. I turned up the heat in the apt and didnt feed it all night. I came home from work and it was at the bottom I was so relived that this actually worked. I only feed it once a day no matter how cute it asks.
I adopted a Betta with a swim bladder problem from petsmart. Apparently he had it a few months before I adopted it. He’s pooping all good and not seeing any internal parasites under microscope. Tried kanaplex in water and not working. Trying it mixed in food next.
“Your fish might be genetically wonky.” -Luke’s professional diagnosis. Lol But this is so true. Could just be a problem with the way the fish is put together. Your video was very helpful. Never would have thought of increasing the heat. Also taking pets to the vet can be very expensive and still not save your fish. I had a Guinea pig I took to the vet once and they told me it would be $300 to treat the problem. I started crying right away because I could not afford that. They did reduce the amount to $60 and sent me home with care instructions. My Guinea died that night anyway. A New Guinea pig is $30. Not that pets can be replaced so easily but in the grand scheme of things a trip to the vet can be really expensive and still not save your pet. 😢💔
I saw floating goldfish when I go to the pet shop. They're beautiful and huge but they're not kept in good environment. They're in a huge aquarium but there's plenty of them diff fishes and the water quality is so bad, it kinda looks muddy.
Thank you so much. I got the information regarding preventive measures. I have an Angel fish which has Swim Bladder issue and its on treatment for nearly 10 days. I have added peas and 30%water change everyday along with Ridall medicine and 2 teaspoons of Epsom salt. No results so far.
I have had countless goldfish. Havent had any issues with swim bladder issues. Shallow dwellings, not feeding a ton so your fish get too large, not feeding indigestible garbage, and keeping water clean will prevent MOST swim bladder disorder. There will be the ODD FISH who is just genetically prone to it... But this is very rare in my opinion.
Mine developed (I believe SBD) and a stressful move. He is mostly floating at the top now. Not upside down thankfully but when he does try to swim down, he has to exert a lot of energy and he usually swimming back up semi floating or in circles (like flips). I feed them peas about once a month. They stay room temp but I am about to drop in some heaters and crank it up to 80. Start fasting. Swap food to sinking and start some epsom salt baths tomorrow after I pick up the goods. I was hoping it would just pass. One of my others (Orandas) also developed an ouching on his lip but I am happy to say he seems to be doing better/healing. I may just move this guy to the hospital tank and try everything for a bit and see how it goes vs treating my whole large tank. I also have met/prim for meds but will be picking up the med U suggested. I need to learn the broccoli food as peas is my only greens I feed.
Here are tips for swim bladder disease, if you see the fish flopping around quickly take action, and set the heat to 26 Celsius, feed the fish less, and feed it boiled deshelled peas ,there are other vegetables that you can feed the fish ,but peas are more efficient,do less water changes like 10 %- 15% water change, and if your tank is unclean do 20 to 25% water change, and if you don’t have a water heater, change your room temperature ,other than that buy one from your local pet store ,or send the fish to your local vet ,and good luck.
What if I have other fish in the tank do I not feed them for three days too? Just bought two black Moore's and they have white poop just tested the tank and they still have it. I noticed one keeps swimming n the same spot. Didn't know if it was just sleeping tho. Bc then it does swim around some
@@Yellybee90 my black moor also stays in the same place and i just saw him burst swim while being diagonal(he's usually a slow fish but this burst is faster than my betta) but now he is usually resting in the cave but he's resting on the upside which seems unusual to me. maybe he has problem with buoyancy because i feed him at the surface.
Very informative. I learned a lot. I had a fancy telescope eyed butterfly tail panda goldfish who got huge then one day he was upside down. I had no clue what to do. I was told there was nothing I could do by the people who sold me the fish. It sucked putting "Ling-Ling" down. I heard that there is this food now you can mix with your sinking pellets that releases gas issues or prevents it. But have not been able to find it. Do you know about this supplement?
I miss working with fancy goldfish. I'm not sure if you've experienced the same thing bit in Australia all the guys were into cichlids. I was always drawn to fancy goldfish (pearlscales and ranchus) but I never enjoyed having to treat the swim ladder with a needle. Dont even get me started on treating the imports for hookworm ❤✌
