Theo and Bee gave up their busy city lifestyles in 2014 to explore alternative living, and have lived in vans and boats since then without looking back! Along with their cat Ginjey Bear they have been driving around the world in their self converted Sprinter van. However, when the global pandemic hit they began converting their abandoned stone barn in Central Portugal to turn into a wonderful tiny stone cottage. Along the way, they have rescued a playful cat called Furrnando and have a wonderful flock of Chickens!

Theo and B, exciting stuff re the new garage space. A couple of things to consider. 1 The more roof area you have in the lean2 the dryer you'll be able to keep things like your tractor implements, Ute, 4x4, and other toys when not locked up in the garage. 2 Roof area is important water harvesting capability, which in your situation is valuable, so more roof is better in my view (even if you only build some of it now and extend later, plan for the whole thing now, so this build takes into account any expansion). 3 I would not try and align the garage and lean2 up with the house, but rather have one plane of roof aligned with the sun travel path. That will give you a great platform to install solar panels on (aligned with the sun will give you the best sun harvesting options). 4 I would add on a bit extra to the inside building area, so you can have a utilities room for things like solar chargers, batteries, heat pumps and a pressure tank (so you have good water pressure in the house), or any other valuable item you are not installing into the tiny house that helps the tiny hose function. I am looking forward to see what you come up with. Take care D

Love to watch your progress and attention to detail in your work! Also your enthusiasm that comes across in the videos as you plan the next step of each project. You must be planning on parking the tractor and UTV under the lean to next to the new barn, otherwise I agree with everyone who says to make the barn bigger. A two car garage in the US averages about 22 x 24 feet (6.7 x 7.3 meters). That's just enough space to park 2 cars and have a workbench across the back. I'm afraid you will soon outgrow that space you're planning of 4 by 4 meters. Of course, one idea would be to assess the site and situate the building where you'd have level ground to extend it in the future. Love to see you two working and reaching your goals together!

You might want to rethink the size of the garage, I dont think you will get the 4x4, tractor and workshop area in with any space to work or move in there, instead of a 4mtr x 4mtr garage try a 6mtr x 4mtr building only an extra 2mtr but will give you loads of extra room and your soon grow into the space just go for double garage doors on thr front with a center piller so its almost like two garages side by side

Maybe have a second floor with pull-down stairs for the barn? It would be a great area for additional storage, especially for seasonal items.
Everything looks great!! Best wishes to you all. ❤

Bea that Danish oil is such an amazing oil for wood. It also brings old pieces of furniture back to life

Making the garage bigger if you`re allowed to might be a good idea :) The beam looks fantastic, thank goodness you got the stain out!

What little (virtually nothing) I understand of the building code in Portugal, you cannot increase the footprint of a ruin. You can only go up.

@@fillhixx but surely this workshop is a new building, not a ruin... and it does look extremely small for a workshop, AND parking for a tracker AND an rtv... let alone three other vehicles. something six times the size seems appropriate.

@@karlcx My bad. Thought the conversation was on the existing renovation. I’m sure they are getting good advice on their project, better than what comes from Randos on the internet… ;-)

Great job once again! But your garage/workspace will be too small in my opinion. By the way, what happened to the new fun car you bought recently? Greets from Belgium.

Good old Kubie Kubota, the little tractor that does it all!
Pulling out the broome by the roots reminds me of when you hooked up the Passat & were expecting a difficult, hard pull, then that root just popped out! Every time that clip shows in your intro it makes me laugh! Yay, Kubie & Theo!

Too tiny. Triple the size, you’ll never regret it.

Make it bigger the Garage because later you will need more space and its never enough storage. And you can used the working space for many jobs that you will have to do later.

As many have already said, consider making the garage bigger. At times you probably want to park both the tractor and the 4x4 in there and that would leave little space for a decent work area, storage for tools and other stuff you can't (or don't want to) keep in the house.
