This tutorial is so good, this guy has super in-depth knowledge of color grading. I've watched hundreds of videos about color grading. None of them is doing this professionally. All the others just try to balance here and turn that wheel without knowing the background and theory. Instant Sub!
I have seen countless DR tutorials on RUclips and this is the only one that surely stands for the "pro" title in it. Thank you very much for sharing the knowledge with us Darren! I really appreciate what you are doing here.
Of all Davinci Resolve tutorials, this is by far the best. Nothing compares to this. Even the simple tweaks give you much much deeper understanding on what the tools are all about.
THIS WAS LIFE CHANGING VIDEO, WAS TRYING TO REPLICATE MY SHOTS FROM REFRENCE SHOTS, COULDNT ABLE TO MATCH THOSE SCOPES WITH LUMA MIX AT 100, WASNT EVEN KNOW ABOUT LUMA MIX THING, NOW I CAN MATCH SCOPES EASILY, I MEAN , JUST CANT THANK YOU ENOUGH MR.DARREN, GRATITUDE
Thank you for this! This has actually been the most straight-forward tutorial on colour-matching two frames I've seen, despite that not being the main point. XD
this may be one of the most important tips for Resolve hidden but brought to light (pun intended) the other is to use temp and tint Darren is my new best friend
This just saved me SO much time. I spend an insane amount of insanity-inducing (see what I did there?) time pushing and pulling each channel repeatedly to get my images balanced whilst maintaining the contrast ratios I want. It's so irritating. I will certainly be using luma mix to balance from here out. Thank you Darren!
Thank you. I've been using Blackmagic version of DaVinci Resolve for a very long time and been a broadcast colourist even longer. Spread the word and let's get this channel seen by more than the 2K people who can benefit from knowing this stuff. Im giving it for free! All the best, Darren.
Really good once again Darren. I find myself watching tutorials these days and shaking my head on some of the information being presented, but your info seems to be right on the money to me. Shot matching and balancing seems to me to be a large amount of what I do- yet it is hardly covered. The info you have here - in my opinion is going to help people intensely - There are a lot of people out there that add a LUT on one clip and they are happy, then they add the same LUT on another angle and it looks awful- but if they balanced the angles as you did here- the consistency would allow them to do an overall grade and apply it to their whole project. Again - keep them coming - the only thing I would say is the audio sounds like the mic is not close enough when you are talking at the intro and end - maybe get the mic a little closer to your mouth to get less room and more you. Great job - keep em coming.
Hi Jim. Thank you for taking the time to comment again. Appreciated. Sorry for the audio quality on the non screen stuff....Im just getting kit together...remember I'm a colourist : )) ...learning new RUclips skills daily making this channel! I'll endeavour to get the audio better on the next one! Genuinely appreciate your honest opinion. Glad you are enjoying the videos. Darren.
Great tutorial, Darren. I am a beginner and your videos are very informative; the right amount of information. I like how you go right on to the subject, no fancy intro or distracting music, your demeanor is perfect. I've subscribed to your channel (and mailing list). I am going to watch your other videos now!
Great stuff but could you do a video explanation on when to have the luma to 100 and then zero and also when to use the primaries vs the log wheels? Because i know you have to use them "together" but it is still a bit unclear for me that part
Hello Mike. Someone else asked for that too. Im doing that as a special one for my 10K subs video! Im going to do a full tour studio and a full geek out all my equipment. there is a mac pro test video on my channel which shows you the specs of our main grading suite. As soon as Im on 10K that episode will happen. Promise. All the best, Darren
Hi Darren, thank you for all your great tutorials that help so much. That was exactly what I was looking for but it seems not working when we use wide gamut color space. Do you have any idea why and how to achieve this in DWG ?
Really appreciate your videos. Concise and solid. Keep making them please. With the growing use and popularity of Resolve, your audience will surely grow.
Hi Rocky. Thank you for taking time to comment, means a lot to know what people want and like. Please subscribe if you haven't already....early days on the channel so they all help. Darren.

Thank you for taking time to comment. Yes, Ive been in the industry for nearly 25 years, so I had to work gard at knowing what level to aim these at. @@DarrenMostyn Absolutely! Thanks. I have been grading since the early days of Lustre 1.0 and I have spent countless hours in Telecine suites with top colorists. You can never stop learning. I like the fact that you keep it short and to the point. The idea of doing bite-sized tip videos is a way to go. Especially like this, when you show a simple technique to match shots, or anything else you think of is beneficial. There are too many "new breed" "colorists" that spend 30+ minutes on a shot without basic understanding how to match shots in a first place.
@@cgereueu I started out on Digital Vision Film Master a long time ago but switched to Resolve when Blackmagic took over. I never used Lustre. All the best, Darren

Great video. I saw another video where it just discusses changing the Luma Mix to always zero in the project settings. But, your technique gives us more flexibility. Thanks for another powerful tip.
Hi Michael. Nice to know my work over the years has been noticed! Im enjoying doing thess and the feedback in just a few weeks has been very positive - it is appreciated. I'm so pleased to have nearly 750 subscribers in a little over two weeks! Thanks again, Darren.
Hey Darren, Just chanced on your channel a couple of days back. I must say that this your videos are so straight forward, full of useful tips, and useful right out of the box. I am a photographer, learning to edit my travel videos. your couple of videos have already given me very useful knowledge. Subscribed, and you would be seeing a lot of me. Best wishes from India.
Dear Darren, Thanks a lot for your LUMA Mix killer tip ! It helped me most of my previous day to match a color grading between HD plans but also old SD plans shot in Antarctica for a documentary. It was super helpful and the director are super happy cause the ice have a color that change depending how old was the ice (numerous green/blue clips but also with orange/yellow on high lights due to the sun). You "enlighted" my day :-) Your video was simply super clear, simple, effective, you really go straight to the point and i love your english accent ! So thanks Darren ! It made my workflow way much faster for that ! Have a nice week and thanks again for sharing your knowledge on a very simple and friendly way ! Best regards from France ! Vincent
Thats really good to know that I've helped you grade using a new technique to you with confidence, especially with a Director present. It can be quite un-nerving using techniques you are not used to with an audience, so I'm really pleased you got the right information out of that episode to use the important technique. Very best of luck! Darren.
😊😊 This is wonderful.. I love davinci but I got frustrated by all the moving parade waveforms. Totally not understanding. I did not realize that is was trying to compensate. Now it makes sence.. ❤ Thank you..