My fantail has been developing this disease for about a year. I didn’t have him until about 6 months ago (I was pregnant with health issues and had to give them to a foster home for a bit, due to the fact that it was so urgent I didn’t have very many options) but I noticed he got increasingly fat after his foster home. I thought he was a SHE and pregnant with eggs. Definitely no eggs as I tried to hand express them. No eggs were dropped. Well today I finally noticed that he was sitting verticle……. That made my heart drop because I already know as a fish owner of 2 years (I also do hella research because I’m obsessed with the ecosystem and animals that live in tanks) that a verticle fish is not a healthy fish. My fish is only 2 years old. I’ve taken excellent care of him up until his foster home. Just trying to figure it out so I can save his little butt.
Thank you for the information my common goldfish seems like that they may have it. I'm gonna go step by step and hopefully will get better. I do need to get a bigger tank. Keep up with the work mate love the content
You are very good looking. Its hard for me to believe you know your stuff. I get this treatment a lot, I'm not usually on the other side of it. You could make money acting if you develop the basic skill set. I'm going to use some more cucumber (in the tanks, not to "increase my stage presence") we keep a quarantine tank, and a hospital tank, but they aren't planted, and small. The peas ..cool idea. I'm seeing if a small aloe will grow at the top that might help. We use grow lights, so far so good, except it breeds algae fast. we have a clawed frog tank that's the euthanasia tank. The slow ones stand no chance. Many guppies and zebra fish have survived, but they are well fed, and I'd say poor hunters lol. Thanks for the info. You actually seem pretty cool and knowledgeable there is a stigma to being nice, good looking and funny. Way to break it.
Thanxs for this info did not know that 25 degree celcius was prefered for fancy fish, i thought (after looking up plenty vids) that 20 degree celcius was best. (subbed)
My twin genetic fish is having issues, but I am going to try and relieve him of his illness, he has definitely been gulfing air, but I am going to relieve the pressure and see how he does!!! My water is perfect but he has been swallowing air for a while, I am going to "vent" his swim bladder!!!
My husband just brought home an oranda from a reputable fish store. Sadly, the fish seems to having swim bladder issues. I guess I'm not feeding them for a few days. I'm so disappointed the shop sold him this fish. Pray for little Snickerdoodle. 🙏🏻
Thank you thank you thank you, my dinosaur bichir, “Boo” is just a baby and he and I are very close … He even lets me pet him…I would’ve hate to have lost him bc of the overfeeding of the pellets. Will update. God bless you!
I hate SBD, my wife recently lost her 4 y.o fancy to an acute case of SBD. I caught it late and only got to try 1 treatment of the antibiotics before he died. I feed the remaining ones peas once a week now. I buried the little guy in a container lime tree.
I have two tanks - one with 7 goldies who never had any problems. But the second tank is a community tank with angelfish, neons and black mollies. I keep losing one molly every month due to swim bladder. I find one swimming upside down / nose down, move her to a hospital tank, tried everything I could, but eventually she will die. It seems to be happening only to my black mollies. Any thoughts?
Ever since I did a water change on my 50 gallon, one of my goldfish started swimming upside down. I tried to feed it peas but the fish doesn't eat, what should I do?
One of my platies just developed a situation where he's at the bottom and can't go to the top. I see a dark spot inside of his body, near where his swim bladder is. I tried a epsom salt bath and added epsom salt to the tank. No luck this week with that. I ordered some seachem metroplex, focus and garlic guard. This platy is spitting out food now so I don't know what to do. I don't want to starve the whole tank b/c of this one fish. Also tried a frozen pea that I boiled for 5 minutes, de-shelled and broke up. Nobody wanted it. If I get freeze dried daphnia, will that go to the bottom of the tank so my corycat can have some? He's senile and doesn't go to the surface except to occasionally get a gulp of air. What about brine shrimp? Which do you prefer? Thanks! Oh, I feed my crew twice a day. Morning and evening. They eat everything in 5 minutes. Been soaking food now before I feed them after one of them developed the swim bladder issue.
hello, do you use the kanaplex in water or feed? I am so glad I found your channel, I also have a question about Mitraspora Heferellus Cyprini, probably the cause of my 18 and two 6 yo goldfish Dropsy and death. Thank you for your great videos !
I got 3 goldfishes from a store, it seems ok in shop till i got home 1 of the oranda started having the sb issue in the airbag. I been feeding pea for like 5 days she got no much issue except that when she ia resting she tilt forward down or floats. But during the feed, she swims and snatch food the fastest. I wonder if it some kind of baterial issue or digestive coz on the outer it look exactly fine😢

Luke my Rynkin having some SBD issues when i bought 2 months back, but the issue is she is always gasping for air on top like your Bubba, and even feed siking pellets then she is the fast in eating as much as possible, and later belly turned up, dont feed for 1 day and back to normal, this happening regularly, so can u suggest what i can do, because water quality is good, temp is 26-27, feeding peas twice in a week. Very active but this issue not able to solve. Poop also sometimes having bubbles, so i have to use the antibiotic or some other suggestion.
My tank started to become a little dirty and a day ago my tetra was swimming up and down in various directions. However, today I have noticed that my fish has completely stopped moving and it upside down. Is this due to swim bladder disorder or has my fish passed away?
Ive put my affected fish in a hospital tank for now. I am not feeding him for 3 days and I've been giving him daily Epsom salt baths only 1 tbs per gallon, after the 3 days I am gonna try feeding him a cooked pea hopefully he pulls through.
Our Rosy got caught on the filter not sure how long it was stuck there for, but it started swimming erratically until it just settled on the floor waiting to die, its gills were blood red. We tried everything but we had to euthanize it. In cases like that just euthanize the fish immediately. poor guy kept wriggling on the floor for days, while we tried to help it
So my oranda is completely upside down at the bottom, when. He swims around and is fine and looks super good but then is just at the bottom completely upside down and it’s in my 150 gallon stock tank with a couple other koi. I hate to just leave him like that it’s bothering me big time..
Funny how you have Bubba and my Bubbles has been living upside down for 7-10 days. Please help. She is only about a year old. I moved her to their new larger home 6-7 weeks ago. She LOVES playing in the flow and the bubbles...Should I isolate her? PLEASE HELP
One of my orandas was born eith tiny tailbone stunning tail somtimes she finds it hard to balance i know she dose not have swimbladder disorder she swims normaly boy dose she love her food
i lost my first goldfish to this problem, he was a tiny little ranchu. i got him from the fish store, and once i got him home i realized he was missing a fin! they didnt even tell me and i didnt notice before i bought him. as he got bigger, his balance got worse and eventually he was floating :/ i thought i was a horrible fishkeeper but now i realize it was bound to happen.
Sadly my angel fish looks healthy but while it tries to swim it sinks to the bottom. It may be bunged up, I believe it’s swim bladder so It’s in the hospital tank alone, 38c, Epson salt added. Tried the peas, but he doesn’t like it. Also, it can’t take food from the bottom. Possibly could take it if the food was floating on the top. He seems hungry, but when he goes for a swim he swirls, he’s upside down and ultimately ends on his side on the bottom of the tank. I’ve added some antibacterial lotion, and also swim bladder medication. So I’m a little lost as to what to do for him now. When will I see a difference if all this does work, when will I see results?? Does it take days or hours? Thank you

Do we wait 3 days no feed and then try peas on 3 rd day ? Or feed peas right away?

Thank you for the video!!!! Very useful!!!!!
Hope it helps!
Thank you for the information my common goldfish seems like that they may have it. I'm gonna go step by step and hopefully will get better. I do need to get a bigger tank. Keep up with the work mate love the content
How did it go?
Hi, one of my two orandas turns over every time it eats pellets, what can I do? if he eats frozen peas and blood worms it's better.
My goldie has been often facing upwards I haven't really seen anyone with that type of problem I wonder if it's really a swim bladder problem
Might be!
I have the same issue rn
PLS SOMEONE ANSWER THIS CAN YOU TURN THE EHAT UP FOR FRESHWATER/COLDWATER FISH

Thanxs for this info did not know that 25 degree celcius was prefered for fancy fish, i thought (after looking up plenty vids) that 20 degree celcius was best. (subbed)
My twin genetic fish is having issues, but I am going to try and relieve him of his illness, he has definitely been gulfing air, but I am going to relieve the pressure and see how he does!!! My water is perfect but he has been swallowing air for a while, I am going to "vent" his swim bladder!!!
How much epsom salt do I need to put in the tank
Should I separate into a quarantine tank for treatment?
My husband just brought home an oranda from a reputable fish store. Sadly, the fish seems to having swim bladder issues. I guess I'm not feeding them for a few days. I'm so disappointed the shop sold him this fish. Pray for little Snickerdoodle. 🙏🏻
Ive 4 golden fishes, and 2 Scavenger Fish. One of scavenger fish had Swim Bladder Disease.

Thank you thank you thank you, my dinosaur bichir, “Boo” is just a baby and he and I are very close … He even lets me pet him…I would’ve hate to have lost him bc of the overfeeding of the pellets. Will update. God bless you!
Will this work for a betta fish?
I dont see the article below for the epson salt bath? Can someone guide me to it?
Ever since I did a water change on my 50 gallon, one of my goldfish started swimming upside down. I tried to feed it peas but the fish doesn't eat, what should I do?
Great Video
Thank you!

I don't own goldfish but... Who knew fish bois were so cute man. Sheesh.
My goldfish is 1 and he has that I'm praying that this works FYI my first ever pet and a black Moore goldfish
And it's a fancy goldfish
Was the Epsom salt instructions removed? I don't see them linked below.
Hi luke i have been watching your Videos a lot , how i wish i could have one gold fish from you 💕
hello, do you use the kanaplex in water or feed? I am so glad I found your channel, I also have a question about Mitraspora Heferellus Cyprini, probably the cause of my 18 and two 6 yo goldfish Dropsy and death. Thank you for your great videos !
Does this only work with goldfish I have a fish that has this so can someone answer quickly?
What type of peas can I use? The frozen sweet green peas or does it have to be regular green peas?
I got 3 goldfishes from a store, it seems ok in shop till i got home 1 of the oranda started having the sb issue in the airbag. I been feeding pea for like 5 days she got no much issue except that when she ia resting she tilt forward down or floats. But during the feed, she swims and snatch food the fastest. I wonder if it some kind of baterial issue or digestive coz on the outer it look exactly fine😢
So very helpful, thank you-
thanks for the tips!
Np!

I have 60 gallon tank, how much salt? I have four goldfish one is sick other fish are ok, can I put salt in the tank with other fish
is this treatment work with pearlscale goldfish too?
How many time should i feed the peas in a day?
I live in the UK should I keep a heater in my goldfish tank ?
Our Rosy got caught on the filter not sure how long it was stuck there for, but it started swimming erratically until it just settled on the floor waiting to die, its gills were blood red. We tried everything but we had to euthanize it. In cases like that just euthanize the fish immediately. poor guy kept wriggling on the floor for days, while we tried to help it
no dislikes as it should be
What would I do? I got oranda who travalled almost 34hrs. and he got sbd.
PLEASE HELP
I have a Molly fish with swim bladder
One of my orandas was born eith tiny tailbone stunning tail somtimes she finds it hard to balance i know she dose not have swimbladder disorder she swims normaly boy dose she love her food
Does epsan salt help with parasites
What if my fish doesn’t want to eat the green pea?
You alot like a teacher I know 😅
i lost my first goldfish to this problem, he was a tiny little ranchu. i got him from the fish store, and once i got him home i realized he was missing a fin! they didnt even tell me and i didnt notice before i bought him. as he got bigger, his balance got worse and eventually he was floating :/ i thought i was a horrible fishkeeper but now i realize it was bound to happen.
Is sbd painful for the fishies? I imagine it would feel sort of like when people get gas pain from too much air pressure in their belly.
Thanks for this
Sadly my angel fish looks healthy but while it tries to swim it sinks to the bottom.
Thank you
i have a goldfish that has swim bladder disease, he can’t swim and is stuck at the bottom of the tank and i don’t know what to do. his siblings are upset
